Great application I must say.

I read post 2 and the fact that you will at some time add better support for non VGA devices.

I have added 2 shots from my HD in the hope that this might happen soon.
The display you can realy read its the capture software that messes it up.
The HD would support a few more Items
The HD graph in landscape is so small based on the screen size.

Would be nice if you would support the device date format (mine is DD/MM/YY as I live in switzerland)

(Would be ready to beta for you if you wished).

Thanks for posting the screen shots ... they'll help me figure out what to do for WVGA, since I don't have an emulator for it.

The update later to adjust times to your local time will also display dates using your system settings. ;)

I've been doing a lot of research into putting TickerTape in a tab in TF3D, and this is what I have concluded:

1) So far, the only "custom" tabs that have been created were to display things that are already part of Manila (Comm Manager, for example).

2) The content of a tab can only be Manila files, which appear to be made up of LUA scripts.

3) I've not seen any way for a tab to run an exe.

So ... I don't think it will be possible to put this app in a tab. :(

@NisseDILLIGAF and D-MAN666 -- you guys seem to be the experts on this topic. If you're following this thread and have any suggestions, now would be a good time to chime in. :)

Question:

Would it be possible to have a mode that is Cache only ?

Reasoning:
In some places the Internet option is an expensive option and is based on download amount and not flat rate.

Thus some of us would rather download when connected to a PC or Wifi than over the air.

An option of chached only would be nice.
The application would not try to download over the air and thus would also not get a "download error" on starting on those devices were the network setup has been removed to insure that internet over the air does not happen by mistake.

The application would directly go into "Cached Chart Display"

I feel this should be an option on the menu under settings , download settings, "Not over the Phone network" (to stop not downlaod when not connected to wifi or PC & "Show Cached data only" to always show cached data untill turned off.

To show the user in what mode he is in I was thinking that the color of the Graph Icons (3 bottom Right) should be maybe in Red for "Cached only mode"
and Blue for normal download based on settings.

Maybe I am the only "Cheap A**" that does not want to sync over the air but rather on public wifi and or over PC.

BTW Many Swiss Iphone users that are not on the swisscom network (with data plan) learnt the hard way how easy it is to burn money by having applications that update every 30 mins with them not knowing it.

My thoughts and as allways with respect.

I had wanted to do something similar when I started this project, but the general concensus was that nobody cared about data usage, and in the meantime I got an unlimited plan, so I didn't anymore either. :D

Sounds great and I understand your issue about not caring as you have an unlimited plan.

I am sure many users on the other side of the lake would like that option as the idea of a unlimmited data plan has not hit all carriers over here. The carries here are still looking at the mobile market as a cash cow and enjoying the fact that people like to show of by surfing the net. (and filling the carries pockets with easy money).

Any time line in sight for the high resolution screens (Touch HD) or do I need to see my optian and get new glasses (grin).

Thanks for your support, looks like you have a great product and I feel its coming to the stage were you should think of a 30 trial and make some cash for your efforts.

I installed it on my BJ II. The phone was updated to WM 6.1. The app does not seem to work. Menu button does not respond, Watch List and Indices list are empty...

Does anybody have it working on the same config?

The Download Rate is how often it automatically update the quotes. It has no effect on clicking a ticker to view a chart. The next update will include options to disable downloading charts as well (in addition to the cached chart settings).

Just add "EURUSD=X" (no quotes) as a ticker. :D

Looked like the perfect app for me, but unfortunately not compatible with my 320X320 screen.

Would be awesome if you could make a separate app that only shows the stock quotes and get rid of the graph... or have setting to disable graph.

Menu does not show completely on 320X320 either, so I am not sure if there is a settings/options menu item or not...

1. Option to hide chart area and increase number of stocks in list
2. Track portfolio cost basis and then possibly have a Today Plugin with summary information of portfolio.

I am using a Moto Q and unfortunately the Menu item doesn't work, so I can't add any symbol, but the update function seems to be working fine.

Is it possible to manually edit a configuration file and add all the stocks I want to it? If so, can you please provide me template and the location where I should copy the file to?

I'm not a commodities expert by any means, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know the only tickers that exist for commodities are futures. For example, there is no ticker for "the current price of gold", instead you would use a futures ticker like GCZ08.CMX (Gold Dec 08).

The only other alternative I know of would be an ETF that tracks the commodity you want, but I think these would only give you a relative strength.

I have plans to add an import/export feature for the ticker lists, which should provide what you need. At the moment though, it's not possible to manually edit the data file.

If you have a PPC emulator, you could set up your stocks there and copy TickerTape.dat to your device. Otherwise, keep an eye out for future updates.

Try adding the .V extension to the symbol for TSX tickers, or .TO for Toronto exchange. There's a link to more exchange extensions in the FAQ.

