Dear forum members,

This is the new Mio A701 FRENCH WM6.1 CEOS 5.2.19212 Build 19212.1.0.3 Mobile Vista 1.00 Premium Rom.

It is a world wide first for Mio A701 and i hope more languages to be launched soon.

The CE image is based on the Official WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.19212 ( Build 19212.1.0.3 ).

It was a tremendous work and you will best support me if you download from the provided links.

I hope this soft step to be a hard lesson for Mitac, its after sales policy and development services.

The specific details of this rom are as follows:

< Start Menu > function is provided the world wide first (wwf) in A701 to the bottom left hardware key ( under phone key ).

< TomTom Navigator > function is provided to the bottom right hardware key ( under power key ).

<French WkTask > function is provided to the top right of navigation bar.

Cyberon Voice Speed Dial is ported and is rom embedded.

The A701 icon is enabled when you synchronize in Windows Vista as well as the folder Mio A701 of synchronization.

PremiumVista.tsk and phone dealer have been redesigned in the cool blue colors of this Mobile Vista Premium edition.

The versions of the applications included inside the rom are as follows:

1. Data Backup : 3.10 (Build 21366) of High Tech Computer Corp.

2. Windows Live : 10.6.0034.0800

3. Windows Media Player : 10.3 Build 19212

4. Office Mobile : 6.1

5. Task manager : 2.9

6. Total Commander (French): 2.5

7. WiFi scanner : 1.5

8. WkTask (French) : 1.2.0.0

C. Instructions to successfully flash the rom CE image

Here bellow are the instructions to successfully flash it.

Unzip the downloaded file:

Mio_A701_WWE_WM6.1_CEOS_5.2.19212_Build_19212.1.0. 3_Mobile_Vista_1.00_Premium_by_ansar.zip

and in the created directory you will have the following:

1. This readme.txt file

2. The VistaLibFRE19212 directory with the subdirectories:

a. CabACarteDeStockageProgramFiles, that include:

- LiveSearch.cab Version 10.6.0034.0800

- VisualGPSce.cab Version 1.2.106

b. CabAWindows, that include:

- ArcsoftMMS.cab Version 4.2.8.1

- Backup.cab (PIM) Version 2.8.0.0

- Navigator.cab Version 6 (TomTom)

- S2U2.cab Version 1.18

c. FichiersAWindows, that include:

- Black_Vista.tsk -

- Mobile_Flare.tsk -

- XCPUScalar.cpl Version 2.96

- XCPUScalar.exe Ditto

- XCPUScalal.lnk Ditto

d. The control xml files:

- SDFileOperation.xml

- SDLinkRemove.xml

- SDRegistry.xml

3. The control text files:

- SDConfigFRE19212MVP1_00.txt

4. The CE image file: Mio_A701_WWE_WM6.1_CEOS_5.2.19212_Build_19212.1.0. 3_Mobile_Vista_1.00_Premium_by_ansar.bin .

Before flashing make a backup of your files in Storage Card using the Data Backup Program from my previous roms or your favorite backup.

In case you do not have a backup application install the Backup.cab (is PIMBuckup) found in VistaLibFRE19212MVP1_00 directory.

After PIMBackup installation perform your data backup in your Storage card.

Select SDConfigFRE19212MVP1_00.txt and rename it to SDConfig.txt .

Place the VistaLibFRE19212MVP1_00 directory and SDConfig.txt a la Carte de stockage and Power off.

Place Mio_A701_WWE_WM6.1_CEOS_5.2.19212_Build_19212.1.0. 3_Mobile_Vista_1.00_Premium_by_ansar.bin

in a directory of your desktop or Portable PC and proceed as follows:

a. Set your Mio A701 in boot loader mode by holding down Volume Up + Navi down + reset buttons and

After 4 seconds (for me is ok in 0) release Volume Up + Navi down first and then release the reset button.

In the ScoterUT Rxx Magneto screen menu select FlashROM Upgrade and press Navi center button.

In the next FlashROM Upgrade screen menu select the CE img by USB option.

b. Connect your Mio A701 to your desktop or portable PC with Activesync 4.5 setting: Allow USB connections not checked.

Note: It is difficult to flash in a Vista OS on desktop or Portable PC.

I recommend a desktop or Portable PC with XP as maximum.

c. Run ScoterRomUpdate-R01.exe on PC or Portable PC and follow the instructions.

d. After the successful flashing select in Mio A701 exit and Enter deep sleep or Watchdog reset (in UT 55).

Important note: Do not flash in UT51 or you may get into flashing errors.

e. Unplug the USB wire and perform a hard reset by holding down Volume down + power on buttons. (Not required in UT55)

The Rom loading process will perform as follows:

a. Loads all splash screens, performs the welcome screen, displays the initial Today screen and

b. Then loads premiumVista.tsk theme.

