ok, 1st post here so go easy guys. i have bought a brand new diamond and i have been very careful to install any software to the internal storage, rather than the phone itself yet since day 1 i have only had 8mb of memory free on my device, is this normal for the diamond or am i just overlooking something?

thanks in advance

I presume you have deleted all your temporary internet files?

Memory... are we talking 'Storage' or 'RAM'? It may seem an obvious question, but if you've installed all your software to 'Internal Storage', there's no way you've only got 8MB of storage left!

What you're probably seeing is 8MB of RAM, in which case you need to close some programs and use a good memory management program to clear up some RAM. I use MemMaid and before you moan, yes, you do have to pay for it

Check if your programs are closing when you push the x button. As far as I remember the default setting is to minimize a program when the x button is pushed, in which case the program does not close and keeps on using device memory. To change it you have to go to settings>system>task manager then go to the button tab and check ënd programs by tapping "x"".

Good luck

nope, i definately mean storage,

on the memory screen it says:

Total: 84.56MB
In Use: 76.41MB
Free: 8.15MB

Program memory is fine, i have a constant 50MB Free on that, give or take a little depending on which programs im running.

ok i have done a tremendous amount of reading and it seems if i install a new rom
a) i have to hard reset which is a major problem for me
b) i may brick my phone which i just cannot afford to do.

i have got to the point now where i only have 3MB storage free and theres no way of getting any more. any ideas people, there must be more than just me that has this problem.

I'm also only having 3MB storage only after clearing all the temp files in Opera IE google map etc... Will move from 1.93 to 2.03 so can have a fresh start...

Anyway I'm also trying to figure out what is causing such memory "loss"... Really want to know if those Manila modification / editing results in backup files stored in device? If yes can I move them to Card, or if I'm satisfy with the mod, simply delete them? Thanks

i am finding that same problem, even if i install stuff to storage card it still uses a small amount of internal memory. there is loads of stuff in the windows directory which i want to delete but cant. for example, .cab files for shit programs i dont use such as google maps.
i am leaning towards a new rom but
a) i have windows vista and you cant connect via activesync on vista
b) is it really as dangerous as people make out. i really realy dont want to wreck my phone is there not a ROM i can practice on that wont do my phone any harm.
c) do HTC release new roms or do people on here just make them

BTW. if a mod thinks this is more suited to another section of the forum, feel free to move it and change the topic title.

not that anybody cares but someone with memory issues might read this and be helped out. i installed a new ROM (Duttys 3.6b) with a new radio and i'm happy as a pig in shit.
i have the same programs installed as before but now have 80MB Free storage space

Check your message storing.. all your email and text messages get stored in your windows directory by default. You can use a program like SKTools to move the default to your internal storage card.. also you can clean out by deleting all files in \windows\messaging (you lose stored email) or by "clear..." in your menu on your email tab.

Also you can connect vista machines but you download WindowsMobileDeviceCenter instead.. same program as activesync but for Vista machines.

i had to download the new WindowsMobileDeviceCenter to install the rom so that works fine now. i cleared literally everything on the phone including internet history texts emails, everything. and still only had less than 5mb left. runs so much better on a new rom.
