Hi there, im fairly new to my Telus Diamond, i love this phone but its giving me some grief with the Touchflo3d being laggy etc...
Anyways I heard you can flash new ROMS that are custom and more stable and help out the phones performance a lot but i have a few questions before I flash.

Here's my phones specs before i ask my questions.

ROM Version: 1.06.661.1 (old i believe)
ROM Date: 07/21/08
Radio Version: 0.99.90v
Hardware Version 0080
and i dont think the rest is important.
And im usuing WM 6.1

ok now here are my questions:

1) If I flash to a cooked ROM, i heard it Erases EVERYTHING, so with that in mind, im a telus customer, does it effect my service plan, ex: can i still use my phone like i bought it and make txt msgs, emails, msn, phone calls etc.. or do i have to set it back up again?

2) Do i have to use the same Radio Version?

3) would my Current network number and Cureent Channel be changed? If so how does that effect my phone?

4) umm with my programs that are on my phone, ex: office mobile, WMP, MP3 trimmer remote desktop etc... will i still have those? Or will i loose the registration for them.
5) this is my last question i believe, would I have to dump my current stock ROM for a backup? Like is that recommended or is there a backup of my ROM already on this website.

I appreciate any help, and sorry for being such a noob. The only thing i've flashed before was a custom firmware on my PSP lol and that was reallly easy...

1)Yes it erases everything the easiest way to explain it is like this: "rom" stands for read only memory.... kind of like a cd rom. And the outcome is the same also, when you flash a new rom it is like writing a new cd image.

2) no you don't have to use the same radio version, but some roms will require certai n radios (most roms come packed with radios though so you shouldn't have to mess with it)
3) Flashing a new rom changes your phone but not your network (your number would still be the same)
4)You will lose anything you installed unless you back it up. Depending in the rom, office mobile and stuff like that might be preloaded.
5) There should be a backup on the website, a dump should not be necessary.

Again on the backup thing you will want to back up are your contacts sms emails ect anything you want to keep before flashing.

Flashing isn't hard, you just need to read the directions MAKE SURE YOU READ BEFORE YOU FLASH. like i said it isn't hard but if you don't read everything before you flash you may turn your phone into a very expensive paper weight.

Alright sweet thank you very much :)
Im not going to upgrade just yet though because i still want to learn more
about it and im iffy about it mainly cuz i still want to be able to make phone calls lol and i dont see anyone posting anything for the telus versions. :(
Oh and one more thing before I upgrade the ROM do i have to upgrade the HardSPL first? or can i just use the CID lock, then the ROM?

no, you defenetly would want to cid unlock first, otherwise you will trash your bootloader and brick your phone :)

One more thing lol sorry...
Um that link you sent me for the steps
"[TUT]Complete upgrading guide (HardSPL+Radio+ROM) NOT FOR CDMA USERS!!!"

Well i dont know what CDMA means but Im pretty sure im a CMDA user. So is it safe to still fallow those directions? or must i need to do something different.

is it alright if my Diamond says DIAM500? on all the guides they say DIAM100, when you check the SPL, mine is stock and in the tri colored screen it says:

Security Unlocked

DIAM500 <------ (Do i have to find a ROM specific for this modle?)
SPL-0.57.0000 <------ (I dont see this ver. on the forums anywheres)
MircoP-Diam (LED) vB
PSOC-Diam STAGE_EVT v20

Serial
(its blank)

I didnt run any CID unlockers or anything, any insight?

Dang Telus...
