I am gona move to Brazil in a few weeks and want to use my Diamond there if possible.
I have been serveral times in Brasil and use to buy there a prepaidcard but verry often I have problems with most off the phones I used there until now even whit a custom RUU, I was wondering if the imei which ofcourse is unknown there could be a reason for it so I thought if I could change it I can use it.
I know its illigal in some countrys.
By the way my Diamond is complete legal.

Be careful with IMEI change. It's generally illegal in most countries, and not good for your bottom.

Hi Willen,
Sorry, but no information will be posted on xda about how to change an IMEI because of the legal ramifications.
It may be legal in Brazil, but anyone else could use it in a country where it is illgeal (for example, the UK) and then there could be some come back on to the site.
I have not seem any discussion on how this might be acheived either, so I don't know if it's even possible.
I wonder if any other Brazilain users might be able to help with the pre-pay card problems.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave
If it is illigal in the UK does it mean that even a discusion about it is forbidden? I thought the UK was a country with freedom off speech, I realy can't see how such a conversation can come back at the site, but offcoarse the last thing I want to do is indanger this marvelous site.
By the way I don't now even or I am gona need to change the imei I am just orientating seems the last time I was in Brazil with my Trinnity I was not able to get connected and I would hate it to arrive there and trough my Diamond away, only the idea makes me feel sick

That its possible to change the imei show this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIoEkbQ_ZvY) movie this is about a Sony phone but for me its a prove that the imei isn't a hardware mater.

The IMEI is like the serial number (VIN) on a car. Sure you can pop one off and stick on a new one, but that doesn't make it legal. It's not hardware per se, but it's issued to identify a specific piece of hardware (ie your specific device). Why do you need to change the IMEI anyway? Does Brazil only allow certain ranges of IDs to work "properly"? And what will you change it to; how do you know a number will be allowed on the network while at the same time knowing it's a unique ID?
Sorry, this smells way too fishy for these boards.

I am not the onlyone who maid have this problem that certain imei numbers won't allow you to connect as far I now in Turkey they have such a problem with imported phones searching to find a way to use my phone in a other country with a local chip I came to this possible reason
That I have nothing to hide or that my conversation could be fishy I can prove to you by giving my Imei number and phone number and adress here and my future adress in Brazil if you want to.

Ok, I'm not trying to point fingers or make assumptions you stole a phone or anything. I'm just wondering how changing the IMEI is going help. I mean, is it a frequency problem or something? I use CDMA, so I'm not sure what the GSM bands the Diamond supports are vs. what bands are used in Brazil or Turkey. Certain ranges of IMEIs might be assigned to phones with certain frequency capabilities; simply assigning one of those IDs to your phone isn't going to give it new radio functionality.
