Hello folks,
here are my VGA skins for probably one of the nicest keyboard out there.

Note that the keyboard application is NOT my work and nor will i take credit for it.
The creator of fingerkeyboard is Exidler.

I just created my own skins for VGA (original application was WVGA) as well as adding some more functionality (see Advanced version)

Installation notes:
1. Download the required file and unzip it.
2. Make a folder in your Program Files (Internal Storage is recommended!):
/Program files/FingerKeyb/ and extract the files from the downloaded zip into it.

You should end up with:
"/Program files/FingerKeyb/Skins"
"Program files/FingerKeyb/Fingerkeyb_register.exe"
"Program files/FingerKeyb/fingerkeyb.dll"

3. Run Register.exe and press "Register"
4. Soft reset. Your new keyboard will now be available under "Other input methods".

If you have a previous version of Fingerkeyboard installed, you will first need to UNREGISTER the old keyboard!
To UNREGISTER the keyboard (v1.1 / v1.2) follow this procedure:
1. Run register.exe and click on unregister keyboard.
2. Soft reset
3. Delete the whole Fingerkeyb folder.

Greek version almost ready. Just need to finalize the symbol layout.

Additional notes:

- To remove sound, edit skin-01-global and delete the text "click-0.wav". Alternatively you can delete the sound file.

The VGA port has been done before, however i didn't find a good landscape version for it. I could not switch languages and some buttons didn't show up properly.. My main aim was to re skin that properly and make fix the greek version for vga

ehm.. the dutch letters are the same in english so i guess this will work just fine too :D
to clear it up, fingerkeyboard allows you to switch between 2 language layouts..the above skin has english and greek included

for all that love this keyboard. i worked on hebrew keyboard

so just replace the SKIN.TXT file with the older and make a reset

now all english\hebrew.

although i seem to have a problem, in SMS in the To: field usually when i type he first letter i get a field displaying matching contacts that i can move between so i dont have to type the entire name but wit this when i type a letter nothing happens, any advice?

for some reason i cannot get this working on my touch pro. i followed the installation instructions, it shows up on the list of aavailable keyboards, however after selecting it nothing changes at all. has anyone else had this issue??

i know that you got it running but keep in mind that the original download from the HD thread is with WVGA resolution. you HAVE to use a VGA skin to make it work.

honestly i have no issues with typing..especially on the touch pro as it has a hardware keyboard too..i think you should have a shot at it first though before buying it..By the way you should really consider the touch pro 2 :D

if you get the confirmation let me know. Then i can send you my skin files. Version 2 uses a totally different skinning method. I have already converted it to VGA so you can use mine as a basis..it would save you a lot of work :D

use gensen or gyrator to rotate to landscape by tilting your diamond..personaly i use it on the touch pro too so that i dont have to slide out the hardware keyboard when its not really necessary

sorry i dont have a cab..the original application from the HD thread might also available in cab form but honestly it a very simple installation..you put it somewhere on your phone, click on register, reboot and its done...switch the WVGA for my VGA skin and you should be set..

The 2.0 has a glossy, works in portrait and landscape. The landscape does not show a colored spacebar though.

just an update for you folks..release of my v2 will be postponed a bit..i just had this great idea to expand the usability of this keyboard. I am working on it now and hopefully will have it done tomorrow.

This will be a feature that is not available for any of the finger keyboard releases until now :D :D stay tuned

Great work. Finaly long awaited 2.0 version is here. Now for the request part, does anyone know how to make a version with danish and serbian/croatian layout. I only use those 2 languages when writeing on my phone, so unfortunately english and polish aren't very usable for me... I would edit skin files my self, but as I can se, serbian/croatian has too many letters compared to standard layout, so it would need more buttons on keyboard? I'm such a noob at this, so....anyone has some solution?

update! sorry for making this wait so long but here it is..

