"GemRB (Game engine made with preRendered Background) is a portable open-source implementation of Bioware's Infinity Engine which was written to support pseudo-3D role playing games based on the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. It should run on GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X and possibly other UNIX derivatives. It is licensed under the GPL. " (http://linux.prinas.si/gemrb/doku.php)

Seems to me it would be an easy job, as all you would need to do is have the proper dependencies. http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=16785

This forum has a post about it, with a link to installation instructions. I don't have time to hassle with it now, but looks like you need a few libs installed and thats it. If anyone wants to try gof or it! Seems like all we would need is a CAB to install dependencies, and that youtube vid was a year ago, I am sure there is a way now.

Baldur's Gate would be the best and looks like the entire focus of the development. Problem would be that it would be VGA only. I don't see this working on a qvga screen. The original game was 480x640 with BG2 being able to play at VGA or higher.

Oh man this would be awesome on my Touch HD. Good find! Now hopefully the gurus around here will take a look and get it working. :)

The last (and only) time I tried to port a python game to Windows Mobile, I was stuck at getting pygame to run. This seems to have less dependencies so might be easier.

I love the 2D series of RPGs but GemRB is nowhere near complete yet.

If someone wants to try porting, here is a post with links to WinCE versions of the required libraries (http://forum.ladoshki.com/viewtopic.php?p=15818479&sid=85041c0d2eb6409b5c119f953604a172). I haven't tried any of them and the link is in Russian.

... made by the original poster, no less :)

The games? You have to buy and prepare them for GemRB yourself. There was some discussion of fanmade games for GemRB but it is a lot of work.

Porting such a program is not a trivial task and is impossible for a non programmer.

This would change my life! (well my free time)
FOR EVER! (for at least 2 weeks until I complete it again.)

I have such warm fuzzy memories of this game. Imoen the theif girl who I am sure I managed to pull.....

Hours and hours of clicking frenzy.

Never Winter nights 2 just never grabbed me in the same way that these old games did.

I really hope that this can be done. I am unable to sit in front of my PC and replay this as I have so many things I wan to play and look at. Having this on mobile wouyld be perfect!!

I've never played BG before but was very interested when I was in school but couldn't afford to buy the software. But now its nice to have a flash back and play games like these on my phone during downtime. Thanks in advance for anyone who partakes in the porting.

My first post on xda-de(yea i'm a ghost member :D ) so hi.

It would be really sweet to launch this on ppc... I don't have enough skills to do that, but... whatever. if someone is interested - this is what you need to compile gemrb on windows mobile:

-libpng
-SDL
-python
-openal

(windows mobile has it all! so we just need someone with knowledge just to launch it :D )

-type in google "wiki gemrb"

ps
Sorry no links to the projects, because "To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed."

derdepp, hi. I can't really help you but there are compilation instructions on gemrb that could give you a clue...
Here is for windows:
hxxp://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=13087

And here is for linux:
hxxp://gemrb.sourceforge.net/wiki/doku.php?id=installation

Replace "xx" with "tt" :)

I finally bought n900... gemrb is just pure awesomeness! But whatever :D

Ok so i did a litte research and... sorry guys but we need someone who actually worked with WindowsCE.
Download VS,windowsCE sdk, open project, build... sad, but building a gemrb for WM isn't that simple :(
For building gemrb on Windows Mobile someone needs to compile it with VS(i think) using mingw(gcc), cmake and probably other stuff...

So we need here a pro :P
