Looks like a pretty stable ROM to me. :)

Some observations:

There are some leftover files from Dockware: CWTimeOut.* and Blocklist.txt

Also, I can't select multiple files in File Explorer, or multiple mails in Pocket Outlook by sliding over the list; the list starts scrolling instead of selecting multiple items (maybe it's a feature, but then I'd like this feature in PIE as well ;) ).

When I choose "Zoom out" in PIE, I see a white rectangle, but no zooming takes place.

One of the subfolders in \Windows is in Russian characters.

The "Sounds & Notifications" dialog doesn't work correctly (controls aren't placed right, and the dropdown list is not filled).

Hello, ALKOR.
Where is the link to download the version RC2.2.
On Sunday I saw the link but could not download the ROM.
I see to have been removed since they are fixing some problems. When do you plan to publish the ROM?.

I have not tested it yet but you can find the rom here:

If there is any trouble with the WPA then use the WPA Fix:

Filesys.exe patch modified for this ROM (which is GREAT btw).

Enjoy! Let me know if this helped you. :D

EDIT: I tested by running the patch and then installing a program in Main memory, and filesys.exe is still able to run at 99%. Any idea why?

EDIT2: I hadn't patched it right. It's fixed now. Even though filesys.exe is throttled, it still makes the whole machine run like a snail when it's running the compaction thing. Is there any way to Disable it COMPLETELY?

I see two bugs in this ROM so far. I hope these get fixed, because this is my favorite ROM so far.
1) The sounds & notifications menu is messed up. Nothing shows up in that area.
2) I can't soft reset the hx4700 normally. If I do, the screen goes black and it refuses to do anything. I have to take out the battery first and then put it back in.

Any word from Alkor on this?

Tried this rom. I Really like it just as the RC1. I think it is the only wm6.1 rom with IRDA working.

I am still experiencing problems with the pull down menu's in SPB programs (as in the rc1 release). I hope this will be fixed in a future release. This is the only reason I returned to the old rom.

The pull-down menu's is not a problem of this ROM; it is a problem in Spb software. Spb will have to update their software to fix this issue (and they have done that for some of their programs already).

Thankx, just looked at the spb site and see they released new versions in which these problems should be solved. I will try the rom again this weekend. I really liked the speed and the fact that is the only rom I have recently seen with working IRDA.

This ROM seems to work fine. I have a couple of questions though.

First, I am missing the Block Recognizer. I've been using Grafitti since the original Apple MessagePad. I'm more fluent with this than normal handwriting. I can set it in the Input control panel but it still only shows the Keyboard. Same with Letter Recognizer. Is there a way to get the Block Recognizer back?

The other thing is that I use Laplink Controller. Most of you have probably never heard of this. It allows you to display the screen of your handheld on your PC and use your keyboard and mouse to control it. Very handy. If anyone knows how to get this working, i would appreciate it.

Anyway, thanks for all the hard work that must have gone into this.

Regards,

Jon.

I was able to get the Block Recognizer back by using Tweaks2K2.NET.

I found another program which allows remote control and is much faster: My Mobiler

Now I have to see how much of my software runs on WM6.1

Make sure Wifi is OFF before applying these...
reset the device after applying, you will need to delete your current profile and recreate it and reset again to see the fix in action.
If you have any problem then reapply the files again and make sure Wifi is OFF.
Let me know how it goes...

I'm currently using Alkor RC but this should work with any wm6.x rom.

modpp.exe doesn't work on this rom (2.2) not even to just check what the page pool size is. Modpp works on every hx4700 rom I've ever tried, even others by Alkor.

