Hi All,

N.B. The advice I have given below is given to get version 8.3.2.64873 working only, nothing else. I have created a thread specific to this version, because nothing in the first iGO8 thread worked.

After trawling through the *uber* iGo8 thread and wasting hours trying to find the bits needed, I have decided to create an easy update rar for anyone else wanting iGo8 working on the touch HD.

Just to confirm despite what others are saying on this thread, this solution works perfectly in 800 x 480, and 480 x 800 modes. Graphics are not "stretched" out of proportion to fit.

Please note: You must have version 8.3.2.64873

The rar contains the following files, all fixed and updated to support the touch HD in both portrait, and landscape modes:

data.zip
branding.zip
sys.txt

File Size: 9.96 Mb

Install Instructions: Simply unpack on your PC, and copy to your iGo8 folder overwriting the old files.

Orientation: To swap between landscape/portrait modes you do not need to fiddle with sys.txt. In iGo: Settings --> Device --> Set Screen Orientation. Pick your desired orientation. The program will the restart in the new mode.

Download: http://www.matthewpark.co.uk/iGO8_HD_Fix.rar

Edit: Have updated this rar to include fixed sys.txt (Sorry, included the wrong version first time around)

I have tested this for a few days, and iGo works really well, no bugs spotted yet.

Cheers,

Matt

Yo mate,

this is great. I work with the previous version of iGO8 because the new one would not work. Unfortunally your is is dead. Could you please look into this.
Thanks

I am sorry but the solution you provide is not really a good solution. The data zip you provide does not even contain a 480x800 resolution folder.

There is only one way to get iGO8 working on native 480x800 or 800x480 without having to change a thing on your sys.txt: use the retail PDA version of iGO8:

Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.64029 (Nov 7 2008)

I cannot be more specific that this, sorry. You will have to find out yourself. If you are not able to get this version to run, PM me and I will see what I can do...

Just install the Omnia version and modify the sys file on the device as follow:

[folders]
;app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"
app="\Memory Card\Igo8"

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"
resolution_dir="400_240"
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
vga=1

[rawdisplay]
highres=1
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
class="landscape"
driver="GDI"

[map]
2dheadup=1

[timezone]
sync_os_timezone=0
reset_os_timezone=0

[debug]
sound_q_length=200
queue_length=200
disable_outlookpoi=1
show_oneway=1
show_speed_limit=1
skip_eula=1
enable_roadshadow=1

Works like charm...

I did as you said but no luck.
It is not working. It exists just after "INIT API" appears on the screen.

Be aware that:

have to be written in your own language, i.e. for me is "Scheda di memoria"

if oyu look in the original posts sys.txt file you can see that there is NO config for memory card which might be a problem

Will update main rar file, but you can find this attached too.

Just don't see the point of why there is two iGO8 threads. I have posted two sys.txt that work in the 1st post of the iGO thread.

There are so many variations and scenarios that you can change your sys.txt tile. Also there are numerous data.zip and branding.zip files floating around that work in conjunction with the sys.txt file.

schreda
16th January 2009, 07:11 PM
why is in the data.zip no 480x800 resdir in the ui folder?? this is needed for the HD

david-v
16th January 2009, 07:12 PM
lets stop this sys.txt , data.zip and branding.zip madness...

it is actually rather simple. If the following sys.txt does not work, you are not using the right version for HTC Touch HD and you will have a very hard time to get that version to work:

[project]
name="igo8_pda"

[interface]
maxzoom2d=3000000
show_exit=1

[map]
3d_max_tiltlevel=7800
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=3000
3dcarsizemax=4500
3dcarsizemul=10000

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
autoconfig=1

If you start iGO8.exe and the program does not even start but closes without showing an error: your license is not the right license file

If you start iGO8.exe and it says anything about not been able to find a file, or the application database or any other error, then you are not using the right version of iGO8 for the HTC Touch HD.

The right version to use is: Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.64029 (Nov 7 2008)

any other version will give you a hard time since you will have to configure the sys.txt file to make it work properly, but never as good as this version.

With version Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.64029 (Nov 7 2008) and the sys.txt in this post, you will be able to set portrait or landscape mode from within iGO8 settings, without the need to edit the sys.txt. It will run in native 480x800 or 800x480 resolution, and you will not need to specify the (localized) location of your storage card.