The new feature i mentioned has some issues at the moment so i decided to split it up into 2 versions. Basic and Advanced. Basic can be downloaded as of today (check post 1)

As soon as i fix some of the issues with the predefined texts i will upload the advanced version too.

I had V2.0 installed and thought i might be able to just copy the skins folder over. That didn't work, so save youself some trouble and just remove everything and start fresh. Thanks for the GREAT skin. I LIKE IT ALOT.

yes indeed..if you have v2 installed you can just delete the whole skin folder and place mine in there...That should do the trick..

my layout has been designed from scratch so i had to change all skin files & some image names..So completely replacing the folder is better in this case

anyway, im glad you like it :D
I am now doing some additional editing on landscape (using the same icons as in portait gives room for 1-2 icons per row extra so i might do something nice with that)

1. The answer to your question is all over the first post. You need the advanced version which i am working on at the moment. There are a couple of bugs to be fixed as well as adding landscape support so it will have to wait a bit.

2. Personally i have a Touch Pro so that's no problem to me..I do use Gsen sometimes when i dont want to slide our the hardware keyboard though. Another option is Gyrator.

qvga version is in my things to do list. However, its gonna be based on Finger Keyboard 2. Skinning is totally different between the 2 versions and time consuming as well.. If i have the time i might consider adding v2 support for the black edition as well...
Anyway, i will start on qvga once vga is finished.. There are a couple more things to be done so..

This is an addition to Giannis86 Glossy VGA Basic Edition.

Pay attention that the letter ף is on top of ד, meaning you have to long click that letter.

Install instructions
Simply copy the files to \Program Files\FingerKeyb\Skins.

i have the layout working but i need to solve one annoying issue..i contacted exidler (creator of finger keyboard) about it as i dont know how to solve it...Hopefully he has a solution, otherwise i will post it as it is until a solution is found

Hi! Great news, here! Do you guys know anything about TD2 keyboard port compatibility? I had FK installed (perfectly working, I only had to take that annoying "click" :D), installed TD2K and after softreset my Diamond was stuck at the first screen with rom, radio, ecc... Only solution was hard reset. :?

All the rest is equal as on the English keyboard.

Nice work, but problem with missing shift key. Not possible to write with big letters, and get to all the other signs you get when pressing shift key normaly. It would maybe be better if đ was an extra button after L? I guess that would need more work, as you would have to move all the buttons in row 2. By the way, forgot to write in previous post, great work with keyboard setup and skin, definitely essential add on for my Diamond, just one suggestion: Separate more delete/back key and keyboard on/off key. I keep hitting the wrong key while writing, and keep closing my keyboard. Not a big problem while writing short messages, but gets a bit annoying when writing e-mails... (maybe I should just loose some weight to get skinnier fingers...who knows :) )

EDIT: Quick noob question: What is the reason for having the key that turns keyboard off? If you are using Diamond, you already have this function built in on diamond under keyboard. This space could be used for some other button/function?

i dont know..my thoughts exactly..the creators had that button but i dont see the use either..the only use is that if you long press it the WM querty appears

anyway i know what you mean.. the upcoming advanced version with predefined texting has the keyboard button replaced with the TXT button.
I could do the following for the basic version of the keyb button if you like:
make the normal press do nothing
long press=activate keyboard button

you can do this yourself too
Open skin-03-vga-port-01-eng
and replace (at the bottom of the skin)
Key 422 221 56 62 2,2,8,2 tog0 tog1 ,, ACTION.KbdButton
with
Key 422 221 56 62 2,2,8,2 tog0 tog1 ,, SC:,ACTION.KbdButton

I'm making a swedish version of this excellent keyboard. Landscape is done, I removed the keyboard on/off key as well as right shift to allow for some rearranging. I'm very happy with the results, I think I managed to make it quite intuitive and similar to a full-size swedish keyboard layout.

