UPDATE: 2-27-09 For WAD development please see this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3390958&postcount=36). I need suggestions, opinions, and testers if your up to it.
UPDATE: 2-10-09 Added waitcursor skins for MWC2 Please let me know if any issues with install. I have not tried the cabs yet.
UPDATE: 2-6-09 Opera 360 skins are located in this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3285007&postcount=22) Have a lok and let me know what you think or what we can fix.
UPDATE:Calculator skin available here: http://www.4shared.com/file/83961018/b4c4f923/SpbCalc_P.html Unzip to Windows folder overwriting existing file. This is for portrait only. Not doing Landscape unless someone requests it specifically. This lets me work on other skins to make a full theme.
UPDATE:1-30-09 Added Thumbcal and Quick gps skins. 360 black is same as 360 except black buttons on bottom. Instructions on bottom of post.
UPDATE: Added .tsk (Today theme). I tried to make the menus dark, was able to do it on my phone with skTools but could not find corresponding reg entries. Any Ideas? EDIT: Found the right keys and included a cab in the zip called "360tsk files".These color changes can not be achieved with normal .tsk file. First copy 360Green.tsk to Windows folder, select theme in >settings>Personal<Today, then install color enhancement cab and soft reset...A whole different experience. I will post new screens when I get to it. This makes the buttons and scroll bars green, the menus dark grey with green text, as well as some other surprises. To change back just swtch themes. You can also uninstall color enhancement after changing themes.
This was a pretty complicated affair since I had to manually change all the registry entries and reset again and again. I'm sure I will make further Today themes as time goes on and implement further color enhancement. Give it a try and let me know what we can do to improve. TIA-jmckeejr
UPDATED:1-27-09 Added dialer in two flavors. This is for QVGA(tested on kaiser). Let me know of any issues. Feedback appreciated as always. Remember to back up data if you're not sure. ALSO, attatched is a background for your today screen(Now included in Today theme).
This thread is for the purpose of developing a theme that is different than your run of the mill black and white Diamond or M2d, etc. I want my phone to really stand out and be different. You will see the development of my 360 theme as I progress. I invite anyone who would like to add to the collection with ideas or your own versions of Xbox360 skins. There may be several versions of one skin as practice makes perfect.

Thanks guys. I was going to move forward with the dialer next, but I'm having problems deciding in which direction to go. Need some opinions on this:
1)attatched is a possible background I just threw together using colors from the mainpage of the 360 guide. Consider it a rough draft. But I was also considering using the big xbox logo that comes up when you fist turn it on. Just center that and possibly make the buttons semitransparent so you can still see it. What is your opinion?
2)Along the same lines, should I make the buttons black? Green? Grey?
3)Was thinking of making the call history the same icon from icontact skin and I have an icon for the back key that is the same shape/size. Possibly just using the icon with no button? or red for back and green for history? or make them both black or whatever color I decide on for the keys?
Sorry for running on and on. Just hoping someone can give me a hand deciding. Thanks in advance

I would say go with the guide button in the middle. Make it a little faded out so it's not too distracting from the phone buttons themselves. I would go with black buttons, with maybe green lettering. Just my opinions.

Ok, so I was actually going to try to make all buttons semitranparent so that you could use any background by naming it correctly and overwriting the original. I went through and made my first version like that and then when I tried it I found out I cant use transparency in that manner. So started over and I have the portrait version just about finished. Attatched is screens of what it may look like. Green lettering might be a good touch, I'll have to try it and see how it looks.
I had originally used black gloss buttons with no transparency, but after playing my 360 for a while(whatching movies) I went with buttons like the ones in video player. They are partially tranparent and when pressed are green. Still consideing all ideas. Lets call this one version 2 and see where it goes from here. If anyone wants just the portrait version I could upload what I have so far. Landscape and all final touches should be finished by the end of the week depending on my work schedule.
I didnt want the logo too big because it would be hard to see call progress and stuff over it. I like all the bright green, but didnt want it to be overwelmig. Let me know what you think so far. Thanks for all the help.

In this process I came across a file called DPadMenu.dll. I wonder if this defines what presses on the directional pad does. I wish we could figure a way to make up go to iContact instead of standard call history. Anyone got any ideas for this? Any developer wanna give it a try? I tried looking into this dll, but I'm no developer(I'm actually a flooring contractor). There's nothing I could find that defines what button presses do. Thanks in advance

I used poorlyduck's M2D dialer as a basis, then did my alterations
I finished another version.(lost my progress due to an error on my part). Have not put it in a cab or tried it much yet. Gonna use it a day or so before I make it final. This one is lighter. I think I might also do the dark one when I get time. I was having a hard time making the same background for landscape. Anyway here's some screens of version3.

