View Full Version : Chome Configurator Panel Icons Tutorial

Hello xda's, altough I'm not that technically savvy, I managed to learn how to create and manage icons to use in creating Chome Configs panels. Thanks to some xda members like Stylez and Nrg for their help so here it goes, and please correct me if I'm wrong.

Find your icon, I like using the icons from www.iconspedia.com, their icons are hardcore and of course hi-res.

The icon size is 22x22 with the highest dpi you can manage. To resize the icons I use Paint.Net(Stlyez :)) this program is so ridiculously simple its not even funny, just play with it for a minute and you'll have your icon outputted in no time at all.

Icon Name (like the say, "don't know why it is, it just is" lol)

To have some common factor I use the name Chome in my icons that will be used in my panels ie.

chome_gps_sat_active.png
chome_gps_desat_inactive.png

or you can just name it - icon_sat_active.png and icon_desat_inactive.png but again notice the common factor

I don't know why its sat_active.png and desat_inactive.png but all the icons have to end in that format. Once you have your icons launch Chome Config and create your panel ie. Gps, once you see it go inside and create your 1st page, at the top it says:

Panel Icons:

here you'll follow the aforementioned format including the path of the icons like so:

\Windows\chome_gps_sat_active.png;\Windows\chome_g ps_desat_inactive.pg

I highlighted the ";" so you don't forget, if you mess up the icon name or path, you'll end up seeing a red icon with an "x" in the middle, alerting you that something is wrong

The active icon is the icon that will show up when you select that panel and the inactive icon is the icon that will show up when you are not in that panel. If you put the both icons the same, then common sense dictates that the panel will use only one icon for inactive and active views, a lot folks like to have inactive and active icons just to show a little contrast but the choice is strictly yours, and that's why I think this is such a great piece of software, its so configurable yet simple to use once you get the basics. Below are a couple of my icons I used for my Gps panel that holds the following apps: Garmin, Google Maps, Live Search. The little color icon is my active and the bw is my inactive and the original, so you're able to compare the scaled down versions

Well I hope this helps someone and again if some of the more technical members can add some more knowledge, please comment

To carry on the subject here is how to set up your CMYApplication the same goes for all panels.

Here is what it look like:

I have set up Opera Mobile
The Red arrow is the name of panel when condensed "not on the panel"
The Blue is the name shown on the top of panel when expanded
The Green is the location of the .exe "program want to open"
The Purple is the location of the picture .png "i place mine on storage card in a folder called PNG"
You may find that page 2 doesn't show as i think there is a bug i have had it on both ROMs hide the page and make a new one to get 20 pages for 20 programs :)

Hope this helps.

Here is a video of me making an Office panel please do not copy my location of the .exe's as they will be different. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?xdizty1znjm)

But this will show you how to make your own panels :)

I did some searching around, but I couldn't find an answer. Has anyone indexed these panel icons, and the reference numbers for the default? I'm trying to find a panel icon for the myfaves in black and white, so that I can add it to my quick dialer panel. Any thoughts?

There must be more we can do through walk through edit.cpr? I got a how to change the panel with PE which i could upload but maybe we need a thread deicated to it all?

Hello,
Ive been trying to add favorites from opera to a panel, is there a tutorial somewhere how to do this ?
I actually have not been able to add Opera mini to a panel but I think this is how I installed Opera mini..I went to mini.opera.com and installed it but to access the application I have to go to start/java/launch opera.. I can find opera in the application list if I use the template for apps in ChromeConfig and it does add it to a panel it just doesnt work lol
So if anyone knows how to get either of those to work would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for your tutorials but I am still not able to get my icons to show up. The icons on the top bar(_sat_active.png and _desat_inactive.png) show up just fine but it is the individual icons that dont show. This is the case for both my applications as well as my contacts. Any suggestions?

Sorry about that, the phone I am using is a Cingular 2125 aka HTC Faraday aka Tornado. The ROM is WM6.1 for (CE OS 5.2.20279 Build 20279.1.3.4) Rose ROM *UPDATED*. I have installed CHome Configurator to the storage card and that is also where I have my pictures. Because of storing them on the memory card, I am guessing, the small panel icons(the _sat_active and _desat_inactive) do show up as red x's until it refreshes. This isn't a big deal but it is just the individual apps or contacts that still arent showing up. If it would make it easier, I can find a screen shot app to show my panel page.

Icons in clock panel? Do you mean the icons on the left of panel?
There is a thread with 2 x progs BT on "also a discoverable" and the other is WiFi on, you could make a panel with these or add to Program Panel.

First of all thanks for the nice tutorial. However I have a problem and it is similar with this post:

First excuse me for may little english.
I have create a panel to dial contact with chomeconfigurator, in portrait mode icon for panel is not show, if I turn in landscape mode the icon are show correctly.

Anyone have solved this problem?

Thanks to all.

I own an HTC s740 (Rose).
First of all only the "active" panel icon works. The inactive is an "X" image. I use two different icons (one coloured and one greyed) but only the one that I type first works. If I change their order again the active one works.
Moreover, when I turn the phone in landscape mode (by dragging the keyboard) the panel icons disappear.

And then we go to Picture. I tried dozen times and the pictures did not appear. But when I turned the phone in Landscape mode the icons appear regularly.
I then got curious. I decreased the Picture size and it still was visible only in Landscape mode. I decreased it again and then I got a big "X" in the Landscape mode.

It seems that different image sizes appear in the two different modes. Any ideas?

