for those who don't know what is idiamond. check it over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463018

i don't see why the thread has been closed even though the beta is supposebly over. (mine is still working and i installed it the first day it was released). i think we should be free to discuss about it. I'm personally creating this thread cause i need to report some major bugs so D-man can be aware of these issues that are very annoying.

1- with the Touch Pro. when your phone is locked if you slide out and and then you slide right back in the keyboard it automaticly remove the password protection and unlock the device.

2 with the touch pro again. everytime when you slide the keyboard and go try to type something on email or messages whatever it doesnt let you type the first try it takes you to call history. u gotta type on the task manager on the messaging section to go back and the second time it lets you.

if you have any other issues/thoughts, please share

i tried the sw and i found a strange thing in the setting xml file... there was a command line called "deploytrojan=1"...

however, i think this sw is really cool, would be better with autolock function and the possibility to set a "fixed line" of icons not sliding with the other... and a better clock function.

I don't want to talk about the developer...

I don't understand his philosophy...

Ya I thought it was strange to issue a beta version and then lock it out on Jan 15th. My only thought it is he will try to sell it after its created and thats why he was all weird about the program time out.

You people should read the threads. People are different. So is D-MAN666. He wanted to end the beta to keep his interest. Most things that are in beta, REMAIN beta for A LONG TIME. And he felt that it would be better to do them in phases. He is weird I'll give you that ;) but who isn't? I'm certainly sure that some people think I'm weird.

I think iDiamond is really nice, BUT I think it sucks hard that there is no weather app included and reading a sms is als crap cause the keyboard almost covers 80% of the new message...
Im used to see the whole message and not that "Outlook like" crappy view....

If I remember correctly DMan666 said in the Idiamond thread he would make sure people could still use the beta after january 15th.

I hope he does because I have been using it since the day it was released and love it.

For the people whining about lack of weather and active icons etc. It is a BETA and nobody is forcing you to use it. So give positive feedback or come up with constructive ideas instead of pure negativism.

if any of you actually read DMAN's post, he said if he suddenly found for whatever reason he couldn't continue working on the interface, he would release the beta again with no time period limit. so, as long as he doesn't release a time unlimited original version, we can assume that he still plans on releasing a new version at some point.

Ok, a few minutes past January 15th.

New Year magic is dispelled and beta testing of this release is over too.

Thanks for testing

Stay tuned for more releases ;)

Guess I'll go uninstall and go back to TF3D. Sucks that I'll loose my settings and stuff, but I'll eagerly await the next release...

I can't seems to find the delete option for the *_manila files on the windows directory... or is there other way to delete it?

D-MAN666

Total Commander should do the trick. 2 or 3 files won't prolly delete (file in use error) - they're fonts, and this is manila bug.

DMan: Great work. I've been using the interface for a bit now, and really like it. I finally got all of the icons added to the interface (with about 100 TF3D crashes and 25 or so soft-resets :D ). Don't listen to all of those bitching about no weather, etc. Considering it's a work in progress, it's working wonderfully. I'm awaiting the day when I can have that interface permanently with CoverFlo, etc ;)

JeremyGuan: After disabling TF3D from the Today screen, with Total Commander, I was able to select all *_manila files, and when I told it to delete, it went thru all 591 (or so) files, and said after it finished that it wasn't able to delete like 538 of them (which I assume are the untouched ROM files). I soft-reset, then came back and re-enabled TF3D, and it was back to original working condition, all settings in tact and everything.

Peace!

idiamond interface stopped working today.
Had to convert back to the Touchflo interface . . . so depressing.

Great work, can't wait for the next version. . . . Though beta versions should not stop working, they should display a new startup screen informing that this beta version is pasted its date and encourage the user to go to specific web address to get the latest version.

beta versions should not stop workingO RLY? Apart from my philosophy, technically speaking, the app shits the disk and the registry (not intended, just imperfectness of code), so it's dangerous to to be used for an extended period of time, so the beta is locked for your own good. Nuff said.
Also, beta testers should do various kinds of things: write usability reports, do performance\memory\battery stress testing and send feedback to a developer, and NOT demand anything from the developer.