I have looked into using localized sites (de., hk., uk., etc) already, but I found that only the US site will give me the data feed. The rest of them (I tried 16 of them) don't appear to have the same feed. Sorry. ;)

First of all... Great App. I'm getting all my Canadian stocks and the TSX exchange perfectly.

Couple of minor feedback points for future -

1. Program appears sluggish when it is updating data - can't access MENU or click of next list when it is updating. Slow response.

2. Copying the dat file. I do a fair amount of hard resetting, and would hate to re-input the custom lists all the time. Is is ok to copy out the DAT file to Internal Storage and recopy back after reloading your program after a ROM update or your program update?

I got another idea because not all charts work for me (as mentioned here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3099819&postcount=281)).

How about a XML config file where you can add other servers or settings for each chart? And if no setting is found, the URL to the chart is created like your app does it now:

wouldn't it be great, if the (little preview charts) in the bottom of the screen would look "3d-like", similar to the ones of the touch hd stock-tab?
and flipping throw these charts by finger gesture, like flipping the lists?

More adjustments for non-VGA resolutions
GeckoDev - thanks for the app - this is awesome stuff!

Like many others I'm still looking for a decent WM stock ticker app. This one is the best I've come across by far. You mentioned you're planning adjustments for non-VGA resolutions -- a quick suggestion for that -- make it possible to make the chart disappear altogether. That would recover enough screen area to display enough tickers on a non-vga phone (speaking from what I'm seeing on a 320x320 Epix).

You've got the swipe working for switching between tickers and indexes - very sexy.

Now if you could add swiping for scrolling up/down the list of tickers/indexes, that would be very sexy as well.

Zoom and Pan gestures for the chart would be the ultimate sex-bomb. Imagine: one click to zoom in to any chart (go more granular by 1 period -- say for example 3 months to 1 month). double click the chart to zoom out by 1 period. Pan (swipe) to go forward/back in time.

I have .NET 3.5 installed, TickerTape .51 installed fine, but when I run it, it says that the application requires a newer version of the .NET than the one I have installed. I have the AT&T Fuze with the stock ROM. Any help is appreciated.

Very nice app. Do you reckon there will be an optimization for WVGA devices (se xperia x1) soon? I think one could squeeze in 3 or 4 more tickers in the list, a larger horizontal chart would be nice as well.

Some more features that would be cool:
- Moving averages
- Volume
- Switch between Log and linear scale
- Download when on Wifi or Activesync setting
- Being able to skip through tickers when in horizontal mode (and change graph settings)
- Actual quotes for the xrate currencies (only the graphs are visible for me)
- News for a all tickers in the lists (http://developer.yahoo.com/finance/company.html)

I know this has nothing to do with TT but any clues?

If you have the download rate set to anything other than "Never", it will automatically download when you run the app. You can set it to something like 30 minutes if you usually open it for a quick look and close it when you're done (if you only want it to update when you first open it).

TT still doesn't work.

Sorry, I can't imagine what the problem with .Net is. Unless you're really attached to the AT&T branding in the ROM, you might consider flashing a stock ROM or one of the wonderful custom ROMs here in the forums.

Issue solved: here is why I could not reinstall .NET 3.5: When you first install 3.5 the instructions tell you that at the end you need to change the registry so that 2.0 is turned off (with a 0) and 3.5 is turned on (with a 1). If you uninstall 3.5 the registry is left untouched, meaning that 3.5 is still on; that's why the message that the version already exists. So, I had to go in, reverse the registry: turn off 3.5 and turn on 2.0; now I was able to reinstall 3.5 successfully.

After this, I was able to install and run TickerTape successfully.

I got a little problem with it.
I leave in France so I add many stock like that XXX.PA (paris)
My problem is that the chart don't appears even after downloading. I got the cotation but not the charts.
Strange.. any idea ?

Some suggestions :

- ability to manage the entire list of stock we own like : 300 xxx bought at 3€ and then see the difference with the real price (I won 300 € or i loose 200 €...) I don't know the english word for that :)

- put some alerts on stock : alert if it reach xxx€ / $

- possibility to plan the download like : from 9am to 6pm every 15 mn and nothing after nor the night.
(just see in FAQ it's already in the pipe :))

I have a similar problem with Swedish charts. 1d and 2 d charts doesn't work but 3m, 6m, 1y, 2y & 5y charts works fine. I dont know why, the error message is so small that i cant read it (I have a 320x240 display).

You're right ! I missed that ! Very strange.
What could it be ? a language problem due to our rom....

WOW!! Thanks for this app. This thing is awesome since my broker does not offer mobile software for streaming quotes.

