Hello,

This is a program that uses polling to check if tasks have been changed and then posts the changes to the homescreen. Written in managed C# code. We will start the most recent version as v0.0.1 because i have done several changes since the beginning of the project and none of them were documented we will consider this as the base version and will build from there.

---(VERSION 0.0.1.5)---
fixed problem from 0.0.1.4 were it would try to delete a registry key subtree that would not be there because it was the first time running the program.

---(REQUIREMENTS)---
Windows Mobile 6.1 Enabled Smartphone

---(INSTALLATION)---
The One Step Installation
(since im new and don't know how to create a .cab its just an executable)

-unzip the .exe into a directory and execute.(Technically this could be 2 steps but im going to consolidate them into one because they are quite simple.)

---(CURRENTLY KNOWN PROBLEMS)---
Known problems that I am trying to work on.

-There have been accounts of the homescreen locking up with users using NRG Mini Weather.(Not sure if there could be a solution to this so if you have this program there may be possible problems. If you don't experience problems please leave comments.)

-When the selected task is selected and the middle button is pressed it takes the user to the tasks screen and not to the selected task.(Currently it is just executing the tasks.exe programn, but im still working on a way to change this).

I'll update and see what happens.

on Ricky's 1.6 remake of NRG's rom, the 1.5 really freezes everything. I put it on my phone, rebooted, opened file explorer, 1. the icon/Chomeplugin flickers like crazy, 2. the loading pie never disappears 3. when i click home, i can go back to the home screen, and the panel works great, my bug with the # of tasks shown is resolved. When I click edit task, it goes to tasks, 4. but as soon as i do anything (clicking on the tasks themselves, clicking menu button) Tasks freezes. 4. Celetask, file explorer, and Tasks are all frozen.

I'm gonna say that this app or vice versa the ROM are not ready for each other. What Rom you running unknownman? I may go back to Ricky Rom v24, I'm just unhappy with how many problems are in my current one.

[edit] a second reboot yields better results, it doesnt freeze anymore.

Unknownman, thanks so much for your hard work on this application! I will be installing this tomorrow hopefully and I will hopefully find some bugs for you to squash. :)

Also, very noobish question, but when you come out with a new version, do you just run the exe again, or have to uninstall the previous?

As it currently stands when you need to get a new version either reboot your phone or shut down the app by creating a task with the subject line of "shutdown" without the quotes. Ill add that to the instructions when i release a new version.

Things are going great on 0.0.1.5 (?). Quick question though; I use Agenda One to handle tasks and such. Is there a way to allow the tasks panels to link to Agenda One's task creator/manager instead of the default WM task creator/manager?

Another quick question: Does anyone know how to set WM to look beyond "tomorrow" for appointments? It would be nice if we can set how many days in advance to see the upcoming appointments. I used Facade previously, but it doesn't work with the Sliding Panels. Any ideas?

Just a quick note. I have created tasks but once they have been completed, they do not disappear from the panels. Is this still a problem?

Unknownman
5th December 2008, 03:18 AM
Ummm... i dont believe this was ever a problem. If you could please check to see if the ChomePlugin.exe is still running in the processes on your task manager in you phone. Could you also please explain if you are using a third party app for task support or if you have any other 3rd party apps running like NRG. Thanks.

dcoaster
5th December 2008, 09:42 PM
Ahh, yes, that was the problem. The Chome plugin wasn't running. However, when I go to launch ChomePlugin.exe through Resco Explorer, the wheel just spins and doesn't go away. The program still launches because it is working, but I'm not sure if this is supposed to stay like that or not. I don't have NRG loaded. I do use Agenda One for calendar/contacts/tasks, etc.

Another quick thing. When I go into Chome Configurator, it get an invalid operation exception message. Any ideas? Thanks!

8th December 2008, 06:27 AM
Justa quick note. I am getting an error coming up saying "ChomePlugin.exe experienced an error. Plase restart the program." The details are "IndexOutOfRangeException at CHomePlugin.TempTask.CreateTempTask(Page p) at CHomePlugin.Program.run()" Trying to restart it gets the same message.

Unknownman
8th December 2008, 02:52 PM
I will take a look at that... first of all could you tell me the tasks that you currently have shown on your task panel plugin because thats where the error is. And did you use ChomeConfigurator to edit any of the listed panels?

dcoaster
8th December 2008, 11:32 PM
Here is what I had in the tasks section: One that ended today. One that had been completed a week ago. And one that is due 3 days from today. Clearing the one that ended today and the one completed a week ago allowed the program to run now. No program error anymore.

