HTC Touch - Newbie - Help

Hi guys,

Welcome me to the family of HTC and WinMO. I bought HTC Touch yesterday and felt I am on the top of the world. It is purely exhilarating. The features, touch screen, touch flo, awesome. This is my first WinMO and Touchy.

I need some clarifications,

1. How should I bring the big digital clock in my desktop. Now I have a normal clock with hands. I tapped on it and holded for few secs, I then get the clock settings but no where can see the digital clock makeover.(Googled and tried).
I also tried to go to Start > Settings > Today > Items, removed TouchGlo and enabled HTCHome, stil same, enabled both, stil same and vice versa, stil same.
Please help me out in getting the digital clock.
2. I connected my HTC to my laptop in order to transfer music and wallpapers. But I need everything to be transferred to the card and not to the Phone. But I dunno where to put all the files in the card since it is not having any defined folders for music, pics.

Should I put it just in the card or should I create separate folders?

3. One step further, I always mod my mobile, like I do for my Sony. Heard the same thing is possible in WinMO too. Can any1 point me to a tutorial so I can cook my HTC too the extreme??

What device do you have specifically - HTC Touch Elf or Vogue
1. I have checked my settings on HTC touch Elfin and could not find how to change to Analogue clock - Mine is already digital - Perhaps check out HHC - HTC Home customizer which is available for free on this site
2. I created a seperate folder for music and movies on my storage card and just manually transfer them over to the folder on my storage card either through active sinc or using WIFI or Bluetooth. I havn't tried automatic sincronization of music into music folder - Don't know if you can to the storage card anyways.
3. To point you in the right direction you need to be specific as to which device you actually have. HTC Touch is not specific - Touch Vogue, Elf or Elfin - Or even Touch Diamond - Touch Pro, Touch Dual etc.....the ROM's you will try are device specific and if you flash the wrong ROM you could brick your device

Just install Manilla2D in development and hacking section your phone will rock then they will think you have the Touch Diamond

Cube : just swipe your finger upward from bottom of screen and up then side to side to rotate cube. These instructions should be in your owners manual. I suggest really learning more about your device and how to use it before flashing any ROM's. I suggest you start with other applications (CAB's) to install on your device to customize since most can easily be uninstalled if they don't function properly. Once you have done a lot of reading and understand your device better, then if you wish, you can tackle flashing a new ROM. I personally haven't even flashed a custom ROM yet onto my device, but am starting to get tempted. I havn't done enough reading on it yet to even try or offer any advice in that area

I am not able to bring the CUBE into action!! Is it available in my version of phone??? I am not able to find any word with CUBE in the owners manual too. Should I do the above steps from the Home screen or???

First read and download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418892 so you can give useful info on your device, then spend a few days reading the different elf forums to know what you want and then decide what to do. There's no point calling for help in general, you have to state what is your prob ;).
Based on what you already said if you want the cube DON' T disable touchflo, this is it !!!

Today I went to a mall and looked at a HTC Touch displayed thr for sale..That touch phone had the digital clock in it..out of curiosity I checked the settings, today, items. There was no TouchFLO and only HTCHome was present and selected. But in my version, TouchFLO is selected, I deselected it, selected HTC Home and no display of clock is dsplayed..Is somethin missing in my phone??? blow r the screenshots..

The above version shows what looks to me to be touch flo 2D. If you have a ROM Flashed with Touch FLo 2d then I don't think you will have the cube. Touch Flo for Elf (reg not touch flow 2d is not a home plugin - the settings are found under settings and it is only a box to check on or off. This enables the cube and swiping for regular touch flow. HTC Home Plugin should show a digital clock- some buttons for SMS, EMail, Missed calles, and under those, your home screen button, Weather, Shortcuts and Ringer settings. Depending on which version of HTC Home you have you may also find, Music player controls and Quick dial shortcusts buttons.

The buttons at the bottom of the above picture are your page selection buttons for home, email, pictures, music etc... I havn't installed Touch flo 2d yet on my device, so don't know much about how it runs on the elf, but do know that it can be installed or flashed onto a device VIA custom ROM. THis is what I think you have on your device - therfore no cube or HTC Home Plugin.

