One of the most common tasks i do many times a day, is turn the wifi in my ATT Tilt on and off. For this I have to go to the Comm Mgr and toggle it on and off. I've always wanted a one tap way of doing it, and had used BatteryStatus in the past, but its icon was too small. With Manilla2D, we dont even have that option anymore, but we do have the nice big manilla launcher.
So i put together some C++ code from myself and from samples around the web, and made a simple exe that just toggles the wifi on and off. I've cabbed it up, so that it will install into \Program Files and put a shortcut in \Windows\StartMenu\Programs called AKToggleWifi.
You can now add it to the Manilla launcher and it will show up as in the attached screenshot.
You can uninstall it from the Settings\System\Remove Programs.
I havent tested it on any device except my Tilt/Kaiser running a 6.1 ROM from Sakajati (Hyperdragon/Blackstone).

Just flat out awesome. Works perfectly, using the default AT&T WM6.1 ROM minus bloatware.

to be honest... it's recommended for anyone.. Hbutton is very very fast and works smoothly.. and also very stable.
you can set multiple apps for every button and there are many options to customize the way it loads them... also there are options to assign
Quit, Ok, Toggle WiFi, Toggle BT.. and many more options.

i wanted something extremely simple to use, needed no configuration and didnt need other apps to be installed on the device. Hence i wrote this in C++. Yes, other tools can do more and thats great, but they all might require some setup. Since i flash often, i wanted something for myself that i can just use without using any brain energy. Hence the simple app. I'm glad some people find it useful... i certainly find it extremely useful for my own usage style. I released it to everyone rather than keep it to myself, because i have benefitted from the work by other developers on this site, and even if 1 other person finds it useful, i'm satisfied.

do you mean you want something to turn just the phone radio off, similar to how this one turns wifi off? i'll look into it..havent looked at those api's yet, but it should be possible. However, just out my curiosity, why you want to turn the phone off so often?
big thanks for this function!!!

Hello,
I have a little bug with AKToggleWifi.
When I use AKToggleWifi to stop the wifi, it will go on automatically some minutes after !
I use a exchange server to sinchronize and the wifi.
When I stop the wifi with the comm manager, the problem is not here.
I already have the problem with a SPB software (mobile shell or mobile suite, i don't remember)
Do you have idea to stop the wifi going on automatically ?
Sorry for my bad english :/ and thanks a lot !
EDIT : I'm on a French polaris with amine 2.0 (but the problem with spb is on the original rom)

hi dcat,
i'm sorry...i haven't seen this issue before on my device. AKWifiToggle is really quite a simple program..it turns on wifi if it is off, and turns it off if it is on, when you run it. Then the exe exits. So it shouldn't and really cannot start up on its own and toggle the wifi on later. Can you please check using a task manager like Schaps Advanced Task Manager and make sure that the exe inst running in the list of running processes? You can get Schaps Task Mgr from http://www.touchxperience.com
Do you have some other program that automatically turns wifi on when it needs internet access?

Hi,
It's not AKWifiToggle who turn on wifi when activesync need connect ! I think that you shut down the wifi a way who it can be turned on automatically if needed by active sync (like SPB...) and the comm manager turn wifi off a way that activesync cannot turn on...
The issue is the same with SPB and your soft.
I have not tried other soft who turn wifi off.
Thanks.

dcat,
now i understand what you mean...thanks for the clarification. I will look into this and see if there's some other API i should be using to set the state of the wireless radio.

Thanks again Akarnik. Mind submitting it again to the Gecko database? (new DB design)
I'd really love to have it there. It's IMO one of the must-have apps on Windows Mobile. Another humble suggestion would be to change the icon for something with a transparent background.
Great work, I really appreciate it!

AKToggleWifi ....definitely a must have apps ...I love it ;)))
PS: For those under WM6.5 who wants to change the default icon from "AKToggleWifi" I recommend to use the "reSTART" application which allow you to modify the associate icon on a shortcut by any high quality .PNG icon

I downloaded this program and it works great in my HTC/Sprint Touch Pro. There is one tiny problem: Why is the icon that appears in the programs folder blurry? The letters for "wifi" is blurry in the program folders. Anyway to fix this?

The original version only has 16x16 and 32x32 icons.
It looks blur cause it is blown up to fit the higher res.
I hope akarnik doesn't mind, here is a version with 48x48, 64x64, 96x96 and 128x128 icons with transparencies, redid the original 16x16 and 32x32 with transparencies as well.

I replaced the .exe file in my Windows/Programs folder with your version. Then, I copied and pasted a shortcut to Start Menu folder, but the icon is still blurry on my Touch Pro. What am I doing wrong, or did you upload the right file?

xiongguoy,
Thank you, any chance you could give a white background, either that or get rid of the green outline?
Screeny attached.