Now I'm working on portrait, but I'm having a hard time making a layout that I'm satisfied with.
Question: How do I squeze in Enter to the right on second row? I feel it belongs there... :) All help appreciated.

please look at the original thread (link in the first page) and folow the instructions there.. You can download the cab from there, then delete the skin folder that appears in your program files and replace it with mine

im not sure what you mean..the "return" button does the same function as the enter button..why would you want another one?

Two reasons:
1. I want Return placed differently on the portrait qwerty, eg next to "L". I would like the 2:nd row to be moved slightly to the left to make place for Return. To me, this is a more intuitive placement for this key.
2. Then I can reconfigure the original Return (between "." and "Keyboard off" into another key. The portrait qwerty has too few keys for swedish, so I need more...

Hope this makes it clear. :D

EDIT: Hm, I'm looking at the numbers in the portrait skin.txt file. Are the first column of numbers in each row the x-axis placement? Second column is y? If so, then I think I can make it on my own... :)

Here is my suggestion for a croatian port layout. I removed the keyboard off button, and moved backspace button down, than rearranged second row to get extra button in and placed one more, where backspace key was. This layout doesn't remove any standard keyboard letters (q w x y), just adds 2 extra buttons and other 3 letters are "uppercase" or hold inserted buttons. Didn't make the landscape, because I don't use landscape for writing (only opera supports landscape mode writing on diamond, unless you use some add on program), but if someone is interested, I could try to make something there too(you will have to wait for it thou, as I don't have much spare time on my hands).

If that is the case, what do you think would be better, to keep placements of buttons same as port., or to move buttons around to get the more authentic QWERTY layout? (can't keep QWERTY layout in port, as it needs more space for buttons) So I guess there would be a difference between port and landscape button position (not very practical if you have to look for letters every time you change between port and land layout..... ? but on the other hand, land would be more identical to the normal QWERTY keyboard layout)

This is the danish port I'm working on. Here I moved buttons a little bit, so I could get 1 extra button more, to get all 3 signs from danish language. It does however cut off the last letter (tiny cut off, but still annoying), so maybe the solution would be to make shift key a little bit smaller and place it where "," key is. "," would be moved to last place in 3'rd row. I only don't know how to make shift key smaller os it's the same size as letter buttons... Can anyone help with this one?

Edit the image files for the shift key in the Giannis86Ed directory. You can use Paint for this, I think. Find the shift and make it more narrow, then adjust the placement for the rest of the keys. Haven't tried this, but it looks like it would work.

Also, I'm considering to skip the language toggle key. I think most people use only one language keyboard and at least in scandinavian layouts you have all english keys/chars there anyway. And, if you still want to change language, this can be done in options for finger keyboard. You hardly do it so often that you actually need a key for it.

Jep, figured it out, I just didn't know if size was specified anywhere in code... Lang key is one possibility. It's just that I write messages on danish and serbocroatian, so I need 2 different set of signs. Maybe I'll just make one for personal use, where special signs for both lang are included on one layout (combine normal input and "long hold" input). My solution with making shift key smaller isn't practical for distribution either, as you would have to have icon for the key ass well (don't know if it will do anything to other language layouts you have, if you overwrite normal shift icon)

Anyway, would like to se your solution, maybe it's more logical than mine (not wild about backspace key at the bottom, because I got used to it's old placement). How will you place backspace after L? Resize the button, or? There isn't enough room for it in port. layout there.

yes it is..just open the skin file and replace the symbol that you want with an apostrophe.

to everyone else that was trying to squeeze buttons here are some things to know:
-Finger keyboard will RESIZE UPWARDS (ONLY)the key to the dimensions that you specify! Example: shift key is 56x62.. If you edit the skin file and put 80x80, finger keyb will increase its size to those dimensions. If you put 40x40 in the skin it will NOT work as it can not scale down an image

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO DECREASE SIZE??
1. Use paint as suggested to decrease the image size. However this means that all shift keys would be affected.
2. Make a copy of the shift key, decrease its size and save it with another name. Then add it to the port-00-types.txt (port=portrait). Then use its code (lets say shift-new) in the skin to make use of it. Make sure to correct the image size in the skin!