So please, don't make it more difficult than it already is. Stop experimenting with various data.zip, branding.zip and sys.txt files....it will drive you mad :rolleyes:

Just don't see the point of why there is two iGO8 threads. I have posted two sys.txt that work in the 1st post of the iGO thread.

Perhaps i'd better clear this up.

The version of Navngo8 I have is 8.3.2.64873.

I created this thread because despite using many combinations of files recommended in the other navngo thread, I just couldn't get it to work.

After putting loads of time in hunting round the net I finally managed to get a usable solution. I've shared all required files to make it easier for other users with the same version as me.

You have a problem with activation bro! Try from PNA not from PPC. And if you start first time this process sometimes takes much more time then normal. Sometimes half an hour.

Hi David, thanks for your input.

I know what you are trying to do. It is good to help people out, but trying to get the PNA version of iGO8 to work on a PDA is just asking for trouble and rather hard to do. Instead, use the PDA version.

If you anyway want to use your version, I can provide you with the right sys.txt, data.zip and branding.zip, but I would not recommend using this version at all.

So, there are a number of options here:

Using the PDA version (the one I mention in my post):
- simple sys.txt
- change portrait and landscape from iGO8 itself
- native 480x800 or 800x480 resolution
- made for PDA

Using the PNA version (the one you are using) with the "correct" data.zip:
- needs complex sys.txt
- change portrait to landscape only by changing sys.txt
- native 480x800 or 800x480 resolution
- originally made for PNA, adapted for PDA
- might be slow in 3D rendering (again you might need sys.txt tweaking here)

Using the PNA version (the one you are using) with your data.zip:
- needs complex sys.txt
- change portrait to landscape only by changing sys.txt
- does not support native 480x800 or 800x480 resolution but lower and streched out
- originally made for PNA, adapted for PDA

So, what do you think would be wise to do here?

What you're saying here is not the full story. I've used the latest iGO8 v8.3.2.64873 for several weeks now with a very easy and not complex sys.txt.
What you need is the right licence file and and one of the fixed data.zip you can find elsewere.
The data.zip versions from v8 to 9a and 9b all have the 800x480 and 480x800 and you can switch from portrait to landscape and vise versa without editing the sys.txt.
Look at my post in the other thread about this. I've posted a working sys.txt for this version with the proper licence files.
In addition to this, there are now 3 or 4 skins working in landscape mode for version 8.3.2.64873 in full scale (HD). I believe you've tried the Gurjon 5.9 yourself.
There are not much difference in PNA and PDA version anyway.
Some tweaking is needed. I've used iGO on my PDA's for several years now, since the beginning of iGO.
Just for testing purposes I now have 5 different navigation software installed on my HD. iGO has always been my favorite.

david-v

Wht you're saying here is not the full story.
I know :), but I didn't want to complicate things more. A lot of people get completely lost with all the data.zip, skins and versions of sys.txt. For example, the PNA version needs to be told where iGO8 can be found, so you would have to specify the name of your SD card (in your own localized rom language) in the sys.txt. We both know how to do that easily, since I have also been using iGO for a long time, but most people get lost with something simple as that.

That is why most people need clear instructions on what version is easiest to set up, and what to do in case it does not work. Telling people to use a data.zip file that does not even have the native 480x800 and 800x480 is just not a good idea. It confuses even more. That is the point I am trying to make here.

Anyway...like AllTheWay said, I dont see the point of this thread...it confuses people even more , dont you agree?

I agree. There's enough info in the other tread to make both latest version's work, but as you say, maybe it's confusing for new iGO users.
It is also a little frustrating not to be able to help more without stepping out of the site rules. But if people learn how to read and search, they will find the answers.

In your IGO8 folder you must have a sys.txt, something like this:

app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

If your hd is in French change %SDCARD% for the name of your storage card in French

my HD is not french. i bought it from a reteiler of HTC, in a different country. so i guess it is 100% from HTC. i just made a Hard Reset, installed the 64029 version with the sys file allready modified.

should i install first the 64029 original version.
then soft reset?
then modify the sys file?
then softreset?
then copy maps?

I think that version don't need to install.
Put the folder in your storage card and launch igo8 exe, then see the sys.txt in the igo folder, if your HD is in english see if you have like i said, maybe its in another language and igo couldn't find your storage card and map.