Edit: hexediting shows a 4 mb page pool I guess, it looks like a chinese rom (??) and so the hexstring to check and/or change for the page pool is different, which would explain why modpp doesn't work.
Example:
Chinese ROMs and this Alkor2.2 ROM:
94 9A 1B 80 00 00 40 00 28 27 19 80 B4 7B 19 80

English ROMs like Sanjays or Ramsses etc:
74 9A 1F 80 00 00 40 00 08 27 1D 80 94 7B 1D 80

change "40 00" to "00 00" to make a 0Mb paging pool
change "40 00" to "80 00" to make a 8Mb paging pool
change "40 00" to "00 01" to make a 16Mb paging pool
-or whatever size you want

Hello

I've tested 15 days test version published by Alkor 21054 in 4pda.ru and I found the following weaknesses:

- When the battery is below 72% once turned off (via switch or when I stop using the "Paca" during the time scheduled for this goes off) is not possible to turn it on again. Only you can turn on by Soft Reset.

-Today I can not connect to the WIFI. I get the following error: "Can not obtain a Server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings. "

The rest seems to work well.

Hello again.
First of all I must say that the 21054 in its ROM test published on the Web 4pda.ru ( http://translate.google.es/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=es&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2F4pda.ru%2Fforum%2Findex.php%3Fshowt opic%3D70688%26st%3D2380%26start%3D2380&sl=auto&tl=en) Alkor is in my opinion, one of the best after or in tandem with the RC2.1 version.
Alkor a great job.

Comment that after spending about 20 days with this ROM I found several "curiosities".
- The ROM entry in a state of "hibernation" when the battery reaches 19% load. Then you can not turn the PDA or a Soft Reset.
-I had problems with connections in networks using the search WIFI WEP-128 bits. Reinstall the ROM and still have problems with this type of wireless networks. Apply the patch posted in post # 46. Since then, all right.
-The ActiveSync is loaded into the memory constantly (it's a small bug that comes from the version RC2.1).

My impression is that the SD memory access is much faster than in previous versions (with the RC2.1 and RC2.2 ROM was a takeoff on the time to see the SD files with Resco Explorer 7.05).
I installed these programs and they all run perfectly:
TomTom 7.916.9189 VGA 05 Resco Explorer, Opera Mini 5 Beta 2, Pocket Informant 9.10 Build 2413; CorePlayer 1.3.6 Build 7427; HiCalc 2.7; SKTools 4.4.7.15. And many more.
A greeting.

I always liked alkors roms as irda was working in all previous releases. As i had some problems with the "pull down" menus in SPB programs i used an other rom for a while.

As irda did not work in the 21054 rom, I tried the 2.2 rom (in which irda works). Updated SPB problems do not give any issues related to visabilty of "pull down" menus.

To be honest i did not notice any speed improvements in the new release. For now i will keep the 2.2 rom.

I use the program Pocket Fritz 3. The dropdown menus do not work.

There have been quite a few programs that had issues with dropdown lists in WM6.1. It's an issue with WM6.1 in general; not with this particular ROM. Most programs have gotten updates for it, maybe Pocket Fritz as well.

As a workaround, can you still select items in the list by using the D-Pad to "scroll" to them?

Hey.... any cookers out there runing 128mb that could bring us a WM6.5 for the 4700!!!

Cheers!!!

Hello.
Again Alkor has made a new ROM for the "PACA".
The new version is based on the XIP / SYS 21056.
A small problem, this in Russian.:(
Today my Russian lessons are a bit rusty.:p
Alkor for when the English version?
A greeting.

Upgraded from WM6.0 about 5 weeks .. upped PP 12MB. ROM install went smoothly .. started installing my catalog of apps. Everything worked ... sound-OK, BT-OK, WiFi-OK.

My previous ROMs all had default PP @ 4MB. I upped to 12MB as I suspected that my navigation SW (DeLorme StreetAtlas2010 and Topo USA 8) would run better; and my first impression was YES .. much better. ALL other apps also ran well to the extent I had the chance to explore.

I've used my BT with 2 different GPS receivers .. all was OK. But 3 days ago the BT failed .. won't load and gives the error msg:

"The Bluetooth Radio failed to turn ON due to insufficient driver memory available. You must perform a normal reset before you can turn ON the Bluetooth Radio."

the ABOUT screen reads:
BT for Windows CE
BT-PPC ver 1.7.1 build 5500
@ 1999-2006 Broadcom Corp

Did anyone come across this problem? Any fixes?

