My First thanks to Maglite and Football. Maglite was the first to release a custom rom for the x50v, he was the one with Football to explain me about xip & xipport, when I registered to 4pda.ru. These roms were built using a derived kitchen from Football's kitchen.

These roms share the same kernel than the x51v's one and are directly derived from them. They are stricly for x50v, the one from the x51v are located here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439586).

You can only flash your x50v with these roms, if your device is running WM5 aku 2.3.1 or higher. If you attempt to flash over a WM2003 bootloader, you will brick your device.

This rom is indeed a full professional rom, with this rom your x50v is not a PDA anymore, it will just become a real VOIP Pdaphone.

What is the difference between a x50v regular rom with a VOIP software (like Sjphone) and this WM6.1 VOIP rom?

Here are the main benifits once your axim is properly configured:

- You only need to turn on your wifi to place or receive VOIP call (You don't need to start any software because the VOIP is native on the OS)
- You can call directly from your contact
- You can import call log and dialed number from any other phone using PimBackup
- There are three way to check your PDAphone is connected to the VOIP network
1/ You can see the two network call bar from the top bar
2/ You can use the VOIP today plugin
3/ You can see your VOIP network from the phone application itself.

Also this incredible rom is available in 5 different localized version: WWE/WWE/GER/ITA/ESN/FRA

Status of these 5 roms:

Rom A09 PRO_VOIP (private "pure" edition):

WM6.1 Professional - CE OS 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3) with "4.8 MB Pagepool"

And includes the following

-- Native VOIP support
-- Setup VOIP from Schap to configure your VOIP setup.
-- SDHC support
-- Outlook Enhancementsupport
-- WPA-TSK vagus fix.
-- NetCF 3.5
-- SQLCE 3.5 (Localized)
-- wireless manager, is there but tricky to use.
-- Softkey Applet (a powerfull applet that allows you to change your softkey without having to soft reset)
-- TCPMP 0.72 (Localized) with two different subtitle support (thanks will5 for the information about the new subtitle pluggin) and YouTube support (Subtitle support for SMI in video "Intel 2700G" mode and not in "Intel 2700G Decoder" mode)
It also includes avc, aac & ac3 plugin. TCPMP is an alternative to WM Player. File associations is availble in TCPMP settings
-- PIE 6.1 and YouTube plugin, scrolling can be done using directional button, PIE Ramdisk is available in Scripts & Tricks section (it uses ram for PIE cache to improve performance). About the YouTube Plugin, it works natively. If you surf on YouTube with PIE, when you click on a video a context menu will be displayed (see screenshot above). Then you will be able to save the video or to view it online through TCPMP.
-- DF's PIM Backup 2.8 (a replacement for Data Backup)
-- ModemIS, a string initialization modem utility.
-- 7-zip, if you need to extract 7z compressed files.
-- aximsite wireless switcher
-- screen capture, a simple screen capture utility (Not in German rom)
-- Notepad, a very usefull text editor.
-- GSFinder+, a replacement for File Explorer, this version has an High Resolution feature. I find this software more interesting than Resco Explorer because of this feature and also because it's faster.
-- ozVGA and WM6.1 trueVGA Localized dlls, to switch in TrueVGA mode (The German rom contains only the trueVGA dlls and not the trueVGA applet)
-- MortScrip 4.1
-- NoPluginsToday, a switcher to quickly de-activate all your plugin and re-activate them all. Plugin de-activation will boost your device.
-- MagicButton, so all application will close and release memory instead of being minimized (a replacement for switcher bar) (Not in German rom)
-- Ramdisk see "Menneisyys" article (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=the_wm5_ramdisk_compatible_with_almost_e&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1). These rom will automount a 3 Mo ramdisk with filesys.exe TempPath pointing to the ramdisk. Unmounting the ramdisk will autopoint to permanent storage, while mounting any ramdisk will automatically point the TempPath the the ramdisk.
-- Hibernate, a powerfull tool to claim unused memory.
-- UC ROM capability
The package contains the following UC components with the appropriate SDConfig.txt:
----- PocketRAR 3.80 (Localized)
----- DF's Task Manager / Registry Editor 3.1, a very good task manager embedding a usefull registry editor (with this software and GSFinder+, you don't need Resco File explorer anymore).
---- x51v Mix
---- Windows Live 10.6.39.1300
---- MagicButton (only in German package)
---- screen capture (only in German package)

with following registry tricks:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ObjectStore\RegistryType =0 , (file based registry)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\"4-Way Nav"=0

Compaction thread :
One of the best way to fight against compaction thread is to reassign all temp files to ramdisk. By default, this 4.8 pagepool rom will autoload a 3 Mo ram disk and ensure more than 30 Mo of free memory to run the programs. You can easily unmount or change the capacity of the ramdisk using the preconfigured features located in program files/ramdisks. Like mentioned before it will automatically point filesys.exe TempPath to the ramdisk. I also strongly suggest to use Pie_Ramdisk (in tips&tricks) instead of Pie.

