Is anyone working on porting this to other devices ? I found a thread in the general-general section without feedback so i think its not well known what Asus brought out with his p320 device, but it runnes on a slow 200 Mhz cpu with QVGA with smooth animations and fadings so this or Parts of it could be interesting for us and not to hard to crack (hope so) for other devices:

would be nice, it´s a completely new concept (at least for me) and Asus really had some nice ideas. Eg the player, selecting single songs out of one album and then start to play - don´t know any other app / player that has got this feature.
Eh, you´re telling me there are playlists...I know, but this isn´t as convenient.

Hi there! I have Asus P320, but there is no Glide GUI in this phone. Only the today plugin is the same. My firmware is 4.10 and the latest is 4.13. There is no word about Glide in the change log.

It looks darn good! However, I think that the p320 only has the 2d stuff (like the opal and the m2d) on asus' homepage one can see that the p552w has the glide stuff and it has a whole lot stronger cpu than the p320 624MHz vs 200MHz. Just my two cents.

Truely Amazing that those run so smooth on a 200mhz CPU... god that things battery life would be rather extensive making it an excellent mp3 player for general users and since its so finger friendly it could be for anyone really.

They're usually pretty slow in releasing the rom images... but hopefully they'l release it for the P552 / P565 soon.

I contacted hdubli, I think others should take the initiative too.

He basically said he'd dumped the ROM image but that he would look for the relevant ASUS Glide files and upload them and PM me. I said thank you, but I'm still awaiting a reply :(. In hindsight, maybe I should have just said to upload the whole ROM, since my last pm to him was on 12th Dec after which there's been no reply.

Maybe others could pm him to encourage him? :)

Another person I spotted with a P565 I sent a PM to just 2 days ago, but no reply as yet.

Lastly, as someone's pointed out, we need ROM dumps of both P565 and P552W, since P565 is VGA and P552W is QVGA.

I extracted the files (dump) and used bepe's DSMTool, but all I got is a bunch of folders with weird names. I "think" I know which is the folder that we want but I don't know how to create .cab from it. And it is fairly big, about 60MB. I uploaded it, so if anyone can do something with it download and share with us!

.nnot exactly... i just made quick test, if it works.

just trimmed oemapps rgu to what you see, then i copied WHOLE asus 552 oemapps to asus 525's /windows without overwriting any files, made softreset and that's all(so, what's missing, it was copied there).
it was not working perfectly, because i cut off whole emzplayer, used by glide, also, weather needed manual reg fixes...

this plugin is VERY strictly linked to few asus apps. i cannot tell, if it is possible to use it on HTC devices...
there is player + emz codecs(never seen emz codec on htc devices), weather module + its res, and other apps and dlls...
netcf 3.5 is NEEDED to use whole thing, that's for sure.

i lost interest in that plugin, because i realized i do not need something as big as that plug...

maybe someone will make cab some day...

omnia supports though emz codecs. maybe we can port it to other devices.

oemapps contains many xmls named as "country".xml, here's Angola, in example:

I guess it works for Asus only mobile phones. So we need to port it to non-Asus devices.

It worked fine on my P750 too -- we might need to hex-edit some of the files just like they do for Manilla2D to work on non HTC phones.

Can you extract glide cab ? (sorry for my bad english)

For those of you who got the AsusGlideLight Cab working -- were you able to get other countries working through the xmls in /Windows/ ? I've been tweaking them -- but I can't seem to get it to work.

I live in Toronto, Canada -- so the code should be NAM|CA|ON|TORONTO

After modifying the xmls - the entries seem to be blank or they display the wrong cities?

Yes, I got my Asus P535 to work as well. Am using WM6.0 with original Asus ROM (WM6).

Haven't played with the XML files under /Windows/ yet. Will try it out.

The codes from Accuweather can be retrieved from the URL, eg:

You have to click "Mobile" and then search the city/country while in Accuweather home page. (It is located at Top Left Corner on the homepage, next to iPhone).

Success in making the weather work. I parasite on one of the existing XML files, and append the city of my choice into it. Save it and Use Asus Today in Control Panel to load the city.

I had to change the / to | as earlier I copied directly from the URL which uses the / symbol. Could not work! Later, I discovered my error and swap the symbols and it work now.

Now, need to figure out why a newly created XML file and placed under /Windows/ will not show up in the weather console. Anyone any ideas?

In this zip, you can find the directory extracted from asus p552w ROM and containing all the weather location files in xml format.

