There are only two ways if you cannot get Bootloader (SPL) to run :

1. Send to RMA (gsm only : if it wasn't security unlocked)
2. Use Jtag (we only know pinouts for normal diamond yet)

On the same topic, i have a bricked touch diamond that does not have a working bootloader. Totally dead, computer does not recognize it etc. And to make thigns worse i dont have a receit for it. Bricking happened during installing a new cooked rom over a previous cooked rom without doing a hard reset between them.

What are my options to possibly make this HTC working again? For example, can i get it JTAG'ed somewhere, or can i get it repaired somewhere (manufacturer?) even without warrenty?

Flashing a new cooked ROM over a previously cooked ROM (obviously you have hardspl and all that) wont brick. Thats weirddddd!
Im sure you tried hardreset and all that stuff right?
Can you enter bootloader at least? or tottaly dead?

Tried hard reset > no luck. Left the phone sitting without a battery for a few days > nothing. Allso can't acces the bootloader, so basically totally dead:confused:

Any ideas?

6th January 2009, 06:10 PM
As far as i can tell, no. I'll check that again later, don't habe the phone here at the moment.

To Sergio PC: i read from somewhere that you should not install a new rom without a hard reset before that. None the less, that is propably what has happened here. You think that something else has gone wrong here?

Well it seems that you indeed killed your spl.

I'm trying to jtag my diamond soon and will reply to this thread.

This is so weird. Maybe somebody flashed cdma hspl on gsm diamond. This brick phone 101%, but gsm hspl on gsm phone - this is almous impossible, unless your battery is too low (but flashing with low battery even won't start). I'm litle scarry about flashing any htc device these days. And can somebody post here DIAM100 JTAG pinout ?

You mean dead as in throw it to the dogs or dead as in keep trying there is a way to unbrick it?

With JTAG, yes

viperbjk
6th January 2009, 08:34 PM
Exactly. RMA or JTAG.

For the latter one I need to code an app and verify that my jtag pinouts work.

The first option is however the best if you aren't quite good in soldering cables to small pads.

Damn, that sounds quite bad:(. So do you happen to know why would this totally kill the phone rather than just mess up the nand flash that could be saved with JTAG. What i've been reading about the way that nand flash memory is written, when you scren up the write and you dont have hardcoded bootloader, then there is nothing to "channel" the new data (new rom) throught the usb/motherboard/other circuitry. So here comes JTAG to the rescue as it can reprogram the flash using only four wires connected directly to the chip and some clever sounding techniques that happens inside the chip...

Then again, i might be totally wrong here because my knowledge about inner workings of a modern ic chip is slim to none:). But never the less, i still keep on hoping that there would be a way to save my touch, maybe even by sending it to someone with better knowledge and equipment to JTAG it (and pay a hefty compensation for it offcourse).

Any idea how much does the service cost to change the whole mainboard?

Ps. my english is not that great, especially on the techincal vocabulary. So i hope you all can still at least partially understant what i am trying to say:rolleyes:...

You are absolutely right. Only SPL is bricked, thus you only need to write spl to nand. You can do so using jtag.

How about the JTAG'n, does anyone or any place do it for money, besides actual service:). Anyone here willing to help me?

I don't know about GSM, but CDMA I haven't hard reseted between ROMs never bricked my phone (flased 22 ROMs already).

if ur phone is not 1 year old then u can send it off to htc for a repair and dont worry they will fix it;) all repairs should be covered by the warranty just like in my case i only had to oay for shipping to htc and thats it.just give them(htc) a call and talk to them they will forward a form to u to fill in and off u go.And also another thing they do ask for proof of purchase in my case it was just a print out from my paypall account for the transact of the phone purchase cos got it on ebay second hand.

I don't think HTC will even ask for a receipt as the diamond hasn't even been out for a year yet.

As long as it's within the warranty period.......receipts are not necessary. I've already inquired about this a while back. ;)

Also if everything on the phone was in order in that the bootloader has the original SPL, you will be fine.

Boys ... as promised, I report my findings about diamond jtag.

I just got it up and running :) This is a clear confirm diamond has a working jtag interface.