3 (i would personally do this:D unless you want an even smaller button than 40px width)
The Giannis86 folder contains a small shift key. (key_40_shift_normal) Add it to the types.txt and then edit the skin file (eng.txt etc) and type the desired dimensions

you could make the 123 key have a double function if you like.
You could have it to change to the layout that you specify for normal press and have numeric layout for long press.

You could try the following:
1. Edit the action skin and add the following
Action ABCD SL:newlayout

2. You should make a new language layout and specify its name as above (newlayout)
3. Edit the eng skin (or whatever you are using as a basis) and locate the code for the 123 key.
4. change the code from
key0 key1 ,123,,123 ACTION.NumericLayout

to
key0 key1 ,123,,123 ACTION.ABCD,ACTION.NumericLayout

OR
key0 key1 ,123,,123 SL:newlayout,ACTION.NumericLayout

the above codes will make the 123 key change to your new layout on press and change to numerical layout on long press

Another thing could be if you didn't "reopen" keyboard after copying 2 files in skin folder. Just open standard diamond keyboard, and switch back again to fingerkeyboard. That kind of resets keyboard and all new settings should be included You can do this from anywhere on phone - message app, mail, whatever where keyboard is accessible(just minimizing and opening keyboard again doesn't do the trick. You have to switch to another keyboard and switch back again...Or soft reset phone, but previous procedure should do the trick faster).

Ok, I played around with the code a little bit, looks like SL:digits helps, and placeing NL in stead of SL:newlayout works just like regular language button, where it changes to next layout. You can even use TextNl part to show what next layout is.
I'll fix skins soon and update previous post with new ones. Croatian version will be uploaded soon too.

so, im guessing thats a no as any of the skins cause an error and blank spot where the keyboard should be. with that being said, is there a way or giannis do you have plans on having a white keys skin like in the original thread? i think all the black is killing our devices and WE could all use something that brings some light. just a thought. thanks:D

i believe it will mess with the keyboard up as i tried using some vga layouts from reefhunter in the orig thread and it will give you a cant load skins error. and just produce a white box where the keys should be

Hi,

just made a first attempt for a German QWERTZ VGA version.
I decided to keep the language switch key out to save some space. There's a second layout hidden behind "shift-123".
This second layout uses capitals for each key on long press.

I did some minor modifications to some bitmaps of the GreenGrey color scheme. But the skin should work well with other schemes.

It's portrait only since I never use landscape.

Just give it a try and feel free to modify and enhance it. It's quite easy.

I made some small modifications to layout and made language layout changeing and chosing digits layout into one button. If you press normaly, you change language layout, and if you hold button, you get digits layout.

Had to remove one button for language in digits landscape layout, so that skin is included in post as well. You have to have this digits layout to prevente keyboard from switching back to language layout right away.

Copy port, land layout for language and digits layout into skin folder of Fingerkeyboard on your device. "Reset" keyboard by choosing internal diamond keyboardlayout, and changeing it back to fingerkeyboard (or you can softreset your device), and that should be it.

Go into your Finger Keyboard Folder and find the sub-folder "Skins"
Step 2:
Select..skin-01-global and remove this line...ClickSound click-1.wav
Requires a soft reset before in takes effect.

Yes, basically go back to Finger Keyboard Folder and select Register and press "NO" which will unregister and basically remove this keyboard. Do a soft reset and then remove the whole folder. Then dump the Black version and register that one in your internal and do a soft reset.

Haven't played around with colour themes on this ...

I disagree with the installation instructions, on the fact that this should be installed on internal storage.

everytime i connect my phone via usb, then try to type a text the keyboard does not work and i have to soft reset the device.

also if after usb connection i try to use total commander (which uses the keyboard) it just hangs and the device needs a soft reset.

i believe this is because access to internal storage is cut when USB is connected and the result is this keyboads not working correctly.

i disagree with you:P
1. usb connection means that the external storage (SD card) CANNOT be used on the phone. Internal will still be available
2. i am not sure why it hangs though. everything works fine here. USB, Activesync connection and i can still type fine :S

Phiew... Finally got around to finish my swedish layout. I've moved from one city to another in the meantime so I had to focus on other things.

