View Full Version : [16-06-2009] Max's Neon ROM Test (WM6.5 Build 21500)
maximus007
13th February 2009, 04:30 AM
Massive thanks to jerpelea (wouldn't have gotten anywhere close without him).
I'm back! This new version is based on the fantastic Insomnia NIKI Kitchen, using WM6.5 Build 21500 and OEM Iolite/mishmash. As I made this version for my personal use, it is FULL of applications - if you don't like applications installed from the start, don't download it!
Warning: This ROM is for testing only and has been prepared by a complete cooking noob (me). I cannot guarantee any results for you or your phone and this may end up screwing things up COMPLETELY :). Install at your own risk.
Having said that, it works very well on my NEON200 (Touch Dual 850), much better than any other ROM I have tried and even better than the old 6.1 version.
Make sure you have installed the Neon Hardspl (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377260) (thanks Olipro) before you even remotely consider installing this.
Known Issues:
- DEVICE ID Reports as NIKI100 (I am still trying to figure out the XIP stuff)
- The camera hardware button does not work
- The camera autofocus doesn't work properly (messed up the some of the files I copied I think) so it takes a few seconds to shoot.
- Hardware keyboard doesn't work properly. It thinks that it is a 16key version.
Anyway, give it a go if you are game and let me know how it goes. It is a hundred times more finger friendly than the WM6.1 ROMs (which is the whole point of the touch phones).
I only do this in my *very* spare time, so I'm sorry in advance if I don't update often. I can say that I am very happy with the ROM as it is (never use the keyboard or camera), so it may be quite while before I update.
Download the new WM6.5 ROM here (http://rapidshare.com/files/245073010/MaxROM_6.5.zip).
Old version (WM6.1 Build 21109) can be downloaded here (http://rapidshare.com/files/197449155/MaxROM.zip) if you want it for some reason.

Well done, looks nice. Everything works. Camera is good, text works, after calling t-mobile internet connects. Reception is fine, battery does not get hot. :D Although, instead of having a box with an x in the middle of it at far right corner, i have just an x. It takes a little more effort closing out of an application. Good job again.

Great stuff.
Are you having any other issues? Does the keyboard work 100%?

I've had no issues with voicemail...
Have you tried installing the latest Ezinput from the first post? Do you have 20-key device?

I can't find the SIP task in task manager to kill it before installing the .cab.
Also can't get online because it is configured for Telestra (I imagine I can fix that easily). The "Setup Connection" app in settings closes immediately. That is how I used to setup my internet/phone provider stuffs.
Edits.
Ok...oddly enough after I updated my internet settings the 'task manager' and a few other apps showed up. That allowed me to kill the SIP and load the keyboard.
Overall this ROM is fast! Very happy with it so far. Can't wait till it is finished.
PS - I can't use my hardware keyboard either. Even with the SIP update. On screen works perfect.

I have NEON300 US version. If I decide to upgrade, can I reset back to factor default? Or is once upgrade, no turning back? I have Build 19209.1.0.2 version now on my phone.

I haven't found a packaged default ROM. You might wanna see if he releases one once he gets this build worked out. I would love to get a copy of your default rom before you upgrade it. I think I lost mine 2 laptops ago. Once you load the HardSPL you can go back, however you need the default ROM to do so. There isn't a backup / restore utility as far as I know.

I havn't been able to figure out how to change the voicemail number from the Telestra default, but if you dial "123" with a T-Mobile sim card, it will send you to your voicemail account. Just a little tip I thought might help.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I thought it was just an issue I had to call t-mobile about. Thanks

I have een having issues with SMS. When I try to send a text, I get an error message saying that my message can not be sent, that I need to subscribe to the service. I flashed back to Seths V2 rom and every thing worked fine. Any ideas?
BTW, don't know if any one needs it, but here is a cab that works great for reconfiguring internet stuff for T-Mobile or AT&T
I Just found this link. Says it is for the Neon 200 US, but my device still says 300. Any how, looks exactly like the Ship Rom as I remember it.

- DEVICE ID Reports as NIKI100 (I am still trying to figure out the XIP stuff)
You can change it by editing:
1) Modelname.txt in OEM/OperatorPkg
2) nbhgen.txt in Tools/Htools
maximus007
18th February 2009, 01:41 PM
I've Changed nbhgen.txt to NEON200 and a different version number, but when I flash it still says NIKI100 and the old version number. I have also changed the CID in OS.nb.payload, still no luck.

Change the name in modelname.txt in oem/operatorpkg
Also change mixupdate_oemversion_100.provxml in same folder.
os.nb.payload content will get overwritten when the ROM is built.