Frank

My 4705 evolved to: 128MB memory,
4GB SD, 32GB CF, and apps include:
Core Player
TCPMP
DeLorme StreetAtlas2010, and Topo8
DeLorme Blue Logger Manager
GPS Tuner
GSPlayer
MortPlayer
XN View Pocket
Opera9.5
RescoPhotoViewerPRO
RescoPocket Radio
Stowaway (BT) K'board & Mouse Driver
WebIS Pocket Informant
VK&AH ShortCAD
Total Commander
etc...

Go to your windows directory, select "show all files" search for btcoreif.dll, rename it as btcoreif.old and softreset your device.

This should resolve your problem. ;)

If there are also problems with WPA-PSK security then you can download de WPA fix here:

thank you for your input.

What tool do you use to modify the filename of a system file?

I have some tools that see the file but I cannot rename, delete it.
==========
Followed your fix .. used RESCO File Explorer .. renamed to '.old' ... soft reset ... same error msg trying to start BT.
Tried again ... same result.

Is it possible that a registry key is messed up?

Please, advise

There are two files. You also need the rename BtSDKCE30.dll and restart.

The BtCoreIf.dll and BtSDKCE30.dll can easily be found looking at the dates of these files. The new files after restarting should be the same date as most files in the windows directory.

Renamed files can be deleted after restart.

Hello Vervol (formally Alkor).
There is a problem with the driver of the battery on trial 20154 (ENG).
When the battery reaches 32% the PDA is turned off and on again should be able to charge
How can we gauge the ROM (the driver of the battery) to not warn of low battery when it reaches a value more "normal" (15% or 10%)?
I have a 1800 mAh battery.
A greeting.

To close my Bluetooth issues ...

I could not implement the "rename..restart" routine successfully.

Thus I tried a different route .. believing that the problem I had either Registry or some other startup pointer related.

So I did...

Hard reset..

Reinstall my file manager (Total Commander), Sprite Backup...
Start-Stop BT -- to see that it is functional ...
Backup my system to removable storage card.

Reinstalled another app ... and then tested BT.
Repeated with about 4 more apps, then did another Backup.

Repeated the above sequence until I had all my apps installed (total about 52 if I count plug-ins) .. to ALL backup file.

So now I have backup file that has everything working .. BT, Wifi, (I haven't tried IR .. am not using it), Windows Mobile Device Center (W7-64) via USB.

The idea is that if I encounter a failed BT ... I do a reset and recover the 'ALL' backup file.

Now my next task is to relocate all my data files which a particular app writes to internal storage ... to relocate these
to SD or CF storage (PocketMechanic has 'Relocate' tool .. though I haven't tried it yet .. I think this is via Registry tweaks).

Not being a propeller-head ... this is a solution I have evolved, maybe a bit messy.

Any comments?

tried run as admin? in xp compatability mode?
it might be UAC getting in the way.....
you might need to find a win xp machine to do this on as these programs were designed for XP not vista or Win7....

Great! An old and slow XP machine worked really fine and performed the upgrade!

Really thank you!!!!:)

Hi all, I purchased a mint HX4700 off FleaBay a few months ago and have been enjoying testing many of the ROMs here. Thanks to D Durst for hosting the files and information for flashing, and a huge thanks to the ROM cookers for helping to keep this great PPC relevant in 2010.

After trying nearly all of the ROMs, I settled on Alkor 21054 for offering the best stability and viewing of drop-down menus like the Windows soft key. However, I still suffered through frequent PIE and WMP freezes, and even Nitrogen was locking up. I flashed with PPsize = 4.5MB, yet was seeing occasional low memory messages when running Opera, Skype and BeyondPod together. In addition, WiFi was glitchy, on and off again, despite the patch.

I decided to splurge and upgraded the unit to 128MB using the services of PPCTechs. Jose and Lloyd were great to work with, kept me informed of their progress: highly recommend. They had the unit back in my hands within one week of receiving it for repair.

