Disable windows animations:

1 change to 0, then reset,- realy faster.

I have to say after hours working with it that this rom is very good in terms of battery, performance and bluetooth (MBW150 and JabraBT8010) works.

There are troubles with menu -I don¡t like the new ones- and lack of some programs but definitively for me is the best.

First off taxist, thank you and congratulations for posting the first 6.5 ROM for Athena. Things like this really make me glad I am a member here.

Even though it is a "test only" ROM, it isn't bad at all. I'd like to give my impressions of the ROM so that people who are thinking about flashing this have a good idea of what they are getting into.

Included Programs:
It is a clean ROM, as was stated before.

Only the default Microsoft programs are included. Office only has Excel and Word. New 6.5 programs My Phone and Outlook Live are included.
PIE is the new build with the four buttons at the bottom and the scroll zoom. Unfortunately, for some reason the menus seem to be in Chinese. Is anyone else seeing this? Browsing and rendering however is good - on par with the new Iris Browser, NetFront 3.5 and Opera 9.5.


Bling:
If you don't know what's in 6.5, you should read about it in more detail somewhere else. And don't expect much. It is still very much WM6. Here, I will just comment on a couple of factors specific to this ROM.

The X and OK buttons still suck. They were fugly to begin with, and look to have been extracted from a QVGA ROM on top of that.
The Titanium (new Today screen) icons, the scrollbars, and possibly the wait icon look to have been ripped from a QVGA ROM and are pixelated.
Titanium works and all the buttons and menus seem to point to the right programs and folders. (I can't help but think how nice Titanium would be with a jogdial like the Hermes.)
The animation switching between programs is annoying because it doesn't work right. (See previous post on how to disable this and speed up the system.)
The finger-friendly lists and menus almost seem like overkill on the Athena's 5" screen.
The honeycomb is laggy and isn't really necessary considering the 5" screen.


Usage:

It is fairly fast, not the fastest I have used (Michy's 4.1), but up there. Screen presses produce results almost immediately, and most programs open with little to no wait.
Programs install and uninstall easily and quickly.
All programs I have tried so far (lots of SPB stuff, Japanese fonts and IME, etc. etc.) have installed no problem. However, some legacy programs (PHM RegEdit for example) have problems with the new scrollbars. Scrollbars also don't show up when the length of the scrollbar is very short.
Universal finger-scrolling is nice and very smooth, but it takes away the option to highlight multiple items / text in many programs.
It automatically suspends itself after a soft reset, even if it is being used.

Hey buddies with x7500, this is a clean and working rom.
Just DO NOT press device lock, to get out apply hard reset.

Had been awhile not flashing, I forgot to remove the memory card
and SIM card. But nothing went wrong after flashing. Guess they
had did something for noobs like me.

So far, am very happy with it speed and especially the Task
manager. It really managed the tasks very well.
Battery monitor even better, they had added in voltage and
up time. Execellent to monitor actual battery status.

Two software that I must have, Mobile Invoice and Mapking7,
and both works perfectly. GPS fix were quick too.

Tested mail only.
All works well, remember to tick boxes in
Tools/Manage Folders...otherwise NO sent copies.

Internet Explorer has improved but not as
fluid as Opera when scrolling.

Just remember DO NOT lock the device!
Or do a full backup to save the trouble.

I'm having Radio version 1.58.
Wifi and GPRS works very well.
My data plan 10MB, before max only at 7MB,
now I get max transfer at 10MB during
Internet Sharing activites.

Softwares installed and working fine,
JS Advance Configuration Tool 3.3,
TCMP v0.72RC1, Spb backup2 and Diary2, MemMaid,
Network Wizard, WorkBook and PocketXpdf.

it turns out it needed roughly 2 soft resets in order to operate properly. it looks good. looking forward to updated releases. I hope microsoft increase the fluidity of the UI in later builds.

so I've been using 6.5 for a half day now, and found myself liking the animation a bit, I was wondering if its possible to add some fading-out/fading-in to it, (kind of doubt its possible at this stage).

I've found that the today platinum plugin responds better to 'tap' than scrolling.
I like the new IEmobile6, it introduced major improvements over the last version that was including in the TouchHD.

The damn honeycomb program list is slow, there should be something in the registry to increase the frames.....lets good good will hunting. :)

don't know why they decided to hide the remove programs link from the control panel.

Outlook live: I think we have to have outlook or exchange on the computer or something like that, that maybe the reason why it always times out because its not connected....

Twice now I get the error "An Unhandled error has occurred in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell." this error soft resets the device. hmm. I think I'm getting close to reproducing the error, but it almost seems random.

I've noticed that this release comes from the blue angel, and

WARNING!! do not use pimbackup to restore messages etc, or else you will cut your device's performance in half!

so those who's device is moving slow did u use pimbackup to restore messages ? the way to get back good performance is to actually do a hardreset.

I haven't found anything related to the honeycomb program list in the registry yet, if anyone knows where it is please post it. I kind of think it's in the windows directory, maybe in some sort of .htm file or something.

I think he's actually talking about windows mobile6.5 and not a numbering scheme for the rom itself.

has anyone heard of any updated 6.5 builds, even the build they showed at Mobile world congress?. need an updated build because this one keeps giving me the shell error which causes the phone to reset after I click the error notification. lol, one time I got the error message the instant my ex touched the phone.

plus there's a couple opera builds that also caused errors.I think only build 15613 that causes errors.

It's because if you read loud the b4 then you wouldn't ask. b4 is an abbreviation of before, the user was saying if there was any other rom before 6.5 that had this feature...

Some common abbreviations:

btw = by the way etc etc etc

Using Opera v9-5_Build_1184_VGA,
Initially seems ok, then now couldn't zoom and
scroll horizontally. Re-flash rom, re-install and still no good.
IE, couple of faults, couldn't open link from saved favorites and rubbery response when scrolling.

Green square during camera focusing no longer there.
Seem to me shot taken is not as sharp as before.

Still keeping it for minimal usage, GPS, invoicing and mail ONLY.:)

edit: press camera button to focus before snapping picture.
Previously, I don't recall doing that, I just snap and picture came out sharp.

With the commManager, we have the 5 tab, plane/phone/data/bluetooth/wifi

I had changed rom(MiChy6.1) to find out whether same apply,
and discovered still getting my yahoo mail, automatically delivered.
guess this push mail feature is from yahoo and not from 6.5.
I didn't try on exchange server with the 6.5, no access to any.

This build is pretty usable on my Athena, but since its in Chinese its of little use for me. I have also downloaded the 21169 VGA SYS from ppcgeeks, but I am not sure how to make all this into a usable ROM. I'll try and get some help on irc and if I can get something useful to run I will post it.

Two things, have you tried Touch-IT task manager (Been using it on my Fuze with all the wm6.5 builds and it works fine) since both dev are vga it may work here as well. a question about your kitchen issue, I am not sure if this would apply but do you have UAC enabled, I know the kitchens for touch pro & fuze will not run properly with uac, also there is a known issue with greloc and modules (Again not sure it would apply here but thought I would mention it) I am getting back in to the Athena world and will likely want to run wm6.5 on it myself.

I extracted the XIP from the chinese 21169 build for athena and have tried cooking using that but no luck here so far. of course I haven't got a real firm grasp on how all this works yet.

guys do not disable OS bitmap cacheing. if you do the phone will operate really slow like molasses. if you have core player installed it automatically disables it, you have to go in it's settings and enable it reset phone and performance is brand new.