A cool thing to add could be to include a zoom feature on the charts. I LOVE the fact that there is an option to have candlesticks on the charts and the gestures to move between the watch lists! Perhaps something like how the Opera browser works with gestures and the likes.

Gecko, this is an awesome app!

Technical Suggestions:
1. Provide option to not display the chart (providing more room for stock line items, and in this mode display the chart only if pressing the round button (maybe go full scren with stock details and chart on the bottom)
2. When a stock line item is displayed, update the chart with it. It currently updates the chart only after pressing the round button (this is confusing)
3. The company title in the chart is too small and not in a contrasting color, making it hard to read (white text against blue background should work great).

Business Suggestions:
1. To obtain access to real-time quotes, you could try ad placement in the chart area (display when the app is in focus, and auto-slide to hide after 2 seconds). You could also make it ad free if a minimal subscription fee is made.
2. or work with Fidelity to obtain real-time quotes from them, in exchange for branding the app as Fidelity and adding some Fidelity specific features. They currently do not have a PPC mobile app (their mobile app is web based).

To Avoid Losing Your Custom Lists:
The install might overwrite your data file. If you want to keep your existing lists, make a copy of TickerTape.dat before installing, and copy it back after installing.

Hello GeckoDev,

Congratulations on this excellent program.

I wanted comentarte several improvements that would be interesting to perform, to make better:

1 .- enable / disable the display of graphics. Space to remove the data, and are not always necessary charts.

2 .- The graphics come out very small, even by putting the screen in landscape (QVGA).

3 .- Power to edit the values inserted (now we have to delete and create again). Also able to put a name or an alias to each of them.

4 .- Power values in alphabetical order.

5 .- Power to include more than 6 values in each list with scroll bar.

6 .- Power to increase the size of the characters.

I hope you understand me, I'm Spanish and I use the Google translator.

Question- are there any plans to be able to select which symbols to watch on a scrolling or static ticker bar as a today plug-in? Even a simple check box to select then watch on a 1 or 2 line plug-in would be great. It would fit well just above or below my Weatherpanel and batterystatus plug-in. ;-)

It does not look so clean on my Herald/Wing... =[

The text is too small in cretin spots... Can i change that any way...

I would also like the ability to reorder and even sort lists manually or by header info...

EDIT >> So support for QVGA would be wonderful as charts are almost unreadable on my device...

Thanks for the work so far i have tried every other app that i could find and they all pretty much fail to deliver the ease of use and functionality that Ticker Tape offers... =]

I see others have also experienced similar problems to me but not seen what the resolution was.

I dont seem to be able to view the 1d, 5d charts. I am able to view the longterm charts (3months and beyond).

Is there a solution to this.

The application is awesome!!!

To be honest, you application is already good enough, and i just have one little wish: is it possible to include technical analysis in the charts？ like RSI, MACD etc. since you said the application downloads raw data from Yahoo, so with the raw data, it's not difficult to derive those technical indicators.

If you need the formulas of calculating those indicators, i can summarize and send them to you (i took a class in financial technical analysis in university and i still keep the notes). It will be my honor if i can make some contribution in such great application.

Hey guys, whats up.

This program is indeed WONDERFUL. For those who need US stocks. But it doesn't cover international stock markets, simply because it doesn't connect to bloomberg data.

Now, i was thinking of creating a program that gets data off of the bloomberg website, not a live feed. "Since that is a paid service". Am talking about getting those information off of the site public data, like news, graphs, P/E values and so on. This program would mainly be a parser, since we wont have any direct access to their paid service data.

Though of posting this on this thread hoping the devs. may consider the idea.

You can add comodities by searching the code on Yahoo Finance. However, since the comodities price is determined by the price of comodities futures, so you will need to manually update the future code every month

you only have to copy "TickerTape.dat" under the directory where the prog is installed: it has all the lists you created in the prog

I've just pulled through data for FTSE, it's 9:45am right now, and the figures update. However the timestamp says 4:10am. I get 3-4am on all the major indices... Anyone else get different timestamps from current time of download? I think it's because the Yahoo server is US, but it would be nice if we could set the time of download to local, otherwise it becomes confusing.

OK, what am I missing? I've installed 0.5.1 on my Fuze, and while the charts download nicely for any of the default entries or the ones I add (I'm in Canada, so it's a mix of Cdn and US stocks), I don't get any of the ticker/value info in the "name bars" themselves. In other words, all I see is, for example, ^DJI on the left, a 0 in the middle, and nothing else.

I'm sure it's something I am stupidly overlooking, but can't figure it out for the life of me. Any ideas?

Updated: Never mind, now it clicked in after 2 reinstalls. Not sure why, but nice app!

Take a look on "easyshares" for this (freeware & english, german and swedish UI):

here you can do loss/earn calculations automatically based on the amount of shares you own and the paid price.

