How the hell did you sandpaper your screen?! (out of curiosity). I think you may need a new screen for it, depending on the damges!

Good news is the part you need (it's actually the digitizer) is about $35AUD on ebay... bad news is you'll probably spend an hour changing it but if you take it slowly you should be ok

Thanks for the reply guys, so is the very outer glass the digitizer? I would have thought it was just a face plate guess i'm wrong. To answer some questions Bobby.pike - A long story - Heres a short version at work put my phone in left shirt pocket and small tools i am using in right shirt pocket, left shirt pocket got wet (phew!! that was close I said to myself) transfered phone to right pocket out of habbit continued putting tools and sandpaper in same pocket 12 hours later presto!!!!! sand papered screen  bnm7bnm - screen looks kinda like the top of a finger nail you cant pick out the individual scratches its just not clear any more but it feels horrible sending a sms is kinda like the feeling some people get when they scratch their nails along a blackboard (no im not obsessed with my fingernails both examples just led that way somehow?) :)