It's not perfect, but very much along the way I want it and I think anyone familiar with the standard swedish layout will quickly get to know this one. The portrait layout is a compromise, I know, but I could only do so much with the given space. If you have a better idea, just open up the .txt files and do what you want, it's not hard to figure it out.

So, here are the files. Just replace the .txt files in the Skins folder with the ones in the ZIP archive. I use them with Glossy VGA Basic Edition v1.1

I've removed the english layout in portrait since I had better use for the change layout key and swedish layout contains all english characters. Landcape contains both ENG and SVE layout, though.

Hope my fellow swedes will enjoy this, I've put some hours of thought into the layout.

For xperia you'll have better luck with the WVGA version of Finger Keyboard. You'll find link in first post.

That said, if you edit the .txt files in the Skins directory, you will find colums of numbers for each key. These numbers are, from left to right x axis placement, y axis placement, key width and key height. Giannis has said that Finger Keyboard will automaticly upscale the size of the keys, so you could remove a couple of keys to get space and make the rest of the keys wider by increasing key width.

There is a fix for that in the first post of the original Finger Keyboard thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3395347) that you can try. Haven't tried it myself, though.

I downloaded Glossy VGA Basic Edition v1.1 (March 3rd), made a new folder in Program File named ''FingerKeyb'' then zipped all the files from Glossy VGA Basic Edition v1.1 (March 3rd) to that folder. I then opened ''register'' and it asks yes no or cancel. I press yes, restart the phone and it doesn't work..

Hi,

just made a first attempt for a German QWERTZ VGA version.
I decided to keep the language switch key out to save some space. There's a second layout hidden behind "shift-123".
This second layout uses capitals for each key on long press.

I did some minor modifications to some bitmaps of the GreenGrey color scheme. But the skin should work well with other schemes.

It's portrait only since I never use landscape.

Just give it a try and feel free to modify and enhance it. It's quite easy.

Try ChangeScreen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466858), it's much simpler to use than Gsen and has graphical interface to handle exceptions etc. Rotation works fine with SMS (tmail.exe) and everything else I set to rotate.

Though, Finger Keyboard has an issue with orientation change. When keyboard is on display and you rotate to landscape, you do not get the landscape layout. Instead, you have to turn keyboard off and on again to get correct layout. Would love this issue to be resolved so that Finger Keyboard changes layout automaticly on rotation.

you would have to do the following
press-->a
long press-->b
shift press-->c

if you ask me that renders the design useless
finger keyboard was not designed to work that way..you can ask the developer for more info, you can never know

Hello, I've made another hebrew layout for the 2.0 version,
this one focuses more on things we need in a keyboard, rather than ".org" etc., which I moved to the "SHIFT" area.
And it looks a little better, bigger keys and less unused spaces.
Just copy them to \Program Files\FingerKeyb\Skins.

Just realized I've been using FingerKeyboard2 and missing out on the VGA version.

I thied to find the Advance Version but couldn't find it. I only see the Basic 1.1.

can someone guide me to it?

Also, regarding setting the keyboard to default, SIPChanger.cab seems to be the answer, but the SIPChanger is not uninstallable, I really don't like to install applications that I can't uninstall. Is there another option? Even if it is more manual and that applies to this specific keyboard?

I have two problems:

1. For HP iPAq with windows mobile 2003, I cannot install the application. When I click the cab file, ".... is not a valid WIN CE setup file" message is displayed.

2. I think the application does not support Square 240X240 displays. After installation, during configuration, it gives the message "skin error: resolution for screen size not found" messgae. Would you please give me instructions on how to overcome this problem.