If your HD it's in english should be like this:

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

If its in French i guess will be SDCARTE

This my sys.txt

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

Using google, i found (what i think it was) the wright version of iGO8:
version 8.3.2.64021.

1. copied the 2 folders onto my SD Card
2. i modified the sys.txt file with this text:

[project]
name="igo8_pda"

[interface]
maxzoom2d=3000000
show_exit=1

[map]
3d_max_tiltlevel=7800
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=3000
3dcarsizemax=4500
3dcarsizemul=10000

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
autoconfig=1

3. i did a softreset
4. the HD asked me to install the iGO (the autorun was working)
5. after install, i got the error with insert the original SD

So, what i did to make it work, was to hard reset because i couldn't uninstall the iGO completley, and then make again the 5 steps, just that at step 2 i wrote this:

[project]
name="igo_8pda"

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"
resolution_dir="800_480"
mapfontscale=200
maxzoom2d=6000000
minzoom2D=80
show_exit=1
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
vga=1

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
class="landscape"
driver="GDI"

[map]
2dheadup=1

[3d_config]
roadsign_lines_per_screen=24

[sound]
mute_os_key=1

But, at the startup, the program told me that there is no voice, so it has to quit. To solve that, i just searched with google a voice (i found one from Portugal) and i copied the file into igo8/content/voice.

And that was it. I have 480x800 resolution, everything works just fine.
The satelites i got them very fast (just went to settings and selected COM 4 and the program detected my GPS antenna).

A suggestion: maybe, the 2 topics should be erased and then remake just one, with a crystal-clear step-by-step installation guide. the link of the wright version should be provided by PM, because on the internet there are a lot of versions, some of them with the wrong name.

Personally i thought i'm going mad when reading the other topic of almost 100 pages!!!! And everybody had different versions and opinions...

Finnal question:
what is the band rete and should it increase the GPS speed if i increase tts value? now it's 4800.

My thanks go both to MJRL and david-v !!!

Hewlit,

thank you for explaining your installation steps. The step you performed which is different than the way I do it is installing iGO8 using the 2577 folder (autorun). The PDA version does not actually need to be installed, just renaming application.dat is enough. Apparently once you install it you get a shortcut of iGO that needs to be told where the SD card is. Thats where you got the error message. If you do not use the installer there is no need to do so.

About the voice, yes, the content folder needs to be filled with at least one language, the basemap and one voice in order to work.

thanks for explaining your installation steps here.

OK,
this worked for me perfectly with Navngo iGo8 8.3.2.64873

Thats good if you want to use iGO8 in 240x400 mode streched out to 480x800. But you are not using the native resolution of the Touch HD here. The data.zip you are using is capable of much more...native 480x800 as well. But like I said before: it can be hard to set up the PNA version of iGO8....use the retail PDA version...

its only a shame you are not able to see iGO8 in 480x800 resolution, that looks even better, trust me :D

I really didn't understood what you meant, maybe something a little bit ironic?

I really didn't understood what you meant, maybe something a little bit ironic?
It was ironic, since we are all here trying to get version 8.3.x to work, the only iGO8 version(s) that support the native 480x800 resolution, and you come up with an "old" 8.0.x version which does not support 480x800 at all. So yes, it was slightly ironic :rolleyes:

why is evryone fussing so much about this? y not just use the omnia version? wat does this version add that omnia version doesnt have? (mines is running at 800x480)

admittedly, bitmaps seem a little blurry (if your being REALLY picky), but actual text and map resolution is perfect. animations are smooth, and lag is minimal..

someone plz explain wats difference between the omnia version and the touch hd version? and is it worth risking an upgrade (coz omnia works perfectly rite out the box)

The problem is that HD users will want a rar file with the entire IGO inside that works for all HDs.
SO far I was unable to see any iGO package that works without issues for everybody. I was for example unable to start IGO at all so far with configurations that work for others.

wat does this version add that omnia version doesnt have? ... bitmaps seem a little blurry (if your being REALLY picky)
Because the right iGO8 version does not have blurry bitmaps. If you are kind enough to post your sys.txt file here...you might not even be running it in 800x480 resolution as the omnia as only 240x400...

lets stop this sys.txt , data.zip and branding.zip madness...

it is actually rather simple. If the following sys.txt does not work, you are not using the right version for HTC Touch HD and you will have a very hard time to get that version to work:

[project]
name="igo8_pda"

[interface]
maxzoom2d=3000000
show_exit=1

[map]
3d_max_tiltlevel=7800
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=3000
3dcarsizemax=4500
3dcarsizemul=10000

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
autoconfig=1

Hi, you mean I need to copy this sys.txt and replace the existing sys.txt of Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.64029 (Nov 7 2008) then transfer to the SD card then run the installation from the 2577 folder? I'm using the PDA version.

