Ok guys, so this is my new thread. I will keep information, screenshots, and files updated here.
IT WORKS!! I've been disassembling and reassembling this cab file for a while now. I finally got it pretty stable. I removed some files that are not needed and added the appropriate files to work on the Excalibur. I tweaked shellres.dll so the Storage Card issue is gone! :p I also tweaked and reinserted the appropriate CPR files. I replaced the thin looking top bar icons in the original tshres.dll to the 96dpi icons. MUCH BETTER! If you are using Kavana's ROM, disable ClockOnTop as it doesn't display properly. The program seems to uninstall just fine as well if you're worried about that.
Version info:
Version 1.70 works on WM6.5 based WWE ROMS
Version 1.6c works on Kavana and Rose based WWE ROMS
NOTE: PLEASE TEST AT YOUR OWN RISK. THIS APP WILL WORK ON MOST WM6.1 WWE (World Wide English) ROMS. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE OR LOSE DATA. ALL PHONES AND ROMS ARE DIFFERENT AND UNKNOWN CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR (you may lose data). Thanks to lukybandit for the original post and enyone else who contributed.
Directions:
- For WM6.5, run 3VO_96DPI_WM65_v1.70.cab or (1.6c for WM6.1)
- Reboot when it asks
- With 1.6c, if your topbar icons appear as white blocks, try running OOK_96DPI_WM61_Patch.cab (and reboot after install)
- Important: Do not run OOK_96DPI_WM61_Patch.cab if your top bar icons appear fine
- To uninstall, go to Remove Programs and uninstall it then REBOOT
- **Note: If upgrading from a previous version, uninstall it first, REBOOT, then install the new version
If you have custom CPR files in the \Windows directory, back them up. This app installed modified CPR files in the \Windows directory to accomodate for the increased screen size and resolution.
Screenshots below:
UPDATE: 1/17/2009, 10:45PM PST, 1.5b works great on ROSE based ROMS! Fixed background misalignment. Note that background image should be 320x240 or so in size. I edited CPR files in \Windows to fix this. If you have a custom CPR file (due to a weather program or something), back it up and then edit the first line and use these values,
. Still have the Comm Manager bug in Rose ROMS, working on it.
UPDATE: 1/18/2009, 12:40PM PST, 1.52b for Kavana and 1.53b for ROSE. Fixed some font issues and resized the Rinku topbar icons to fit 96dpi.
UPDATE: 2/21/2009, 10:20PM PST, 1.54 for ROSE ROMS uploaded. Fixed some call screen background problems.
UPDATE: 2/22/2009, 6:30PM PST, 1.55 for ROSE ROMS uploaded. Fixed Opera Mini font problem and adjusted other font sizes. 1.53 for Kavana WM61 ROMS uploaded and also fixed Opera Mini fonts (good find, fliparsenal).
UPDATE: 5/8/2009, 6:20PM PST, 1.6 for ALL WM6.1 ROMS. Comm Manager still not pretty but working on it.
UPDATE: 5/9/2009, 10:20PM PST, 1.6c for ALL WM6.1 ROMS. Updated InnerCircle DLL for 96dpi icon. Comm Manager NOW works in 1.6c (screenshot below) except for the "settings" soft key. To access settings, use settings/connection menu. Should be fixed by next release.
UPDATE: 5/12/2009, 10:50PM PST, 1.6c still for ALL WM6.1 ROMS. Uploaded OOK_96DPI_WM61_Patch.cab for ROMs that have a problem reading the bitmap resource from the DLLs. This works on Kavana's China ROMs and other ROMS not yet tested on. Please test.
UPDATE: 6/14/2009, 1:45PM PST, 1.70 up for testing on WM6.5. It may have bugs as I kinda slapped it together due to overwhelming requests! :) Please test and report bugs.
Files:
3VO_96DPI_WM65_v1.70.zip
OOK_96DPI_WM61_v1.6c.zip - With new updated Comm Manager (please test)
OOK_96DPI_WM61_Patch.cab - Patch for China and other ROMs
Please continue bug testing and post your results.

i installed teh 1.55 for rose roms and its really weird now. first i uninstalled 1.53, rebooted, ran the new dpi file, let it go to homescreen, then installed new 1.55. then rebooted. now all my home screen layouts have missing topbar icons when i navigate away from teh home screen. and the in-call screen is not fixed. WORST part is: the 1.55 dpi fix doesnt appear in my remove prgrams OR sktool installed programs for me to uninstall :(
very bad. i feel i bricked the phone with this. help

Thats bizzare. I am running 1.55 on my Dash right now and no problems. And it appears in the Remove Programs list. Not sure what happened. Are you sure you didn't run the Kavana one by accident? Reboot the phone, run the installer again without running dpi.ccs. It should then appear in remove programs. Then try to remove it as needed.
Also, did you reboot after you uninstalled 1.53? Very important.

if you have any of the rose roms celecmd should be included. its called command processor in start menu
run dpi.css and it wont do anything it lookslike but it did.

