View Full Version : WM 6.1 problem - Slowdown after gameplay

I have an Alltel HTC Touch, and I have a problem with WM 6.1; everytime I close out a game, it slows down my entire phone (and sometimes freezes it if I load an app like Opera Mobile). I've been to PPCGeeks about this, and they helped me a lot, by helping me overclock the processor. My phone doesn't slow down too much anymore, but the slowdown is noticeable enough to still be a problem.
I've flashed to at least six different WM6.1 roms now, and each of them gave me the same issue.
Does anyone have any fixes for this? I would really appreciate the help!!
SIDE NOTE:
Also, my camera is very laggy indoors. It ran perfectly smooth before my transition to 6.1, and it remains laggy when I flash back to the stock WM 6.0. Its bearable right now, but if anyone knows how to get it running smoothly indoors again, I'd really appreciate it!

For starters, this is not an issue with the OS.
What game is it?
How many other apps are running?
How many processes are running?
What ROM are you using?
What is the Page Pool size?

Thanks for the quick reply!
Uh oh... that means the problem lies with my phone. I hope it's a problem that can be fixed...
Do you know if there's anything I can do to fix this then?

LOL!
I'm trying to help you, but I can't until you answer some of the questions.
It's like calling a mechanic and asking what's wrong with your car, it runs a bit odd, but that's all the info given.

Maybe a little more information will help.
My phone first started doing this when I flashed to the new Alltel WM 6.1 rom. I followed the instructions, doing EXACTLY what the tutorial (from HTC's website) told me to. After the flash everything worked fine except for my camera and the games (slowdown issue).
I hope this helps.
WOW, I am SO sorry, I didn't even see those questions! I thought they were a part of your sig and didn't read it :)
1. It slows down with any game I run except for the ones that come with the rom (solitaire and bubble breaker). The games I've tried are:
Acky's XP Breakout
4pinball
Anything on Pocketnester
Snails Reloaded
Turbo Invaders
Shift
Realms
More...
2. No other processes are running. The game is the only one.
3. The roms that I've used are (all of these are for Alltel):
Conflipper's Vouge 6.1 ROM
Crystal v.4 6.1 ROM
Official 6.1 ROM
Dette M2D Diamond Edition v2.3 (Generic rom. This is the one I'm on currently).
4. How do I find the pagepool size again?
Again, sorry about that. I didn't see your questions :P

You should have followed the cookers instructions, if you did not follow their instructions exactly, reflash by their way.
For the camera, it's sometimes laggy, especially with low memory.
Acky's XP Breakout
4pinball
Anything on Pocketnester
Snails Reloaded
Turbo Invaders
Shift
Realms

I haven't even seen half of these games, but PocketNES can be buggy. I suggest using dotfred's Task Manager and viewing CPU usage after playing these games. One of them may have a memory leak causing this.
Also check the other running processes for memoery consumption.
4. How do I find the pagepool size again?
Ususally the cooker posts this, but I see he didn't, the basics on this is it determines your available program memory at all times, especially on boot up, if you really want to know, soft reset, wait a min or two and check the avail program memory. Or use nue's system tool to view additional info.
Also, trying using Oxios Memory, it's free and will free up all avail program memory not being used.
You can try schap's Advanced Config Tool to speed up various parts of your device for improvement.
Alright, don't want to sound frustrated, but I just watched some Hell's Kitchen :D!

You are a genius! Thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna try them now and see what happens, and I'll be back with my results!
And, no, you didn't sound frustrated, even though if you did, I couldn't blame you :D
Thanks again!

Okay, I'm back. Using the task manager you suggested, I found the problem.
The game that I tested (4Pinball) is still running after I closed it. It doesn't show up on the quick menu in the upper right corner of the today screen, but it DOES show up in that task manager.
So I go to close it, and it says it can't be closed properly, and it asks me if I want to kill it. The strange thing is, the choices are ok and cancel instead of yes and no. But anyway, I hit ok.
then another message pops up, but there's no text in it; there's just an X there. After I close that message by hitting ok, I see that 4Pinball remains in the task manager, and it's still there even after I hit refresh.
I installed it to the storage card. Would there be a better chance of it working if I install to device memory?

Sometimes I got the blank message to, don't worry about that, but you have to kill the process for it to work.
Try uninstalling it and running without it.

I keep getting the blank screen... I tried to install it on both the storage card and the device memory, but in either case it doesn't close the game. I'll keep tryin'.

Oh yeah, and I tried that oxios memory program, but it didn't work... it would start loading, but it would never come up.
I remember hearing about a program that freed up ram over at ppcgeeks's forum. I'm gonna see if I can track it down.