Also if you want to check compaction thread behaviour with different pagepool values, you can use Paveld PPeditor. (Thanks Paveld & wllw from 4pda)
Instruction to use Paveld PPeditor (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2056721&postcount=76)

Kitchen from Football is available here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391392).

Update: A09 VOIP Gold release
It's more like a dking special, those rom have :
--a patched gwes.exe to avoid the display problem in menus (thanks to dking that was kind enough to explain me his tutorial (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=84659) published in russian in 4pda.)
--dking patched drivers for Axim's screen backlight on minimum brightness
(it should also fix the french menu displayed when trying to access YouTube from PIE)

Update 2: A09 VOIP Gold with patch filesys.exe release
It's the very same A09 VOIP Gold release, with a custom shsmith patch filesys.exe v6.3 (http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/106009-x50v-wm5-filesys-exe-uses-95-cpu.html). I've use cook method highlighted by Menneisyys (http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/234502-dell-axim-x50-v-hx4700-hx2xxx-users-attention-wm5-automatic-filesys-exe-patcher.html) to generate those patch filesys.exe.
The patch is launched at startup and can be invoked also from Scripts & Tricks section.

Last Update: A09 523F release

WM6.1 VOIP Pro (21055) WWE only (http://rapidshare.com/files/314977223/WM50_K_A09_523F_X50v_WM65_WWE_pro.nb0.zip)

This rom is build over the last WM6.1 build (dated september 2009) and have finger scrolling ability.

features:
--pure WM6.1 rom with only added screen capture utility, Mortscript, SDHC support, WPA-TSK vagus fix, Softkey Applet, aximsite wireless switcher.
--dking 2700G driver
--patched Wireless Manager
--The Pro rom has native VOIP all other WM6.1 bonus (except IE6 Mobile that is removed) could be installed by UC, but you have to get it from the x51v rom (Including My Phone and SkyMarket, and other bonus)

UC will install Office Mobile, and will kick with filesys.exe after reset, You'll have to wait 5 minutes to start benefit the full speed rom (when filesys goes down to 0% of cpu).

Tip for downloading from rapidshare: use jdownloader (http://jdownloader.org/).

If you like these rom and you wish to donate (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=makuu%40live%2efr&no_shipping=0&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=EUR&lc=FR&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF&charset=UTF%2d8).

Some tricks related to VOIP part:

You can use up to two VOIP configuration. Using setup VOIP from Schap, you can create your 1st VOIP configuration.
Then go to \Windows\system\VOIP and duplicate the Prov1SIPSettings file to Prov1BackupSIPSettings. Re-use setup voip to configure your second VOIP configuration.

If you don't use headset, and you use the speaker and mike from the x50v (by using it up side down), reduce the speaker sound to avoid echoing.

Perhaps, you have too many files located in the SD root folder, try to only have those from the package.

Does WPA natively work?

It should.

just now i'm flashing my x50v to the german version. I was using the 6.1 from LennySh A09 before, but WLAN was not working perfectly, as it did in WM5 and of course, it was english. I'm interested, how this rom works. gonna write about it then...

Well, played around with it and: i love you for making this rom completely german. (as from first post, i understood that only the home-screen should be german), anyway it's great! And reacts much better than the A09 WM6.1 from LennySh before. A really great Rom. (Is good that it's german, as i'm gonna sell this device, when i get my MDA Pro, which may arrive some time these days, And i think, it's going to sell more, if there's a german WM6.1 on it. Thanks for this rom!!

run fast but wifi works only whit wep ,wpa disconnect every 5 five second

I have no problem with WPA TKIP. Keep connect and it is supported natively.
No on / off / on trick is needed.

Also, this roms seems lessen the filesys compaction problem, even the CPU loading at 624Mhz, it is still responsive.

You might have bricked your axim if it was running WM2003 prior flashing with a M6.1 rom. There are stickies on aximsite that should help you recover in this case.

But remember that there is always a risk to flash your device it can always be bricked.

haven't noticed so far yet. (but don't care anymore, as i'm going to sell my X50v now, because i now have my HTC Universal.

btw @ EDITman
VOIP depends mostly on your ISP / internet provider. If you have DSL and a telephone flatrate, you might be able to use your home connection, as the telephone-connection goes over internet. (that's VOIP). I don't know, if you can use VOIP anywhere else but home.

Found a small issue here. I registered sipphone.com for a SIP account, and connected successfully with this great rom. However, while disconnecting with wifi, I got "No Service" warning and "No phone attached" error. I thought it may be the SIP provider issue but it occurs many times. Later I found that the SIP service can be resumed by just dialing any number and after a warning, the SIP network resumed. Hope I can help anyone with the same issue, and if anyone know how the config can elimiate this step please post here.

Freephonie is provided by Free ( an internet provider in France ). You can only use it if you have an account with them. The account provides High Speed DSL, Internet TV, landline Phone and VOIP. I can use VOIP abroad and can call free from the US to France. But in your case if you don't have an account with this french Internet Provider you cannot use it. You have to look for a VOIP provider in North America.

There is no VOIP software. VOIP is part of the OS. If you want more ram you unload the ramdisk but filesys.exe temp path will be relocated to internal storage. You can also reduce pagepool.

Why do you want to have more than 30 Mo at boot?

If you unload the 3 Mo ramdisk, you'll get 33 Mo.

But you can get 2 more if you boot in safemode.

Dear makuu, at first many thanks for this great work. Even though I do not
flashed my AX untill now, the screenshots are looking very very great, and I'm
really considering to flash it from my WM6 to Your ROM. But what do You consider as GOLD RELEASE ? Would it be the Killer-Application for our beloved
AX-Devices ??

@To all other posters in this thread
I've read Your posts really carefully(have to do this as I'm no nativespeaker:) ),
and I'm seeing that some users have problems using wifi with WPA, and on some
devices WPA-SPK is working fine. My question is, what are the differences on
these systems, which allow WPA-encryption without any problems(installed software, storage cards,...). I know that this question is quite trivial, but I'm
not that technician, many other users in this forum are. But I think this question is interesting for all AX-users

But nevertheless, many thanks for this great OS. It shows that the AX is still
alive, and has still his contributors.

Awesome Work. I plan to try this rom later this week. I don't have much use for the VOIP part of this rom (already have a PPC6800 with Nimbuzz) but I do use it a lot still for games, internet, and videos/music.

As for the WPA issue... I am wondering if the hardware changed at all between users who can use it and those who can't. If you users can, check under your battery and post up what AO# hardware version your device is. My first one was an A01 and my current one after a replacement due to a memory error (which I later found out could be fixed from flashing to WM5 a long time ago) is now A09. I wonder if there is any pattern between the users who cannot use WPA vs thouse who can.

My first one was an A01 and my current one after a replacement due to a memory error (which I later found out could be fixed from flashing to WM5 a long time ago) is now A09. I wonder if there is any pattern between the users who cannot use WPA vs thouse who can.

hi guys,

first of all THANKS makuu and all the other guys who've been working on those roms, which helped us to get the most out of our devices.

for all those who are not sure about installing this rom
i confirm that this one is

the fastest, most stable and functional rom i ever used,
neither wpa (tkip) nor (wpa1 + wpa2) works for me,
iGo 8 works fine, after stopping some unuseful services.

cheers L

Could you detail a little more how you manage to have igo 8 working (which services did you stopped?)

Just got it loaded on my mothed x50v to give it a new life. I found that I can connect via WPA/TKIP but phone does lock up after a while when connected to wifi and need to be soft resetted.

Also, if I attempt to hard reset the phone with Power+Reset and select restore to factory setting, the phone would reboot and stop at 80% of process bar. Have to reflash with SD Image Update to reset it. Is this a known issues?

I loaded the WWE version. I notice the youtube plugin still have the menu in German(?).

Otherwise, it is quite a snappy compare to WM5 stock Dell and looks very promising. Keep up the good work!

Hard Reset should work fine but you have to be patient a wait few seconds to have the progress bar proceed to 100%.

I know there are some french menus in WWE but I have asked for screenshots to view the problem and I have none until know. However I think it's solved in the Gold version (that I haven't released yet).

put all the files you downloaded unzipped onto a FAT32 format SD card , then hold down power rest and the wireless button the boot loader should then load, if not try again.

Make sure you have at least WM5 installed...

You'd better buy the digitizer (http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Tool-for-Dell-Axim-X50v-X51v_W0QQitemZ300278116021QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_A ccessories?hash=item300278116021&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50) it only cost 8$ (6€).

I need to install the Widcomm BT stack since I need BT PAN user functionality. It works fine under this rom but in Wireless Manager the BT is now always reported as 'Off' and it can no longer control the BT on/off function. Persumably, this is reporting the status on the MS BT stack.

Is there anyway to make it work with the Widcomm stack or remove it from Wireless Manager all together?

Also, in the top bar, is there any way to disable the Antenna icon if I'm not planning to use any VOIP phone?

Thanks!

P.S.> I also have WPA-PSK TKIP work with my DLink DI-524. I did happens once to me that the wireless network disconnected and if I try to reconnect only the WEP encryption shows up and I cannot reconnect to my network. However, I soft reset and the connection returns. Odyssey Access Client (1.55) would not work for WPA.

I can confirm this as well. I has been a problem in all the roms. I know with maglites and lenny's as well. I had a dlink dir-615 which by now i have given away since it didn't work. But my dlink dir-625 rev a1 does work. It maybe that it doesn't like broadcom drivers when using tkip on these routers. If people could get the chipset's with there routers it may all add up pretty quickly.

After installing iG0 8 i received memory errors while starting the application.
So i searched for some advice and all i remember is that:

i deactivated every option at the x50v's "Today" feature.
and run "hibernate" here and then.

well, i am sorry that i haven't documented each step at that time, but i didn't estimated that this would solve the problem for me.

I've just installed this rom and it's not working as good as it work for the rest of you. It looks great, works very fast, but unfortunately WLAN doesn't respond.

I tried setting the network to WEP and unencrypted - both cases the network is "avaible" but connecting is unsuccessfull :(

Thanks for good ROM!
But unfortunately due to WPA-TKIP Bug I can not use this version. I have also cyclical / periodical reconnect of my WPA connection. The PDA is autorised correctly ond becomes IP through DHCP, but after 3-5 seconds connection is brocken.

I tested it with different ROMs (also from other forums), but the problem was the same.

I assume, the problem is a timeout, which is produced by a lot of routers (I have for example a Fritz!Box 7170), therefore not all users have this reconnection problem with WPA.

With WM2003 I could also not connect to a WPA router, but I tested yesterday and today two ROMs with WM5 (one is official DELL ROM) and WPA worked with both WM ROMs!!! Ok, I had initally these known Problems with on-off-on of WLAN-Switcher and must reboots, but thereafter I had a stabil WPA connection with my router!

Both WM5 ROMs had pre-installed Odissey. I did not use nor activated Odissey, but could be the removal of Odissey from actual ROMs the problem for our cyclic reconnections? Is it possible to instal Odissey additionaly?

Best regards

My message from yesterday was not fully correct. I downgraded yesterday to WM5 A02 (original DELL) and the known problem with cyclical reconnection was also with this Version. I downgraded to WM5 A01 and it works perfektly!

Also the problem is not the "self cooked" ROMs but the WM5 A02, which is AFAIK the basis for all modified ROMs with WM5 and WM6. And the solution could be the using of WIFI driver (or tools) from WM5 A01 instead from A02.

Question to "cooks" here: Is it possible to cook such a ROM for testing purpose?

The WM5 A02 has a Odysey and I probed to test it with Odysey, but it did not worked. I read also in other forums/threads, that the removal of Odysey is not the cause for this problem.

Best regards.

And if you change the channel back to 6, it will still work. I am sure :) The channel can not be the cause for this problem.

Different kinds of router: yes. I know, that Linksys Router should not have problems with X50V+WPA, but the most other routers. I am sure, this can be only a timing problem. But unfortunately we can not change such WLAN parameters.

I have currently a WM5 version with working WPA. But this version is very very unstable. If PDA is "sleeped" in cradle, I must reset it. Without cradle PDA "eat" too much energy and is fully discharged after a relatively short time (< 1 day).

Router might be the cause. I'm using Netgear WGT624.

Not being an expert on 802.11 protocols, I wonder why this is only a problem on the x50v with WM6/WM6.1 (I never tried WM5 or WM2003 with WPA connection). All my other devices connect fine, include two laptops, wii console, iPod Touch, and a WM6 phone with Wifi support.

Somehow the x50v (software?) is less tolerant.

I just thought I would chime in on this topic...

From what everyone is saying, along with my own experiences with this ROM, I think the solution is using another router... (please don't flame me...just offering my $0.02)

I am using a Cisco Aironet 1120G with WPA-TKIP, changed channels numerous times, and had no problems whatsoever...never a dropped signal, never had to reset the Axim, basically it is great...

This is by far the best ROM, homebrew or OEM, that I have ever seen or used...

Anyway, I hope this helps...BTW, I have been seeing these Cisco access points on eBay for $50 or less...they work great, have a nice web interface (if you don't like CLI), and you would get the awesome bragging rights of saying you use Cisco equipment at home... (yeah, Linksys might have the little Cisco "bridge" logo on it, but it is NOT Cisco equipment...anyone that has used Cisco equipment will back me up on this...once you go Cisco, you'll never go back! :) )

Hi Makuu,

First off, thanks a TON for getting this ROM out. Like many others on this forum, it's completely revived my X50v from the depths of 2003SE.

I have one question regarding PIE:

If I navigate to a page that has many images, and I click on one that is an image only, it automatically directs me to save the image file. In other words, Thumbnails are fine on a webpage. It's when I click on them to the linked page that it forces me to Save the image file.

It seems in previous versions of PIE, the images would simply load in a webpage to be viewed. Is this a WM6.1 vs 2003SE difference? I tried changing some File Associations for .JPG from Viewer to IE, for example, and it seemed to confuse my PPC.