The User Customization process initiates as follows:

a. Loads all cabs from internal rom and VistaLibFRE19212MVP1_00.

Note: the majority of cabs are modified by me in order to go to the desired destination.

b. Loads the *.xml files and performs the instructions included in these files.

c. The process will finish after machine's final Reset and final boot.

e. Again Is one of the best roms ever made and during testing i never made a reset.

Note 1: The keyboard layout has options for small and big letters.

It is predefined to initial setup in small letters. In case of big, the CAPs are displayed with double tap on shift key.

Note 2: The key of media player is assigned to Start Menu for better performance.

Pressing once you get Start Menu and pressing again Start Menu is hidden.

Note 3: The navigation key is assigned to TomTom Navigator application.

Note 4: RegEdit (the one part of task manager) and Total Commander in French is assigned in the screen bottom left and right locations.

Note 5: As you already noticed the Premium.tsk theme is redesigned as cool blue.

Note 6: Internet explorer has two new home screens.

The first has help, IE Home, Mio Home and Xda Developers.

If you tap on IE Home the well known IE screen is seen.

When you tap on menu>tools>options you can set the current, IE home as home page.

You can always go back to the first page from menu>tools>options and setting use default.

Note 7: The bottom screen plug-in has five small buttons where from left to right you can have:

- The GPS ephemeris activation

- The memory

- The Bluetooth

- The Icon only for battery charge view. For the settings there is the top bar battery button.

- The screen rotation button.

- In case of XCPUScalar enabling, you have three more as XCPU, Suspend and Reset.

Note 9: Today screen includes Tomtom Navigator that runs without problem from there.

Note10: S2U2 is running automatically i made it bug free.

D. Rom Structure

The Rom Structure is close to WWE and for its details see next post.

E. Important Notes

I use Vista for all rom projects, but Windows Mobile Device Center must be of version 6.1.6965 .

I moved my A701 in official R65 and UT55 and i had no problems with flashing.

Once again i comment that if you flash under UT51 you may have flashing problems.

So do not change from your R65 if there is no good reason for this.

You may have serious problems, even to brick your device, when downgrading to R48.

Till next version enjoy!!!

Regards, ansar

Hi Ansar!

I am very happy to find this Rom! This is exactly the kind of rom I was looking for :)

At the moment I did not have the time to test a lot of things but so far, here are the issues I faced :

-Just after having my device flashed, Windows asks to tap the screen to begin the configuration. As I was busy at work at that moment, the device turned automatically in "stand by mode" by turning the screen off.
I tapped the screen to reactivate it. The screen appears...still asking me to tap it but no reaction from the device when I tapped the screen again...=> Soft Reset and I configured the device directly when asked => Ok

- S2U2 : When I touch the screen to unlock the pda with the scrollbar : My screen goes crazy displaying multicolor lines => Soft Reset or I have to desactivate it at first start with "iLock2" icon.

- Programs/Apps/S2U2 Settings => Blank Screen and Pda Frozen. I need to soft Reset.

- Programs/Apps/S2U2 => My screen goes crazy displaying multicolor lines => Soft Reset

- The second Splash Screen is not ready for Landcape Mode (not a real problem)

- VisualGPSce error message when starting : Could not initialize communication buffer size.

- VisualGPSce is sometimes not lauching (the "waiting Icon" is turning forever or it launch then it freezes) => Soft Reset

- VisualGPSce is sometimes the correct Icon is not even showing, it shows a default application icon => Soft Reset

-GPS: I use IGO8 and it can not find any Gps Device. The Gps device was running on com4 on my previous Rom (Mio official 65 FR)
.
But Maybe I use it the wrong way since Visualgpsce is installed.
Because yesterday, after lauching VisualGpsCe and connected it to Com4, IGO8 finally found my Gps device...

Today it was ok with com 2 and now my IGO8 seems to have disappeared from the system. I mean that the Icon is not in "programs" anymore...

I also have other problems with IGO8 but maybe those problems are not related to this Rom...

May be IGO is not fully compatible with WM 6.1 ? I also have a problem with my Belgium map wich is not recognized (it was working fine in my previous rom). all other maps are correctly recognized by Igo8...Unfortunately...I Live in Belgium lol

If you have questions or tests you want me to do, I am at your disposal :)

Hi,

There is a time limit after boot from a hard reset.

You must go again after a HARD RESET (not a soft reset) and let the device to take all steps up to final reset by itself.

Thanks for commenting and waiting for your next report.

Yesterday I had a phone call and my friend told me that the volume of my voice was low.

