View Full Version : XDA Ignito 2000mAh extended battery with cover

I have just bought a new 2000mAh battery with a cover that fits the Ignito from ebay (from Gps4Less, I found out they have a website too) and so far I am very impressed. The quality of the cover is ok, much better than the ones for the Diamond arriving from China. It came from the UK so I did not have to wait long for it either. I charged the battery and after about 8 hours it is still at 96%. I have attached some pictures so you can see how it looks. There is no effect on the GPS performance, I got a GPS fix with this battery inside the house in about 30 seconds after starting Tomtom. The price was good about £16 including delivery, just do a search on ebay for 2000mAh battery for Ignito and you'll surely find it. I have been waiting for this one for a long time. I will keep you updated with the battery performance over the next few days. The only problem I have now is to find a suitable case for it, but it will probably make the phone even bigger. I guess the Invisible Shield might be a better option. So far they only have it for Diamond, not the Ignito, but I might give it a try. Now I won't fear of running out of power while listening to Internet Radio on my way to and from Uni :)

I will never understand why people get a SLEEK phone like the Diamond and stick in a FATASS battery and mess up the fantastic dimension of the phone...

You don't always have to use that battery, but sometimes you need more power, and that's when I'm gonna use it, I will not use it every day, and it's everyone's choice in the end, you can either carry 2-3 spare batteries in your pocket or have this when you need it. It's not too bad, but as I said, it's a question of choice. I could have got the original 1340 mAh battery, the back cover is flat and looks better but I don't think it would have been enough power for my needs.
P.S. Battery is now at 87% after 24 hours of normal use with 3G on, with the phone checking emails once per hour. Not bad...

or this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/O2-XDA-IGNITO-DIAMOND-USB-CRADLE-EXTENDED-BATTERY-UK_W0QQitemZ350144525099QQihZ022QQcategoryZ48674QQ tcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262 which includes a cradle as well.

Over two days and the battery is at 72% with 3G on and standard settings, usually by now I would have had to charge my battery. The best I got from the standard battery was close to 3 days with the 3G turned off(GSM mode).

Hope you get that out of your pocket when no one's looking.

At least the official one didn't fall from the ugly tree:

Honestly, it doesn't look that bad when you have it in your hand, and it lasts way more than the official 1350mAh battery that expansys is selling for over £50. This one was only £16. Now onto 5th day without charging, battery 49%. What more can I say?

Just ordered this battery as after 1 day out using WiFi to check mail and other websites as well as playing games on the car journey and listening to some music my standard battery died after less than 10 hours!?! This should rectify this problem....
Thanks zoltar

Quick qusetion though, does it actually fit in any Ignito/Diamond cases now? (I don't use one just curious)

It does fit XDA Ignito from O2, it won't fit the original Touch Diamond, the back fitting is different. So, order this one only if you have an Ignito, otherwise look for a Diamond back case.
My extended battery just died this afternoo after more than 6 days since being charged, and only because I used my phone to listen to internet radio for more than 2 hours (it was 29% this morning). The last mobile phone to last me that long was a Philips with a black and white screen that I had back in 2000 - about 6-7 days. And it didn't have internet, music, office mobile, touch screen or colour screen.
I believe that if the manufacturer would make the back of the case flat, getting rid of the 'hump', a lot more people would buy it as many are being put off by that (see previous posts). But the battery is brilliant. I could go on a week holiday without taking any charger with me :D

I just have the phone next to me when I go to bed and attach it to charger.

It lasts the whole day with HSDPA and Bluetooth on (for carkit), and even some navigation will work. For car trips I have the car charger.

I never, but then NEVER had any battery-issues in my everyday use. I have a feeling everyone is just not needing the battery.

What is wrong with charging regularly overnight?

And yes, it looks damn ugly.

It arrived this morning, doesn't have a "massive hump" and actually feels ok whilst in hand. (Even I was surprised) Just one quick question do you charge yours with the cradle or does your original Ignito charge it no problem?

Thanks

p.s I just got an cradle, usb charger and mains charger that fits the cradle... no instructions ?!?! ah well can't be rocket science can it :D

Oh,come on. you're advertising your ebay shop, right?

If you were referring to me , you are wrong mate! It's not my shop, I just happened to buy it and found it a good product and thought I could help by posting pictures of it and my experience. If you check my other posts on this forum, you will see I have also bought other products for my Ignito on ebay from other shops.

To ant611982:

I charge mine either using the phone (I got mine without the cradle) or a separate charger I bought on ebay that charges the phone and a spare battery, but doesn't have a cradle. It can charge both the phone and a spare battery at the same time without any problem.

I'm afraid I have the same problem :( I was thinking of buying the invisible shield, but i couldn't find one cut specially for the Ignito.

Edit: I found the following cases that might fit. They are for the Touch Pro, but should fit a thicker Diamond as well. I still have to make up my mind which one to choose. There are others on ebay, but most of them in Hong Kong, and if you are prepared to wait about 2 weeks for delivery, fine.

