Thanks herg62123 !!!
Already installed on my Diamond.
Seems that this version is the Touch HD's version as fonts and graphics are smaller that usual on my Diamond and there's the Zoom bar ...
Anyway, this version is working great !

Zoom Bar? I'm not seeing that on my Polaris. It's not a VGA only feature is it? Could it be because I have the non-standard colour skin?

Flash does not work for me =( can you please post a link to the Flash build you got working?

And: can you please tell, how to change the loading screen in the QVGA built? I am on Touch diamond, but like the very small Address and Naviation bar in the QVGA version!

How does one install this on the Touch Pro? Normally I download the two files OperaL and Opera9.exe and overwrite whats in the Windows folder. When i use your cab I am asked if its ok to remove the existing opera, and then it says 'it cant do that, continue anyway?'.

First of all, i had graphics smaller than usual because I firstly installed the QVGA version on my Diamond. Graphics are now ok with the VGA version.

Regarding the "Zoom bar", a "Lense button" appears on the bottom left side of the screen once you tap one time on the screen.
Then tap on this Button and the "zoom bar" will appear on the bottom of the screen, between the "Lense Button" on the left and the Menu Button on the right.

Grateful to Nani for the advice but like bluemetalaxe I did the upgrade and don't particularly notice any difference either in the size of the text or the zoom bar. Looks just as it did before - and I have checked that the version in About Opera.

Might try the full install but I'm not sure how my current ROM-based version might react! Nothin ventured...!

EDIT: The full install seems to have the zoom bar so I guess the update option only updates the core application

It should be not problem to replace old opera.exes with the new ones. Look with SKTools to Running Processes if there is a opera.exe running in background an close it. If you don`t have sktools or similar, do a softreset and then replace the files.

Wow! This version works very good and fast!

I had to edit the default zoom settings in opera.ini to my liking, since the menu was to small and double tapping on pages didn't zoom in as much as in the original Opera that came installed in my device, I've made it exactly like the original Opera in my diamond and the settings menu look normal again aswell.

Fast version & the zoom slider is also a nice addition to the browser.

I just love it! thanks :)

This is a fairly nice update, but unfortunately the keyboard pops up every time you click on a flash object.
Websites Tried: youtube.com
instantrimshot.com
Flash Version: Flash Lite 3.1 (the one in the first post of the thread)
The zoom slider works nicely and the appearance is also improved (in my opinion). Custom SIPs and the hard keyboard work.
There are no noticeable bugs or issues beside the flash problem and screen rotation problem. Additionally, this version does not appear to be uninstallable.
If you don't use flash at all then I say dl this.

CONFUSED.

all i have installed is the official beta 2 (2723), no flash, nothing else on my qvga touch. Everythings perfectly smooth and fine, but i wanna see if flash has gotten better..

is this what i do??
i want flash, so i would need to uninstall this 2723, delete any left over files and folders, then install WHICH flash cab? "Adobe Flashlite 3.1 WWE" (924k) or "My_Flash3_1" (2.00MB)? THEN reinstall which of these latest operas qvga? Also i read something about a smaller top and bottom bar png set?? I like alot of content space and considering opera mobile leaves the WM start bar visible, any tweak i would appreciate

thanks

Yikes... I'm guessing from the lack of response that I may have screwed something up? I hope not. I don't want to have to re-flash an entire ROM just for this, but right now Opera is pretty much unusable since I can't zoom in on anything.

This is definitely NOT uninstallable yet, so I'm not sure what to do. I would try to install an earlier version over this, but that might screw things up even worse...

also you can type opera:config in the address bar and change the maximum zoom to 145 or higher save and restart opera.

hope that helps.

And the other thing it does not work, i still have no zoom function.

@stpete111: the skin files come directly in the folder ../Opera9/Skins, don´t unzip them, but this skin doesn`t help.

Ok thanks Bluemetal. I can tell you this... I did change the Maximum Zoom to 145, and that DID bring back the slider for me. However, I still have no tap-to-zoom function, and the zoom slider only gets me zoomed so far (not nearly as far as prior versions). If I go much higher than 145 on Max. Zoom, the slider disappears again.

