HTC Unveils the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2
HTC has just announced two smartphones that will be significantly upgraded versions of devices that debuted last year. While they will have generally the same designs as their predecessors, both these upcoming Windows Mobile models will have larger, higher-resolution displays.
The focus of the design for the HTC Touch Diamond2 and the Touch Pro2 will be their WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) touchscreens, a jump up from the VGA screens on the originals. Below these will be a new touch-sensitive zoom bar.
Each will use a new version of HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface, which has been more deeply integrated into Windows Mobile 6.1 to deliver more consistency throughout applications and menus. Focused on making navigation easier with a fingertip, TouchFLO 3D offers quicker access to contacts, messaging, email, photos, music, and weather than Microsoft's standard UI.
The hardware at the heart of these smartphones will be near the high end: 528 MHz processors from Qualcomm, 288 MB of RAM, and microSD card slots.
Even though HTC was willing to unveil these models today, some details are still missing. The company has not yet revealed anything about their wireless capabilities, for example. Still, GSM and CDMA versions are a safe assumption, with Wi-Fi and wireless broadband. Source Ed Hardy, Brighthand.com
