View Full Version : Got Omnia to work with TomTom 7 without GPS Gate

I don't know if the problem is solved here somewhere and I'm too lazy to search for it but today I found out the way how to get the omnia work with TomTom V7 without any additional program to get a lock on the satellites.
If you are interested in a short tutorial just reply to this thread. :)

@Merlin:
Could you please share the code? Will that work with a combination of Samsung Saga and Mio C520?

Thanks

I don't know if it works with any other device but it works for sure with the omnia.
I won't post links here because I don't think it's allowed here but I could provide the information on another way that's possible on this board.
We all know that the TomTom 7.450 only works one time after a softreset. So I thought that it should work with the new version 7.915.9196. And so it is. But if you want to install the 7.915 it says that the device isn't compatible with this software and it doesn't install. So what to do? I installed the 7.450 on the omnia and the 7.915 on my HTC. The next thing to do is to copy the files (only the files and not the other directories) from /Program files/navigator/ on the HTC to the same folder on the Omnia. So we have the new version now running on the Omnia but unfortunately this version doesn't accept the maps anymore. But I found an easyusetool_frontend somewhere in the net which is designed for the TT8 but does good work here (you just have to rename one file). Alternately you can buy buy the map for the TTGo8 and it works for this version of TomTom. I used TT7 now several times on the Omnia and it works like a charm. Don't forget to let TT use the correct GPS-port without GPSGate (or PortSplitter).
just do it! - otherwise shoot me a pm.... :D

It worked on my i780 eventually. The from port in the windows mobile GPS configuration was set to COM4 --> COM9 at 4800. I changed that to COM8 --> COM9 and in tomtom I pointed it to COM8. Now it amazingly works. But after using Tomtom, igo8 doesn't work until after a restart. I think this has got something to do with the GPS driver which are supplied by samsung.

On my i780 I finally got TomTom to fix GPS signal once, but it immediately looses fix.... I don't get it! Looks like a GPS driver problem that only affects TomTom. With iGo 8.3 and Google Maps I get Fix very very fast, but with TomTom it takes about 15mins to get some satelites and then freezes GPS signal.... Argh.

it's strange, but it seems that there are different versions of the i900. on the one from my friend this version works very well and now I tried it on another i900 and there was the old problem again of getting the fix only the first time after each reset.
Sorry - I can't guaratee that it works for you but I know that it works on some Omnias. Give it a try!

I wouldn't bother with Tom Tom if i were you, i had massive problems trying to get it to work properly on my Omnia, i gave up in the end even after trying to use Port Splitter etc...
I moved onto iGo8. Installed and worked straight away, no need for port splitter or any other aiding software. Move on and save yourself the hastle!

Install TomTom 7.917 on your Omnia i900 and makes these changes in your registry (it worked for me):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\InputBufferSize: set from 4096 to 512

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\OutputBufferSize: set from 4096 to 512

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\SleepOnNoData: set from 100 to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize: set from 16384 to 1024

The rest is the same as the usual GPS and TomTom settings. I used com port 4 (and 9 for hardware), but you can probably use any other port that hasn't been assigned yet.

Here are the links to the site I found:

http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/samsung_i900..._7_omnia-4.html

http://www.gsmfreeboard.com/showthread.php?t=194983

A big thank you to whoever figured this out :-)

Have you tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2?

It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique.

The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS.

Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data.

This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes.

I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant.