Maybe you can use these and directly put them in you windows directory?

What do you think about this asus today "light" version? Is it really part of glide distribution?
I ask that because i try it yesterday evening on my asus p552 (without "w") which is "glideless" and it doesn't seem to be exatly the same widget that is available in glide (but i've only seen videos of glide, so i can't be sure).

I soft reset but to no avail.

One thing this Asus Today is lacking is a set of icons for quick launching of frequently used programs. If there's a way to do this, I would gladly replace the News reader with a set of 10 program icons.

Asus Today lite works well with another add-on, QuickMenu (also found in xda developer & hacking forums). I think they complement each other pretty well. QuickMenu gives me the ability to launch my fav programs, and on top of that, I found a good feature called "Hibernate" which frees and cleans up all the memory leaks which in the end, u regain back all the memory just like when u had just restarted. Also, pBar 1.5 adds to more convenience. So this 3 programs, Asus Today lite, QuickMenu from naning, and pBar 1.5 gives the standard WM6 a fast and convenient way to control and launch programs.

I have even uninstalled SPB Mobile Shell with customization, a good program but takes up too much memory.

as for me I'm still running spb mobile shell, and I have the spb today screen right under the Asus today plugin -- giving me the same functionality (quick access to connections/programs) + photo calling, it takes a bit more memory but it actually works out really well :)

I discovered that Asus Lite plug-in will not free up any virtual Comm ports for other applications. Case in point would be GPSProxy, a program that enables the in-built GPS hardware and links it to Garmin Que. GPSProxy will give an error that it cannot use the Virtual Comm port. Attempts to find a free port also fails. Seems lite Asus Lite when loaded, prevents virtual comm ports to be freed.

If Asus lite is disabled via the Control Panel as a plug-in, GPSProxy will get back its Virtual Comm Port. The good news is, once GPSProxy gets its Virtual Comm port, and Asus Lite is enabled again, there is no problem.

But then, it's a pain to do this once you reset the PDA. Asus lite will load first as default, and then repeat the above procedure so that GPSProxy can be used.

These are my findings. Anyone has any idea why Asus Lite grabs all the virtual comm ports? I don't know how Asus Lite works in the background.

Actually, this is not the entire "Glide", but the entire "Multihome". I mean, it doesnt include eziphoto, ezimusic, aytime launcher etc. But it has the Asus Multihome Today plugin which is working very good with 3D option.

Yeah...

that rom with Multihome is mine. IT is only entire multihome..without posibility of listen music in included player.(Had to insert ezimusic also but I didn't succed).

The rom is for P535...

Asus.light.cab - this is home menu from Asus P320 and work for Asus P552 but nothing like the GLIDE unfortunetly

If you want to use glide on your p552, you have to flash it with a p552w ROM.
A courageaous guy from france manage to do so after modifying rom exe update file for p552w.
But there is still a problem to make gps and wifi work. (so it's not really worth it yet)
Hopefully, i wasn't really interest in gps or wifi, so this not really a problem for him.

Furthermore, i don't want to be offtopic here but, did someone knows where i can find threads explainig the meaning of the different partitions of the initial storage device?
I manage to dump my p552 ROM and i get 3 raw files and i manage to dump imgfs from part002.raw. But i don't know the utility of the first 2 parts and how to see the files in it.

An update to this. GPSProxy will not be able to work with a virtual comm port with Asus Light, but GPSgate have no issues. GPSgate can create virtual comm ports even with Asus Light being started first. So the problem with virtual comm ports not being able to be freed up is a GPSProxy issue, and not a system issue.

To those who is still on the Asus Today Lite version plug-in, adding Countries to the weather can be done as follows:-

1. Under your device Windows folder, find countries.xml. Edit it and add a country of your choice....eg malaysia

2. Rename one of the country xml file, e.g moldova.xml to the country u have just selected, say malaysia.xml

3. Edit this malaysia.xml file to include the cities that can be found on accuweather.com website. (I've described earlier on how to do it, please find previous posting on this thread).

4. Go to the plug-in on the weather page. Tap it so that the Country and City selection dialogue screen shows up. The country and cities of your edit should be selectable now.

and works great the only problem is; and error code show every time i restar my phone. (shdesk.exe) try to reinstall or delete. I try to reinstall and don't work, same error. But working great just I want to know if some one know what to do to eliminate this error.

I put rigth down if any one whats it's only for Asus P835 :cool:
