Hi guys!
i´ve just donwloaded the new opera 9.5 beta for my treo pro and at the beggining worked fine, but now, when i close the app, and try to re-open it later, it freezes and do not open at all. it only appears the name of the last webpage i tried to open. so i have to do a soft reset and will work again, but soon or later, it happens once more
what do u think about it?

hi jumanjii,
I've had the same experience with the treo pro and opera mobile 9.5 beta. Basically if you use the built in task manager to kill Opera, it causes problems. There must be part of Opera that is not fully shutdown.
Until they resolve this, use the menu in the bottom right and select exit. This will shut opera down properly.
Im not certain but i think this is related to a bug with the opera widgets. Im not sure why but when ive had this problem sometimes the opera widgets folder/app is still running.
Id say get used to using the exit command in the menu, switch back to 8.6 or wait for the final version of Opera.

why would skyfire NOT work in any country except us and canada. its only a browser and thats it. It depends on weather u have a good signal or bad signal that mostly dictates how fast the internet.

Skyfire's website says that the browser is only supported in US and Canada (http://www.skyfire.com/register). Apparently you can put in random numbers for the phone number during the registration process and get the cab. So i stand corrected.
BUT, they still dont official support its use outside the US. I think the reason is that skyfire uses its own servers (probably located in the US) to render the page and then sends it as a compressed image; Being outside the us means your introducing a 200ms delay (for us aussies atleast) to every action.
*completely non technical comment: does anyone else find the skyfire ceo product demos (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=jSdT_PgFXds&feature=related) to be a bit weird and off putting; They seem way to sure of themselves and dismisive of other technologies they are borrowing from; it reminds me of the attitude of people during the dotcom boom. i dunno...

Thanks for enlightning me about that I had no Idea guess I take somethings for granted here. To me though a browser is still a browser however now that u said the skyfire servers are most likely in the US it does make sense.

I live in Chile, in south america, and SKYFIRE work with any problems... great. but i use this only for web page with flash content, like youtube or others 'tubes' ... but for the rest, Opera is the better choice. IMHO.

I use Opera 9.5 with Tf3D and haven't had any issues at all with it freezing or locking up or anything along those lines at all. Not sure if it is a function of the TF3D or the build I am using. The issue may be the build...

The browser seems not to display german sites.
If You select one like www.bahn.de he decides to use the english version and he cannot display the german site from amazon and other german sites so I assume that they are rendering the pages on their servers and send the result to the browser.

I've used these browsers: PIE, IE6, Skyfire, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, Picsel and Iris. Here are my rankings:
1. Iris
(compact; fast; standard WebKit rendering; cursor option)
2. Opera Mobile
(fast; good rendering; no cursor option; takes too much screen real estate)
3. IE6
(much improved rendering over PIE; cursor works well; much slower rendering than Iris or Opera)
4. Skyfire
(required for streaming video; Flash; works OK just slower because of server side processing)

I just wrote up my thoughts on 4 browsers on my blog www.interscription.com/2009/04/20/a-mobile-browser-for-every-season/
I'm using UCWeb6 for a lot right now, but I really liked the bolt browser too, it just has some bugginess on our phone. I looked at Iris and Opera too, but they just seem slow compared to some of the other options. It's a shame because both of them give you a fairly full web experience on the phone without screwing with formatting too much.

So i had this problem when i originally installed opera 9.5 beta...
I just got used to not closing out all programs and instead went and quit opera the "proper" way. Few days ago, i reinstalled all the software that was stable and finally got a extremely stable treo pro in my hands.
The opera build I'm using isn't the one from the opera website but rather one repacked from some other phone. (i think HTC) and re cabbed by someone. I believe I downloaded it from this site. This is the file name as I have it. I downloaded it from either here or treo central.
"Opera_v9.5_build_15233_QVGA.CAB"
This one doesn't have that bug which doesn't allow close via task manager.
Hope it helps. P.S. I installed that 1st before any other program if that makes a dif.
This build is also a bit more easy to use. the zoom etc. and the menu system is a bit more helpful although
the Official opera is kick@$$ by all means..
EDIT: I will attach the cab file in a while soon as i get it off my phone and onto my powerbook
attaching didnt work so im going to link to the thread

Just an FYI, the latest Opera Mobile 9.7 beta build runs fantastically on my Sprint Treo Pro. I have it installed to main memory. I'm really liking it.

Blazer is working all right for me. Wished Opera had a PalmOS browser, though.
Here's one I found recently: http://www.mytreo.net/downloads/details-256.html?Xiino
But I haven't tried it, I haven't found the need so far.