Went in another direction....I have made a Today theme, as well as a cab that changes a bunch of system colors. I'm not sure why, but these values could not be included in the .tsk file. It is a compete change from standard themes. I have made the menus dark, the buttons green, and other changes. Try it and help me get the colors right. Files attatched to first post.
Thanks

Just switch themes. When you select a new theme system colors should go back to default. When I was testing I had to reinstall color enhancement everytime I switched themes if I wanted to keep the colors. You can uninstall color enhancement, but you may still need to switch themes.
Also, Have skin for quickGPS and Thumbcal just needs some testing and tweaking:D I will upload when complete.
EDIT: Thumbcal is ready as well as QuickGPS.

Thanks a lot. I'll be waiting for some input. I'm thinking of expanding this theme by using actual screenshots from games as backgrounds. Not sure which games would be the best. Also, I finished the calculator, and I'm experimenting with some new glossy gradients that I got. I'll upload and post screens when I get free time. I am also working on a new color enhancement(the green buttons get to be much after a while, they are BRIGHT!!).

First, I have to tell you that the screenshot idea sounds great. Can't wait to see what you come up with if you do it. Secondly, the theme is shaping up very nicely. Thumbcal is especially smooth. Really digging the 2 skins. The Resco skin is sweet and fits well. Same goes with iContact and the tsk file. Couldn't test the dialer like I said earlier and I don't have qgps so I couldn't test that either. If you are looking for skinning suggestions, I'll just throw in ThrottleLock, s2u2, psShutXP, resco keyboard, gCalc, or nitrogen. Sorry, just started listing apps i use that are skinnable. Keep up the great work.

First one that uses game screens. Not sure, because the text is a little hard to see. I'll try it a day or so and see how I like it. Will most likely do some tweaking to the icons and possibly darken the background. Just wanted to put up a screen to get some ideas.

After a lot of trial and error, I came up with this skin for opera mobile. It was originally based on a color skin by papo found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430984). The only remains of that skin are in the skin ini file but should have no affect on this skin. I haven't had a chance to use it much, so let me know if there are any issues. This is my first skin for Opera, so feedback would be great to help me improve. Backup your original found in either Application Data\Opera9\skin\ or Windows\Opera9\skin\ and then overwrite with standard_skin.zip.
There is also a 360 splash in cab form due to the fact that different versions of opera use different files in different folders, etc. You should install to device as installing to storage card would make the registry entries invalid. It will place the new files in \program files\opera9\ and the corresponding registry entries pointing to the right place. I have made the progress animation faster for a more "Vista" or "360" experience.
Here are few screenshots. This splash screen is version2, v1 attatched for those who want something more plain. I am posting everything here because I ran out of room in first post. I will put a link in first post directing people to this post:

What do you use for internet then? I cant stand the stock PIE. I use skyfire a little, but doesn't compare to opera. Also, I have a waitcursor in the mix. Should be done in a day or two. EDIT: Finished and attatched. Just have to get the timing sequence down. It is for MWC2 (http://www.marshallskins.ilbello.com/php5/htdocs/downloads.php) , but may make a version to skin stock cursor.
UPDATE: Here is that commanager finally.
Here's a sample:

Well you wont have to now, I converted it to replace the stock cursor(1). This cab also changes start icon(2*) and signal icon(3). If you want the rest of my setup I can attatch the files, but I dont know how to make it work in a cab.
*Picture shown is MWC2 version, but stock version is the same just with a black border. There wasn't enough files for me to recreate the exact sequence, but I did make it circle then hold and dim like the actual 360:D
Tested cab on emulator without problems. To go back uninstall cab.

Just uninstall, or you can delete the file shellres.96.dll.0409.mui. I believe this is a system file which will be replaced by the ROM after uninstall. When I tested on my emulator I was able to uninstall and soft reset to go back.
Also, I made a new one for MWC2 which is the Xbox symbol spinning. Here is a screen and cab for anyone who wants to try it. Not sure if I'll convert it or not. If someone requests it, I suppose I could but it would have a border of some sort.