If you had read the forums, you would have noticed that your configuration is what everyone wants and the cube is being deactivated (taking too much mem and few applications). Anyway if you like the big clock you can install Htc Home. You can also try Homescreen plusplus for skins http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350510

I have used the search in this forum and searched your ROM Version and it is infact from what I have read an official WM 6.1 with Touch flo 2d. You do not have the cube sorry to say. You have basically the same thing as the HTC OPAL. If you disable Touch FLo then you might be able to use HTC Home Plugin, but it is not likely already on your device (it wouldn't be stock) so you might want to look into this and download the HTC Home plugin and see if you can get it to run. Once you install it you will go into your today settings and click HTC Home Plugin to run - this will not work if Touch FLo 2d is running. I don't know if you can get the cube installed and working or not. I havn't read anything about it in the forums as most people who are using Touch flo 2d say that the cube is intentionally left out of the mix because it slows the device down terribly with Touch flo 2d. Most prefer touch flo 2d and don't care about the cube. If you want the cube - you will likely have to look into flashing a custom ROM (non touch flo 2d) for your elfin. I strongly suggest doing much reading before attempting to do so as you don't want to brick your device.

I have provided copies of the Cab's for the HTC home plugin which I am using that I have found elsewhere in this forum. Read my post as you might have problems with backlight as well (if it even works on your device) - If it doesn't work - I can't help you - If it messes your device right up - do a soft reset to see if it works and if not then hard reset and that should get rid of it and bring you back to factory default settings. Should be low risk trying it anyways. (Hard Reset will delete everything on your device you have put on - so you will may want to back up some of your files

^^I searched and found a thread which had the HTC home plugin cab..I d/l and installed and nothin changed..I have got the same with addl. IE icon on the top..stil no digitsl clock..Is ther any spl instructions to d/l the plugin you have directed..or just run the cab file???

You should only have to send the cab to your device. On your device, click it to install. Once installed go Start - settings - today and click the Items tab at bottom - Find HTC home and click the box there - Uncheck everything else for now and then add what you want after. Just to check that it is working. You might have to do a soft reset after installing it though. If it isn't working with a soft reset and by folowing the steps I have listed, then it's probably not compatable

Now my other queries..is the time shown only in white or it shows in black too..I think I can now use the HTCHome Customizer and customize to my needs..am I right???

What abt my other query?? Is the sms tone changeable to mp3 tunes???

Don't think you can change sms tones (havn't tried) If you can - you will want to make sure you are using a shortened version of MP3 song as it will probably want to play the whole song every time you get a new SMS message, or EMAIL if you can change that to MP3 etc... but Ring tones you can

^^where exactly the message tones reside??? I hv a bunch a smaller mp3 stored in My Ringtones, which gets populated when I want to change the ringtone..but the same doesnt populate when I want to change the sms tones..

Start - Settings, sound and Notifications - click bottom box Notifications to change your notification sounds, but don't know how to add other notification sounds or mp3's to this list. I havn't tried myself, but it must be possible somehow, Sorry I can't help with this one.

OK I tried a few things and found a way to do it believe it or not. go to your file explorer and place your mp3's you want to use in your device's My Documents folder. Just place them there and then go to sound and notifications and choose what you want. It should appear in the list once you do this. It did for me. cool. I have something new for my device now too.

click on 4shared - thanks to nhatt ( blue ) you should get a folder i think update and then should get some files that are numbered 1-8 ( i think ) and a file that says Manilla 2 test.

if you put those files are your storage card in a folder and then using explorer to install them through the phone start with number 1 and go down till dune and Manilla 2D should be the last thing to install.

you may want to get Resco explorer installed to edit items also.

Could be different for your device I guess. I suggest exploring using file explorer and see if you can figure out where to put your MP3's for this purpose. Play around with it, Try different locations - Folders etc... until you find which one works for you.