He has the code... but does not let us to use...Sorry, dude, i'm not a commie :D

I am not asking for any improvement... that was already perfect...So, on the behalf of PPC community, you asking me to abandon the project and release it as is?

let us buy it...What's your price if you're so desperate?

someone please find a way to open this shit interface... i am angry......and the project will be abandoned then. No emails, no weather, no picture viewer, no music player. Just buggy interface and slide-to-unlock. Will ya be happy then?

Yeah man, i woke up this morning and had the sad message too, i was gutted, i got so used to using it lol

For me, on my Diamond Touch phone, it pi55es all over the standard TouchFlow UI, apart from looking nicer, with the ability to customise the icons etc...
It runs a lot smoother! The defaukt TouchFlow3d tends to be slooow and laggy, also when i press my 'cancel' soft key it caused the tab to shift once to the right, causing my 'friends' tab to be selected... this annoys me, and with DMANS iDiamond project i didnt have this problem, and it all just ran really sweet.

oh well, i uninstalled it this morning, put back my glass clocks on the TouchFlow, and am waiting in anticipation for DMAN to release the completed version - big things!!

I didnt notice any problems with the iDiamond UI at all, other then the pre-mentioned issue when sometimes adding new shortcut program icons it would cause TouchFlow to restart, but this was not even all the time, and its not something you do on a regular so once its done, its not an issue really anyway.

respect to DMAN, hes funkin' it up!

I can't understand this... if all you guys can't live with the TF and demand this iDiamond interface so badly, why didn't you just buy an iphone in the first place?
Don't get me wrong, the guy who's developing it is doing a very nice job, I just can't understand the desperation...
anyway...

Hteesee
16th January 2009, 05:59 PM
no desperation here.... just waiting patiently for it ;)

for me personally, this app running on the diamond is better then the actual iphone, because the actual iphone is a fecking BRICK!
Its well too big for me, diamond touch is much nicer imo.

the default touch flow3d theme/ui is nice, its features and effects are very nice [like the way you 'wipe' through the menu] ... but its just a bit slow and laggy i find.

I think thats where the real iphone comes up trumps, its touch screen is pretty nice to use, a bit too large for my liking, but it responds well, and i find my touchflow isnt so nice in terms of response. The iDiamond project theme/ui was, like the actual iphone, very responsive and spot on

Oh yeah ... my mate has the Viewty ... aka Poooo!ty

He wanted a iphone theme on his mobile.
Me showing him my htc with this idiamond iphone theme got him well jealous.
....which is fun

well it is a great piece of software and I want to see some continued development. So take your time if you need it because I personally think idiamond combined with touchxperience with a bumped up page pool will make the diamond/tp/hd the best devices of the year!

and i just can't understand why many people in this forum can not tolerate comparing ifone and wm products... Please do not misunderstand me... I'm kindly wondering this...

First of all they are not apples and oranges... they are both cellular phones... and both do more than a cell phone capable of...

ifone is more usable in the sense of "today" screen (in my opinion)... But for many other reasons wm is more usable and clever and cheaper...

and thx to 666, we are able now combine them... or we were :(

666 you are punishing us bcs we did not pay enough attention for the dream UI... and you were write... but what could i ? my hand sketch's terrible...

i was joking 666... i love you anyway... everytime i reset my diamond, i see this Antonio Banderas looking guy for 5 seconds and wished you the best in every time... I'll be wishing again when the you are back with final idiamond... but please try to be quick :)

Business before pleasure...

Its been MONTHS since we've seen the first video on youtube with idiamond and now we had a chance to touch and beta test it...

It took alot of time and effort for D-man to make it as usable as it is... and if i know D-Man, he's not gunna release anything half-ass...

The sad thing is... he worked for atleast 3-4 months on this and THE VERY WEEK he releases it for public beta, everyone is saying "Whens the next release?" "Can we get an updated version?"