I know there is a tweak to boost the microphone level of the phone.
I don't remember how but I have seen it somewhere in another forum.

Hi,

Here is my second report for this rom :

So I re installed the rom correctly last friday.
The automated installation successfully finished and everything was working fine.

:)

I had access to S2U2 settings.
I was able to unlock the phone after a standby.
My Gps software (IGO8) was working fine
The rom was fast.
The bluetooth is working better ! The quality of sound is much better and louder when I connect it to my Sony bluetooth car audio (MEX-BT 3600).
And the best thing is that my Mio can stream my Gps voice or my music to the Bluetooth audio channel (insted of bt phone channel) which means that the phone channel is still free and automatically switch to when I receive a phone call and then, automatically switch back to my gps voice :)
I love the fact that when I close a program it closes for real and not only minimize as before.
Aero Black skin is very nice looking

:(

But unfortunalty...some hours later...my device had again multiple frozen screens due to S2U2. so I had to uninstall it.
Yesterday, my IGO8 software icone was absent again from the program list.
I had to reinstall it (it says it is already installed...) to have the launching icon again.
The only negative thing with bluetooth is that the voice of my Gps is cut from times to times...the voice seems to struggle...it sounds like there is no cpu or memory ressources enough to speak and brodcast to bluetooth (I dont have the problem when listening to mio external speaker).
It is like : Turn le le leeef...fft, then follow the st st strreee...t for 20 meterss...sss.. (I am exagerating a bit)
I did not have this problem before when I was using the little program "BTAudioToggle" to stream all the sounds from mio to a BT device

The rest is working fine.

Questions  :

Where do I have to put Tomtom maps to be able to use it ?
What Tomtom version is it ?

Again, thanks for your good job ansar!

Hi,

I usually do not change S2U2 settings and never had problem. What specific settings did you apply ?

I did not test iGo yet but after today or next day finishing with the German rom i will.

Is your iGO working from Carte de stockage or Storage card ? Can you see with Total cmd if there is Storage card folder in your device ?

When you install iGO do not change manually the shortcut from the location the cab installed it.

If you want another shortcut make a copy with total cmd from the installed one to the desired location, do not move it.

Delays in GPS may result when covering or signal is not so good.

TomTom is verion 6 and i have maps, let's say Roma, in Carte de stockage\My Documents\Roma. It shouild be found automatically.

Waiting for more report, thanks for commenting and supporting.

Hi,

Yesterday, the device freezed while using Gps.
I wanted to do a soft reset and when the device rebooted I had this message :

Updating...

Don't remove your SD/MMC Card
Image not found.
Press any key to continue...

Pressing any key did not exit this message.
I had to do a hard reset because each time I did a soft reset after this message, The screen was not tactile anymore.

Later, at home I had the same problem after a standby...

Hi Ansar,

Thanks for replying :)

- I did not change any settings in S2U2. I just tested if I was able to enter settings as it crashed the last time I tried (with the bad installation). Now I have uninstalled S2U2 to see if I have more stability.

- Yes, Igo8 is working from my "Carte de Stockage" I hage an IGO8 folder on it + a 2577 folder with autorun.

- I did not move the IGO Shortcut. I use the original shortcut created after installation.

- I just saw an empty Tomtom folder in stockage\My Documents so I will put a map inside and see if it detects it.

At the moment, the real problem is te "updating" message after a crash because I am always scared when I see such a message. (see message posted just before). Any Idea ?

Best Regards,

Mystral

- I just saw an empty Tomtom folder in stockage\My Documents so I will put a map inside and see if it detects it.

At the moment, the real problem is te "updating" message after a crash because I am always scared when I see such a message. (see message posted just before). Any Idea ?

Best Regards,

Mystral

Hi,

Take care of your Carte de stockage, check if you left 2577 unchanged.

After autorun you should rename 2577 to say 2577_ in order not to be detected.

TomTom directory must have TTToday.dll, did you manually changed the SDConfig.txt in order to avoid TomTom installation ?

Is better to create the folder with the map name say Roma in Carte de stockage\My Documents\Roma

Thanks again for commenting and supporting.

- Folder 2577 was unchanged.
I can rename it as you said but I need it when the application disappear in order to reinstall the software...
- I have a Tomtom folder in the device root with TTToday.dll inside.
- I have another empty Tomtom folder under "Device/My Documents"
- I did not change the SDconfig.txt
- If I create "Carte de Stockage/My Documents/" and put my Benelux Map inside, Tomtom does not detect it. Is says "no map found". I suppose that he looks to a folder in the device and not on my storage card...

Anyway, I will continue to use IGO8.