Yes this issue is driving me mad. There must be more people experiencing this issue after the upgrade.
I've compared the old .ini with the new one and nothing indicates the problem would be related to the ini. Could it be that the necessary files are completely missing in this version???

The File transfers option in my Opera pop-up menu is still there but when I press it nothing happens either!!! :(

I've checked the registry but couldn't find anything related to the download manager... I'm not an expert so I really hope than someone with more skills than me can find a solution pretty soon.

I think the missing download manager is going to be a problem for everyone with this version. Its just most have not yet noticed. I just tested it, and its gone for me too. I do not see the download progress, and clicking the Downloads button in the menu does nothing.

I have no problem. The Download Manager is where it's supposed to be. Maybe because i updated Opera from build 2392.

*** with the missing download manager issue some are having: it's in my experience with other builds that an uninstall-reinstall (without reseting the phone) will fix that problem...but this build doesn't show up in the remove programs section so I believe you can try to install it again over the previous installation.....

Version 2745 is the best one I've ever tried on my Diamond. It's very fast, tap to zoom as well as zoom slider works fine for me both of them, launches fine from TF3D etc... My only problem is that the download manager doesn't work, it's like it's not there anymore!

I used the VGA full cab install.

can you direct me to the download link you used please?

i already tried a 2745 and the zoom and settings didn't fit (to vga).
i saw that you wrote that you edited it, but the file in my windows folder was as you wrote.

It works almost perfect on my Uni!
The only problem I have is that when I close Opera in Landscape mode my screen automatically changes to Portrait mode...
Does anybody knows what can be wrong here?

Thanks,

PD: I changed the following as recommended before by owziee:
[Adaptive Zoom]
Maximum Zoom=200
Minimum Zoom=160
Virtual Screen Width=960
Minimum overview Zoom=60

Ohh maybe it´s because this version is only for Diamond screen that I´m having the above problems?
Hope someone can help me on this

I really dont know why people are making a fuss about waiting for the SD version!!!
you just simply install with the old Opera (e.g Build 2392) that has SD version installable .cab

After done, just replace the 2 files with the upgrade files from the Build 2745 that you can find in page 1 here.

Voila!!!!!!

Works like a charm!!!!

Yes, i did it today with Opera 1957 on SD. At first it told me that Opera couldn't be uninstalled, then it asked me if i wanted to continue. At the end, it said that the installation failed, but it was actually installed.

So now i have both version, the 2745 that i can launch from internet tab and the 1957 that is the default browser, also on hardware key.

The good thing is that i could put Flashlite 3 on the 1957 version so i have one version with flash and one version without flash.

Same here... now I am stuck... I am assuming there are some registry entries that need to be manually deleted too. Anyone know what to do to remove a program that can't be uninstalled.

While I am grateful for the work put in to making this cab, it would be nice if there was a note mentioning that this cab could not be uninstalled.

*** To make it easy for people with VGA devices ***

In the file below I've attached everything you need to get Opera 9.5 build 2745 working in true VGA with download manager + zoom bar and everything else.

I highly recommend upgrading to v2745 because it's extremely fast and stable!

Instructions: (Can also be found in file below)

1. Install Opera Cab
2. Replace the skin in the Opera/Skins folder with this one (Don't unzip the skin file!)
3. Edit the Opera.ini in Opera folder with following adaptive zoom settings:

[Adaptive Zoom]
Maximum Zoom=200
Minimum Zoom=160
Virtual Screen Width=960
Minimum overview Zoom=30

4. Copy Opera_loading_POR_16bit.png to Windows folder, when asked to replace choose yes. (This makes your Opera loading splash screen become the standard VGA aswell.)

