Treo 750 WM 6.1 upgrade help!!!

Hi all im new to these forums and the treo 750. I've been reading all about upgrading the treo to the cooked 6.1 roms and radio updates. I've never done this and have NO idea how to do it...I keep reading about flashing the ROM from the miniSD and different things...But is there a step by step instruction on how to do any of this stuff???

Here is a guide, from my experience and from XDA forum :
1. Download the rom file and the radio file:
Rom file from here : http://rapidshare.com/files/89355384/Treo750_WM6.1_WWE_Lite.rar
(It is the lite version but I recommend the normal version.)
The radio file from here :

2. Download the Hard-SPL from here :
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Cheetah/Unlocker/CheetahUnlocker.rar
3. Format mini SD card 32 FAT , using a card reader or other way.
4. Do a HARD-SPL with the CheetahUnlocker file ( step 2) . Connect the Treo with your computer using Active sync and run the file. Use those steps:
- Click the Step 1.... wait the progress bar reach 100%
- Now watch the Screen on your PDA it will launch 2 times verification...
- just click YES ...wait.. and YES again.
- after finisih... wait until the activesync go green again.....
- Now click the Step 2... wait the progress bar reach 100%
- Watch the screen again... same thing.. it will launch 2 times verification.
- click YES ...wait.. and YES again.
- After finish it your PC screen will shows some popup. ignore the reading bla bla bla... about ask u to click ok.
- Just wait untill your activesync go green again.
- Now click that bloody Popup OK button.
- The unlocker app will shows up again..
- Then you will see errors saying.. continue, cancel...etc... bla bla... just click continue.. error message.. iqnore it and then just finish it.
- Now your Cheetah should be on HARD SPL mode.
5. Install the ROM :
a. Using Winrar get the file from step 1. It's name should be : CHEEIMG.nbh
b. Copy the file to the root of the mini SD .
c. Do BOOTLOADER:
1. turn phone on
2. press the MEDIA button AND at the same time with the stylus the RESET PIN
the MEDIA button is the 3rd button on the left side of the phone, under the volume button
the RESET PIN is under the MINI SD card cover
3. keep holding the MEDIA button (left side of phone) until you get the 3 color screen
Wait until it finishes. Then Hard reset the device when prompted. To hard-reset, hold the End key while pressing the pin reset button. Answer “yes” to “Erase all data” prompt.
6. Flash the radio at the same way – just copy the radio file to the mini Sd – it should be the same name. (CHEEIMG.nbh ) .

And that it all !!
Do not restore from your backup (You can restore only your data files).
As I said I recommend the normal 6.1 version and not the lite one - I tried both.
one more thing - maybe before doing the upgrade to 6.1 - try to upgrade to 6.0 version from Palm , and only then upgrade to 6.1 version .

I've also gone round and round trying to figure out the exact way to unlocking my Treo 750. It is Cingular USA branded, and currently has Windows 5 on it.

Do you know of a similar step-by-step guide to unlocking my Treo 750?

I bought my 750 about two weeks ago, and I've been trying to unlock it since!

That's the problem! I've read through the forum over and over, and I'm confused as to what to do!

the steps mentioned above is the unlocker process. have you tried the unlocker yet. what does it do? are you getting stuck somewhere doing the process. ive been there all cofused too. need to know more info in order to try and help.

This is why I haven't started! Every time I think I know enough to begin, I find something more confusing!

For example, the post above is very specific, and easy to understand. Until the end, when he says this:

So, what's the correct way? Go straight to 6.1, or do 6.0 first?

Other threads seem to say that 6.1 is a problem, and that 6.0 is better. So, which is it!

Anyway, I need to unlock, so where do I start?

i would start with upgrading to wm6.0. you shouldnt have to do unlocker process to upgrade stock rom.start there first.

With Regard to upgrading from Palm, I doubt you will find the upgrade anymore on the Palm website, I couldn't when I looked today. You may have to search the Forums for a 6.0 version or go directly to 6.1.

You will run into a problem with the upgrade process if you don't use a good Bootloader upgrader/unlocker. I tried five (5), the only one that worked was "Cheetah Unlocker" this first upgrades your Bootloader to HardSPL. That is critical to be able to update to WM6.1, (even from WM6.0). This upgrades the Bootloader (Step 1) as well as Unlocking the SIM (if neccesary) in step 2 and the Radio (if neccesary) in step 3. You can cancel out of the Program after Step 1 if you don't want to unlock your phone.

By the way, why not unlock it? Are you still under contract with your phone? Do you plan on returning the phone? If not, unlock it, it won't affect your phones capabilities.

I couldn't get my 750 to upgrade this way. The unlocking worked fine, but the updating part never worked.

Why do you suggest doing it this way? Why not use an RUU? I have a Elfin as well and just copied the RUU files into a folder with my nbh file and it worked flawlessly. much easier then the way suggested here and works everytime.

