Makes Windows Mobile look like it's from the dark ages:

I know! It looks amazing! Except the fact that it's stuck between qvga and vga :| Love the wireless charging though! The new OS looks sick! WM7 should be better than that or I'll hate M$ more than I do already.

The Pre looks amazing. It's small, looks great (especially the OS) AND has a physical keyboard. The only thing that's not so great is the screen resolution.
And I agree with the OP, it makes WM 6.1 look very outdated :/

I think that Microsoft is begining to make the same mistake that Palm did, in allowing their OS to grow stagnant. Palm waited forever to finaly update the OS (is this a new Palm OS? I could be wrong), and MS seems to be doing the same in taking forever to get WM7 out.
Hopefully WM7 will be worth the wait like this new Palm phone seems to have been.

The Palm CEO said this is only the first device to run this OS, so if it's success, I'd expected to see devices with higher resolution.
Windows Mobile 7 better be amazing!

palm...
this is the first time in my life that I have looked at a palm and was actually shocked and blown away
now that is innovative
and for kicks I googled windows mobile 7 for CES and so far I have heard a lot about windows 7, but very little about its mobile equivalent. Not good microsoft

This blows any phone OS....have you seen the Task Manager...Genius ! They have turned something ordinary into a delight.
I think WM7 is going to take forever to come out.

I think they are drinking a lot of strong spirits over at Windows Mobile at the moment. The beauty is that palm are still tweaking it and it was so fast on the videos already.
I love how you close apps for good, you flick them off the top of the screen! :D

^^ Thanks for the link, great find!
I love WinMo, and have never been impressed by iPhone or Blackberry. Palm's new OS is a great balance between functionality and a delightful UI. Hell, it's not a balance, it's the best of both worlds!
Kudos to Palm. I finally see a smartphone I want since my Blue Angel flew away, and it's not an HTC phone.

Looks good but I hope it's easy to say port apps from android otherwise it's going to be a pita having 4 seperate operating systems on a mobile (android, wm, osx and now palm (again))

The nice thing too is it seems the whole thing is written in very simple coding language. With the very blank "desktop" location and the different possabilities of adding "toolbars" in and above the "Dock" we may have an OS that has the versitility for customization that Windows Mobile gives with the finger focused aesthetically pleasing UI of the iPhone and the focus on simplicity and intuitive use that the old Palm OS focused on.

The UI is everything I wanted from a mobile phone platform; the actual hardware is everything I wanted in a mobile phone. It's nothing short of brilliant.

This is one of the best reviews of the Palm Web OS. Detailed descriptions on how the system workd on Palm's new Pre. They even have the official video form Palm's press event.

good phone ...bad timing....and maybe a little too late. If it has a ridiculous price tag on it then palm would have a really hard time selling these in this economy.

I found another video the explains alittle more about the OS. I like the part towards the end of the video.

Hope they have a GSM version coming after the Sprint debut. I like what I see so far... but need to have it in hand to really see how it is. For example, G1 and BB Storm looked great too, but having tried them in the stores, I just don't like it.

there should be a GSM version available. Sprint has exclusive rights so it will be at least 3 months after sprint launch for AT&T or T-Mobile to pick it up. i believe sprints release is in march so hopefully AT&T will have this bad boy sometime in the summer

After seeing such innovative ideas and making a comparison between my wm 6.1 sucker, i simply HATED all windows mobile OS'. Wm 6.5 is just a thema and uglier than ever as we'd seen MWC 2009 - Barcelona. WM 6.5 confirmed that "capacitive touch screens" will not been supported.
PALM will also have a full support with flash while WM-Android-Nokia are also in the same project.

my wish comes true... i always wish palm will revive, not meaning i will 100% use it (although it would be very nice), but the added pressure to Micro$oft is a good thing for us, consumers.... let them feel 'the heat'... or better... burned... both of them, M$ and HTC....
but i must remind you, for those who drooling and really eager to catch one... you may want to start searching new forum... since this one... is simply... won't accomodate ^_^ Good luck...