Enjoy latest Opera in VGA fully working with Download manager and Zoom bar.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SWEDISH LANGUAGE DIAMOND, DON'T USE THE INCLUDED OPERA.INI SINCE IT POINTS IT'S CACHE TO INTERNAL MEMORY WHICH HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME IN SWEDISH LANG DEVICES.

something is probably wrong with the VGA version that *(don't kno his name) released but u can always make ur VGA version by changing the skin and zoom settings.

**side note: don't change user agent spoof from default "1" because you will be unable to post here at xda. it somehow causes the reply box to not take input, thus you'll be unable to post.

Here are my Pros and Cons of the QVGA full version:

Pros:
1. Fastest Opera 9.5 yet. The loading and zoom response are 2nd to only Opera Mini. Much faster and more responsive than Skyfire.

2. Smallest footprint of Opera Mobile 9 versions yet.

3. No more Out Of Memory Pop Ups. I stopped using the program due to these. Whatever they fixed - thanks.

Cons:

1. Memory issues because:
A. Cannot be installed on SD card. Since I'm running low on internal memory I will be doing a hard reset very soon due to this install. It is a great program, but I need a SD version.
B. No choice on where to save the cache/cookies. It came from the Diamond with tons of internal storage so it was probably never seen as an issue.

2. Cannot be uninstalled. This one really sucks. I even tried to use Antov's Pocket Mechanic but Opera Mobile is no where to be found in the installed programs.

3. Is not compatible with my hardware keyboard (Cingular 8525). When I type with the hardware keyboard Opera will only type one letter at a time. Sucks big time. You can tell this was made for a device without a keyboard. If we could get the Raphael version I'm sure this issue would be rectified. It does work with my software keyboard (TouchPal 3.5) perfectly.

4. The web address bar closes quickly. This means numerous attempts to type in a website address. Annoying.

5. The download manager progress bar doesn't work properly. It shows the files as being completed immediately. The manager itself does work.

I am also unsure how to make Flash run. I haven't attempted to either so no comment on how well it works.

Thanks for the find guys!

You can choose where to store the cache via opera:config or editing the opera.ini. Works great for me.

Last week I installed this 2745, it would work so I tried to uninstall. That didn't work so I hard reset. I reinstalled the 1957 SD card build on my mogul since that one works the best.

Today, since I am still in the hard reset mood. I uninstalled 1957 and installed the 2392 SD version. Then upgraded that one to this 2745 with the two files.

Everything worked and it is the fastest Opera I have tried. It loads in a second or so. And it also loads the pages faster than any others.

After all that, I am back to 1957. Why?

1.) The favorites aren't being ported over (1957 does).
2.) Favorites show huge (not in 1957)
3.) Favorites don't show the favorite icon (1957 does)
4.) Ugly green loading progress bar (1957 is blue)

Why can't Opera make the newer versions with those features?

Also, does anyone know what the little right side and bottom scroll bar indicators are called in the skin file? I tried copying over the skin file from 2392 to 1957 and they didn't show. Remember, 1957 has the little overview map. I wonder if those scroll indicators are exclusive to the 23xx...

So many differences...

Put the image below in windows folder. When asked to replace, choose yes. Alternatively you can change this to a custom image, save as png and name it Opera_loading_POR_16bit.png.

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/6790/operaloadingpor16bityj4.png

I must say I'm enjoying this Opera version more and more, now I don't miss Opera Mini anymore, this one is so fast and smooth it's almost more fun to browse on my Diamond than on my PC :) I've also put an ad-blocking filter in opera directory to boost loading of pages even more.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is that it doesn't shut down properly but it can easily be done with sktools or any other alternative taskmanager that shows running processes.

woaaah? 10mb of ram? that's a lot. I just look at mine again after it has been running all day yesterday and lastnight and it takes up 301kb. it's even using less ram than total commander which is using upwards of 556kb. somehow this doesn't seem logical to me because opera usually use around 2mb.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SWEDISH LANGUAGE DIAMOND, DON'T USE THE INCLUDED OPERA.INI SINCE IT POINTS IT'S CACHE TO INTERNAL MEMORY WHICH HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME IN SWEDISH LANG DEVICES.

opera 9.5 build 2745+DownloadManager_with_instructions_&_files_for_VGA.rar:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CO1JP49G

I followed these instructions and this works AMAZINGLY on my touch pro. I also made three registry edits because opera was driving me nuts.

