Sounds fun, but shouldn't you actually post some content, instead of just sitting back and letting everyone else do the work for you?
Cool: DotFred's Task Manager. Hard to find? No.
Hard to find: Mun's RUU tool. Cool? No (just damned important, if you are a ROM-flashing whore).
Cool for people who seriously use their phones as mp3 players: Mortplayer. Hard to find? Not if you've ever heard of Google. Cool for anyone else? Probably not.
Seems to me the real issue is that you want to learn about cool programs that you have never heard of, since there's really no such thing as "hard to find" in this age of search engines and bottomless bulletin board archives, and since in this community, if one person has heard of it, many others have also tried it already, blogged about it, and possibly dissected it to discover its failings and/or successes.
Maybe you should just read the boards some more, and build yourself a set of shortcuts to promising apps, or better still, just download a bunch of crap to your phone, install, and try them for yourself. Pot the ones you don't like/don't need/can't use, and tell us which ones you kept and why.

tried xcpuscalar on my wizard with 2 different roms and would not recommend it. although the new version supports omap proc it just reboots the system for no apparent reason once in a while. especially buggy if you enable scaling option(speed adjusts depending on cpu usage). from my experience i would definatly recommend home screen plus plus(former battery) but if you use manilla its useless since manilla has to be disbled to even see it. with manilla tabs would recommend omapclock plus with consule(no scaling option but runs stable) or just overclock with smartkeys(although requires modifiyng the ini file in windows folder and cant see current clock. just my 2cents hopefully usefull for someone
