View Full Version : Replace SPL 2.03 with 1.11 or 1.04?

I'm new to HTC devices and to XDA. I received the device with 6.1 Professional and I wanted to see if 5 was any faster. I thought I was downgrading from 6.1 to 5 but apparently I flashed the bootloader to SPL 2.03.
I can access the bootloader screen (power + ok + soft reset). When I turn on the device normally, I get a green light but nothing else happens. I've had it for less than 24 hours so I hope I didn't brick it already. I jumped into the flashing thing way too quick. I did some research and tried several different things. (Mtty + spl-1.04.nb = Command Error!!!!!)
If you've got any ideas I'd love some help, please!

Just to add a few more details to this:
The tri-color screen (which I've learned is the bootloader?):
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
What happened:
I bought the phone with Windows Mobile 6 Professional (I think it was 6.1). The ROM on the device was Schaps 4.x (not entirely sure if it was 4.3 or not). In a fury of excitement and rushing, I was thinking (and I don't know why) that a 300KB SPL file was going to bring me back to WM5 and hopefully make the device move a bit quicker. When I updated the device, the update utility said my old version (Schaps 4.x) and the new version (of the SPL). I clicked update, and within 10 seconds, I had nothing more than a green light and no display.
I can access the tri-color screen, I've tried the microSD card methods (every ROM gets to 100% then the device completely shuts off. The only way to get it back on is to either pull the battery and press power (no display/green light) or power + ok + reset.
To make things more complicated I have access to two operating systems at the moment: Windows 7 (Beta) and Ubuntu 8.04. Windows 7 seems to work great with the device.
In WMDC I can't see the device since it's in the tri-color screen, but I am able to see it via mtty and the RUU installers when needed.
I've had the device for probably 1 day solid, is there any way to unbrick this puppy? Is there a way to rewrite the SPL (mrvanx doesn't have the CustomRUU SPL files any longer).
If you need more info, let me know. All my knowledge from flashing ROMs and all this terminology is from this site so thanks to all of you! I also have a background in computers (Windows/Linux - 10yrs) hardware and programming C (the basics anyway) and also web programming in PHP/SQL. I know how to fix most PC problems I've come across but this is simply beyond me. HOWEVER! I am totally willing to take on the challenge of learning a semi-new platform.

whats the link to the file you tried to flash? It sounds like you have tried to flash something no designed for hermes, but without knowing what it is you originally tried to flash very little help can be given. Can you still access the tri colour bootloader?
If you can and you have a full rom you can use, then these files will let you try and flash the windows os back on the device

try flashing this rom
http://rapidshare.com/files/18315008/RUU_HER_CINGULAR_2.06.502.3_1.34.00.10_SPL1.04.exe
if it fails at 100% try extracting the files from the exe file ,simply right click on the exe installer and click extract to then open the folder and right click again on the ruu_inside.exe and extract those to a ruu_inside folder (you need winrar installed to be able to do the extracting) Now extract the hermes_customRUU files in to a folder and copy the nbh file from the ruu_inside folder to the folder you extracted the custom ruu files to and install from there. If that also fails then i would try this file which contains no spl or radio
It will at least give you some indication of where it is failing if you are able to flash the OS
http://rapidshare.com/files/18475719/Hermes_WM6_vanilla.rar
Another option is to try flashing this rom
http://rapidshare.com/files/52912451/RUU_Hermes_TMO_UK_3.60.110.2_6275_1.50.00.00_108_T est.exe
also add to any comments you make and say where you are from, where you bought the hermes and as i have already said what it was you were trying to flash that got it in this state in the first place

To start off, I'm from Massachusetts. I bought the phone off craigslists from a guy in Connecticut (about 1hr from where I live). He's actually a good guy, he's trying to figure this out also.
The original flash is as follows: I went to MrVanx's site, tried to download 2.03 (SPL Downgrade Guide). The link was dead (to the file) so I googled the filename and found it on.
HERM_SPL_2.03_CUSTOMRUU.rar:
http://rapidshare.com/files/151828006/HERM_SPL_2.03_CUSTOMRUU.rar
I found this my Googling the above filename and copying and pasting the rapidshare link from the description in the second result.
I then downloaded Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 and connected the device. (At this point my 8525 was running fine with WM6.1 (Schaps 4.x). I went through the RUU provided above (SPL_2.03_CUSTOMRUU) and it showed the version I had installed (Schaps) and the new version it was going to flash. I went through all the prompts and it took roughly 10 seconds to flash the device. After which the phone can no longer boot. I can access the bootloader screen (IPL-1.04/SPL-2.03) and I've tried flashing quite a few ROMs to no avail (4 or 5 OEM Cingular ROMS), VP3G ROM, Schaps 4.3 ROM.
In the RUU it never shows my old version (it's left blank). It'll show the new version (whatever the ROM is). Both my PC and device reach 100% and the RUU says it's completed successfully. The device hits 100% for about 4-5 seconds and then shuts off. When I power it up, I receive the green power light and nothing else on the screen.
I can still access the tri-color bootloader screen to this day, just whatever I flash seems not to work.
I've also tried using MTTY and ran all the INFO commands and the task 28 command and successfully reformated the device. (Not sure if that changes anything bootloader wise, but it's still 1.04/2.03 (IPL/SPL)).
I've downloaded the ModifiedRUUUpdater-v2 and I'm downloading one of the original Cingular ROMs as we speak. I'll post back later after I've tried all of your links/ROMs.
Thank you!

Your third link (TMO_UK) - I assume is T-Mobile.. my device isn't SuperCID so I don't think that'll work, but I'll try after I attempt the previous three.
Thanks,
Shawn

Well so far Vanilla ROM and Cingular ROM you provided failed to work. I received the 00068002 error when doing SD card method (copying files from W7 box). On my XP box (copied from XP to SD) it shows "Loading..." then the screen goes right back to the bootloader screen. I'm starting to wonder if there is a problem with my machines.
W7 is beta = a problem.
XP has bad HDD = a problem.
I'm going to install XP over W7 and try all these steps again.
...I'll be back!
EDIT: To make things worse, W7 is 64bit, so perhaps thats giving me some trouble? I'm going to XPH SP3 32bit. I'll be back in a couple hours with results then.

I've done it without it checked and with it checked. Doesn't seem to work either way. I attempted to flash the AT&T WM6 ROM and once it said "Upgrade Completed. UPGRADE SUCCESS" I did a soft reset and received just received the green light (the screen still black).

I'm going to start a new thread all together with a more broad topic than what I assumed to be the problem because I don't think the SPL version matters at this point. I appreciate your help thus far and perhaps maybe if you think of a different approach on my situation you can post it?
Thank you again!