Yeah, I love that one. I would definitley convert it, but I'm not sure. It might have to be totally redone since the stock cursor is 16 images and mine is 17. I would either have to start over or just have it skip a frame.

hey jmckeejr. do u mind if i post ur cab for the opera splash in the software section for raphael or would ur make a thread for it? i have a vga device so most of ur skins dont look right on my phone. BUT, ur splash cab, makes it possible to add ur own splash screen by simply replacing ur splash.png in program files/opera, which has been a BIG pain for most of us using opera. thanks a lot for it and hope u put this post over there:) thanks a lot!!

I'm trying to figure out Wisbar Advance desktop right now. I never used it before, and I saw some cool themes for it so thought I would try it. After trying some other peoples themes fr WAD, I'm starting to get the feel for it. I am trying to use as many of the features as possible to make a theme that has the look and feel of XBOX 360, but is still functional for a phone. I need feedback and suggestions to make this the best theme possible. If anyone is interested in helping develop this, PM me for everything I have so far.
This theme will most likely take a little getting used to as it is not like other themes.
Features so far:
-Different pages for different categories.
-Left softkey will from here on be known as the "Guide" button. This brings up a new set of pages known as the "Guid", or Quicklaunch pages. This is separated into categories, with the main one having all "New" items with custom icons. Another cool feature of the Guide is the ring in top corner of current category. It acts as a status icon for several diferent funtions in one. Going around the ring clockwise you have Data Connection, Ring or Vibrate, Bluetooth, and WIFI. From guide, you can go to a larger list of apps.
-Weather page has dock for local images(updated every hour). You will have to find images for your local area and change it manually, unless someone knows a way to make it a variable and a good place to get these images.
-Xbox Today page, for all your plug-ins and whatnot.
-more to come
Please give suggestions that will make this even better. What should I have on the My Xbox page? Right now it seems cluttered. I like the idea on the Media page. Not cluttered, but gets you to common media apps.
Any way to make up and down on Dpadchange pages too? Right now only left->right work for navigating pages.

Ok, made some updates to my 360 theme. More to come.
Updates:
-Remade the icons on media and My Xbox pages. Icons are now larger and sharper. The clock icon is a working clock ;)
-Added SMS preview page
-Added individual pages for each day's detailed weather. Clicking any of the icons on the weather Dashboard brings you to that days weather details.
-Added Radar Maps to each day. 2 maps per day ;) I used a large map that covers all of US and a detailed map for the NorthEast. This should save some people the headache of manually setting that up.
-Made streetcam views larger. There will be more, as we have them all over my city and its just cool ;)
-Made some improvements on UI. Made the back, XBOX Today, and programs button pinned so you can get around quicker. Also, the Xbox Globe that you see on each page in the bottom right is not just for looks. It brings up the start menu ;)
To Come:
-Separate pages for "System Tools". Gonna have a network page with all info/tools for network. Also a power page, and possibly a storage page to manage storage space and RAM
-Some type of built in player. Found all the info for integrating S2P, but not sure if I want to use it. I'm really attatched to Pocket Player, so might see about skinning the Today Plugin and making a Music Page. I will try S2P out to see if it works for me, but PPlayer has so many features its not funny. Plus I can listen on Bluetooth without using additional apps.
-Reorganize the guide button. I see no need for a media Blade since there a whole page dedicated to media.
-A friend page on the Dashboard. This will have a quick link to a Contacts page, a link to SMS preview, and I'm not sure what else. Plan on making it look like the friend page on the 360. Gotta find some more Avatars, and make up the graphics.

Some Tips:
-It would be better if it will be more of a touch base Xbox 360 like style menu,
not just by using the PPC left and right keys.
-Make the icons a little bit larger the screen size that your using is for qvga so
it might help a lot if those icons are displayed enough for the eyes to see it.
-I think this theme will be perfect for the landscape mode, if it is imitating the
Xbox 360 style menu, the flow of those pages will be remarkably look like as
the Xbox 360
-I like the way you design your theme and I support you for your effort of
bringing xbox 360 experience to our PPC.
-Keep doin your stuff your good man...

Atually have stopped development, as I upgraded to VGA this week. So anybody is free to do with it as they like. It is usable as is, but needs some fine tuning to be a really great theme. I had planned on using the finger slide method, but was trying to get the basic laout done first, so it was easier for me to stay in author mode and just press left right. Please visit www.SkinZone.org for the most up to date version, as well as changelog and development thread. Let me know if your gonna take over, as I'd like to see the end result ;) also, please give credit where credit is due. I put a lot of work into this theme, and I have plenty of extra images to make the theme any way you like it. Keep an eye out for some VGA skins coming in the next few weeks ;)
