View Full Version : [26.11.2008] WifiLocations v0.6 - Location based Wifi/BT/Ringer/user app's (de)activa

Hello All,\

I've made a little program called WifiLocations. It does a lot more then you might think, currently:

Current Version : V0.6

- Specify locations (based on GSM/UMTS Cell-ID) where WiFi will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave)
- Specify locations where Bluetooth will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave) or the otherway around (for headset/carkit usage).
- Specify locations where your ringer should be turned off or to vibrate (and back to previous state when you leave)
- Run a user-specified program when in specified location (and the choice of killing it when you leave).
- Name the Cell's so it's a little less confusing.
- Autostart on reboot-option

You don't need GPS for this!
CDMA cells are not supported, if you have info on how to read the ID's contact me.
If you think something doesn't work right, please let me know in this thread!
If you want to request a feature, please ask here!

I produced this because I use my incoming voip number a lot when I'm on wifi and I didn't want to activate wifi everytime I walk into a wifi-location (hence the name!). You can add your current location or walk around for 60seconds in your house to add all used GSM/UMTS-cellsites. (You have to add them both if your in a low 3g-signal area)

Well if you like it, let me know or even donate (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=ebay%40snempaa%2enl&lc=NL&item_name=WifiLocations&currency_code=EUR&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_LG%2egif%3aNonHos ted);) I've always wanted to go to st. Petersburg and trying to pay for a ticket by developing free software:)

Free to distribute as long as it includes a link to my donation page along with the download link and a link to these forum pages.

Known Errors:

-WiFi in standby mode isn't functioning correctly I think
-Current Cell in mainform isn't updated until you restart
-Killing the app by pressing 'X' doesn't remove the trayicon

VERY NICE!!!

Just tried it, one thing, in the "walk around for 60 seconds" I did this, and it found another cell site, but it never added it.

Also, will it turn off the WIFI when out of range of the cell sites?

snempaa
21st November 2008, 05:08 PM
I will take a look at the 'non-adding-after-60-s' error tonight. And it should disable wifi when you're outside the reach of the gsm/umts-cell.

Actually it DID add it after I closed it down and re-started it, it now shows the other cell site.

thanks now I know what to fix when I get home! because the cell grabbing happens in another thread it can not directly change items on the gui thread! will fix this asap

Looks like a great utility.

Question : All it does is switch on the wifi? One still has to go through the login (for security enabled wifi) or other access means as defined at the particular hotspot ??

Btw, here is the site of a PC program that behaves more or less similarly. Perhaps useful for ideas ???

Thanks

I think you're not getting the point of my application, it uses your Cell-position to activate your wifi. So you save battery and your voip protocol can be activated whenever you get to your home(or other)-cell... The wifi-profiles can be created through any wireless profile manager!

This should be solved now...

Nice app...I have a request that although probably not used by alot of folks it seems like a simple enhancement in "concept"....can you add the option to enable/disable BLUETOOTH instead of wifi based on location? I tether my phone to my house alot and use it as the internet feed...it would be nice if when I got to the home location it auto linked up with the pc and gave it internet without me having to think about it..the process seems the same. Am I off base?

Hmm upon further study it's not that simple...I'd also need to still run the internet sharing app...so perhaps not so simple. ;)

snempaa

@famewolf, I'll take a look at it. Never worked with bluetooth before, but I don't think it's much work.
I just created the application for personal use, because I tend to use voip a lot. I posted it here so so everybody could use it if they want to.

About the feature you request, you want bluetooth to be activated or does it need more functionality?

famewolf
21st November 2008, 09:34 PM
Well after thinking on it more it would take more than just activating bluetooth...would also need to be able to run a program when bluetooth was enabled so I'll just be thankful for what you provided. Your program will come in very handy when visiting my relatives...the cell reception in their house is crappy and I always end up enabling wifi and logging onto their router when in house to get email etc....will use your program to auto enable it.

