Posting this on both manufacturers’ website, and on here. Not sure if it's a phone issue or an issue with the computer, though I have a feeling it's a computer issue. Anyway, I have an HTC Touch though Alltel. I downloaded the update program from HTC's website for my Phone and Carrier. When the program runs, it goes though all it's normal process, I have to click several check boxes, and finally the update beings and the progress bars is shown on the comp screen, and at the same time the phone enters the bootloader (The screen with the 3~4 colored bars). At this time, you hear the computer ding twice, like it detected a USB device being removed and then reconnected. After a few moments it dings again, this time signifying that the connected device cannot be recognized. After about a minute or two, the update program gives an error. I believe it was "ERROR [260] : CONNECTION"

I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work. I've tried unplugging and replugging it. Tried starting after manually putting it in the bootloader. Tried different USB cables. Tried it with the options for "Advanced Network Connectivity" in the connections section checked and unchecked. No matter how I try it, Vista is never able to retain the connection with the phone once it goes into the bootloader. I've even tried allowing Vista to locate Driver software, but it always searches for like 5 minutes, and always says it couldn’t find anything.

Any ideas?

PS: I did try some of the options posted around to basically 'jail break' the phone so could install via SD card, however I encounted the same error. And, honestly, I would rather apply the update without having to hack the phone 1st...
