So, I have downloaded a Neon 300 dump but now I have no idea how to make it flashable. Is there a kind soul out there who would take pitty on a poor, unfortunate noob and make a flashable rom?
Pretty please with sugar on top?
Here is the original link to the download.

Hi,
I have 3 Touch Dual Neon300's that have been sitting here for a few months because I've been too scared to flash a rom without having a factory original available to put it back. I figured that HTC would release one (I have an email in to their tech support but from my experience with them I will get nowhere) or something would pop up in here by now but alas I spent hours searching again the last few days with no luck except older NIKI ones or the same raw files you found. I've not cooked up my own rom yet but at this point I think I might just take a stab at it using dumps from one of mine. I don't plan on making any changes so should be stock except from what I can tell it'll still need to be SPL unlocked unlike a real official one. I'll post back in here if I find one that is flash ready or get one that works on mine. The good news is I do have more than one in case I F it up. lol
Btw, not sure what yours is/was but all 3 of mine are:
NEON300
ROM: 2.21.422.04
ROM date: 05/06/08
Radio: 1.65.20.19
Protocol: 25.86.40.04H
My wife is off scrapbooking tonight so I might as well play with my phones. :D

OK *some* luck so far. I dumped my stock NEON300 rom to the 4 raw files, downloaded nikikitchen from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361274 and extracted to c:\nikikitchen dropped Part01.raw & Part02.raw into BaseROM folder along with RUU_signed.nbh from RUU_NEON_Telstra_WWE_1.06.841.17_2_.exe (I figured it was the closest to the NEON300) that I grabbed from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3297430&postcount=4 (Pulled it out of the exe with winrar) Per this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2307423&postcount=17 I made these needed changes to htcrt_devices.ini
Added to [Devices]
Neon=1
Added new section:
[Neon]
Experimental=1
ModelId=NEON****
SignMaxChunkSize=64
RomSections=4, "0x200,SPL,262144,TRUE", "0x600,Splash,262144,FALSE", "0x301,Radio,17563648,TRUE", "0x400,OS,0,FALSE"
Other than that I walked through the steps running !BEGIN.cmd & !COOK.cmd making decisions per other guides I had seen for cooking or rebuilding roms.
For some unknown reason my 1st 2 tries would flash OK (after installing Oli's NEON SPL) but would stop on the rom/radio version screen. Hard resets did nothing to help get past that point. I fiddled around for awhile running thru things again, clearing out temp/TOM/OEM/SYS folders without much luck, trying other kitchens and other RUU_signed.nbh files until finally somehow I got a working copy using the old kaiserkitchen and using a NIKI RUU_signed.nbh file. It booted up & I was a happy camper! The odd things I noticed were that even after the customization on 1st boot ran & it restarted there were some icons missing such as Device Info and Clear Storage but many things were there. No idea why in the world that might be other than my assumption was that obviously something didn't transfer from from the original rom correctly. I went back to the nikikitchen and was able to build a rom that did the same thing. (Again no idea what I did different the times it worked vs the times it didn't.) Digging in to figure out what was there I found DeviceInfo.exe in \Windows (need to enable show all files in file explorer) and ran it to find the next odd things. The version shows as 1.13 and date in 09/07/07. It also shows the Model No as NIKI100 instead of NEON300 like before. In one of the earlier threads I saw a mention of the model # oddity but didn't find a fix but obviously even though the rom seems to have basic functionality (I didn't bother putting a sim in to make calls, test data etc at this point) it clearly is missing enough to probably not be too useful to anybody but I'd be willing to share it if someone was desperate enough for a 'stock' (I use that word loosely) NEON300 rom.
Well nuf fun workin on this for one day I'm tossin in the towel for now. Hopefully someone will come along with some experience with cooking (or in this case simply rebuilding stock roms from the raw files successfully) to help work out those few kinks so we all can have a good clean stock rom to throw back on if desired.

Success! After many attempts (and some *really* bad flashes) it seems I finally have a good 'stock' NEON300 rom. Everything appears to be there & even the rom version & id match before. The odd thing is storage space is 9MB more than my other true stock NEON300 (which I think was 'added' by the bigstoragemode) and 2MB less is used which makes me worry something is missing or maybe the rom was just optimized some during the rebuild. :D I need to put my sim in & test it some but if anyone wants to try it out let me know & I'll post it up otherwise I'll do so after I've tested it awhile.

