making a call

Hello, I tried searching everywhere but couldn't find an answer to my problem. I'm new to using the htc diamond. When i make a call the screen doesn't show like how when i receive an incoming call. When I make the call, the screen just stays the same (like it stays in contact when i go to contact and make a call) and i can't use the speaker or other features when making a call like making three-way. Hope i described it well enough. It's really annoying that i can't use speaker and other features.