And also why can't I see both active and inactive images?

Sorry for the second post, however I found a solution for the Panel Icons for the HTC Rose (s740) and something like a solution for the Pictures.

When you create a new panel icon you enter your image URL in Panel icons tab. However you need to insert three values there. The first value is for the portrait active icon, the second for the portrait inactive icon and the third for the landscape icon.
So you have created for example a new panel called Programs. You have two different icons and you copy them in the Windows folder. The correct URL is:
\Windows\Programs_active.png;\Windows\Programs_ina ctive.png;\Windows\Programs_active.png

If you dont want two different icons you can always use one in all three cases. That's the solution for the panel icons.

The problem with the Picture for each page of the panel continues unfortunately. I've tried many things and I found that if you use only one URL for example \My Documents\radio.png then you get your picture only in the landscape mode, while it does not appear in the portrait mode. I tried using two values with a ";" between them and then I got nothing again in portrait and a big "X" in the landscape. (I also tried repeating the values three times, although there is no inactive picture here, of course it didnt work).

Then I tried something else. I customized the "Settings" panel which is the only panel that pre-exists and you can edit it. I inserted a new page for my "FM Radio" and I inserted the same URL as previously. Miraculously, this works !! You get a page with a picture that works both in Portrait and Landscape mods.

I'm still baffled by the fact that the same url doesn't work in a custom panel and works only in new page of an already existing panel. I will keep trying to find a solution but I think I'm all out of ideas. Any advices or people with Roses experimenting would be nice.

What about instead of creating a new panel with ChomeConfig using the Reg from settings panel and duplicating in Reg but under different name?
Then editing as you previous posted.
Maybe ChomeConfig is the problem with creating new panel since not really made for land\port devices?

I thought of it too, but I'm not that good with the registry. I tried making a new panel by adding new keys etc. but I failed. I'm not sure about the right way although I followed the instruction I found on a website.

This is going to be complicated.

I have a T-Mobile Dash running NRGZ28's WM6.1...

I love the "HTC Home" home screen but recently downloaded Chome Miniweather 1.2 and really like the clock with the weather image in one panel across the top that "Miniweather" home screen gives.

Is there anyway to change the clock in "HTC Home" to be the one in "Miniweather"?

I followed the tutorial that Stylez (btw awesome!:)) put up, my issue is the file path(i know huh, you'd think i'd know how to do THAT atleast) but when i go through my phone i can see the path location and even the exe, but when i enter that path location when creating a new panel, it wont take it. Any ideas guys?? Ohh and i have another dumb question :p, do i HAVE to make another folder for png's alone so the icons can appear??? I'm learning, please have patience with me!!!:D That sounded more like demand than a request.. lol

I have tried duplicating and editing Settings panel in registry, and it worked. However, I couldn't figure out how to get rid of "Profile:ProfileName" text on collapsed panel. Using GUID from CWelcomeCenter was the solution. Only backside is that this custom panel can't be customized using CHome Configurator. But in that case you can change GUID back for a minute and it will work. Instead of "Profile:ProfileName" there is NO text now, but i'm going to find out how to solve it :)

Also, I have 3 set of panels on my main screen.
the first is the time one with the date, the second one tells me missed calls, texts, email and mms, and the third is a setting one where there is profile, battery, and I also managed to add Facebook app with CHome. So I know how to add with Chome on the panels, however 2 things. 1) I can't change the icon for the profile, always in the panel, the link is like a set of numbers. You know how you can set the pic for Facebook to anything you want, if I change this one, the panl will go blank. Second thing, the second panel where I have the mms and sms etc, I cant edit that so I can't edit the icons or what I want it to show. Why?

I'd guess that one is that the bronzeres.dll wants editing as this holds the resources for many panels, you can change the no.'s to location of image too.
Start menu you will need a .dll with resources and then edit the .lnk so as it chooses the .dll resource:
eg: 44#"\Windows\ROMExtractor.exe"?ROMExtractor.dll,-1
After the ? is the "name" .dll & then the "resource" can put many in one .dll.

If you have the files and have the bronzeres.dll that you want then a good place to start is with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432041
Make sure unsign first edit then resign :)
I use PE Explorer (http://www.heaventools.com/overview.htm) as it's easier for editing resouces.

you can only edit the ones that have to star on the right, in Chome Config. the ones you are trying to edit are hard coded in, not meant to be changed... much.
and if you change things in the registry, like this HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome. then you have to go to this other area HKLM\Security\CHome\DefaultSettings, and make the same changes. or they wont stick.

good luck.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I'm having a problem with 6.5 and Chome Configurator. I'm a wiz at using it now, and have even done some regedits to change the look of CHome, CClock, and other panels that Chome Configurator doesn't edit.

Recently updated from 6.1 to 6.5, (Verizon stock ROM), and I find that whatever panel I create myself in Chome Configurator doesn't show the, "Collapsed Title". (This is what would show for lettering on the panel above or below the active panel.

Doubled checked the registry at both:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CHome\Weather\CONDENSEDTIT LE

and

HKLM\Security\CHome\DefaultSettings\Weather\CONDEN SEDTITLE

They both say Weather, (this is a custom panel), but the word "Weather" just will not show up on the screen. It shows as Weather when I'm ON the Weather screen, just not in the "Collapsed Title" area when I'm above or below it..

Same for any custom panel I create, "Collapsed Title" info will not show on any panel above or below an active panel.

Any ideas, guys?

Thanks.