Wow, Bill. You are my f'ing hero! If you could upload your Rom, I would be grateful. I have two Neon300's. one is all factory (My wife's phone) and the other is currently running a Telstra rom.
Thank you so much for working on this, my bet is that a bunch of us are going to be really happy that you put this all together.
Very Respectfully,
Rich
P.S. I actually called HTC, and they told me they don't have any RUU's available for the neon300.

Rebuild Release date: 03/01/09
Attachment: NEON300_WWE_2.21.422.04_Stock_Rebuild.rar.torrent. zip (Please help seed the torrent)
Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MDDOSR19

HTC Touch Dual NEON300 WWE 'stock' (straight rebuild from original dump with no intentional changes made)
ROM: 2.21.422.04
ROM date: 05/06/08
Radio: NONE INCLUDED (Stock was Radio: 1.65.20.19 Protocol: 25.86.40.04H)
IMPORTANT: Since this is not true stock rom your NEON *MUST* have hardSPL. I used OliPro's Hard-SPL (Thanks!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377260
WARNING!! DO NOT INSTALL ON A NIKI! I have tested on a NEON300 but it might work on other NEON's, check the thread for updated info.
Either way the standard disclaimer applies: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK & be sure to check out the thread to see other's experiences.
Note: Even though I made no changes to the ROM it seems rebuilding it (in particular ImgfsToNb's bigstorage mode) gave more storage available than true stock:
Storage:
Total: 129.16 MB
In use: 11.93 MB
Free: 117.23 MB
Program
Total: 110.83 MB
In use: 36.95 MB
Free: 64.88 MB
Thanks to NetrunnerAT for the NIKI Kitchen I used as a base: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1837580
Thanks to seth2006 for NIKICustomRUU.exe from SETHS V3 FINAL Neon_V3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419892
Super thanks goes out to all those who contributed NEON/NIKI info, those who made possible all the kitchens & related tools I used to get this ROM built.
Obviously if HTC would ever get their act together & release a RUU of a true stock rom this will be obsolete but until then this is the best bet for anyone looking for as close to stock for the NEON300 TOUCH DUAL US.
Hopefully others find this rebuild useful.

As eager as most, I downloaded the RUU that Bill posted. It ran the update normally and then rebooted like normal. After the normal configuration (Time, date and all of that) it started to do the Automatic Customization where it hung at installing HTC.tsk.
I did a soft reset after about 10 minutes, after which it launched the customization again. This time it went smoothly, only hanging at the .tsk for maybe 10 or 20 seconds.
So far, I have been playing around with it and it looks identical to the rom that was pre-installed. If I run into any problems, I will be sure to post them.
Many thanks to you Bill. You have done a great job. I can’t speak for everyone, but I am sure that your hard work will be appreciated by all Neon owners.

Hey Big Papa Rich,
Cool thanks for trying it out. Weird you had a lockup at that point.. I wonder if it'd be best to force a hard reset before installing the rom or after installing as that is about the only thing that would make sense other than maybe something on the SD card or if your SIM was in maybe some in/out connectivity so maybe it'd help to have those pulled out.. What rom did you have on there before, I could try putting it on mine then switching back & see if it happens to me.. Dunno, maybe others can fill us in on their experiences & it might help narrow it down.
The only similar thing I had happen to me after installing one of my bad rebuilds (one of the ones that booted & installed but was missing many things like Device Info & clear storage etc) was that during the customization stage there were popup dialogs about some app failing (sorry I didn't make note because I automatically assumed the rom was bad & figured why bother) but it did actually finish the customization & reset as expected on it's own. The odd thing was I later did a hard reset & it didn't happen again so I suspect there must be remnants from an old rom or config still there that it was choking on & maybe yours was a similar thing.. I've read many times with other roms that a hard reset after upgrade fixes problems but always assumed it was 'user error' & not possible there could be remnants from an old rom/config left after a flash but maybe that was a bad assumption on my part.
I'm glad you got it working though & I hope it actually works correctly. If not I'll do my best to figure out a fix or rebuild it again as needed but being my 1st rom build it really was all trial & error so I am far from an expert on it. lol
Thanks for sharing your experience, should be helpful to others.

