I'm sure all of you know about tobias.walvogal's RealVGA by now. Awesome program by the way, found here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830

For those of you that have used it you know that the respack provided by tobias may be a bit outdated and is missing the a few dll's. Attached is my respack cab pulled from ATT's Tilt ROM CE OS 5.2.19214 (Treo Pro is 5.2.19216). Sorry, English only.

Edit (11/11/2008): You also need to install sdkcerts.cab below because my dll's in the respack are signed with sdk test certs.

Also, you will notice that the battery indicator is pretty much useless once you go 96 dpi. Simply unzip and copy the attached BatteryIndicator.exe to your Windows folder on your pro via ActiveSync and soft reset. No need to use Total Commander or Resco Explorer. You will lose the line that is now your battery indicator and you will have the volume symbol instead. To revert back simply delete BatteryIndicator.exe again via ActiveSync and soft reset again.

Lastly, to get the regular windows mobile battery indicator back you will need to go to HKLM/Software/Microsft/Shell and change ShowTitleBarClock from 1 to 0. If you guys want a cab to make this change I can make one, but if you're already able to complete the 2 steps above you should be more than capable of making a registry change.

Good Luck!!

Is there any other way to remove the useless battery icon from the tray? Tried your program a few times and worked at first but now, its a no go.

Thanks for the files, but for me this made things worse.

Instead of removing the battery icon, you can use ArielBattery 2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278) (freeware). You can position this meter over the old (useless) battery icon.

Optionally you can add a link in the Windows\Startup directory to the program, to automatically load it after startup.

Just curious, what got worse? Other than some sizing problems.

Hi,

How do you make the registry changes stick??? I got them to change, but they go away when I perform a soft reset.
Thanks,
Rich

The DK96 res pack certainly seems to be better than the original in that the threaded SMS icons are now displayed :-) However, the 'Start Menu' icon found at the top-left of the screen and the "X"/"OK" normally found at the top-right of the screen are now missing!!

The 'Coms Manager' seems to have problems whichever 96 respack you use.

In addition, I have just noticed that the icons shown on my start menu are wrong (they show application icons for 'Programs' and 'Settings'.

It would be great if these issues could be resolved :-)

Indeed, those were my gripes too...

I was never able to figure out the Comm Manager issue. As for the remaining icon issues you need sdkcerts. Sorry, totally forgot. See first post.

Thanks akadonny, the missing icons are now there!

I just have to find some way around the Comms Manager now. Does anyone know if there is another Comms Manager I can use?

When I use RealVGA I just turn off the HTC Comm Manager. I don't actually use it other than to turn the bluetooth on and off. You just need to change:

HKLM/ControlPanel/WrlsMgr
Redirect = \Windows\CommManagerLink.exe

to

Redirect = \Windows\wrlsmgr.exe

You'll be left with the generic wireless manager that only has Phone, Wireless and Bluetooth. All of the Treo Pro hardware buttons (radios off with top power and long hold of side for wifi) should still function normally.

When I attempt to copy the unzipped batterIndicator.exe file that is 0 bytes to the palm pro, a message appears that asks if I want to replace the existing file that indicates the current file is 19.9 KB and date which it was created. I can click, Yes, Yes to All, No, or Cancel. If I click Yes or Yes to all, a dialog appears that states BatteryIndicator cound not be placed on the device. You do not have permission to create this item. Now, whats up? I asked earlier and did not get an ANSWER.

Trying out RealVga on my treo pro in 128 and 96dpi.

After uninstalling (from 128dpi), was hoping that it would back to normal but i notice that my icon has grown bigger than previuos. I don't think this is normal.

What can i do? I don't like a bigger icon :(

An exported bckp key (using Resco Registry) it's fine with me, since I can always imported back into the registry with the ShowTitleBarClock = 0 and do the soft-reset.

I think you are supposed to first (before you uninstall realVGA) switch back to 128 dpi and then proceed with the unistall, so the qvga sticks after a soft-reset.

You are correct.

Before uninstalling, one must switch back to 128dpi first.

@ xxpinballxx,
Reinstall RealVga
Choose 128dpi. - it should reset.
Then you can uninstall RealVga.

Side note to all:
Learn the benefits of Sprite Backup.
Whenever something starts acting weird, you can just do a Sprite Restore.

Hello,
I have testet all my programs through 7 Hard resets, and there seems to be no other explanation: Real VGa hack makes the ring tone not sound on the treo pro. Thus I have deinstalled and done a hard reset yet again...:(

Any explanations?

I have had no problems.

I guess you could try Ebag's version over at TreoCentral:

had the same problem with the ringtone.
thankfully, ebag's version definately worked for me.
I'm just confused about replacing the battery icon. this thread indicates just to overwrite the existing battery file. however, on another forum, it indicates that you needed to edit a service..

You need to install sdkcerts first before installing battery icon cab

Try to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424926

You can get battery Icon there.

Really like the Lumens theme on the Treo Pro. Does anyone have a "fixed" version for the 96DPI screen?

mccune
11th April 2009, 09:41 AM
Fixed the problem of the previous post myself. To bad the Treo Pro is not so popular :(
Here (http://sites.google.com/site/nebowiki/dpi-setter) is the solution to the wallpaper problem.

Created a cosmetic fix for the dialer when using RealVGA. Now you only have one small line under the lock button when your in a call. Other than that it works quite well for me.

Update: fix does not seem to work when using speedial.

To bad it does not work when using speeddial (hold 1 for voicemail etc.).

Having some ideas though.. ..if that works I'll post it here of course!

You're welcome. It's worth saying that the battery indicator included in quickmenu works wonderfully as a replacement for the original one using realvga (and quickmenu too, if you need larger start menu!)

great work. i read all of your posts all over about realvga. its great that you did a new version because everything seemed very complicated. did you make one file or something simple to install? everything i read was all over the place and is saw way too many and dif directions.

is it simple as installing your new realvga, certs, and the battery icon fix?

mccune
19th July 2009, 11:06 PM
It is...

Post are scattered because some threads are already running in the Palm Treo 800w thread. Since they are both similar it's kinda useless to start two topics.

Already mentioned on TreoCentral to clean some threads so new people, and even old, can understand what the latest devs are ;)

Attached new file. Just install. All should be just fine!

Will upload it to TreoCentral asap as well.

mccune: this doesnt install the original dialpad from the treopro? this seems like the original WM dialpad correct?

EDIT: nevermind, i figured it out. need to install realvga first. i thought it was a 1 time cab with the program already included.
