Hi @all.

IS there any Linux or Android distro (ROM) for AtomLIFE ?

Greetings.

many times this has been asked..

seems no one is interested.

I have an atom life too...
but sadly, it is now being replaced by a new G1.

1gb storage embedded, 624MHz processor..
i too hoped there'd be a port of android for the atom life..

but alas, I'd waited too long...

hope my reply gives u the answer u are looking for.

go to pda2u.ru and you can try it on your own...
i had some troubles with formatting sd to ext2 (i dont have linux and vista is very stupid for this...) but i am gonna try it again when there be some time

btw i think it will work on atom - it has same hw like hp but its still beta and a bit complicated (and forums are in azbuka :-D )

i´ve tried to translate the post from pda2u.ru forum so you can try on your own risk!

its for hp6815/6828
so
1.download AndroidOnP535.rar form this link (http://cid-6fac71b8e8cee5b6.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/android/AndroidOnP535.rar)
2.Format your SD to ext2 format and extract rootfs.tar.gz (its in AndroidOnP535.rar)
3.Rest of files in AndroidOnP535.rar copy to the root of your device (except zimage)
4.Download zimage from here (http://leteckaposta.cz/954316129) and copy it also in root
5.insert sdcard with extracted rootfs.tar.gz and run haret-0.5.2.exe

so if your are luckier than me, you have beta working :) i´ve had some problems with formatting, i don´t have linux but i think that using linux there shouldn´t be any problem
one more time - YOU DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK ;)

aibonlengket
24th February 2009, 01:29 AM
@kosmodisk

thanks for translate and simplfy it for us. google kind of confusing. looking at the step, i just relize that you don't actually flash your rom, is that correct? so i assume it is safe for the rom?

kosmodisk
24th February 2009, 09:53 AM
yes it boots from your miniSD after you run haret-0.5.2.exe from you file explorer... (after booting simply do softreset)
i´ve done it many times but as i said, it is better to extract *.gz archive using linux - my problem was that when booting - everything gone well, it also recognized my SD but it could not initialize anroid.sh file

maybe the reason is that i have kingston card for testing this - and as we know this brand has problem with booting (f.e. updating rom)

maybe you´ll be luckier (i´ll try it again later but final exam is quite soon :) )

if you use partitioned sdcard you might have to change startup.txt
like this:

set CMDLINE "debug rootdelay=3 root=/dev/mmcblk0 init=/android.sh mem=64M"

to:

set CMDLINE "debug rootdelay=3 root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 init=/android.sh mem=64M"

i did it first with partitioned sd using partition manager, but haret didnīt recognize it...

wow.... its going on.... nice! Any new news yet...?

aibonlengket
7th March 2009, 01:14 AM
Dham it works, well actually it boots!!. I tried it with 02 atom exec. i did have to change the startup.txt to "mmcblk0p1" thing.

there were no networks, almost every apps crash, the screen kind of off to the right. touch screen works, i can slide to change the today, the louncher works. real cool.

@ariey
maybe you need to use ubuntu and extracted as root. thats what I did. when your not as root, extracting the rootfs.tar.gz gives error.

heres how, got it from the www ;)
=======================================
How to browse files/folders as root user in Nautilus

* To install File Browser (Root)

gksudo gedit /usr/share/applications/Nautilus-root.desktop

*
o Insert the following lines into the new file

[Desktop Entry]
Name=File Browser (Root)
Comment=Browse the filesystem with the file manager
Exec=gksudo "nautilus --browser %U"
Icon=file-manager
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;System;
==========

Now do:

$ killall gnome-panel

wait until the gnome panel resets, then go to the Applications|Systems
Tools menu and you will find an icon & item marked
'File Browser (Root)'
click & it will issue the gksudo nautilus command for you.

Just remember to be careful what you do with it...

hi thanks for great report... :)
good to hear it really works and thanks for photos

so you think my problem is that i am extracting rootfs.tar.gz using windows? i have some utility, so i can read and write to ext2 SD card, but it is as i was afraid of...
I don´t actually have any linux system so it could be problem...

maybe if someone extract it in linux and pack it to windows zip or rar ( i don´t know if its posible but i think that almost everything is posible in linux :D) maybe i could extract it correctly

btw. is it smooth or lagging? thanks :)

just download ubuntu here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) and chose try ubuntu when booting so it acts as live cd. I think when it extracting, it also made the file chmod to certain permission.

the ui is smooth as silk and instant. real nice.

regards,

it is running from sd card. just the startup file "haret" is running from the main memory. it is needed because after formatting your sd card in ext2, it would not be readable by window mobile OS. it will be readable when linux aka android running.

use Ubuntu as live cd/or linux machine if you have friends that have it. the link is in the thread that i post. Yes, the SD can return to fat32, but i think it's fat16 for the atom exec.