Of use to people who "dabble" in voip....you can use fring and grandcentral to get a "free incoming" phone # that uses voip...and the new idialer allows grandcentral out calls as well....this would potentially works well with these apps...hmmm perhaps you SHOULD consider allowing the user to execute an app when wifi comes up or down so they can run whatever sip client they are using?

snempaa

@famewolf, I think what you mention can be very interesting. I know that starting another app isn't a big problem. Working on the hiding of the form and autostarting now. Will add the functionality to start an app lateron.

snempaa

Download new version, now includes working start-at-boot-mode and auto hiding the form. I want to change the complete set-up because it wasn't designed properly.... some other time.

good program. looks like the makings to the 'locale' program for android. If you added some volume profiles that would automatically switch you would be set. It would be nice to have my phone mute itself when i got to work and turn the volume back on when i left for home.

This program ist simply brilliant. If have been looking for something like this for a long time and programs like this one are the reason, I never got an Iphone.

One question though: your program seems to keep the Wifi connection alive all the time. Is it possible to add an option to have it running in powersave mode (i. e. power down in suspend mode)?

EDIT: Sorry to bother you. The behavior of the wifi energy save features has nothing to with your neat program. For some reason my wifi was hanging. It seems, I still have to get accustomed to my Touch HD (or the firmware bugs).

snempaa
22nd November 2008, 11:51 AM
@twcook, I think that's because you're not on a gsm/umts network, I really don't have a clue how to solve that yet. I'll put it on the todolist. If anyone has information on how to get other that gsm/umts-cells let me know.

@nmeister, good one, put that on the todolist as well. But I won't be working on it a lot this weekend, got other plans.

Hi snempaa,
do you think you can provide it with bluetooth support as well?

Just turn bluetooth on or off!

My hands-free in the car is connecting by bluetooth! so it would be good if the tool turns on my bluetooth if I leave my house.

Thanks and Cheers

But it would shut off your bluetooth when you left the area (out of the cell site range)

Unless you had a "reverse on/off behavior" switch of some sort in settings..which would make it "leave bluetooth on everywhere EXCEPT these id's...."

My situation is when i am at home my cell and data signal are weak or nonexistent so in turn it chews up my battery to less than an hour of capacity, so I use Modaco Nodata to toggle the data off. If I use comm manager it doesnt work because if I turn off data in comm manager as soon as a program tryies to access data it comes right back on.

So I would think a killer app would be to have configs for wifi & data toggling on and off based on location, which would greatly extend battery life. It really sucks when you forget to toggle off data in a weak signal area and in 30 minutes you are getting a low battery warnining and dont have a charger...

I presume this is currently not for CDMA phones like the touch pro?

If he adds the function to run a program when entering/leaving a zone most of these tasks can be handled via third party tasks...you could easily call a mortscript or even nodata etc with command line parms etc....doubt he will support cdma unless you can tell him exactly how to identify your cell id's...he can't very well do that when he's on gsm I wouldn't think. ;)

Hi, it's a very very good progy, but if I set my OrbitII into suspendmode (standby) and switch in on again, it seems that WiFi isn't switch off, is it?

Could you please correct this, or spend a feature to prevent Wifi in suspend/standby mode? I need the akku power a little bit longer ... ;)

@Orbitter2, I'll take a look at this, but want I wanted to use it for in the first place was voip, so I'd also be able to receive calls when my phone is in standby mode, but I'll try to add th eoption... probably will work on it tomorrow.

hi, this looks like the start of a nice app.

thanks for sharing.

I was wondering what the interval option does?

It would be handy to be able to set a schedule to this aswell, but sounds like alot of work i guess.

New version! Please download and update (don't need to delete first version, but you do need to add functionalities to a cell using the 'edit cell' button).
Now supports bluetooth, ringeroptions and userdefined programs @ entering location.

Please report bugs.

hi,

does anyone understand what the interval option does?

thanks

Should have included that in the help-popup. Or better I should make the app more clear, but it is the interval to check if the cell-id has changed. Default once a minute it quickly checks if your location has changed.

I'm asking anyone who'd like to give the app a new design to come forward because I'm not really a designer as you can see;)

@tirmis@beren, It is probably because a native dll (ril.dll) isn't completed on your device. The sollution is trying to update it, but this is very hard and with the original rom I think it's impossible. Anyway you should be carefull.

hey =) I've installed 0.5 now...

