Is there a way to prevent the windows customization after flashing a ROM or hard resetting it?
All my old Windows Mobile devices had this feature to press some buttons while he says "Customization begins in 3 seconds".

damn. resetting when seeing the 3 seconds message doesn't work. it just does the whole setup procedure from the beginning again

I have the same experience.
Did you manage to find a solution to this at all?

I think you are mixing things up. The "customization" you see is provided by HTC and is not the same as the "User customization" provided with many roms.
The "user customization" can be aborted by pressing "Cancel", whereas the normal customization can't be cancelled.
You would have to re-cook the rom and delete the whole customization part.

?? well i've been talking about the customisations that come with the ROM you have flashed to your device (whichever that is). This includes adittional software or additional registry entries and such stuff. Both original and custom ROMs normally have such customisations (I've never seen a ROM without any of such customisations)

This is the "normal" customization johnpatcher is talking about, the one that starts right after setting date/time settings after hard-reset/first use of the device. For this device, i don't think you can skip that, other than re-cooking the ROM..
For others, such as TyTN2/Kaiser you would skip that by performing a soft-reset at that moment, as smb was suggesting above..

Just perform a soft reset while your Diamond asks you to enter the PIN code for the SIM card, before the 3 seconds warning appears.
It works perfectly for my Diamond (but solves only a half of the problems I expected the preventation of the HTC customization would solve).
After that I have the following memory values:
Storage
Total: 85.06
In Use: 14.19
Free: 70.88
Program
Total: 111.02
In Use: 46.98
Free: 64.04
instead of:
Storage
Total: 85.06
In Use: 23.17
Free: 61.89
Program
Total: 111.02
In Use: 55.35
Free: 55.69
when allowing customization to run...
As I could see immediately after performing the hard reset with no customization is the absence of Opera and Manila. But same giant menu letters are still in their place along with some 3rd party apps such as Adobe Reader, audio Booster, etc. Also I suppose that there is no MMS support as MMS is not supported by WM by default.
So it would be nice for me if someone would help me to chose what to install and what to skip when preparing my Diamond for the first use after HR. I can't accept some of the HTC's innovations as they look poor.
By the way, why 256mb=85.06mb and 192mb=111.02mb according to HTC?

i am planning a clean wm6.1 with wisbar apps because it is more configurable and not so black . . . . .

It doesn't install Manila if the customization was stopped as Manila installing during the customization process. I'm talking about Touch Diamond, not Touch HD.