I was using the Telstra Rom for the neon 200, WM6 pro. that was posted by Seth2006. Found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397654 It's an Asian Release, don't know if it really matters...
BTW, if there was ever a chance that something could be caused by user error, I would be the guy to discover it, LOL

Ok thanks for the info. LOL I hear you, as hard as I try I often muck up stuff but have just gotten good at covering my tracks. hehe.
I think HTC Asia released it but I'm pretty sure Telstra is in Australia. I'll have to try it out *but* since that one is an official release it should have a radio built into it and I don't want to replace my stock radio until I am sure I can put mine back to stock.. By the looks of posts in the thread that Telstra rom has 1.58.25.17 radio in it but my stock NEON300 has 1.65.20.19. As far as I know my rebuild does not include a radio, or at least I don't think I included a radio.. Remember I am a n00b at building roms & at trial & error along with research stage. lol
Can you please confirm what radio yours shows after putting my rebuild on? My assumption is it should have been left what it was at the time you flashed which was likely 1.58.25.17 from the Telstra rom unless you had changed it.. In the meantime I am going to see if someone already posted a 1.65.20.19 neon radio and also see if I can build a radio rom from the dumps from my stock neon before I trash it. :D
Btw I assume the rom has been working OK for you so far? For me everything works as expected but my radio is still stock which should be a perfect match for this rom especially in the US since that is the area the NEON300 was released for vs the Telstra one which wasn't meant for the US but could very well work or not work very well.

Of one thing I am pretty sure of, is that the radio I have is not likely stock. I have flashed a couple of roms from Seth, and also the Telstra Rom. I then also downloaded and flashed a radio from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369502
I chose RUU Neon Radio 1.58.25.17N, whis was supposed to come from the original Neon, and is "Highly Recomended". Which, if I had simply READ your last reply, I could hav simply tod you that is is from the Telstra rom.

Oh Ok, thanks for clarifying that the radio is not in the rom I posted. I assumed that was the case but wasn't 100% certain since I had never replaced my radio on my neon.
Hmm yeah I just checked & 1.65.20.19 isn't available so I'll do some more digging to see if anyone has posted it otherwise I might have some work to do to build it myself. I assume having that radio will be useful to others and like with the rom I need that safety cushion to sleep at light. lol

Well after spending a few hours researching it doesn't look to be too likely I'll accomplish this task but I haven't given up yet. With all the radio-only rom's available out there I assume it can't be THAT hard to extract a radio! I could see if I wanted to modify it & hex-edit the crap outta it but I just want a straight copy that can be flashed back. Welp I'll keep digging but I have a feeling I'm gonna need to PM a few experts & hope to get some help but we'll see.

Well, I have noticed that after every soft reset, even just after install, Voice Command crashes. It isn't something that I ever use so I didn't think much of it. The error i get is "Voice Command has quit due to low memery. Close running programs and try again."
Not a big deal to me, but I thought I would mention it.

Hmm I'll have to try it on my NEON's (virgin & reflashed) & see if it does it. Did you do a hard reset to clear everything to ensure there weren't remnants from old roms? I wonder if the radio could have anything to do with it but I'd assume it wouldn't although programs that have been installed could.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hard re-set went fine. Hung just a little on installing htc.tsk. Connection wizard ran after auto reset and started up again without any unusual events. I sat and stared at the screen until it went blank waiting for the error, but of course, no problem.
Fooled around with menus and apps, called voicemail. Nothing. Looks like whatever was causing the crash has stopped.

Ive got a Neon300 that has the exact specification that yours does...I want to flash my phone with the ROM you have linked to RapidShare.
Problem is that the reason why I want to flash the phone is because it will not boot. It turns on and everything, gets to the smart mobility screen and is just stuck there. I can also get it into boot loader....
Any resources on how to flash a Neon300 that wont boot?

Hi. Do you have hardspl installed? If so you should be able to go into the bootloader screen with the usb cable plugged in & it will say USB not serial then run the rom update utility & it should install the rom.
This is a good example of where an official rom updater from HTC would be handy especially since it wouldn't need hardspl & it would also replace your radio in case that is the issue. Unfortunately I never got any help on extracting the radio from my NEON so I gave up.
Hope that helps.
