View Full Version : Bad Blocks, but rtask 2a not working.

Hi,

I've got a Hermes which the previous owner corrupted the radio rom on by trying to back rev it to something it shouldn't have been. It shows No GSM on bootup and hangs when trying to flash the radio rom. I can do everything else (Flash O/S etc). I've tried the various unbricking options but none of these have worked.

Reading another thread today, I checked for bad blocks and as you can see below, it reported Block 0x6 is Bad !!

I had the SPL 2.10 Oli bootloader on it and when I try running task 2a, it does nothing - just returns me to the prompt. I put SPL-1.10 Oli on and tried again and got exactly the same.

Are there any other methods for trying to recover bad blocks, or any specific bootloader I should be using ?

Below's the output from mtty :-

Any ideas ? Thanks.

Instead of rtask 2a try task 2a...
Worked for me with 1.10 oli.

Cheers...:D

Doh. I meant to put task 2a in the original post, but when I went to capture it I accidentally put rtask 2a !!

Anyway, using task 2a does exactly the same (IE Nothing) and I'm using 1.10 Oli.

Any other ideas ? Thanks.

Well, I am not an expert on this, but as far as I know sometimes there are factory marked bad blocks (this has been mentioned elsewhere) so it may be normal.
Mine look like this -

Cmd>info 8
Block 0x0(0) is Reversed block
Block 0x1(1) is Reversed block
Block 0x2(2) is Reversed block
Block 0x3(3) is Reversed block
Block 0x4(4) is Reversed block
Block 0x5(5) is Reversed block
Block 0x6(6) is Reversed block
Block 0x7(7) is Reversed block
Block 0x8(8) is Reversed block
Block 0x9(9) is Reversed block
Block 0xA(10) is Reversed block
Block 0xB(11) is Reversed block
Block 0xC(12) is Reversed block
Block 0xBE(190) is BAD block !!!
Block 0xDC(220) is BAD block !!!

Partition[0], type=0x20, start=0x2, total=0x18FE
Partition[1], type=0x23, start=0x1900, total=0x1900
Partition[2], type=0x25, start=0x3200, total=0x1D700
Partition[3], type=0x4, start=0x20900, total=0x1E700

CE Total Length(with sector info) = 0x4224800
CE CheckSum Length(without sector info) = 0x4120000

Cmd>task 2a
Check block : 190 - Bad

Check block : 220 - Bad

These aren't able to be fixed... The carrier "branded" my Jasjam with these bad blocks.

If the radio rom is corrupt maybe it affects it too...

Thanks for the reply. The strange thing about mine though is it marks Block 0x6 as both BAD and REVERSED ??

I had the 'normal' bad blocks like UltraMag but when I first flashed Olipro 2.10, those bad blocks disappeared. I don't think there is anything you can do to get rid of that bad block.