You don't need to install it. Just rename the application.dat file in the iGO8 folder. If you install it using the 2577 folder, the sys.txt I mentioned will not work. You only need to copy the iGO8 folder to your SD card

here's what i did:

1. copy iGO8 folder to root of SD (with modified sys.txt)
2. rename application.dat to iGO.exe
3. ran program. it terminated with "program application database not found."

in the content map i noticed that the skin folder has no files and also the voice map has no files.

please help me out!

Hewlit,

thank you for explaining your installation steps.

As I said before, mattpark's solution does not contain the 480x800 resolution...so just don't download the files from mattpark, stick with the ones from the PDA release.

Correct, if you post big solutions here, you should at least make sure that you offer the right files to people. data.zip does not contain WVGA resolutions, thus will not work ;-)

boba23

Alright folks, here we go again, I'll try to keep this as simple as possible. Since the files in the first post are missing the actual goal of providing you with a working and simple solution.

Get these 2 files first. Modified branding.zip and data.zip. Both contain 480x800 and 800x480 folders. Check out the contents for yourself:

Data.zip v9d

http://rapidshare.com/files/206944914/data_8.3.2_fixed_v9d.zip

Branding.zip

http://rapidshare.com/files/205676729/branding_8.3.2_fixed.rar

rename the files after download to "data.zip" and "branding.zip" like the ones you already have with your igo8 installation.
Now go ahead and replace the two files in your igo8 folder with the new ones you just downloaded.
So much for the needed files ...
Now here is a basic sys.txt that will put your iGO8 install into highres WVGA mode, not many other settings/tweaks in there ... you can play around with it yourself:

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[device]
Type="ALIAS_XPERIA"
sdcard_dsk_num=7

[interface]
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1
wide=1
skin="ui_igo8"

[rawdisplay]
autoconfig=1
highres=0

[3d_config]
roadsign_lines_per_screen=28
rotated_roadsigns=1

[map]
2dheadup=1
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=3500
3dcarsizemax=5000
3dcarsizemul=10000

[msnd]
enabled=0

That's it. With these settings iGO8 should start in native WVGA resolution. If you want to switch between landscape and portrait, you can do so from within iGO8 settings.
Make sure you have this sys.txt file in your \Program Files\iGO8 folder on your device if you installed iGO8 to your device storage. If ya running directly from SDCard, then you should only need the sys.txt file in your iGO8 folder on your sdcard.
I don't want to give a complete iGO8 installation manual here. There are plenty of posts around that explain the procedure.
Go get version 8.3.2.64873, get the latest Teleatlas maps for iGO 8.3.2.x, replace data.zip,branding.zip and sys.txt with the files supplied in this post, then install iGO8 via autorun (2577 folder). That's the easiest way.

Edit: if you want to switch back to 240x400 / 400x240 then change highres=0 to highres=1. Doesn't make too much sense in my eyes, but highres=1 in this case means lower resolution ;-)

Are you really sure you downloaded the data.zip and branding.zip I posted? And that you are running version 8.3.2.64873?
I think I remember that error when using data.zip that wasn't made for 8.3.2.x.
Double check that you have the right data.zip and especially that you are not maybe trying to run version 8.3.1.x with the data.zip from my post. Won't work.
Btw, the long init time on first start is absolutely normal.

Thanks works perfectly, just plain simple instructions for your HD, even though i dont have the 2577 folder, now i need to know how to create a short cut from my programs list?

edit: found the solution from another forum quote igal27, Thank you!.

