Mostly to improve performance and stability, also to fix some problems.
All new roms comes with new AKU version, this is something like SP for Windows systems. :)

always read the 1st post or 2 of the rom you are flashing.
all the info you should need is there
this way you won't be back and your next post won't be....

When you are happy with your phone now, don't flash it.
If you have issues, see if a new rom fixes it.

Flashing always has its small or big issues.
When you don't know what flashing is about anyway, why would he bother?

I first flashed a new ROM with ELFin and the speed was mind-blowing, not to mention the extra free space and RAM. For me, it's a must.
Just make sure enough people have downloaded and commented on its reliability and stability as well as the above (i.e. speed, RAM etc).

If you are happy running your stock O2 rom then just keep it that way & maybe just read up on customizing your phone.
Rom flashing on a £400 phone should only really be done if you know what your doing, so if you do decide to flash a custom rom to your phone then you better get busy reading up on the do's & especially the dont's otherwise you could end up with a £400 brick :p
read the wiki's
read the tuts/info/ posts on cid/ sim/ security stuff.
read read then read again is my advice, because it's amazing the amount of people that brick their phones just by pure ignorance.
For me it's a no brainer I like modding anything & everything nm just phones hehehe
Any's good luck on which ever you choose to do ;)

It it works and you are happy with it don't flash. It really all depends if there is any thing in the new rom that you want.