Thanks for mixupdate_oemversion_100.provxml - that has the version info in it (also edited easily via registry). It was missing from my kitchen.
modelname.txt simply has "Touch Dual" (which is OK) in it. That file doesn't let me change NIKI100 to NEON200.
If you check my .nbh in a hex editor it displays "NEON200", yet upon flashing it still displays the device as NIKI100...

Hey,
I've been using this ROM for that past few days and its been working a treat!
Few minor tweaks to get things how I like it (IE. battery).
But other than that works really well and fast!
Would like to know when you get the camera button working.
Wouldnt also mind playing with the kitchen when its avaliable :)
Keep up the good work!

I used the most up to date M2D Customizer, and ran into a couple of strange problems. I was able to chsnge the skin, but if I tried to remove the analog clock, it bunched the digital numbers into the lower right corner. Weird, huh.

M2D Customizer works fine for me. I've tried a few skins and havent had any problems.
The other thing i've noticed is my battery life has gone down.
I used to run Lighter V3 and I got alot more out of it. now its lucky to last the day with hardly any use.
I have bluetooth and wifi disabled and just using direct push.

The battery life is the result of the HSDPA enabled radio. If you disable HSDPA you'll get better battery life. I've been using this ROM for about a week now and I'm very happy with its stability.

to change your voice mail number go to setting-->phone--->services tab. Select "voice mail and text messages" and hit the "get settings..." button. you can enter your vm number there.

I have a flex pay account with T-Mobile, it's kinda like the pick your plan go phone from AT&T. They won't let me change those settings. kinda stupid, but it's their policy since there is no contract.

I have a workaround for the keyboard issue. Repeatedly hit any of letter/number keys as the phone is booting up. Once Touchflo starts you'll see that the letter option are functional.

One thing I did notice, is with Bluetooth. I can pair it to my head set, but I don't get any sound. When I turn bluetooth off, I still get the problem with the hand set. I have to do a soft re-set, and then it works fine (until I turn bluetooth on). I should mention that I did some tweaking with Advance Config for the bluetooth settings before I paired the head set, so maybe that had something to do with it. I am going to re-flash the ROM and try pairing again without playing with the settings to see if it was something that I did (most likely culprit).
I will post the results as soon as I know. It may not be until later today, but I wont forget. If I can't build my own ROM, at least I can help identify problems to make others better.

I love it. For once, im in a dilemma between M2D or 6.5 lol. I apologize if the glitches I am about to post have already been touched. Im on my phone browser and at work, trying to hurry up.
Hardware:
-Camera button not functional
-Keyboard (both of these were an issue on your first rom)
Phone:
-I get a contacts glitch when scrolling down. All the entries get meshed together. Ill post a screen shot later.
- I use an extracted build of Opera Mini from one of the older M2D packs. Im having some problems pulling up the browser at times taking a few taps on my favorites tab. Whereas on your first rom I was having no problems at all.
-Im getting a weird buzz when I make a phone call. Increases when I talk.
-Doesn't seem like the battery life is as long .
Regardless, your roms are my favorite to use. Fast, stable and somewhat light : ) Hope this helps.

Thanks for making this build, maximus007! Gives us who have HTC Touch Duals with Neon ROMs a great peek into Windows Mobile 6.5. As others have said, a couple things that would be great to have are:
Having the camera button work.
Having the front-facing camera work.
Having more themes that use the newer Windows Mobile 6.5 menu skin--only the Classic theme has the newer UI.
Having the 20-key keyboard work.
Also, would it be possible to have a version without all of the extra applications in it? The phone tends to lag a little after the apps that i use are also installed.
It's really a nice ROM, and I'm glad I have it to play around with. :)

Has anyone loaded this up on a 20 key neon, and can they say what type of problems they are having?

I have the 20 key neon, and when I try to pair blue tooth, it seems to mute the speaker. The Keyboard is really weird, some of the buttons work, such as the "AS" button, which opens the start menu.

It is nice to have a 6.5 ROM for the Neon.
I can live without the Camera Button and the Keyboard.
Still to decide if I can live without Bluetooth. (I have the mute issue....)
Any chance of a kitchen release so that we can try and fix up some of this?

I installed this ROM in my NEON 300 and it is great, but I have issues and are as follow:
1. Keyboard is for 16Keys and I need 20Keys.
2. Front camera does not works.
3. Camera right bottom does not works.
4. Volume up/down bottoms are allocate to other functions.
Besides those small issues I really love this ROM, hope you could address them. Thank you:):):):)
