my feeback:
when i run the program for the first time it's not full screen for the top and i need to press (Home) button so the program goes to the background and call itself again to work properly

anyway i liked it and i think with some more developing it'll be fantastic! :)

keep up the good work!

I have to say man. I'm very impressed. You've managed to do what LogMeIn has been doing commerically. I love that it's free. :) I for one love the functionality, it is not that attractive in my opinion, but the functionality matters more. I'll be keeping this app.

P.S I like your music choice ;)

Cool! I did something similar with Omnipresence a while ago (check my signature), but got bored with it, as I do with many of my other projects. :) I actually mean to open source that code as a reference to other developers. Cool stuff nonetheless!

Edit:
What sort of compression algorithms are you using? Are you just sending raw frame buffers, or sending PNGs in sequence? Are you sending the entire screen, or just the portion being viewed?

Remote Touch is my first app for my first WiMo phone.

I made it as I couldn't find anything free that was
fast (fast = quick start up, quick to control). I use it mainly
to control my PC attached to my plasma when watching movies or
listening to music. Also for transferring music across from
my PC without having to connect my HTC Touch every time (so annoying !).

It's a work in progress ... will fix them over time.

@Koush:
I use an algorithm similar to deflate - my own though.
Can definitely improve on it ...

Can you email me details of your phone ? (remote.touch@gmail.com)
I have a feeling the reason you couldn't run it again (or seemed like it) was the old instance was still possibly running on your phone and the new instance was trying to connect but the server was still connected to the old instance.

Color me impressed! :)

I've used LogMeIn, RemoteDesktop, etc. to control a desktop from my mobile device and they work, but this just seems a bit faster all around than the others (which I know was the point *grin*).

I tested it connected directly to my PC which of course was fast, but it's very usable over a 3G internet connection as well.

There are certainly bugs to be worked out and refinements to be made, but I'll be following the development closely. Luckily the bug where you get no menu bar isn't a show stopper for me as I have a "home" hardware button that for some reason always fixes the missing menu bar. I'll send in some feature requests to the email address listed. ;)

Thanks for your work on this!

Nice but doesnt work in landscape on my Samsung Omnia and in portrait the image looks a bit squeezed.

AlienHairball
24th November 2008, 12:46 AM
Yeah it doesn't work right in landscape mode which is honestly the best way to see more of the screen IMO.

The looking squeezed problem seems to be related to the fact that you aren't able to select what you view using any sort of set aspect ratio so if you select a long rectangle then it squeezes that region to fit your mobile screen. I suppose that could be useful at times, but I feel we need an option to select a rectangle that already matches the aspect ratio of our mobile screen so what we view may be zoomed, but never has to be distorted (squeezed or stretched.)

Actually, Remote touch tries to remember the aspect ratio across sessions, which was something I really wanted, so if I zoomed in on something and reconnected, I'd be looking at the same thing and the same zoom level.

To fix the problem your talking about, goto Menu > Reset and it will bring the aspect ratio back to 1:1 with your screen (so useful when you go to landscape mode).

Yes, Remote Touch currently doesn't support auto orientation change. It does support land scape and portrait and any screen size, but only after restarting the app. Have a read:

I got it working over the wifi connection, and it's working great, but no such luck over 3G. I even tried the work-around listed in t2remotetouch.blogspot.com without success. I have this issue, soft reset fixed it.

Have no menu. pressing home button kills the app, and can't run it again :( hope SR will help

I have this issue too, soft reset fixed it.

I also had another issue i didnt see listed here, details below:

at my GF's house i used your remove with the ip from her network, when i got home and tryed to use RT on my network with a different ip, the first time i tryed to start the app, the screen flashed and nothing happened.

the second time i tryed to start RT, again nothing happened, but some text appeared on the home screen, where "Start" is supposed to be and it said "Default Ime" so i hit the home key and killed the process.

I uninstalled, soft reset, then reinstalled, tryed to start RT again and i got a warning saying:

"Cannot connect to ip: xxx.xxx.x.xxx"

and the ip it was trying to connect to was the IP from my GF's network, but there was no option to change the ip before it tryed to connect. I changed to my IP and it worked fine.

as a small test i walked over to my neighbours house, and did the same thing, ran the server on his computer, tryed to run RT from my device and it started crashing etc, then again i had to uninstall, soft reset, reinstall and it worked again.