I'm not sure if these clues help but I'm running:
- PocketPlus 3.1.2 with multiple PIE windows open
- Resco Explorer 2003 v5.15
- Tweaks2k2 3.31.0
- Wisbar Advance 2.9.0.2

One other clue: When I was using the LennySh WM6.0, in PIE, there were many instances where a page containing a single image wouldn't load altogether. I did some googling and found that this may have been a MS issue in WM6.0.

Have you seen anything like this? It should be rather reproducible for any webpage containing images.

Anyway, I searched around and didn't see any specific info about this, so I figured I'd go directly to the source!

Once again, thanks for all your effort!

Update :
All problems has been solved !
Got a new engineering build ( 6.5.4.13 ) of Sprite Backup and the SMS lock problem was solved !
I found out that an old Paragon version of Hebrew for WM6 works just fine and the only problem that I had ( encoding problem under IE ) was solved after I
Copied cour.ttf file to windows directory and to font directory.

Lior

Best Rom I ever tried on my X50V ! Thanks Makuu.
( I'm using the Update 2: A09 VOIP Gold with patch filesys.exe release )

2 problems though .. and 1 Questions ..

1. It seems I can't backup my device with Sprite Backup (V 6.5.4). solved ! see the start of this post
The program loads perfectly but when I kick the "backup" button the program soft reset the device (this is a normal operation) and when the device starts I'm getting a message that "sprite backup has encountered an unexpected error". This is consistent with all types of back up.
When I used the MagLite Rom, The same version of Sprite Backup run perfectly. (But this was an WM6 rom.. )

EDIT :
After some investigation, I got to the conclusion that the problem with the Sprite Backup is a SIM related.
The Backup log says :
"Checking Sim PinLock failed: An error occurred accessing the SIM Manager API"
Well I guess that make sense since the X50V doesn't have a SIM card.
I'm a bit confused here though .. What am I missing ?

Update :
Tried Sprite BackUp on LennySH A09 ROM ( WM6.1 ).
and it works just fine so my guess is there is something with the VOIP integrated to the OS that makes Sprite Backup go crazy ..

Q to Sprite Tech Support & Answer :

Lior 9/02/2009 9:07:51 a.m.
I just downloaded the sprite backup and tried a full back up on my device.
Got An "unexpected error occurred"
Checked the log file and it seems to be a SIM lock problem ( I think ).
My device is a simple PDA. it has no SIM card at all.
I attached the log file.

Thanks in advance,

Lior

Hi Lior,

Thank you for your information!
That is a bug. Fix will be included in the next release. I am organizing a new build for you.
Best regards,

Shuang

OK,
This is good news, That's leavse me with the Hebrew problem ..
I will wait a while with this ROM ( right now I'm running LennySH WM6.1 ROM, Sprite BK works fine but it has the same Hebrew Problem ..)

2. When I use the Multilanguage support package
(Polaris HebPack Project) downloaded from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426707
The system fonts won't show. They are exsit I can copy past them into the note pad and see them but it's seems to be something wrong with the fonts.
For example, When typing in Hebrew in messenger I can't see my typing but I can send it and it is shown on the "other side".
On Owner Information, The info box are "empty" but the data exist. I can verify this by copy + past the date into note pad.
When I disable the Multilanguage support, the fonts are shown perfectly.
Same here, when I run this Multilanguage support on MagLite Rom I had no problem at all.

Update :
A working solution tested on LennySH ROM which suffer from the same
Hebrew problem, posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3310163&postcount=474)
Since both ROM's (LennySH and Makuu ) had the same problem, I believe this fix will act the same here. I will test it on Makuu's ROM as soon as the Sprite Backup fix will be ready.

solved ! see the start of this post

Q1
Filesys patch seems to be running after every soft reset. Is that normal ?

Got it figured by my self ..

I flashed my X50v to A02 RTM, but beforehand, tried various ROM-s Including the WM6.1 VOIP version, and Lennish aswell, and the issue remained with all above mentioned. I have a problem with changing batteries. I hawe two standard batteries from DELL. (By the way, I bought my PDA on online auction just recently...) I charged them both, and when the first one went dry is swapped to the other. The problem is, that the device asked If I'd like a hard reset. I hit no... Boots up, but the battery status hasn't changed. Nothing gets it right. Soft reset does not help. The battery status is the same after replacing it wit a fully charged one. Not even putting it back on the cradle solves the case, it starts charging like if it was completely dry.

flauchhaus, softreset the device, then it should be fine. I got this error after first hardreset, then it was OK. It helped me.

I am doing something wrong.
After upgrading to WM5 02 ROM I loaded all the files that I downloaded and extracted from rapidshare on a FAT32 formatted SD. After pushing wireless+on/off+reset at the same time I get the screen saying:
To restore factory setting, press (contact list button). To cancel this operation press (email button). I tried both options and land back at WM5.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help.