If people keep bothering him with these kind of questions, he could just give up and leave idiamond for himself and his best friends and never make it public!

Lets all just try to break this program and give D-Man the feedback he's been asking for...

D-Man, thanks for putting all this time and at the same time not trying to make an extra buck off the less fortunate who can't develop...

you are D-MAN!

Hey D-MAN666,

Is there away to create a launcher screen for your app on the fly? Let me give you a scenario.

I write a MortScript app which senses all web-browsers installed on the WM device.
When a user clicks a link/URL from anywhere, my app prompts asking "which browser do you want to open this URL with?" -- basically
I have started using MortButtons (launcher) for a nicer looking GUI and finger-friendly front-end. So I have two methods in my app to pop URLs, one that SmartPhone & PPC can use (older MortScript menu) --- and only on PPC I have the MortButtons option if the users wants to install it.
Is there a way to interface with your app like that and create a button-set on the fly and launch it? I create a MortButton config file in order to create the button-set of installed browsers. In the config file, I am able to give a command for the button, parameters, and an icon designation (like so: OperaMobile.exe,0 or a DLL,-1)

BTW, is iDiamond going to be paid software?
Thanks!

IIRC Idiamond was going to be freeware, donations are welcome ;)Not exactly. As for now, it's going to be freeware, but (i should prepare for another shovel of shit to my face now :)) there's a chance that it will be sold to 3rd party content provider for distribution. But in that case release date is likely to be closer, and money will be reinvested into future projects (new devices, beers, mentats and stuff). :) Donations are not accepted. ;)

I used the iDiamond for about 3 weeks and I loved it! I cant wait for the new version. :) That being said Dman I did notice another bug I havent seen anyone mention yet. Occasionally whenever a program or app would freeze up on my Diamond for whatever reason I would of course have to soft reset the device. Sometimes when iDiamond reloaded some of the icons/shortcuts were missing. I dont know why, I'm not a programmer, but it happened 2 or 3 times. I wasnt able to keep testing it of course due to the time out but I figured you should know.

Also I've noticed people asking about removing the program and trying to delete manilla files and registry edits. All you have to do is go to the remove programs app in settings and select to remove iDiamond. after a soft reset the original TF3D is back. No settings lost either. I'm not sure why people are making it complicated.

Anyways, thanks Dman and I look forward to your work in the future!

Being "based" on the iphone interface, the moment that you start charging for it, you could find yourself in some legal "hot water" with Apple. Just be very careful, you may find that "donations" are your only way around this "minefield".

I love your interface, my phone is depressing to use since its deactivation.
And while I loved the touch flow interface when I originally got the phone, it was too slow and unresponsive when compared to iDiamond.

Suggested ideas to make it less "iphone" ish, is change the front screen background to something other that the clown fish.
You support multiple icon screens, then add the capability have widget screens; e.g. the first screen after the unlock would contain a clock, counters for sms-emails-calls , and calendar appointments ... I know that sounds a lot like the Touch Diamonds original opening screen (which it is) ... but it takes you away from cloning the iphone (and its legalities) to merging ideas from several different phones.

According to D-Man, there isn't really a set release date, but he hopes to release sometime in Feb/March

2. the SMS prob. is gonig to be fixed in the next ver. ?

If you refer to his original thread, you'll see that he plans to add quite a few things such as SMS notifications, picture viewer, music player and the such. Judging by the high quality of his work so far, i would say he would prefer to push the release date back a bit rather than release a bad product.

3. the only link on the screen that i can't change is the clock - and it dosent leed to a clock.... why ?

Lol, again another thing that will be done in final release,

I'm well aware of that :)

the onlything i see wrong with what you are saying is that it is NOT an iphone port-over... he actually took NO graphics from the iphone, i'm sure he created them on his own and people do that all the time! ya know, like fake addidas and nike's... or how about the Hi-Phone.. its basically the same thing... did they get sued?

Nothing in iDiamond came from the iphone so i believe he's good to go...