When ever i switched from landscape to portrait, or the reverse, opera hid it self and the dialer popped up. This has been happening even on the stock with my phone, so, i went searching into my registrys phone settings menu and changed HiddenAlertPage to "00 00 00 00". This seems to have fixed the problem.

I also went into Operas registry and changed gsensorupdate to "0". It annoys me that this thing even uses the gsensor to begin with, i can live without it.

Lastly, in the operas registry, i hid the slider, the touch pros scroll wheel still works with this release.

I had to make those zoom settings from within opera, address bar "opera:config", and with all said and done, this is one fast release, thanks for the help!

Also, about the text warping, is there a setting where it will wrap to the screens width no matter what zoom level im at? It only wraps on double tap right now

I really hope that ONE more person asks if a storage card version is coming. Not many people have asked yet and it's not annoying in any way, shape, or form.

By the way, is anyone working on a version to be installed to storage card????

Agree mate

But what will happen with the ones like me that already installed in main memmory? I can´t see any way to remove or uninstall Opera
Could be because this version is not intended for my Universal? Anyway it works fine!

I love this release of Opera. The only is that the hardware keyboard doesn't work in the address bar; instead it goes to full screen after a few letters. It was obviously built for an on screen keyboard. Has anyone found a work around?

ALSO, after doing tons of research, which Flash cab works better with this version? My_Flash3_1.CAB or Dvha79 AdobeFlash3.1 plugin.cab?

thats what i was confused on.

Maybe someone will help us eventually.

what I needed to know. Still liking my 1957 - any one switch and stay, and why?

1957 is a Samsung Omnia Build. All others (except 1708/1718) are HTC Builds.
The only HTC Build with working hardware keyboard ist 1180 I think.

I've been using 1184 and everything works (besides Flash?...Never tried and don't care too). The only problem with the keyboard is the address bar disappearing when entering an address within 5 seconds or so but if you type fast or redo the address bar, it's okay. All fields work with hard keyboard.

DE with \Speicherkarte\Programme:

EN with \Storage Card\Program files:

This is pulled from page 22 of the other Opera post. Use the EN one. That's the one I've been using and it's no problem, just a tad slower. I have never touched Opera Mini after using this one. Browsing pretty much the full web (-flash) is much better. Most sites direct you to full instead of Opera Mini's mobile cnn, etc etc.

use another taskmanager (like advanced task manager), which allows you to show AND stop processes! than u'll be able to update to newer opera build.

I installed "advanced task manager" and found out that the process Opera9.exe remains in memory even if one closes the browser.

Moreover, there's a process called "Operaprel.exe" (Opera pre-loader?)
that re-loads Opera9.exe as soon as one kills that process. One must kill the process "OperaPrel.exe" to fix that.

The program "operaprel.exe" seems useless to me, its only function seems to be to "pre-load" Opera and make it start quicker. But it occupies a lot of memory like that. I could live with a slightly slower program start.

bluemetalaxe
11th November 2008, 02:57 PM
you are right, i checked this things with sktools (but i have definitly no operaprel.exe running):
- starting time for opera: 8 seconds
- when closing, opera9.exe still sits with 5 MB in my RAM.
- but starting time then: only 4 seconds !

so thats the reason and its wanted by the programmers. if you have enough memory and often use opera this can make sense.

i now use sktools to close it after some time automaticly (FreeupRAMService) As usuall SKTools is a musthave for ppc.

Agreed. There is no need for a hard reset. All we need to know is which registry setting to change/remove. I suspect there is one. And please mention that a cab is not uninstallable in the first post. Thanks.

