View Full Version : Google Maps says I'm in the Atlantic Ocean near Nigeria?

Lately (within the last couple of months) when I use Google Maps with GPS it says I am out in the Atlantic Ocean right on the equator just south west of Nigeria. It will continue to say that forever unless I am moving in which case it will fix itself after a few minutes.

This is really annoying if I'm trying to pull up some directions real quick, sure it fixes itself eventually as long as I'm moving but it makes it so I have to wait longer to get my directions (and if I'm parked it won't work and I have to drive around a bit to fix it).

Anyone else have this problem? I didn't have it up until about a month or two ago. I'm not sure if the change has to do with a new Google Maps version or ROM change. I don't have this problem with TomTom (although TomTom also doesn't seem to work indoors).

Any help appreciated :)

Whenever i got that problem a restart fixed it. It usually occurred at my work building, cause i got literally NO signal inside the place. I also have had that problem since it was updated to the newer versions.

I've got the same problem with google maps not being able to pinpoint my location using gps at home. It shows a place that's like 20 miles away. It does fix it eventually if I move around a bit so I thought it might just be signal issues.

Sometimes, it gets 0,0 (lat, long) right on boot. Wait a while, then turn GPS off and on to recenter around the right location.

While you're there, could you look up this prince that has $28 million for me? He wants my bank account information, but I figured since you were there you could just pick it up for me...

(sorry, saw the thread title and couldn't resist... it's Friday...)