Hi everybody,

thanks for this ROM, it ist the best Work for a ROM I ever see. Last Night I found the Rom. After a terrible usage with WM5 I was happy for the wm6-Rom. But this was only in English. After that I found the LEnnysh-Rom with WM6.1. THis Rom was a little bit faster, and with the tool ultraVGA it was possible to use the Rom in German with some restrictions like the Contacts and NEtwork.

Yesterday I flashed this ROM ... and it is so fast ... now it makes fun to use the x50v!!! Only one thing, the network, wont work. I use a AVM-Fritzbox-Router (7270) with wpa-psk encryption. I tryed to use a fix channel and only b+g-Standard, but the axim tries to connect but can not establish a connection.

Has anybody a solution for me?

THanks a lot.

Makuu, u made a great Rom, but you put way way waaaayyyyyyyyy too much junk in there, without letting users to pick what they want. Is TCPMP, notepad, or even real VGA mode necessarily? cause some users will prefer Coreplayer for example. So can you make the same but clean Professional Rom? ( which I think takes less time anyway)
Or, can you at least tell me what program to use to delete those useless apps from Rom? As programs in Rom cannot be deleted within device.
Unless, makuu, u are working on some newer RoM?

The fact that this is the only WM 6.1 Professional Rom for x50v, with built in Voip, is what I think makes it special, not anything else in it. as everything else can be installed manualy including Ramdisk, which I found quite annoying to use.

Well you don't have to use all extras in the rom. It's very easy to remove those that you don't want. You just delete the shortcut from /Windows/Stat Menu/Programs, then you won't see those apps anymore. I every rom there's a bunch of files you'll never use the size of the extra apps in this rom doesn't exceed the average size of unused files in any other rom.
I have included TrueVGA because it's very difficult and almost impossible for most of the people to have it perfectly working for their device.
For Ramdisk it's impossible to have it installed and behave like the one of this rom, because the kernel of the rom itself has been modified to use ramdisk.
As for Notepad, I have included it in the rom because it's not easy to get it and it can save you if you need to edit txt files. Some other user might prefer TCPMP than coerplayer because of at least 3 reasons:
1/ It's Free
2/ It can use network shared files.
3/ It handles subtitles.
These 3 you can't do with the coreplayer.
Anyway if you don't need TCPMP and Notepad, just delete the 2 shortcuts. You can install coreplayer in the rom, it will work without any issues.

Thanks, makuu. Never thought of it that way. The thing is, even through I rarely use my x50v lately, and even with all of those ramdisks installed, everytime I turn on my device, I experience significant slowdowns, especially when using opera mobile 9.5. So, my device runs most often slow with this ROM, even when I don't have much of anything installed on it. I thought that it was due to so many apps already in the Rom.
Anyways, are u planning on making WM6.5 ROM, or are u done with the x50v for good???

Also, I'm wondering, what exactly do u use (PC programs, etc) to make ROMs. (When googled for it a while back, never found anything) Do u need to have some programing knowledge? How long does it really take to make a ROM?

Many questions, but I'm curious.....:D:D:D

It's difficult to avoid filesys with the x50v. But If you are using the ramdisk, you need to tune your opera to use ramdisk instead of permanent storage. If your x50v is properly configured it can run even faster than a x51v. However it takes time and it's hard to properly configured the x50v to get the best performance out of it. The performance are not in any way impacted by the amount of extra apps in the rom. If you don't use the apps they are just static files like any other. filesys is your enemy there.
I have not seen any viable WM6.5 vga rom released until now. I don't plan to release any experimental rom, the x51v is my main every day device. It's the best pda I've ever own and I will work on an upgrade only if I don't loose any functionality in the process.
So if I cook a new rom for the x51v, there is a good chance that I'll port it for the x50v.

You don't need programming skils to cook a rom, but it takes much time. I have used football kitchen as a reference. All the necessary tools you can find it @ xda.

Hi guys,

First of all thanks makuu for the ROM. I have flashed my x50v to WM6.1 from original Windows Mobile 2003 SE early in January and here's my experience.

The device become much nicer, ROM is pretty fast. I didn't install any programs to main memory, WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared - all are working fine. In the matter of fact I got only a couple of book readers and GPS software on SD card other than built-in software. I tested ROM using x50v as a GPS - for 4 hours driving it worked flawlessly.

However with the WM6.1 I got a strange glitch. When I connect PDA to computer (Cradle or USB cable) is syncronizes and charging just fine. When I turn of PDA (still connected) it would come back on in about 10 min.
I turn it off again. After that happens for few times, PDA finaly stays turned off. But when I try to turn it on later it won't. The only way to turn if back on it press Power+reset and mail key. I wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this, is it software or hardware glitch?