- Changing the sound to silence when I come into work-cell works fine - but its not possible to change it automatic to louder again, when I leave it =(
- I renamed a cell (found by an older version) to Home01. After that I searched for new cells again. Than I had "012345-012345,Home01" AND "012345-012345,NoName". Now I deleted all old cells and that bug gone away.
- I got Cells called "Timeout-Timeout" and "ERROR-ERROR" again.
- What will happen when I have no cell-connection for a short time? I think the best would be that the last active wifi/sound status will stay?!
- "- WifiLocations 0.1" AND "- WifiLocations 0.5" are in the application overview now!? Deinstalling 0.1 deletes 0.5 as well
- application was installed in the phone-memory even if I chose the intern-memory at the installation

snempaa
25th November 2008, 07:45 PM
@Phil82de, Thanks for the good feedback, I totally forgot about the reconfiguring of the ringertypes when leaving the cells! About the cell-duplicates, I didn't know it was possible but I know a way to fix that.
I got the timeout cell's myself as well in this version, don't know where they come from it's probably because of a change I made in the code.
The duplicate entries in the application overview had come to my attention as well, will fix this as well in the next version.

In the last part of your message you probably mean when you install in on your memorycard,. I think this is because of the lack of knowledge about making cab-files;) The is one of the first apps i've made into a cab-file, so I have to get into that as well, but it won't be on top of my list.

I won't be able to work on it tonight, cause I have other plans, but I'll release an update before I'm off to Moscow this weekend! Anybody who can spare an Moscow-prepaid-simcard, please let me know!

Just installed v0.6 and will do some testing today. At home my touch hd seems to be constantly changing between 3 cells.

Question: Are settings only changed when entering or leaving a cell? If I set the wifi option to 'off' for my current cell it won't turn off (and bluetooth won't turn on)? I thought that was what the interval was for. What happens when I stay in a cell, but change options?

Many thanks for implement the option to stop WiFi at standby!

Another request or better another feature to think about:

In my region, the cells coverage a very lage area. So my wifi only swithed off 2km away from home. Is it possible to combine the cells the progy detect and swith wifi only on and off, if all this cells are in an operating distance. Maybe you can find out the strangth of the collected cells and define a percent discrepancy where the position is valid. Maybe the position is only valid if all collected cells are in operating distance. So if cells could be combine under a name of a position you can reach this goal.

[v0.6]
Current cell info doesn't seem to refresh when I keep the application open. I opened WifiLocations in the basement at work (no radio signal), so current cell info is empty. I move upstairs and get a radio signal again, but current cell info remains empty. When clicking 'add current cell-id' I get a 'location allready exists' message, so WifiLocations is aware of the new cell-id. Only choosing 'Stop and Exit' and restarting WifiLocations refreshes the interface.

Maybe WifiLocations could refresh the info at the interval rate or there could be a dedicated button to refresh the info.

hey! I tested 0.5 last night and got a few big errors. Don't know if its already fixed in 0.6 but I wanted to write down before testing the newer version now.

- I wondered why the battery gone emty over night in 0.5 (I think it was already the same with 0.2) and noticed that the Wifi was on even in telefone-standby. But this on-in-standby-option was never marked. That problem gone away after some soft-resets.

- I collected cells at work today again after deleting all cells last night. I wondered why the silence-option worked but my wifi is not active. (Strange - why is one changed, and not the other?) Than I noticed that the active cell was "ERROR - ERROR" all the time. Can this happen becose the application runs twice? Once from autostart and one time by start over program-menu for change the settings? I guess that becose when I open wifilocations over program-menu after it already runs from autostart I see this ERROR-Cell very often. When I stop and exit it than and run again the right Cell is found.

@gormac, if you stay in a cell but edit the options they will be obeyed after the interval indeed. But if the software didn't turn on wifi because you had already turned it on yourself, it also will not turn it off when leaving a cell. That's the same with BT/applications.
@nick_martin, there is a switch in the software to keep wifi on in standby mode, but I think I got it configured the wrong way, so try to check it and see if it works. If not, let me know, I'll try to fix it.
@hanackin, good idea, will post them today.
@Orbitter2, sorry but that's impossible. Would like to implement that but it's impossible in WindowsMobile phones to get all the found cells, you can only read out the one you're connected with. By the way, did the wifi in standby mode work?
@gormac, that's true it's only updated when the form in constructed, so I'll change that so it will be updated after any button is pressed or something like that.
@Phil82de, I think the wifi in standby mode is implemented the otherway around, so please try that and I'll change it. If it just doesn't work let me know. The application is not running twice, because at startup, the form is just hidden and when you run the application this same form is shown. I think it could be the fact that when it's running and you enter the application it'll try to access the Cell-ID to show the current location, but in the background a thread is also running to manage your cells/settings. I'll try to fix this so that I'll read the last known location from the other thread.

