HTC Touch updating question for the pros

OK I was sent here from another forum, because apparently their HTC Touch devices are CDMA and mine is GSM... I also want to say that I am a major n00b, so please forgive my ignorance if my questions are lame!

So, I scored an HTC touch, but it was made for the french market... it is already unlocked and all, and my AT&T sim works fine, but the problem is that the ROM is old and in french... when I try to download the latest ROM from HTC's website (for the HTC Touch GSM), my serial number won't allow the download... it says the download is not appropriate for my device... I just got off the phone with HTC customer service and the guy had no idea either and recommended I ask online, so here I am!

I am trying to get the latest english Windows Mobile (6.1) loaded on this device... any advice is welcome!
Hopefully there are some gurus around here that can point me in the right direction!