Is there a way to uninstall tomtom from this rom ?
Do you have an idea for my previous post ? (updating error message after a freeze)

Thanks :)

Hi,

It looks like TomTom is well installed.

If you do not have Roma you can download it from a previous rom say Mobile Vista 2.00 .

Install Roma in Carte de stockage\My Documents\Roma. This is a must in order for TomTom to initialize, and then copy your own maps in Carte de stockage\My Documents.

An alternative is to install your maps but also need the software and licence to install them.

You can uninstall TomTom from Start\System\Remove programs (use the equivalent in French) and remove Ansar Navigator.

Updating error is probably due to unchanged 2577 folder.

Remove previous application, i.e. iGO, from Start\System\Remove programs.

Then Reinstall it with your Autorun or direct main.cab ( or any way) in 2577 but after installation rename 2577 to 2577_old.

By the way i installed iGo plus 2006 in the almost finished German rom and i do not have yet an issue.

I think you are close to recover everything and thanks and waiting for your valuable contribution.

Cool!

Thanks again for you information Ansar.

So finally, I prefered to remove TomTom and reinstall IGO8 as you said because I prefer this software.
I will use the device as much as I can in the following days to see if everything is Ok.
Of course, I will keep you informed.

Thanks!!!

Hi again Ansar,

So here is my latest feedback.

After some days using the rom, I faced the same 2 issues.

- iGO8 Shortcut is suddently missing everywhere but ok if I lauch it from /program files.

- When I soft reset the device, it trys to update it with SD /MMC Card but fails. (and the 2577 folder is renamed to 2577_old)

So I came to that conclusion :

- Maybe my iGO8 version is not stable on WM6.1. (but this version was stable on the original mio rom and this is not an old iGO version).
=> If you agree, I can provide you my iGo8 version so you can test it and see if you experience the same problem. I have already uploaded it to rapidshare.com and I can send you the link by private message.

- I never removed the "VistaLibFRE19212MVP1_00" folder and SDconfig.txt from my Storage Card after installation. Do you think this is related to the "updating" message after soft reset ?

Anyway, those problems are not bloking me too much as I have a workaround.
I enjoy your rom even with those little issues.
Thanks for giving a second life to my Mio A701 :p

Hi,

VistaLibFRE19212MVP1_00 folder is invoked only after a hard reset.

After WM6.1 for French and German i work for Italian and the rest languages and i am a litle bit busy ...

If you have time make a test with the German rom and see if there is any difference with your software.

I may upload WM6.1 with iGO 6 plus but it will be ok if you can pm a link with yours.

Thanks again for your valuable testing and reporting.

By the way i am close to introduce a total new XIP for A701 with the inclusion of the ever missing hd.dll and osaxst0.dll (mio and its 592ppc friends not in position ever).

Hi Ansar and Happy new Rom :p

I was unable to test the rom recently as I had broken my lcd screen.
Now I have replaced it and can use again my device :)

So, here is my feedback:

IGO8:

- I have updated my version and one problem seems solved : My "IGO8" shortcut never disapeared again!
- Sometime it fails to start saying another instance is already running...
- Recently, I ran "out of memory" while using IGO8 and the voice is still cut while speaking.

I found out why on another forum :

It is highly recommended that you run these TTS packages on devices with at least 128MB of RAM! On device with 64MB RAM or less the voice might stutter, and application may crash with "out of memory" message on your screen. Please bear this in mind!

So using IGO8 with all the nice options turned on is certainly too heavy for the system specifications of a MIO A701. (even if it barely meets the minimal requirements for IGO8)

SYSTEM:

- I still have this message after a soft reset :
Updating with SD/MMC card...don't remove it => Updating failed, press any key to continue.

This is not a real problem as it boots correctly after after pressing any key.
So I can live with that.

Anyway, I think it's a good rom and I recommend it and I would love if some other people can share their experience with this rom :)

By the way, I am looking to buy a Tytn II device so maybe I will test other roms from you. I will let you know if I buy one.

Thanks for your work ansar!

Hi,

This rom is only a CE Microsoft image, MSFLSH50 format, and has nothing to do with the bootloader.

In order to access the bootloader we hold the Volume down plus the Navigation down (cirlce) keys and then we press and hold the Soft Reset key.

Holding all three keys, after some seconds the bootloader is invoked or we just trigger, unhold and then hold down again, the navi key.

Test your device keys separately i.e. the Vol down, the Navi down and Soft Reset keys to see if they work properly.

I use the same device for all the new 6.1 roms i.e. WWE, FRE, GER, ITA as well as the under development NLD and SPA without problem.

Hi,

I am waiting for the tests in this rom too, in order the future CEOS 5.2.21109 to be even better.