See here :

GSM Diamond Jtag working (http://forum.revskills.de/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=117&p=639#p639)

We need to do some testing .... so we have to try if nand writing/reading works.

viperbjk, why would htc not make these jtags available to everyone in the maintinance manual?

viperbjk
31st January 2009, 06:08 PM
Well guess why :)

Jtag is a debug interface. And it would be easy for most unlockers to hack a phone if everyone knew where to look for it.

Moreover, Jtag was never intended to be accessible in production models.

viperbjk,

I admit, I am a n00b when it comes to ppcs but I want to learn! I threw up a couple of posts here and at ppcgeeks.com seeking help and nobody had anything concrete to say to enlighten me. I have been scouring the net for the past 5 days and I always see more of your posts/answers/suggestions than anyone else. You seem to me to be one of the more helpful and informed guys around.:) I think you like helping poor shmoes like me out.

I think I bricked my phone when I accidently flashed a CDMA rom to my GSM Diamond. (MightyRom 4.6 over Dutty's). I turn on my phone and it hangs at the black screen HTC Diamond logo. When I hard reset, it wizzes right by the RGB screen(it's up for 1.5 secs) and asks me to push vol up to reset to manufacturers settings or vol down to reset and wipe the movinand or another button for no reset. Whichever option I pick(cept for the no reset), I get the boot progress bar and then, when that's done, hang time at the HTC logo. USB isn't recognized at all anywhere during this process.

Am I the new owner of a sleek, stylish, extremely overpriced and modern paperweight or is JTAG my solution?

In any case, I thank you for simply reading my post(i just realized, it's almost novel length!) and if you answer, well, I will be forever grateful!

Again, thanks for your time,
HM01

I "trigger" booted and it's all ready to get flashed. I read enough about flashing while looking for a solution, so I'm thinking I should be ok. I hope so anyways...so please don't waste your time on me just yet.

Thanks again for all your efforts.

I did brick my diamond after tryin the unlocker.exe...i tried to enter the bootloader by pressing volume down and reset button but the bootloader stay only for 2 sec and cannot sync with my pc..when i try to charge the bootloader keep poping up a few sec and repeat it self and it wont charge the phone....nothing is workin, all the button dead, it wont switch on when i press power button, the bootloader keep repeating it self for 2 sec and the device cannot sync with pc for flashing...got realy frustrated and i sent my diamond to htc for repair. They told me that it was the board problem and my warranty is void cause they found the 3rd party hardspl installed on the device...they ask for USD 320 for the repair. way to much...
So i get my device back and try to fix it my self..after days of browsing i found a solution on xda (cant remember which post). i tried the solution and it worked..i made my diamond back to life again....
Here is the solution...you hv to press and hold the power and volume down button the same time then press the reset button and lift but still holding the 2 button for few more sec till the bootloader appear.. when the bootloader appear it will sync to your pc and stay there few more sec a bit longer then before...therefore u must quickly flash the new hardspl again...it may sounds easy but its a bit tricky... i tried 7 times to make it work...if you succeed then your diamond is back to life....
Hope this will work for u guys...

heya Matt,

All I did was trigger boot my phone and it recognized the usb after a few minutes of hang time.. Trigger booting is simply hard resetting but instead of holding down the enter button(middle round one), hold down the arrow. When you get to the multi-colored screen, plug in the usb and it should recognize it after a few secs, mins. Just wait til you see "usb" displayed at the bottom of your screen. Once you're there, you can proceed with flashing the ROM of your choice. Dutty's ROMs are usually kick ass, fast and bug free.

Good luck bro,
HM01

firstly i didnt really read this thread properly, but if anyone else has a bricked Diamond then here is the solution:

- enter bootloader (voldown+poweron) tricolour
- connect to usb
- google RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.3_Radio_Signed_Dia mond_52.26.25.09_0.93.25.26_Ship and run it!

it worked! restored my Os then i could flash a cooked rom once OS booted!

i accidentally flashed a CDMA os to my GSM Diamond; what a n00b i am! no other cooked roms with DiamonCustomRUU.exe would work - said communication error (when in tricolour). and the diamond got stuck after first splash screen.

i was sooo relieved when i found the solution!
