Does anyone know if it is possible to cook WM2003 for PPC into a Hermes rom?
Before you go telling me what an idiot I am, or saying why would anyone want to, it's just a simple question.
The concept is this, WM2003 uses much less program memory to run the OS.
I know that the availability of programs for 2003 is more limited than WM6 or WM5, but the main programs that I use are available in all 3 OS versions.
Has HTC made a WM2003 phone in the past and could it be ported to the Hermes?
Thanks
(edit) it looks like at least the Himalaya was 2003 - is it possible to port this rom?

The memory management of WM2003 and WM5/6 is totall different!
WM2003(se) doesn't have persistent memory, WM5/6 have. With WM2003(SE)
everything is stored in RAM,

with WM5/6 data is stored in ROM

see the difference?
You can study the article here (http://www.pocketpccentral.net/help/ipaq/pmem_explained.htm)

well that kind of explains things but it still leaves some questions, like how the HTC Wallaby, it can run wm2003 or wm5 or 6, it has 2 chips a 128m and a 64m.
Another question that arises is can the OS wm2003 be loaded to just the rom on the Hermes.
I understand that this right now is simply a lesson in "could it be done," and I am not a programmer or a software developer, and I don't build pda's so I don't really understand how they are designed to work, but if it could be done, and I would have to think that it is possible for someone who know what they are doing, it could provide a sleek device with plenty of speed and program memory.
Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I think it is at least worth exploring.

It is. i don't think developers wanna go back to build a 2003SE ROM for a WM5/6 device. The mentioned devices like the Blue Angel have the hardware to RUN other OS Ask the developers how it works.

OK sounds logical, thanks for the input.
