Showing BT earphone icon status on today screen

At the moment, I can be sure my BT earphone device is connected to my Treo Pro only from dialer screen.
Is there a way, like Symbian OS, to show the BT earphone icon on the Today screen? If it were possible, I would like to have a popup or something notifying the connection status of the device.

AFAIK WM pro (std shows it I think) doesn't have this for mono bt headsets but they have an icon for A2DP headsets.