The other thing if PDA stays turned off overnight (presumably locked in off state) after I remove it from cradle in the morning it start getting very hot. Of course it doesn't turns on unless I hit Power+reset and after that it works just fine (no overheating, battery drains or slow downs).

I tried "fake exchange server" trick with Activesync, and I out of ideas now.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've been with WM2003 SE since I bought X50V and now, I'm missing a thing: Where the bluetooth manager are?

In the WM2003 SE its easy to explore anothers bluetooth devices and conects to a Bluetooth cell as well...In this rom I'm not able to this.

Can I install the old bluetooth manage some way?

A friend of mine just comment something about it.

Sorry for some english mistakes...I'm brazilian.

This has been an issue I believe ever since the day the X50V came out. ActiveSync with the axim loves to wake it up at weird instances and whatnot causing it to lock up while its "off" at random times kinda like you mention. The fix for me since I do not sync the device a lot since its no my primary one is to disable usb connections in active sync (in XP) or Sync Center (in Vista) untill you need to sync your device. Then instead of shutting off the device I just let mine Dim its backlight after 15 minutes of inactivity. I use it quite regularly as a video/movie player while I work on my comps and the data connection still works even though USB connection is disabled in sync center so I can still use files shared off my comp.

Still love my X50V to this day. Few devices have surpased what It can do yet.

I configured my SIP account following advice found in this thread. Everything works great (thank you, all) as long as I stick to outgoing calls. With incoming calls, however, I get the accept/reject window; simultaneously the party who initiated the conversation gets a 'busy' tone. When I accept the call, nothing happens on my side (meaning no conversation), and the other side keeps getting the 'busy' tone.

(I'm using the ROM discussed in this thread, of course).

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

nobodys answer?

I think the answer to your question if translated correctly is that this ROM does not automatically make it so the X50v can make phone calls. The X50v is not a phone and software will not make it a phone. What this VOIP ROM does is allow you to use Voice Over Internet Provider. You will require an ISP Internet Service Provider that allows VOIP connections to be able to use the X50v with VOIP to emulate a phone. Does that help? ;)

Ok for starters THANK YOU to makuu!

My X50V is working great again - after going through the long and arduous process of upgrading from the original WM2003 to this release ;)

WPA-PSK works great for me. I have a WRT54g router on CH11 with mixed mode - no problems. Hardware rev a01.

However I installed Garmin on it and it takes FOREVER to calculate a route - about 70 seconds to calculate a 5mi route. Running the same software on my cellphone (TP2) it takes about 5 seconds to calculate the same route (also running WM6.1).

I assume this is a filesys problem? I'm running the A09 gold with filesys patch - the patch is running.

Thanks for any help! I read this and several other threads and didn't find an answer.

This may be a shot in the dark but it seems unlikely that a firmware could cause increased battery drain. Since these are old devices could it just be that your battery is old and can't hold a charge like it used to so when the drain is high the battery depletes quickly?

Is it correct that extendir was not used in this as in the x51 version? If so, is it possible to use extendir for the x50 or is there some limiting factor?

Hi Folks
I upgraded by X50v ROMS to the WM6 ROM ( A09 VOIP Gold ).This came with a rudimentary bluetooth driver. I upgraded to the Widcom Bluetooth driver stack for X50v and things worked just fine, when I FIRST PAIRED my Rocketfish bluetooth headset to the X50v. I could get impeccable sound quality .
Then ALL of a sudden , the Paired Bluetooth connection refused to connect to the BT Headset .
I gave the message . "Unable to connect to the bluetooth device ..please check if its switched oh..blah ..blah " .
Of course the BT Headset was on and my PC can connect to it if I switch my PC's BT Card on.
I removed the pair. Put the HT Headset in Paring mode..tried to repair ...NO AVAIL ..same problem.
I restored default settings ( hard reset ) and re-installed the BT Widcom driver- NO AVAIL.
AFTER ALL whats wrong here . Any idea ? anyone with the same problem ?
any soln ?
If I try to use the default BT ( Non Widcom ) driver its asking to add a port.
But after that I dont know how to connect ....
Please help..No Spider for this Bruce ...!!!

I would like to install BC BT stack as well and wonder if other people have problems as described above. Any info will be appreciated.

Was that BC stack developed further somehow, from the point stated on aximsite?

Hi
Thanks for reply
I downloaded the one that said latest from this link

http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/122247-widcomm-axim-x50v-x51v-state-development.html
plus applied all those patches just to make sure it works.