Yes, it is booting and recognized the ext2 msd, but the system said could not mount the ext2 partition , maybe because I'm using 7tools partition manager to partition the card under winxp. keep trying :)

so now i have great news for android lovers

, now you don´t have to format anything and everyone can try it on his SD card even it is FAT/FAT32 :) !!!!!!!! without any risk, works great

so
1.download ANDROID_04.04.09.rar (http://depositfiles.com/en/files/7sofhfjj7)
2.extract it on your sd so the way will be like this
<SDROOT>\ANDROID\data.img
<SDROOT>\ANDROID\system.img
3.now launch haret in ANDROID folder
(apps in *.apk you want to try put inside AndroidApps folder)

(when you´re at locked screen press right soft-key - here menu button)

what still doesn´t work:
- wifi
- BT
- power off button
- settings - i really don´t know how to set the clock and date
- usefull soft-keyboard
- sound
- camera
- current status of battery

What's the memory requirement for this to work? Can basic calls be made? When I boot my Atom Life I get just 22 MB RAM free for apps - will it be sufficient for Haret to run Android? Is there any way to maximize RAM for Android or to run it stand-alone?

kosmodisk
26th April 2009, 10:53 AM
yes, but unfortunatelly russian developers wich were focusing on android are now working on WM6.5 so no news...
flashing is much more risky and i thing there isn´t enough space for android in our device
hope, they will get to development soon...

main things i´d prefer to get to work - wifi, sleep button, some usefull and working soft-keyboard

It seems the work was being done at http: // pda2u.ru/topic549s620.html, which is seen in Russian, however Google translates it pretty well. One problem I see is the work is being done on a HP RW6815 - which I understand to be the Atom Life precursor - the Atom Exec equivalent - so even if they do get android working acceptably there is likely to be more shoehorning to get it working on an Atom Life. I did not manage to figure out the lingo to register to receive update emails either.

The latest image they have is Version from 08.12.09 ANDROID 1.6 rs1.4 RUS + Core for RW6815 as seen at http: // pda2u.ru/ipb.html?s=&showtopic=549&view=findpost&p=20213

This latest image would not (repeatedly fails) download for me. Perhaps someone else? Maybe someone can get it and attach it here?

Okay I could test it now.

First: It works on my Atom Life
Second: I can't do much because it's all russian and I can' read.

So what works:
- Media Player
- Meneus/Sliding
- Calculator

More I couldn't read/find out, on the quick.

Ah and it used lot of battery I saw after softreset (because I couldn't turn off).

I can make a video later if you want. If somebody finds out more, share it!
It's interesting...

Yep, works for me too, don't forget to put most of the file items under a directory called android, and run HaRET from the boot level.

Its in Russian.

OK my turn to assist! From the main menu page, with the clock on, go to the settings icon, bottom row, 2nd from right, select, on next menu select the top item.

Now select the 8th menu item from the top (= 4th from the bottom) and you'll get a choice of Russian or English. Select English....and away you go...in English.

Hello, excuse my english. I'm new membre.

I test android 1.6rs1.4 rus in my ipaq rw6815 and the result is not very bad.

- switch off/on screen don't work

- mode airplane - activate ok , desactivé don't work correctly, need reboot to work

- network will switch off after ending call. and after that all thinks related to network will not work ( search network; select network automatically ...)

- bluetooth don't work.

- video don't work.

- camera don't work and show this message : "please insert an sd card before using the camera"

- sms: when i send sms, i have sms not sent. but it arrives at destination.

- dev tools -> devlopement setting - activate ok - desactivate don't work.

- settings -> sound & display -> screen timeout -> ok but after, screen will not turn on.

- android keyboard settings -> vibrate on keypress -> don't work

- android keyboard settings -> sound on keypress -> don't work

- android keyboard settings -> show suggestions -> don't work

- android keyboard settings -> auto-complete -> don't work

- vibrator don't work

- battery indication: probably don't show the correct charge

- I can't test wifi because i have a hardware problem (bad contact !)

- all other options/applications work fine.

I want to continue the devloppement, but i have any idea to start. I think I have good basis in linux and linux kernel. can you help me to start. i need documentation ...

thank you.

PS: i can't send pictures.