It looks great, but now it's a little slow my dash freezes in the when I access picture & videos. When I try to close then in task manager they will not close. I have to turn off the phone. Also the jogger started dancing around on its own. again I had to soft reset to clear up the problem. These are all issues I did not have on the Rose Rom ( Ricky & Stylez ver )

I installed the Rose Rom version and everything works great, except that my windows start menu icon does not look like the one in the picture. The icons in my start menu are also a little grainy now and I had to increase my default font size through Accessibility in the settings menu to make the text messages and contacts list larger and readable.
Does anyone know of an easy font changer program to increase font size and pick a different font?

ok heres maybe me trippin again: now that i have this 96dpi fix installed and working great, memory seems to run out this rom really quickly. like in an hour and a half, ill have to reboot cuz of no more memory. and i have nothing running since i started it up initially.
i can list what i have installed, and most it is on a 8gb microsd card thats 70% full. but the list would only matter if i had that stuff running right?
nothing running for an hour and a half, maybe answered a few text messaged, and forced to reboot due to no memory.
help?

Yea sure. Are you using XP or Vista? If XP, you have to open a folder window, click the Tools(menu)/Options/Show Hidden Files and Folders. Since .cpr files are hidden, they won't show up in the \Windows directory until you do this. Browse to the \Windows dir and sort the files by file type. Scroll down to the C's and find either SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr or CHome_320x240.cpr. Copy it to your Desktop and open it with Notepad (right click, open as). Or just doubleclick it and select notepad to open it. If you're running NRG's mini weather, you need to get the CPR file with the weather info. I am attaching it. To fix the wallpaper issue, the top line should be
. Always backup the files you edit before you tweak on them. Have fun! Good luck.

This problem is most likely not related to ookba's 96dpi update. You may want to consider doing a hard reset and then slowly reinstall your applications until the "out of memory" problem crops up again and then permanently uninstall the offending application.
Accessories -> Clear Storage
A fresh reflash could be in order too. Good luck.

Which ROM? Rose or Kavana? Use CeleTask and see what processes you are running that could be draining memory. 96DPI only changes the screen res and font sizes.

the rose 1.7 remade by styles and ricky.
i dont use the weather services so i just excluded those from the processes list. i think i should keep the wifiinit.exe but what about the htcactivitylogexe.exe?

Detected issues:
- Error in homescreen (little white boxes on top, even with clockOnTop disabled)
- In "FileExplorer" nothing happens when you press the "Menu" SoftKey
- "CeleTask" jams.
- SmartToolKit opened but nothing happens after pressing the "Start" or "Task" buttons.
- After all this almost everything freezes
- Had to reboot, uninstall and reboot again

Yes, I tested it on KAVANA's WM6.1 LAST ROM 090121. Run the App first, reboot. If your top icons come up as white blocks, run the patch file then reboot. That should fix it. If it doesn't work for any reason, simply uninstall it and reboot.

Yes, that's normal. The Start Menu only displays a set number of icons/shortcuts, so you'll see the blank spaces. Just gotta live with that...overall the 96dpi is still waaaay better than the original setting.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I thought since it deals with the topic, it should be related enough...
I love technology of every kind, i love modding, hacking, etc (well atleast finding the resources to do so :D ), but I never interested myself much in modifying resolutions. What is so great about this 96 DPI mod? I understand that it is a more standard DPI, but does it really have THAT much of an effect?
Please, explain this to me...I might be interested in installing. Thank You.

Placing the system in 96 dpi mode, is in effect like "increasing" the screen resolution of the dash's screen. more information is able to be shown and all graphics look shaper and generally more appealing.

but for anyone trying to use ODSHOW mini weather, you must install the ODSHOW weather cab before the 96dpi.