I just dunno where the bug is ...
My BT Headset will connect to my PC nicely and my X50V will also connect to my PC.
A connects to B
B connects to C
but A does not connect to C
Is it that the BT HS thinks that it is paired ? and the X50V does not .
Because even in non paring mode with the BT HS on and the X50V having no paired connection, the X50V will ask me for the BT-HS's password. I enter the standard password 0000
and it refuses the connect
Any Idea ?
Also can you PL tell me how to connect my BT HS using the older driver version. For my laptop I can add a com port there but for my BT HS , there is no such provision. Is it poss to get the BT HS profile using the older version. Please advise
Thanks
Sam

After A LOT of test i've found the best version of non-Wm2003se is the last update of wm6.1 (by makuu)

First, generally, there are importants things to do for all the ROM.
Install NOTHING or almost (for me opera is the exception and windows live too) on the main memory. Ive even installed spb weather on the storage card
Move everything that you can on the storage card (mails, temp, cache, cookie).
Put nothing on the main memory...

That is my only solution to keep the OS fast (the file compaction occurs one time a day (5 mins, its pretty good))

I've tried everything :

LennySH a09 wm6.1 : Too old (some graphicals bugs), IRDa do not work but the os is prety fast
WM5 dell version a02 : In my opinion, by installing a permanent storage OS on the x50v, i prefer install a wm6 os for the compatibility
WM5 maglite version a03 : Same as above
Wm6 maglite edition : Pretty old, there is not a lot of free ram, and the os is kind of slow
Wm6.5 both 5CFA and 5574 version (makuu) : I<ve found that the stylus edition was a bit faster but ive had a lot of file compaction problems in both roms. This os is too new for me, there is some compatibility problems with some softwares

For me, the best permanent storage roms for the x50v is WM6.1 pro A09 by makuu (the last update). The os is fast, stable, pretty compatible with everything and there is a lot of free ram. The addition of finger scrolling is pretty handy !

The only thing to keep in mind is to never write on the main storage !

That is what ive found after all the Roms ive tried

THX Makuu, really, your roms is pretty handy in my studies (electric engenering)

P.S. : Sorry for the mistakes, Im french...

Hi Makuu,

Installed the latest ROM and it's great. I had given up on the x50V and replaced it with an iPaq 211. It's a good PDA but it's not a Axim. Maglite's and LennySh's editions were good but my Axim just didn't function adequately enough for me to use it. I came across this thread and decided to try your ROM. What can I say, it's great. My Axim has a new life and I'm sorry I bought the HP. Hopefully my donation to your PayPal account reimburses you for some of your excellent work. Thanks.

hello all, I am not new to the XDA-HTC-WinMo scene, however, I have a small problem with my x50v running this rom, and all non 2003se roms, I know the device is not made to handle the newer roms, but I cannot get a good connection on wifi (not secured), even standing right next to the router, it searches, connects, drops, almost that fast, I cant even get opera open in time. any help would be nice, I am going to try wifimonster now have the cab left from my fuze, but any other advice is appreciated.

*edit, otherwise, I would like to return to 2003se, as it is the basis for the design of the device, however, I am unable to find an SDHC cab for the 2003se platform, help here would also be appreciated.

** tried wifimonster, and oddessy, neither with any luck, I am at a loss, and unsure what to do next.

I just upgraded and flashed the A09 523F release onto my X50v from Maglite's WM6 Classic A01 (10.08.07). This is a very cool OS but I'm a bit confused. There are a number of programs that aren't there as listed and shown on the 1st page such as ram disk, Windows Live, messenger, etc. Did I miss doing something? Where can I get those programs? Did I flash the wrong program?

I also noticed that the Wifi connects only about 5% of the time to WPA-PSK. It seems to almost connect and then starts over again.

I am also getting a bit burnt out trying to upgrade to a faster and stable system. If worse comes to worse, can someone direct me to returning to the original WM 2003SE A05?

First of all, I just upgraded to the ROM in WM50_K_A09_523F_X50v_WM65_WWE_pro.nb0.zip (took me the whole day to upgrade from WM2003SE in finding an XP m/c and upgrading step by step) and it seems to run very smooth, thanks to makuu.

Now, I am looking to restore the PIM data and can't find the application anywhere. How did people restore their data?

Update: Wifi doesn't work for several combinations that I tried, including WPA-PSK/TKIP, and it seems I am not alone. So much for my excitement :(

I am a newbie to the custom ROM scene and recently upgraded from the original WM2003SE. It was a lot of pain due to lack of an XP m/c, but it all seems worth it now. I also tried the WM6.5 ROM as well as the custom WM5 ROM and like this one better. Thanks to makuu for making it available.

I do have one issue with which I need help. I am trying to run OnCourse Navigator 8 on this but it doesn't seem to have enough memory as I get the below error messages:

Out of memory
Requested: 19200
Cache: 1628940

I pretty much have the stock WM6.1 setup and have no user data yet on this. I even uninstalled the office. My main intention right now is to be able to run GPS software on this.

Also wondering what backup/restore software is recommended. I am used to the one that came with WM2003SE, but it is missing from this ROM. I appreciate any help.
