Hi,
As a lot of people (including myself) have asked about this, I thought I would share this with you as I have finally got it working. This method allows you to watch BBC TV shows, live broadcasts and listen to live BBC radio WITHOUT using Skyfire. All you need to do is spoof websites into thinking your using an HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) by doing the following:
1) Connect your phone via ActiveSync
2) Copy the following file onto your PC:
C:\Windows\Opera9\opera.ini
3) Open the file with Notepad (or any text editor) and look for the following line:
Custom User-Agent=HTC_P3700 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en-GB)
Replace it with this:
Custom User-Agent=HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
4) Save the file and copy it back to your phone, overwriting the original
5) Start Opera and go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/
Important notes:
- The iPlayer will only work in the UK
- The BBC does not allow you to connect via GPRS, 3G or HSDPA so you will need to use WiFi (if anyone knows how to spoof/bypass this check then please let me know!)
- If you get a 'Failed to connect to network' error or it seems to get stuck on 0% buffering, try this:
1) Press the power button to go into standby (this will disconnect your WiFi)
2) Wait two seconds and press the power button again
3) Quickly press the 'Play' icon whilst your WiFi is reconnecting
- Unfortunately, they are using 3gp compression which is rather poor. This is automatically streamed using the HTC Streaming Media app, I have not tried using anything. Catch Up is watchable but live streams are pretty poor.
Enjoy!

less involved process:
blog.artesea.co.uk/2008/11/bbc-iplayer-streaming-on-the-x1-or-even-the-diamond-or-touch-pro.html
you may find rolling back media streamers may help if it doesn't work for you.

Either method appears to work with a slightly older version of media streamer but the video is choppy as if it has to keep catching up even though the stream is fully buffered.

Actually if you change the User agent to:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
The page works quite well, except for it states that "programmes can only be accessed over wifi connection". Was using Wifi connection lol
I'm sure someone else will be able to solve the final part of this puzzle :)

Maybe you had an active 3G/HSDPA connection, you could try to terminate the data connection on Comm Manager first and give it another go.
As ericsson68 mentioned, there are problems with certain versions of the HTC Streaming Media app, I always need to power off then on again and press play for it to work (but at least it does!). If I find a good version of I will post the cab or link here shortly.

hi guys,

It doesn't work on either 3.3 or 3.4 of Dutty I found. Roll back your streaming mediaplayer with the one in Dutty's file store and it seems to but the video is choppy and so the sound keeps speeding up or skipping to compensate.
The BBC need to get off this fashionable Beta train and release stuff only when it's ready and not in bit parts across systems. We all pay our licence fee!
Beta on here yes but endless beta from a multi-million pound corporation funded by public money? I think not.
I got out the wrong side of bed maybe.

Using uk vodafone TouchPro with Omnia user agent I get choppy performance. Changing wifi settings doesn't make a difference. live TV works better but is poor quality.
Rather a pity really. I guess that the Stream and the media player dont get on. Anyone had any luck with the Touch HD version of the player?

Useing the user agent provided in the first post didnt work for me as I said in my previouse post. But when I change it to the iphone user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en)
I can access the BBC iPlayer page. I also noticed when I got the error from BBC, it said that only the N96, iPhone and iPod touch were allowed to access the mobile version of iPlayer.
Useing the iPhone user gent gave me other advantages anyway, such as when I go to Facebook, it now takes me to the iphone face book. Same with youtube ect.
So maybe useing the iPhone user agent would be a better idea.

Didn't you find using the iphone User agent made your browser a little slow though? As it did for me, so I changed it back, am looking for User agent for N96 as N96 can use iplayer as well.

No, works perfectly fine, no problems at all. I am using Opera. N96 User Agent is:
Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN96/10.0.018; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

The N96 User agent require you to download a widget app, so I presume that's a no go for the diamond.

Weird, on my diamond it says this.
"Sorry, this phone does not support iplayer"
"Is only avail. on Nokia N96, iPhone and iPod Touch"

I've got a Tytn, I have got it going into the iPlayer pages, but when I press play it opens media player and says "cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play"
How do I get this sorted?