Hi everyone,

I have a big problem and need urgent help please. I have ATT 750 unlocked and I'm outside the States now. My Treo was 6.0 then I upgrade it to 6.1 so far so good. Then I saw a custom rom that I thought it was interesting. the custom rom was for HTC Dimond I think. without paying too much attention. I started the upgrade. It went 70% before the upgrade crashed.

Now my Treo is not responding to anything. I have the original ATT 6.0 SD upgrade and I have the 6.1 lite upgrade. I'm using CheetahUnlocker to flash the SPL (that is working) but when I try to install the 6.0 or 6.1 using Kaiser Custom RUU v1 it crash.

Any suggestion please? need more info? then let me know

A question concerning the CheetahUnlocker. When trying to follow the steps indicated, the following happens:

Step 1: the progress bar never moves, the phone goes to the 4 colored bar screen and sits; activesync indicates it has lost the connection; stays like this unti I soft reset. One the phone is back up the unlocker indicates the "DEVICE IS NOW PATCHED TO HARD-SPL"

Step 2: same as step one except following the soft reset the application indicates"==Radio Patched! Now Unlocking!==" but nothing actually seems to happen aside from getting an Unhandled exception error. Continuing past this error and nothing happens. .NET Framework 2.0 is currently installed (as are 3.0 and 3.5).

For both steps, when the application indicates the current information about the phone there is no Image Version listed. Neither of the steps shows any progress bar on the phone..just straight to what I think is the bootloader screen.

Anyone know what I am doing incorrectly?

Please disregard at this point. I found that the bootloader was trying to read off of an older cheeimg file on the memory card instead of pulling from the host PC via USB. Removing the card seems to have done the trick.

This has become more of a problem than I though. Step 1 completes successfully but when it comes time to unlock the phone (after the first part of step 2) ActiveSync will not connect. Clicking ok results in the early mentioned unhandled exception error stating that a file cannot be found.

Additionally, I can no longer connect the phone using activesync.

Any ideas out there?

Another update: I have managed to get ActiveSync working again by removing it and reinstalling the application. However, I am still unable to get past step 2 of the unlocker. Again, the first part of step 2 completes (the radio replacement) but when I click OK to begin the second part (the unlock itself; instructions provided: click OK to begin and watch your phone's screen) I get the unhandled exception error reporting a missing file.

The instructions provided at the beginning of this thread indicate this error can be ignored and I should just click continue. I do this and nothing seems to happen. My computer sits with the CheetahUnlocker utility open and displaying "==Radio Patched! Now Unlocking!==" but nothing is sent to my phone. I have an activesync session going but nothing seems to be happening. Am I just not waiting long enough?

Please..can anyone help with this? At the very least can anyone tell me how to get the original radio installed as the unlocker indicates that without the proper radio it may not function well; and it doesn't.

so my phone is already unlocked(dont know how, bought it from craigslist that way)...do i need to do this cheetahunlocker even though phone is already unlocked?
active sync is not working at all..i have tried for 2 days now and no sucess...

ok so i have cheeimg.ngh file on mini sd card and in phone, hit reset while holding media button(3rd one on left side)...it goe sto red, green, blue, white screen and says
Pal Tr IPL-0.20
Pal Tr SPL-0.21.0000

and it isnt doing anything else, any ideas?

Which image file did you use? Some of the "Lite" versions have minor issues. I have read that they are not functional with all 750's, for some stupid reason. You may try reformatting the memory card and putting on a "standard" version.

That may be what i need is a standard version of windows mobile 6.1 for my treo 750. I currently have it but it doesn't seem to work properly when i connect with my laptop. When I connect it will sycronize but when I try to add a business application to my phone it tells me to connect a windows mobile 6.1 device. I think i need to reinstall. Any suggestions. Any software out there?:D

Hello every one. I'm new playing around with my Treo 750 wich I own for about a year. I decided to upgrade my ROM from the original (but unlocked) WM5 to WM6.1. The problem is that now im getting this ROAMING icon E and the Triangle that i have read in many posts of this forum. Also the Speed Dial 1 is locked, and i cannot change it. Any one have workouts for those problems? Or some link that may help to solve these problems.

I'll apreciate it.

By the way, everything else is working wonderful. I'm in China using CM service, internet is ok in the phone and think I'm not getting charged for roaming :P.

I hope someone is still reading this.

I eventually managed to get it to work. I had to manually transfer and run athena_unlock.exe on the phone.

But Settings / System / About / Phone still says I'm running the old version.

I can see I'm not running the old version, and indeed I seem to be able to try out various different cooked ROMs but Settings / System / About / Phone stubbornly stays showing the old version.

How on earth can this be?
It everything else likely to be okay to use with it like this?
How can I fix it?