I think a good solution to this would be to have a profile system, so that more than one location/ip can be saved, and before RT trys to connect you have to select the location/ip relevant to the network you are currently in, the allow RT to connect.

Another thing i noticed, is i have no menu at the bottom, there is no buttons at all, but i think this is caused by the fact that for some reason the window isnt sitting correctly in my screen, when it loads, it is sitting about 15-20pixels down and i can see my taskbar at the top, this goes away if i press the home key and i can see the buttons at the bottom of RT as the screen shifts into the right place

This i a really nice app BTW, at the moment it is coming up to overtake G-Remote for coolness/functionality. I never thought i would actually be able to remote to my system from anywhere AND see the screen on my Diamond!!!

Sorry for the long message, i just wanted to try and include as much detail as i could.

Would it be possible to add + and - zoom controls? Because Overview zooms out too far for me, as my PC is 1920*1200 resolution, so overview is very hard to see any detail on.
Itd be cool if we could slowly zoom in and out in steps so that we can find the best level. Drawing the box in overview is cool, but i can never get it to match the origanal aspect ratio.
Also, any chance to have an option to keep colour on when using scroll and overview? Instead of going black and white, maybe show an icon somewhere to indicate scroll or overview is on?

Nice app, I've been dreaming of it : it took me about 10s to connect to my computer by its dyndns adress behind a rooter via 2G/3G data connection... Good !
A few points :
- Your installer won't work in any other language than english
- It seems to have difficulties with my 1680*1050 resolution : works fine at first, but quiclky the screen messes up.
- It won't autoconnect if there is no active data connection.

When you say it crashed do you mean it took a loonng time before it says could not connect ? That's what happens to me when I switch between computers I want to control.

I'll try using the Dpad to allow incrementing/decrementing the zoom in scroll mode. (add to my list of features) Btw, have you tried using the zoom in and out feature in scroll mode ? Tap a region in scroll mode to zoom in or Tap and hold a region to zoom out.

Also, any chance to have an option to keep colour on when using scroll and overview? Instead of going black and white, maybe show an icon somewhere to indicate scroll or overview is on?

Yeah I'll add a option in the future.

I should warn that I get A LOT of feature requests, so it may take time to get a version with a feature you request.

Hi dani,

If you use a WiFi at home try following the installer video:

If you want to use any internet connection from anywhere, follow these general steps:

1. Are you talking about detecting the IP address ? If so, yes I need to fix that.

2. It should work with any desktop resolution without a problem. However, currently Remote Touch will NOT handle changing resolution or bit depth of the computer you are controlling while you are connected through your mobile. Is that what were you were doing ?

3. Yes, that's a known issue.

No : the problem comes from the program copy to start menu. However, I didn't try to correct the batch myself and followed the steps manually.

HI.
This is very useful application and I really like it but I've got some problems with it. For instance after pressing any letter button on included software keyboard, application turns itself off.
Other thing is that my touchscreen isn't that great (it's not sensitive enough or something) so in 'Scroll' mode while I'm trying to scroll, I very often accidentally double tap the screen. The solution would be to implement scroll bars as an option, it'd also help in faster scrolling when the resolution of the remote desktop is very high like 1920x1200 or an option to disable double tap zooming and replace it with seprate option in the menu.
And the last thing, the lack of option to select an aspect ratio in 'Overview' mode which somebody has mentioned about earlier in this thread. It would be great to be able to select an aspect ratio of the selection area compatible with a given device to get rid of distorted screen (squeezed or stretched).

Oh and my WM device: HP iPAQ 214.
Operating system on PC: Vista x64.

Thank you in advance for any of your suggestions :)

Great program, works on my HTC Touch (CDMA). A couple suggestions:

1. Autoconnect to data network as an option. For those who don't have wifi.

2. if there was a progress bar for when your'e downloading a file between the pc and the phone, right now you can't tell if you're done downloading a file from the PC to the phone and vice versa.

3. Landscape mode.

Thanks!

In version 1.1 and below, you can't change the orientation while running remote touch. If you make your screen landscape and then run remote touch it will work in landscape mode.

I'm currently working on 1.2 and it can handle orientation change. It's not complete so I'm not releasing it yet. :)

How exactly do you close this program? It has taken over all my buttons and tapping/sliding/circling the screen does nothing. Had to reset to get back to today screen. Uninstalled.
edit- I'm on a telus touch pro with mighty 4.12 rom

So you couldn't see the custom menu bar at the bottom of the screen ?
Try pressing the home button or the right HW button of your phone it should fix itself up.