Been a huge huge fan of this app on my old Touch diamond, but now I've moved onto it's bigger brother - touch diamond 2 was hoping you planned to release an update of this to make the most of the larger screen..

This app runs rings around the funtionality of the "Stock" tab in touch flow 3d...:)

It would be amazing if there were a today screen addin.
Also, if real-time quotes, bid/ask, bid/ask size were available (but if in real time). Chart indicators (at least moving averages, stochastic & volume).
This is a beautiful app - people would pay money for this with these added features.

here is a simple trading code which I use to find stocks which have got big momentum either on the up or down side - I use amibroker to do that but it can be done by any simple program

Pivot = ((H + L + C) / 3);
R1 = ((2 * P) - L);
S1 = ((2 * P) - H);
R2 = ((P - S1) + R1);
S2 = (P - (R1 - S1));
s3 = (L-2*(H-P));
R3=(H+2*(p-L));
Buy = C <= Ref(s3, -2) AND C <= Ref(s1,-1); (buy if close is less than support 3 of prev 2 days and close less than support 1 of previous day)
Sell = C >= Ref(r3, -2) AND C >= Ref(r1,-1);(sell if close is more than resistance 3 of prev 2days and close is more than resistance 1 of previous day)

If this is implemented in your program that would be great along with the display of current pivot, s1...r3
(caution the signal is not for intraday but for the next day for intraday the reverse is true)

Thanks for the pointer. I should have looked harder myself. I got it and installed it and now Ticker Tape is running. But all I get is a download error. Added a few of my investments to it, ran out of room on the list. Seems you can have only 6. Is that right? I guess I could research this thread some more...

First, thanks for that app. Its really nice to have.

But i saw, that charts from german stocks doesn't have a daily and a 5-day chart. Ther's only "No Data Aviable". Thats because TickerTape is downloading the chart-graph from ichart.finance.yahoo.com. But, if you would try to get it from ichart.yahoo.com or de.ichart.yahoo.com it gets the daily chart. But this chart is a bit larger than the normal one. Is it possible to get a config file or a menu switch, where its possible to switch beween large and normal "style" graph which includes the other url and a non downscaled chart graph?

On my HTC Touch HD i redirected the http-query from TickerTape by setting another IP for ichart.finance.yahoo.com in the hosts file (http://windowsmobilepro.blogspot.com/2006/04/etchosts-file-equivalent-in-windows.html) so that the name lookup points to the IP of de.ichart.yahoo.com instead. This is working for now but the chart graphs are downscaled and are looking ugly.

It would be nice if you are able to add this little feature to TickerTape :)

The major issue is chart cannot show clearly in QVGA. It is a little better can view the chart in fullscreen.
Could I suggest to have option that it shows original size of the chart in fullscreen with scrolling?

I found this app last weekend and love it! It works very well on my Samsung i900. I was seriously annoyed to discover that the Bloomberg app is free on the bloody iPhone but requires expensive subscription on WinMo.

I've been wondering about that myself for a few days. Its one thing to give away the app, but its another to be giving data access away. Since its real time, I'm wondering if it only reporting from the BATS exchange and not the New York or NASDAQ. Anyone with an iphone have any info on this?

Knowing the current situation of the stock market is crucial especially if you have stocks invested in it. It is better to be up to dated to the situations so that you could know the actions to be taken if some changes in the stock market occur as to secure your stocks to lose. Today, the stock market is unstable so we need to be vigilant to the current market conditions.

This is almost exactly what I was looking for!!! If I may be so bold as to add a couple suggestions:

- Take credit for what you've done!! - add a "about" tab in the menu with a link to your site and a version number etc.
- be able to add more stocks to an individual list (If this is already there I'm sorry but I couldn't find it)
- I assume the quotes are delayed by some amount - a disclaimer to that effect might be a good idea.
- I really like the full screen chart but it doesn't use the whole screen on my experia. A zoom or expand feature on the charting tool is low priority but might be nice.

hello all
i'm somewhat new to the smartphone and win mobile apps. this app looks great and has seemed to get high reviews. i'm having troubles getting started, i have the htc ozone. i downloaded and installed the app on my device, i do also have .net cf 3.5 installed. when i open the program i can't get the menu (right soft key) to work. do i have to do something different to add stock symbols or is just my phone that doesn't like this app?

Is this project dead?. It works fine but the font is too small, and can not be adjusted. For those who wear glasses to see up close ... this program can hardly see anything, the small size of the letter. :confused:

Is it just me, or did the ticker ^DJI stop working last week? Mine is stuck on the day the Dow was up 127.83, at 10447.93.

I've tried deleting the ticker and adding it again, and from that point it just shows blank - no update.