"application.dat is one and the same as igo.exe, just renamed - if you're running igo directly from the sd card, you don't need application.dat, you just have to have igo.exe in the igo folder on the sd card. if you're autoinstalling onto your device (i.e. with the 2577 folder), you have to have application.dat in the igo folder on your sd card (if it isn't there, just duplicate the igo.exe file and rename the duplicated file application.dat). during the installation process, the autoinstaller from the 2577 folder copies application.dat over to your device and renames it igo.exe."

Sure thing man. GPS lag (if you wanna call it that way) is present. I am playing around with iGO8 for months. But anyway, that's a very subjective matter in my eyes because there are also folks out there who simply don't see it. What is more, I don't think it's an Touch HD hardware issue, since I am running iGO8 and Navigon 7 also on my Dell X51v with two different Sirf3 gps devices (Bluetooth or CF GPS Adapter) and with BOTH I also see lag sometimes when I really pay attention to the map ...
I'd say that no one really knows where that inaccurateness comes from. Could be a combination of Windows Mobile GPS driver + inaccurate maps. But who knows.

I just changed mu i780 to a new Touch HD, installed Go8.3.2.64873 on my card, and it works!!..I have 2 problems, and 1 question:
Problem 1 after copying skin to content, still the skin selection is grayed out..!!
Problem 2 when setting the screen to be at all time on, the HD is starting to "tick" all the time
Please help
Question: How do I enable to roadsigns to show when traveling on Highway??..is it a matter of the maps??

In your sys.txt file, iGo8 is set to run in portrait. All the skins I have seen only work in landscape.

Try this in your sys.txt file and then you will be able to select either portrait or landscape from within iGo.

Yes, get a PNA device, even a 3 year old GoPal 315 with 400mhz and 64mb of ram outperforms this crappy Qualcomm shit we have easily. I couldn't believe my eyes when I put iGO 8.3.2.x on such a device for a friend lately. It runs a like 25 FPS, it simply flies :-(

I just checked update to version 71348 on touch hd. First impression I noted a good first fix time (about 10 sec). Others fix during day are always immediate. When finish to launch iGO 8, u have just a full gps signals in open sky. I note also about a same lag (maybe little less) as early version.

I suggest to rename and replace only mobilnavigator (exe) to iGO8 (exe) in same iGO8 folder just installed, without reinstall again all software.

OK,
this worked for me perfectly with Navngo iGo8 8.3.2.64873
Rename data.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/182224262/data_8.3.2_fixed_v9b.zip)
Rename branding.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/178235301/branding_8.3.2_fixed.zip)

OK... it works... :) Thank You!
one problem though... it always starts in Paris. How do I change that?

Let it get a GPS fix once. It will remember your last fix position...

Don't blame the qualcomm (you might blame it but just a little :)), blaim the resolution...Just for fun try to run iGO8 in 240x400 mode, not streched but really like a small square in the HTC touch HD. It runs fast as hell :D, but then again, too small to see. It is like playing games, the higher the resolution, the less FPS you will get. The touch HD has a very high resolution compared to other devices like older PDA's or PNA's.

I saw some differences here:

vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
autoconfig=1
driver="GX"

and vga between yours & mine config. I saw at PPC warez at iGO topic that vga0 & GX driver are better for high resolutions like 800x480

EDIT:

http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=257&t=56400 here it is.

in order to use the high resolution, set your resolution directory to the 800_480 folder and have both VGA=0 and highres=0 in your sys.txt

If this message appears, iGo8 tries to converte the speedcam .txt file.

1. Just delete the content of the folder speedcam!

2. Try wheter it work.

3. If that works and you want to use the speedcam warnings anyway, try to download a new speedcam.txt for your country and put it in the empty speedcam folder.

Gasman
31st March 2009, 10:40 PM
Also if you put a speedcam txt into the speedcam folder for the first time, expect to wait around 10 minutes for igo8 to process the file. It only needs doing once, but can be quite a wait especially if you have europe wide database.

Cupra TDI
31st March 2009, 10:49 PM
It depends on the speedcam file size how long it takes. But its right, that it takes a few minutes to "translate" the file.

no need for any kind of modifications to sys.txt or nethin guys. use changescreen 2.78, set application rule to only allow igo to use landscape and set igo to use device settings. voila, 480 by 800 with no stretching and no modifying

rename the files after download to "data.zip" and "branding.zip" like the ones you already have with your igo8 installation.