I used Chome Configurator to change the order of the panels but no new ones or changes to the details.

I tried this before when you introduced it in the Excalibur forum. Just tried it again to see how the update works, but it blanks out my homescreen. Wasnt there a companion app that refreshed the home screen?

Unknownman
11th December 2008, 07:28 PM
I am currently going to hault updates on this application untill the new year because im going to learn mobile application development in C++. Shouldn't take me south of a month or two. Then i will be able to update the homescreen like NRG does without refreshing the whole homescreen. Ill keep everyone posted on any updates.

Thanks again for the support.(Even though I didn't collect my money from the people who said they would give $10...j/k)

This application absolutely rocks! As promised, I'd be more than happy to shoot you the $20 USD I promised back in September 2008. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416501&page=3 post #28)

PM me a PayPal address and I'll send it over.

Thanks Again!

I apologize for the lateness of my postings, I have been busy a lot lately with school. Progress is underway for a new version, including the ability to update the panel and not the whole home screen, allow changes made to the POOM be broadcasted across ALL API's and not just local native code. Please stay posted, I should be able to keep things updated a little more frequently. Thanks!

What panel does this use? I have my .cpr edited in size, so some of the text is extending out.

Also when a task is due in 1 day it says "Due in 1 Days" .

This is a CAB file. I put in on my phone (on the storage card) and then executed the file using the file explorer and then it installed on the phone. Other than the occasional refresh issue...this works really well. I am hoping unknownman will find to to perfect this application.

Hope this helps.

I installed the version 0.0.1 zip file and the tasks show up great - was so thrilled. But the task does not disappear after it has passed or even when I have deleted it out of my tasks. Anyway of fixing that?

The tasks program seems to shut off at random times or when you restart your phone. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Paralegal99
20th March 2009, 12:16 PM
You can refresh the panel by using your phone's file explorer and going to where you stored the add-on and activate or "click" on ChomePlugin and that will update the panel.
Hope this helps.

Woah, holly cow i have been busy. Sorry guys for not posting anything lately. I am working with my brother on C+ version of this but because time is limited i have hardly made any progress. I will try to keep up with updates and i have noticed the buggyness of anything past version .0.0.0.9 so i would suggest reverting back to that version because it is more stable. As i stated i will try to keep updates coming :) thanks for the support!

hey unknownman,
Since 6.5 sliding panels came out for ppc, there's been some new finds for creating panels that can be easily updated in real time by just toggling a reg key. Its using the GUID from the HTC 6.1 smartphone panels. I can post a sample reg of need entries, but you can set any layout for any page of panel. You can make it read all images and texts that you want to add directly from reg too by just editing the cpr file. Since its using the htc panels that came from 6.1, there's no reason I know of that it can't work here. It also doesn't have bugginess of ctestuiplugin and is more customizable to. There's been new weather (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481379), contacts (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506221), and a few others that aren't really anything new as for as design. I'm posting because there's been request for tasks app over there and I knew you made this one last year that worked pretty well. There's a few panel reg entries different from 6.1 to 6.5 panels, along with new cpr name, but otherwise is basically the same. There's also a plugin installer setup.dl that will take care of 6.5 install(writes panel to cpr and registry) if your interested in making it compatible for both. PM me if your interested in new panel details either way.

Just wanna say that the current version 0.0.1.5 seems to work fine on my Samsung i617 with no other conflicting apps (I've just installed it, less than 10 mins, and tried completing one task which then refresh the home screen). Thanks Unknownman, this is really something that MS should've made available in the Smartphone.

Can someone please tell me how to remove this app from the home screen.

I like the concept of this app and will monitor it's progress but I've found that having to run the app each time to refresh the home screen, I may as well just open Tasks. Once this has the live feature added it will be completely awesome.

In the meantime I want to remove it but because it does not have an installer it does not show up in remove programs and simply deleting the .exe file and rebooting does not remove the slide from the home screen. So how do I completely remove it?

I think you just have to remove the scheduler entry using a program like sktools. It been awhile since I've used this program and I have done a few Hard Resets since then.

As far as I'm aware this app's development has ceased to exist. I pm'd unknownman for his source code awhile back but he never responded. I would keep pushing for the source code, but I'm waiting on a new shiny TP2 (hint, hint, at&t) and have settled for just opening up the tasks program.

Yes I am aware of that page. What I wanted was him to send me all the files by email. I don't care to have to download them one by one and then reorganizing them. If there is a way to download the whole directory from that site let me know, because I haven't been able to find it.

i believe this error occur when there are more than 2 active tasks. the plugin will crash when it refresh with more than 2 active task.