Also - You already have Touch flo 2d - which is basically the same as Manilla 2d. The Manilla 2d is for people who don't have Touch flo 2d already on their devices. You still might be interested though in flashing a custom ROM with Manilla 2d to achieve a special look or for functionality if you are not happy with the Touch Flo 2d you already have or if you don't want touch flo 2d or manilla 2d at all, look into other Elfin ROM's (non Touch flo 2d or Manilla 2d) to have the look with HTC home and other plugin's which you can install and possibly CUBE which you said you wanted. Personally, I love my set up with Ultimate Launch much more then Manilla 2d or Touch flo 2d and use of my CUBE. Just my personal preference though.

Ultimate Launch is another plugin. This one is cool though because it is the main plugin used on my device. It is very customizable and you create pages with it and on each page, you add other plugins or apps or shortcuts etc...

This video does not give the app justice though - It is very customizable and easy to use - Mine is set up with IPHone Icons and I have five pages - First page is shortcuts, Second Page is the HTC Home plugin, Third page is my calander and Agenda (plugins I downloaded from XDA site, fourth page is Weather using Weather Panel Plugin (on XDA as well with animated weather icons by Rumball), fifth page is music shortcuts, My Internet radio stations, Music players, video players, Podcasts etc... (All with IPhone Style icons. ) pages turn like cube when swipe with finger or slide when I press corresponding buttons I had set up at bottom of screen for each page) You can read more about Ultimate Launch here

It is worth purchasing though in my opinion - My favorite app on my device - makes my device completely unique
You can also check out throttle launcher on XDA Dev - Very similar but free. I preferr ultimate Launch though as Throttle Launcher was not very good at the time when I was first playing around with customizing my phone. Throttle Launcher has come a long way though and seems to be pretty good now also - Check it out

I don't know if you can get the original cube on your device, someone else will have to help with that, but some of these from the above links might work and should do the trick. Read through them to find out how to install and what you might need to get them to work.

Yes your problem is likely because of installing HTC home Customizer. Just open HHC again - Go to options Tab and you should see select Music Player - Make Sure you select Audio Manager It for some reason defaults to WM player

I don't think that I will be able to help you with that one, Sorry; (It could be that the Audio Player is linked with Touch flo 2d and only works with touch flo 2d on your device; however,there are many better music programs available for WM Devices, I don't even use Audio Manager on my device at all. Using HHC you can Set WM Player for HTC Home and find some custom WM Player Skins online to make it more finger friendly(they are all free - or should be). Take a look at S2P (Slide 2 Play) by A_C which is available on this site (IPhone like music Player), I also use TCPMP which works really well for Audio and Video on our devices and Mort Player (also many skins available). They all work with A2DP Bluetooth Headphones also. There are many others, but these are all the ones I use on my device and they are all free and really easy to find using Google.

^^the reason I am concerned abt audio manager is, I have bought this mob for a hefty price and if it doesnt work as it is to be..then I am worried..I have already installed TCPMP and use it for audio/video..sometimes I use wmp too.
This issue happened after I installed the WOW audio plugin..It killed my audio and I removed it..from tht day on this issue happened.

WOW audio Plugin - Glad I never tried it - sounds like WOW created a registry change - I am assuming you have completely removed WOW and performed a soft reset - If you did and still it is not working - You could always perform a hard reset - This will revert your device back to factory default settings - You will have to reinstall all the apps you have put on your device though - HTC Home plugin, HHC, TCPMP - All contact will be deleted as well so I recomend backing up as much as you can before doing so.

I have followed this thread, and i have tried to install the home page plugin - but the installtion fails saying it does not have sufficient permissions.

my phone comes with touch2d, and has 7-8 tabs, first being home, then contacts, photos, music, weather etc.

all i want to do is to change the home page so that it looks a bit more stylish.

so i wonder if my phone is a bit different from what is being dicussed here ?

it already has a home page tab in the settings menu ?

Do not try flashing ROM for Elf, Elfin, Vogue, Nike, Opal or any other device to your Jade or you will have big trouble.