The 'wifi on in sleep mode' option doesn't seem to work at all on my touch hd. Wifi was turned on by wifilocations, but putting my touch hd in sleep mode seems te keep the wifi connection alive. When I turn on the display again the wifi connection is active allready and doesn't seem to be connecting.

I don't have the errors Phil82de has, but if I disable touchflo 3d and look at the home screen I see 2 wifilocation icons in the bottom right corner (system tray?). The wifilocations interface is not open. I don't know if this means wifilocations runs twice. Pressing one of the icons does nothing. It seems that if I close the wifilocations interface with the 'x' in the top right corner the icon doesn't disappear. Every start and close with 'x' of wifilocations adds another icon to the system tray. I now have 4... ehh... 5 icons in my tray. I think something needs a little work... :D I think 'x' should do the same as 'Stop and exit', no?

hmm, I don't think the standby mode is implemented 'the otherway around'.

I installed 0.6 now and wifi was on in standby than. I made a softreset of my phone again and now wifi is of in standby - but even when I mark "wifi-on-in-sleep" than! It don't take effect on my phone now.

(I personally wouldn't really need this option for myself as long wifi is of in standby and don't use power)

hi there,
i found something about editing the ril.dll file but since I don't know about programming I don't know what I've found or if it is usefull.
you might wanna check it for:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa919118.aspx

@tirmis@beren, It is probably because a native dll (ril.dll) isn't completed on your device. The sollution is trying to update it, but this is very hard and with the original rom I think it's impossible. Anyway you should be carefull.

sometimes its not changing the wifi-status in 0.6.
Perhaps because of two strange status messages I got: "current cell : " and "Only Numbers please". Both messages don't appear at the next time after pressing "stop and exit" and restarted the application

(@snempaa: Thank You for so much work You put into this project!!)

Edit 23:59: I think its perhaps something wrong with the autostart. I made a softreset again (because of the wifi-on-at-sllep-problem, but this time it dosn't helped). After booting wifi was disabled, cell ID was " : ". All until I stopped and restarted the application, then it got a right cell ID and wifi connects.

Hi Snempaa,

I really like your program! I also like that your so enthusiastic about improving it further and that you are so fast in doing it ;-)

But your speed is also why I wanted to ask if you could add support for AppToDate to easily stay up to date with your improvements?

Thanks :-)

Hi Snempaa,

I've been using your app on my Touch HD and think its great. I've got a suggestion on a feature I'd like to see. As well as turning wifi on in a given cell location could it also turn off the data connection. When I've got wifi on I dont need my data connection (3G function) active.

Keep up the good work!

1. bluetooth is not activated, nor deactivated
2. wifi is not starting, mainly the program is not responding!

v0.1 doesnt have such name things and was working fine (with all bugs) but still working. after this name implementation i think things are messed up.

It would be nice if you could add a function to group cell ids.

Something like that:

Home (Wifi & Bluetooth ON)

Cinema (Ringer OFF)
- ID3
- ID4

Work (Bluetooth ON & Ringer OFF)
- ID5
- ID6
- ID7

I'm sorry, but after using WifiLocations for a while I'm beginning to think gsm cells are simply too big to be used for switching wlan functionality on and off. My wlan is almost allways on (and thus using lots of energy) using my home and work gsm cells. Isn't there a way to narrow down the location more without using gps?

Maybe here in The Netherlands everything is just so darn close together... ;)

I found a bug... I added about 8 spots, and the program would get very, very slow... when clicking to add another new cell location, it would basically stall, for minutes... whole thing became non-responsive overall.

Today, it crashed on bootup as well after that.

Quite strange. I have now uninstalled it and will only add a few spots.

As an idea, when I'm at home I don't care if Bluetooth is on or off, but when I LEAVE home, I ALWAYS want the Bluetooth to be on (because I'll be using my bluetooth headset).

To put it a different way, I sometimes use the Bluetooth at home, sometimes to copy to other friend's phones, or to use my bluetooth headset on long calls, but sometimes I don't. However, I ALWAYS use bluetooth when i leave my home/cell area.