Technically, he's giving us a HECK-OF-A-User experience that isn't half-ass at all! This is some REALLY good quality sh*t which took alot of time and effort! And once he has added some pretty wicked features, we will have absolutely NO-Need for the windows mobile background...
Just don't charge an arm and a leg for the prog D-Man mah man!

and if i can make one suggestion on this program:

Take a look at the Bell-UI and PointUI2. They incorporated its own start menu and semi-explorer which takes you to ALL progs and SETTINGS! And its placed at the bottom where the SIP usually is... if you could do something LIKE it, people would never have to break into that ugly and plain oem windows mobile interface! And i DEFINITELY wouldn't mind payin some money for a UI that did all that!

Isn't it similar to tf3d tho? it IS possible to map something like i described, is it not?

Not exactly. :) Donations are not accepted. ;)

I'm buying it! I love this project.

I haven't used iDiamond personally but from what I can see in the youtube vids, it looks like a superb app.

People complaining about the expiration date need to realize that it takes time to make a professional app. Honestly I'm sick and tired of apps that dont work, are hideous, and slow.

Thats the difference between iDiamond compared to other themes out there and its leagues ahead from what I have seen so far.

D-Man I give you props for all your hard work and hopefully iDiamond becomes the perfect app.

i was so dewastated in the morning of january 15th when i looked at my diamond and saw that "end of trial" sort of message.

that interface was really cool and let's face it after all what makes the iphone so great is this neat UI along with it instant program launches and the much more smoother scrolling on the touchscreen.

hope to see one demoralized idiamond user like me who only has more experience in programming and stuff write an alternative *FREE* idiamond skin so that we again can enjoy this unique UI.

I don't think the project is that special YET. It is only a semi functional launcher after all. I don't think that's what makes the iphone great (different discussion) because grid icon launchers are a dime a dozen. Also, programs don't launch "instantly". The animation fools you into thinking it's faster than it is. But it isgreat that iDiamond was so fast and snappy compared to the TF3D launcher, which lags once you fill it up and barely chugs if you use custom icons... In a perfect world it'd be a panel/tab instead. Looking forward to what's coming next.

I found a way to have this work after 1/15.

close tf3d
change the date in visiting to sometime before 1/15/09.
enable tf3d
change date back to home (current date)

now it should still work!
this will have to be changed every time you restart

doesnt that mean youll have to reprogram all the shortcuts on idiamond everytime you soft reset the device? That would be a pain considering you have to soft reset about 2 or 3 times a day at least.

*UPDATE* Nevermind all that, it doesnt work anyways. As soon as you change the date back to home it stops working again.

It seems like he (d-man) lost the interest to release a free version of the i-diamond program. Very sorry for that, cause i liked it very much. Maybe he could post a little sign of life of the i-diamond project? I canīt wait for that one!!!

If you had followed the topic posted by D-MAN and followed this topic, then you would know that D-MAN has a certain vision regarding posting news and new updates. He once released the first version so people could try it and give feedback.
After that he used that feedback and probably his new ideas to continue the develop. He chooses not to enter in discussions like this, because it only takes time. And besides that...a lot of people don't have the patience anyways. Even if he gives a sign of life, people still keep asking when a new version will be released.
Just have a little patience and let all the great developers here do their work. I also find it sometimes difficult to wait for new updates, but I try to wait for the developers to give a sign of life and afterwards give them all the compliments and cups of coffee they deserve! :)

"He who controls the spice controls the universe." lol. How true. Well, if my money is going to buy more mentats to keep coming out with good work, then i'm all for it.

Also, i gotta agree I dunno why "dream ui" was not as popular a topic. I'm very curious what D Man666's and others are cooking in their heads in regard to something like that. Iphone & TFL3d UI's have some nice features, but they still miss the bullseyeys in a few regards. Idiamond my favorite so far out there, but still, there seems more logical ways to organize information than any of the UI's out there. I've tested out SPB, Point, Wisebar, TFL3d, WF, iFONZ, and still not competely happy. Well, until then, i liked idiamond the most and hope to see it come to fruition. Best of luck D-man666!