With all that fresh memory on board, I decided to reflash Alkor 21054 with 32MB PP size - WOW, what a difference! No freezing, WiFi is rock stable, and of course no low memory warnings. Following a soft reset, I have 69.2MB of program memory and 72.6MB of storage (nearly all of my programs are installed to SD, as are temporary internet files for PIE). At full tilt, I rarely see available program memory slip below 20MB.

All in all, mine has been an interesting, educational odyssey to finding the best solution in a low cost, highly functional WM6 replacement for the trusty Dell Axim X5. With a rip-roarin' OS and that gorgeous 4" VGA screen, I'm content. Cheers!

$129. The price included FedEx 2-day return shipping. If you go for it, don't send them the original box or a package you don't want to lose, as it will be discarded: the unit is return shipped in a fresh box, a cardboard "card" placed over the screen as protection, wrapped in an anti-static sleeve and then surrounded in foam. Professionally done.

This unit is so much more responsive with the extra memory - too bad we cannot upgrade the HX4700's WiFi to 802.11g! :)

Is there any CF wifi card working with WM6.1?

FrankKF
14th April 2010, 07:00 AM
I have run a series of CF flash cards .. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and now 32GB Q-Memory with WM6.1. I have also have a couple of Kingston 32GB 266X cards and had them in the 4705.

Based on my experience there are NO compatibility issues.

Stay away from CF MicroDrives (these are the 1inch HDDs ... and sloooow).

On one of my CF flash cards I normally have data files, space-wise mostly images, video clips, audio/music ... including movie titles for when I am on the road ... e.g., "Patton" at 1.1GB ... runs great.

The only SW I have on CF (16GB SanDisk UltraIII) and that is MapTumer / GPS Tuner ... a GPS map program (with satellite map images as an included option that requires gigabites space for high def terrestrial images). This app runs under 6.1 (I have now 12MB PP) ... but this application is still a work on progress, tough quite promising in my view.

Hope this helps your question.

Frank

PS: while on the subject, the SD slot is nominally limited to 2GB capacity; however Q-Momory is available at 4GB .. this is "SD", not SDHC.

First of all give thanks to Alkor for his new version of the ROM for the hx4700. ;)
To say that I have a hx4700 with 64 Mb and as indicated in the message I have changed the pagepool 4pda.ru 6 Mb to the program that is included in the zip file.
Once installed and loaded the ROM (you have to wait until I get 38% discount) made two HR and "Alley Oop" the new ROM in the "Paca".
I have found a small or large bug bug ... It is not possible to connect to the wireless. You can turn on the iPAQ wireless but does not show any network available. :(
Solution: Install the patch Vagus to be able to connect to WAP network and the problem is solved. Below is the file in case someone does not. :)
As for the battery I can say that there is no soft reset when the battery reaches the 32% load as was the case in the trial with the SYS 20 154.
Is missing the Bluetooth icon on the Today Panel.
As for memory, the version is highly optimized for maximum memory (between 34 and 33 MB after a soft reset and clean the PDA).
Synchronizing with ActiveSync via Bluetooth or cable perfect, no problems.
RescoExplorer, Opera Mini, all right.
I have problems with MMTaskManger in its latest version gives me problems and not let me open by stating that "The file 'MMtaslManager' can not open. Either ... trusted certificate .... "Sure I'm missing some files but I do not remember which it is.
In short, a good version if you installed the patch Vagus logically.

Hi everyone
I want to ask you if you are having problems with Bluetooth.
I can’t make it start. It’s weird because sometimes my pc or mi phone detects the PPC, but I can’t make a connection.
I tried to connect my PPC with active sync via Bluetooth. And it tells me that is a “problem with Bluetooth hardware”.
I can’t tell if the Bluetooth worked before, because the PPC was a gift and the old owner just doesn’t know.

When I tap on Bluetooth, Bluetooth manager or even in Bluetooth inside ipaq wireless nothing happens.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please help. I was very excited to use a GPS with mi PPC.

Aside from that, have the activesync to be always active in the ppc? Cause I turn it off with the task manager and it turns back on.

Thanks!

Julian