Is there any way to set it, so that if you LEAVE the cell location(s), to turn bluetooth ON, regardless if it is on before in the cell area?

Thanks in advance! Great program! Where do I donate btw?!

Hello,

As there was no software like this one for windows mobile, my HTC Touch HD has all the time Bluetooth ON (I have a in-car headset).

Well, I'm trying to add only places that indicate I'm not using the bluetooth in conjuction with my car, for example my home, work, etc, but WifiLocations is not turning off the Bluetooth on those places.
I tried everything, Activate BT and Reverse BT Mode both ON, only Reverse BT Mode ON, and Activate BT plus Reverse BT Mode both OFF. I also restart the program to try to force these options but never get any luck.

Any ideas??
I suggest an option, to add Bluetooth Mode OFF to ensure that Bluetooth is in fact OFF on the chosen cell.

May I also give a sugestion to modify the name, as it no longer is a wifi only program but it embraces more options.

Hello,
I've installed WiFi locations on my HTC Touch HD. It works great, but there's one thing to verify.
The option "WiFi on in sleep-mode" works in opposite way - when it's checked, it breaks WiFi connection in sleep-mode. It keeps connection alive in sleep-mode when the option is not checked.

Hi, great work this is just what I've been looking for. I have a couple of questions about it: I want to turn off bluetooth when in a cell on my list and turn it on when outside them for car hands free. for this do I need to tick both activate bluetooth and reverse bluetooth mode? also, will the phone make this switch even when it is sleeping as it would be great if it switched effortlessly when I got in the car. perhaps you could even be more specific and detect a bluetooth device eg a specific car to see whether to activate bluetooth - I'm not sure if this could be made to work in a similar way to WiFi?

Thanks again for all your work.

First: thank you.
I am trying it on my xda Flame.
It detects cells, but I have just one cell now. I will pay attention to the limit of 8.
It does not start bluetooth or wifi or does not change the ringtone. Even if I stop and start again Wifilocation.
I have tried the option to start an application. I have selected one using the ... button. An ok appears in the input box. I tick the option and save. Then when I edit again the cell id, the tick is unticked.
And yes, it should be good if the systray icon should be an option.

Hi snempaa,

Great work! I tested it on the Himalaya but it didn"t work, though I didn't expect it would because of our specific Ril.DLL (Google Maps/My Location doesn't work on ours either due to the need for it to read CellID). I did have a thought though:

I was previously going to design a program like this that would send a "My Text" message once it read the correct CellID. There are lots of uses for it:

1) You could send an SMS home automatically letting people know you are close to home, so dinner is ready when you get there! lol.

2) If you are into home automation like me, you can send an SMS home that would automatically begin devices (switch TV on, aircon or heater on, and boil water for coffee, lol)

Just a thought...Cheers!

This is a great program. Is there anyway that you can create a future version that will also work for CDMA phones such as my Sprint Mogul (HTC PPC6800) running on wm6.1?

I really like to use Skype voip on my PDA when I am working in my lab because Sprint does not have indoor signal there, so I am forced to put the phone on the roaming only mode. However, Sprint will terminate my contract if I roam too much, and unfortunately, Sprint does not have the free wifi calls like T-Mobile.

My PDA does have a physical toggle switch to turn on the wifi, but the wifi goes to sleep when my phone's screen turns off and the phone goes into stand by. If the wifi is off, people cannot reach me through Skype. There is no way for me to force the wifi to not go into sleep when the phone's screen goes off, so I was hoping this WifiLocations would not only turn on the wifi but also prevent the wifi from going to sleep when the phone's screen goes off.

Can you help me out here? Thank you

Nice app! But on Samsung SGH i780 it doesn't switch Ringer mode at least :( I tihnk this issue related to not updating cell-id in mainform.

I have tried to switch off the ringer at some place. Have tried both default 60 sec interval and 20 sec: no changes after this interval passed when WifiLocations v0.6 is running in background (Start and Hide). No problem if it runs once: works okay with determinimg Cell-ID and switching features on/off.

it will be very useful to have an option to return Ringer settings to previous state after leaving Cell ID, similar to "Close Application on Cell-exit".

