Not actually Sanskrit is dead people still learn it but of course its not practiced i n real life.. but still its being learnt in the schools of India specially Kendriya vidyalaya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kendriya_Vidyalaya) Hindi is taught till 10th class/grade after that it is a choice, and Sanskrit is taught in 6th to 8th class/grade then again there is a choice between Hindi and Sanskrit.
I also learned Sanskrit, but took Hindi on 9th onwards. BTW Sanskrit contains many words from different Indian languages and the amazing thing is Sanskrit and Latin has many words in common i mean with same meaning, source : Watched a show on discovery channel. :)

Just randomly came across this thread. It has been awesome to read every post. I am in awe of those who have mastered several languages. Sometimes I feel like I can't even put two words together correctly on English.
Anyway, here is mine:
1. English 100%
2. Portuguese about 70% now and up to 85% when I have gotten my "ear" back when I am in Brazil.
3. Mexican Spanish 35% - %40
4. I find I can pick up a lot of Italian and French.... presumably from the Portuguese