Again, I THINK I've fixed this full screen bug in version 1.2 which isn't released yet.

hi,first congratulations for this amazing job

i'm very interested to run this app on my winmo phone (diamond) but i've been trying it 2 hours without result, i changed port, putted it on firewall router exception, activate no-ip adress and host (DNS) and it can't be find, and via activesync included, so i have no more ideas to try to run it.
and the installer don't shows me any ip to try.

any ideaż
thnx

Make sure you have set port forwarding in your router to send remote touch traffic (port 3230 by default) to the computer that has the remote touch server running.

I can suggest reading this blog entry

No no, was my fault, changed the order of the numbers of ip, lol.
When i discovered the fail i became pokerface:D

One question, this app connects to pc by wifi, and the ip is from pc for my wifi, so if i go to another place (out of my wifi area) this ip will not be the same, so how i connect?

The no-ip and DNS program dislikes me, there's another way? Without having any host?

Thanks

Thx ur hard work !!:)

I like this program and try to use it, but failed with "remote touch error"..

i had follow ur instruction on your blog.

http://t2remotetouch.blogspot.com/search/label/Tutorial

And also click some ads there..:D

But i still confuse about the network setting.

Do i need to create a new wireless adhoc network in my laptop first, and then my HTC need to connect to this adhoc network, so i can using remote touch.

Or , just use the exiting wireless network which use to connect to internet.

Because the tutorial not showing which wireless network to be connected.... so i confuse at this step...

I cannot wait to show to my friend how my diamond can wireless control my laptop

You must connect your device to your wireless, then connect hte touch remote to the ip of your computer in the router.

The problem is when the wifi is not from your pc

Yes, the current Remote Touch won't let you control your PC when it is locked.

Hmm, not sure why no-ip doesnt work for you.
Can you explain why no-ip dislikes you ? :)

If you PC has a static ip address, you could goto http://www.whatismyip.com/ from your PC and find it's external ip address and then use that in remote touch.

If your PC has a dynamic ip address, your PC's ip address may change at some point and then you won't be able to connect again.

For those folks who had issues installing on Vista, now you can use a proper installer for the free version which will install for all users and allow transferring the cab file to your phone.
Download the free version here http://t2remotetouch.blogspot.com/

I have posted a video on how to use the Remote Touch Keyboard Maker.

I'm not sure I understand your question about rotation.
Rotation is supported but I think Diamond users need to use G-sen.

is this ad-ware supported? After I installed it, my browser opened by itself informing me "you have selected to sponsor this child ... blablabla"?? Also, the scrolling adds on the phone are annoying.

I also loose the connection every time the phone screen turns off ... annoying. I was hoping to control Windows MPC with this while watching movies on the big screen (which is getting input from the PC), but it's not really working for me.

It's supported, check out website. Just click X to get rid of scrolling ads (or pay to remove). If you click on scrolling, it will pop up browser.

Perhaps you see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522899) if it's better for your needs. (As I already cross posted there, I hope ok cross posting back :D)

I've been using this software on my Touch HD for sometime now and i really like it!
Especcially the various keyboards you can make yourself!
Attached are screenshots of my keyboard (with mousepad) and the file, i use these with BSPlayer (when watching on my tv, so i don't have to walk to my PC to play/pause etc).

I've one question or issue. When using the touchpad the wifi connections tends to drop after 5 seconds or so, when i just use the buttons and tap on the screen (so not in keys mode) the connections stays. This even happens when i attach the phone to a USB-port. After using the touchpad my connects stops.

Is there a solution to this problem?

I don't know why this is happening. I use this with WMP and a Song Projection program, and I have not had this issue. I have used the 'default' Mouse keypad, and been playing with it for over a minute using WiFi.

I wonder if there's something overriding on your computer? Is it a laptop? Have you said to 'switch off' laptop mousepad when external mouse connected - this may cause a problem.

Hy Jonny,

First of thanks for the quick reply!
I have a standard desktop computer. I've have also tried the 'default' mouse keypad, but it gives the same issue as my own created one.
The weird thing for me is that when i use the normal screen (so no mouse/keys thing), i can move around the mouse as long as i want, however, when i open up the pad it drops the wifi connections within a few seconds :S.

All other functions are great though ;)!

Hope someone has any clue what this could be :)!