Hello, i began to use this software cause i was interested in location based profiling. It is good for what i could learn, but i would like one or two feature more if it is possible:

1) Cell grouping, or the ability to group some cells to behave as one (and maybe also a cell can stay inside more group would be perfect)
2) Default settings, if a cell is unknown default settings are applyed.
3) Operator settings: i don't know if from a cell u can recognize the operator. If so would be good to give special settings and default settings.

I noticed the program last version is 8 months old. So if its developing has stopped i would like to continue it, if it is a language that i know.

I came here looking for a program just like this. I'm happy to see it under development here.

I would also request GPS coordinate support (CDMA user here). It would also allow me to mine POI databases to add additional locations, like turn off ringer while in a theater.

Additionally I think being able to specify a radius (area) around the coordinate would be useful.

Hi snempaa,
do you think you can provide it with bluetooth support as well?

Just turn bluetooth on or off!

My hands-free in the car is connecting by bluetooth! so it would be good if the tool turns on my bluetooth if I leave my house.

Thanks and Cheers

DD

But it would shut off your bluetooth when you left the area (out of the cell site range)

Unless you had a "reverse on/off behavior" switch of some sort in settings..which would make it "leave bluetooth on everywhere EXCEPT these id's...."

I've read several posts that came close to what I'm thinking after seeing these three pieces of conversation. But I didn't notice anyone suggesting it after 14 pages.

Is there anyway for the software to detect the presence of an already paired BT device rather then the cell tower? For instance, since a headset or the bluetooth device in a car is already paired, it tends to broadcast a signal when it's turned on. If the software could detect that signal and activate bluetooth at that point, you wouldn't have to worry about cell towers on a 300 mile trip and possibly losing your BT connection.

Anyway, great piece of software, look forward to a CDMA resolution.

I have HTC Alltel CDMA phone , so how can i use this application in my CDMA mobile, because it is unable to detect cell id.... pls tell me...?

What a shame.

I can't use this brilliant app because of its unacceptable system tray icon on the today screen - which ruins my today screen which is the dominant part of my phone experience (and for most other people)!

I found no way of properly hiding the systray from home screen (TrayDisplay (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=248968) does NOT work on WM6.5 and probaby WM6 too) - the only way is for it to be removed from WifiLocations!

Works well but my problem is that I would like to turn WiFi on where there is no cell available. My house has a very poor coverage. Is it possible to use WifiLocation in such a situation and how?

Very cool app would love to see it for the verizon network. I think I have a web site that would help but cannot post since I have not been verified. If you would like me to provide info please let me know.

Any chance of updating this and getting rid of the horrible systray icon??? :(

please remove the tray icon.

Hi,

Just a quick note for anyone still struggling with the 'WiFi on in sleep mode' setting - from my own personal experience on an HTC HD2, it seems as if this setting has no effect whichever way you set it in version 0.6, but if you are testing it, you should be aware of two other settings which might be affecting your device, and stopping it from working the way you expect.

The first is that if you have a 'push' email account enabled (e.g. Exchange ActiveSync, Gmail, Windows Live, set to receive 'As items arrive'), then the WiFi will *never* switch off in standby, no matter what you setting you have in WifiLocations, as described in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7830517&postcount=29
If you want Wifi to switch off in sleep mode by default, you'll need to set the sync schedule to 'Every x minutes' or 'Manually' to get it to work - this may be the reason why a lot of people are struggling. (Don't worry about the other setting mentioned in the post above, unless you are interested in your device never going into full standby).

The other thing you should be aware of is that there is a registry option set by default which means that when you put the device into standby with Wifi enabled, the HTC will wait for a further 30 seconds or so after you pressed the standby button before *actually* switching the WiFi off- this is called 'SuspendOffDelayInterval' and is described in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8414771&postcount=31
This means if you are testing the device to see if the setting in WifiLocations has worked, you should always wait for at least 30 seconds after putting the device into standby for the wireless connection to be switched off, as otherwise you will hit into this 'grace' period and the wireless will still be on anyway. Again, I wonder if this might be the reason why some people think that WifiLocations is keeping their wireless on, whereas in fact they are just not waiting long enough.

I hope this helps, and would like to see a new version of Wifilocations released soon, as it's a great little app!

Kind regards,
Chris Hill

it seems that this app is no more under development. if you want and also can use CHT, then you can use CHTS + CHTSLoco. (link in my signature). It can do the things also as well not only for cell, also more exact with using Wifi if necessary and for gsm & cdma.