This one seems really good to me.

This one is from HK, but it is symilar to the original HTC case and it flexible on the sides.

This is also from HK but it is a lot cheaper than the others. Looks ok in the pictures, not sure about quality. Not leather though.

I got my battery a few days ago and had used it since then! It's working really great, it feels that my Diamond would run more than doubled as with the stock one and GPS is also working!

Now I love my new device much more! :D

I would rather have this battery over the official one for the extra battery life, but wouldn't be able to live with the cover that comes with it. Anybody know if it'll fit into the offical extended battery case (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=172103)?

It is probably thicker, I don't think it will fit. I too am waiting for a 'normal' back case which will make it look better, but to be honest, I got so accustomed to the more than double battery life, that I hardly use the original 900mAh battery now. For the original Diamond you can find flat back cases, but for the Ignito, I haven't yet seen one.

I got one similar to this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORIGINAL-HTC-Touch-Dual-Diamond-Carry-Case-Cover-Pouch_W0QQitemZ360139529903QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_M obilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches?hash=item3601 39529903&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318 , the phone fits in with the larger battery. I regularly check ebay to see if i can find out a better alternative (and maybe a completely flat backcase :)).

I used to use my phone a lot for work and found the standard battery wasn't enough when using gps, , and my car charger wouldn't work as the car i was using at the time didn't have a working cigerate lighter...

also some people may want to go away for the weekend and be happy knowing their phone will just work

i've been tempted by the 2000 for my diamond, but looking for extended ones as my g/f has the o2 version

some people buy phones for function, looks are secondary, i feel this battery serves for people who like the functional phones ;)

Guys, I have good news! I have just ordered the following one from ebay, I've been looking for this for ages: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370185286856 . An extended battery with a flat cover! Price was about £20 including delivery. So no more hunchback! No more complaints. And long battery life! Suddenly I love my Ignito a lot more :p

I'll post some pictures when I receive it, it may be a week since it's coming from HK. As for charging time, I already have a 2000mAh battery which takes about 2h to charge fully. If I only use it for calls and sms and with the phone set to check for emails once an hour, I get easily four days. If i use it to listen to internet radio, mp3 etc, I can be sure that it won't die on me before I get home in the evening. Usage times also depend on how good the reception is, for example with the original 900mAh battery I used to get about 2 days where I live, but when I went o the office, the battery would die before 2PM, due to poor 3G reception..

I've just got one of these too.. the hunchback version. I am very pleased with it. First charge was Friday morning (17th) when the battery arrived.. and I have been using the 'phone more than I usually would, to see how it fairs. Very impressed so far, with plenty of charge to see me through, maybe the next couple of days???!!!! We shall see!

I am not bothered by the 'lump' on the back.. It still slides in my pocket easily.

I have finally received the flat back cover ordered about 2 weeks ago. The good thing is it fits nicely and the phone looks much better. The bad thing was that the guy on ebay advertised it as 2000mAh battery and it came with a 1800mAh. I would have bought it anyway, but I hate when people lie about a product, therefore I will probably leave him a neutral feedback. Anyway, I'm pleased about how the phone looks with this new cover. Have a look for yourselves.

Thanks for the info and pictures.

I got my Ignito last week, battery is shocking but the reason I chose it over is because of its size, it's almost perfect I wouldn't touch the looks.

If anyone finds an alternative that fits the standard case you must let me know!

@zoltar99

What is the averege battery life for this battery now?

With the 2000mAh battery, with phone set to check emails once an hour between 7AM-10PM and using the phone mainly for phone calls I get 4-5 days.
Otherwise, I can listen to internet radio for 6-8 hours and still have some power left in the battery in the evening.

By comparison, the 1800mAh battery lasts me about 3-4 days.

The good thing is, even if the battery is down to 20-25% and I'm away from home, I know that I will have enough power left until I get back home so I don't have to worry. GPS reception is as good as with the 900mAh battery.

This phone does everything I need, but I think it will be my first and last Windows Mobile phone, although I have created shortcuts for the programs I use most and customised it a lot, I still find I have to go through a lot of screens when I need to make a call. The phone function of this phone ( lol ) is the most difficult thing about it. I have my eyes on the Palm Pre or one of the coming Android phones.

may be this is because you havnt found the shortcuts?

try this,
whatever screen is showing on your phone right now ignore it and press the call button on the phone. this will switch immediately to the phone mode.
now, say you wish to call dave, using the keypad screen (you might need to maximise this) type 228 which will spell most of the word dave (if you have someone called dave in your phone.
there you go, within 1 keypress your into the phone, and a few more has found you the contact you wanted to dial.

this is way easier than going to "contacts" and trying to scroll through.

hope this helps. windows mobiles are great. if only they were more powerful and had more ram they would be better still.
i remember having a work HTC that had a 200mhz cpu with windows mobile 5.
DAM this was slow, and sometimes it couldnt handle making a noise when it received a message. but this was a few years ago now.