Opera 9.5 Build 2745 Upgrade for VGA (http://www.4shared.com/file/71399787/5836d6a3/Opera_95_Build_2745_Upgrade.html)

Firstly I installed the file downloaded from pauldgroot's link to my virtual PPC WM6.1 VGA. Secondly, I made the Upgrade only of Opera 9.5 Build 2745 for VGA by copy necessary files just for upgrade from virtual PPC. Finally, I upgraded Opera in my Diamond Touch with those file just made. It works like charm in my O2 Xda Diamond. Zoom bar appeared

It works fine with Adobe Flashlite 3.1 WWE, surf and play video in youtube and dailymotion very well.

I usually test new softwares with my virtual PPC first then try with my Diamond, it's more safe :)

Anybody with keyboard issues on a Titan, Opera 9.5.1957 works fine (I haven't tried anything with Flash content). The screen rotates OK when the keyboard opens. The GUI is pretty nice looking, too.

My only problem is that I tend to run out of system memory really fast on graphically-intense websites.

This is the odd thing, i tested it repeatedly after my first soft reset and it worked like i wanted. NO MORE GSENSOR CAPABILITIES FOR OPERA! WOOT!

Then, after a soft reset, it went back to using it again , i changed the key again and again but it just didnt pay attention to it anymore. I dont know what to say. Its so annoying to have auto rotate especially when i often read sideways. Also, the dialer is inconsistent in its popping up. It seems like when i rotate my devices screen in general, it just jumps to the application thats running before the one im in no matter what. Its annoying, crazy annoying

So, the registry edits i made seemed to work, but they ended up not working after all.

yep, thats how it is, after you remove opera you will have to set back the numerous defaults back to mobile ie. looking through the registry, i saw a whole bunch of stuff that needs to change back. I gave up for this morning because i had somewhere to go.

In my searching i found this:HKLM\SOFTWARE\opera\preload\RealExit =0
that key causes opera to stay open after you exit it, you'd have to use a task manager to fully close it. Just change value from "0" to "1" will cause it to exit fully. no need to softreset.

How can I uninstall/remove the app... I even hacked the CAB to allow uninstalls but it still keeps failing.

I installed this on an HTC Fuze. I'm not sure which version of Opera comes pre-installed on that, but I feel that this "upgrade" is worse than what's already on the phone. The UI is a bit messed up, zooming doesn't work as it did before, and all pages are being redirected to their mobile versions.

Anyone else on a HTC Titan or Mogul have an issue with the Slide out keyboard only typing a single character then stops working? Any fix for this ? I've been looking for alternate Opera mobile versions because of the "Out of Memory" Bug that the newest beta has. Stupidest Bug Ever, especially since cache files are stored on a 4gig MicroSD

I have installed on an Ipaq 210. I like the way it works generally. Clean and Fast. I have two problems for which someone may have a response. First, is there any way to tweak so the dpad advances by page rather than by link? I have checked the .ini files and can't find anything similar to the opera 9.5 official beta which allows changing the dpad functions. Secondly, when I first open opera, typing into the address bar is painfully slow. Not simply slow but painfully so. It only appears to occur in the address bar. Typing into google search box and others works normally. Any ideas on a tweak? Thanks.

As it clearly states on the Opera 9.5 website. This is a beta version. Flash is not yet supported in this version!

I was referring to the Adobe Flashlite 3.1 plugin. I am more than aware that the Opera 9.5 Beta doesn't initially have flash support TYVM.

i notice that it doesnt free up the memory after exiting. i have a titan with a 20-25mb of free memory at startup, so its a big issue for me.

I have noticed the same problem. Everytime i close the program, my HTC TC always fail to reclaim the memory. Even, i use the Oxios Hibernate or memory clean, it still fail :(

best method to make this version uninstallable and SD installation is installing v2392 SD version then upgrade 2 .exe files!

You will need to end the process. Opera is running at the background. You can use HandySwitcher - Ultimate Task Manager to end the process.:)

Hi to all Opera users

Please visit this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502

The idea is to have in one thread all the different versions of Opera 9.5 circulating all over the forum, to get easy acces to them.

Please feel free to share about this and hope all can contribute

Thanks,