Most of the time I have dataconnection off due to high prices, but occasionally I need to check my mail. If possible I use WiFi, but that's not allways availiable. Schedule in active syunc is manual.
PS : when I remove version 1.6c, all is ok again. I can turn the dataconnection on and off as I like (but off course I miss the 96dpi)
PS2 : in the version with the other commmanager, all was working ok

Wow! great app guys!
Tried it for 5 min but it's to small for me =S, plus it seems the Dash benefits more from the regular(121dpi?) font. It seems dash doesnt adjust icons, etc to the smal font. Goin back to regular, my eyes thank me.

Agreed. Communication manager has every item merged into one line.
Lol looks kinda funny though. Pic attached.
A problem with the 3VO on 96dpi (1.6c or 1.7) My background image does not reach the bottom, but in NRG's EnergyROM, it reached it just fine on 1.6c. Pic also attached for both instances.
Oh, and what all changed in this release? I haven't noticed any changes except the wait animation.
Edit: As I'm looking over the pic of 3VO and the pic of NRG's, I've realized it's not that the pic doesn't stretch down enough, but that there's is a black bar where the start bar would normally be.

i installed this last ngiht....i was quwstioning how good the program would actually be, but it is AMAZING...thnx so much ookba..
anyway, about people with their images not reaching the bottom....i had this isue, but fixed it. i use stk rc09.
EDIT::: DELETED THE STEPS PROVIDED BECAUSE THEY WERE INCORRECT
It seems like in stk rc09, when you do auto key lock with the topbar included, the topbar caches the today screen's bg image position, there may be some registry entry or something, but this was my solution:
EDIT:::I used the same image for keylock that I did for my BG, so i just resized the picture (as you can see in two of the attached thumbnails) so that the topbar would match up with the image.
I'm using skyfire on my excalibur now, so i cant check .. but i believe that should fix it up for the most part. my screen looks fine
images are attached.
I attached a zip with my current CPR file and Screenshots. Its really guess and check to the point that you have to modify just how off-set the topbar is (defined by the "top=**"). pm me if you want help or clarification or if i did something wrong.
by the way, a question of my own, how do i fix the comm manager...all the options a clutterd into one spot...
and
When i first boot the phone using this and the topbar icons, the battery icon refuses to be in the new 96dpi, it starts as a normal icon (so it gets cut off), but if i plug it into the charger, then take it out, it goes back to normal...any fix?

I ran the 3VO_96DPI_WM65_v1.70.cab and I'm still having this problem.
I'm using 3VO's rom/WM6.5 on a (originally) t-mobile dash/HTC Excalibur.
I've tried installing-rebooting-uninstalling-rebooting-reinstall with the same results.
I really love the extra real-estate this mod accomplishes so I'm almost willing to live with it but I was hoping to find a solution.
Thanks for any help! :D

Its basically what Wulfie66 said.
However, It not only makes Text smaller, but If i am getting this correctly (and I do use the 96 DPI mod) it is resizing images too. The purpose is to make more space on screen.
If you want to test it...go into the Settings Menu (without the 96 DPI mod) and look at the size of the text...then look at it with the 96 DPI mod...much smaller. You can also look at the home-screen. A lot of text gets smaller and the TopBar icons get shrunk a bit.

ookba
28th September 2009, 11:23 PM
Comm Manager: Not sure how to get this working. HTC doesn't have a 96 DPI version.
Make it bigger: No, the DPI setting that the phone will run most efficient at is 131. 96DPI works but still buggy.
Titanium (center): Working on a 96DPI test for Titanium but will not be ready for a while. I may just build a 96DPI ROM once I get OEM packages that will work with 96DPI.
Necessary to install: Not necessary. In fact, I made fonts smaller on my 3VO ROMS already so 131 DPI looks great! :)

Have fun! Good luck.
Hello ookba,
I just tried this and it still doesn't seem to work. I still see the wallpaper bug :(
Cyclonezephyrxz7
22nd October 2009, 02:25 AM
If the wallpaper bug you are referring to is the displacement, this has been mentioned already, BUT HAS CHANGED A TAD. It is slightly different if you are using ookba's 2.8 rom since you want to look for TITANIUM_320x240.cpr! (I believe that applies to all 6.5 ROMS running default titanium panels). If you are still using a 6.1 ROM, then editing the CHome or SlidingPanels should work

So i installed this after i installed the newest 3volution 6.5 rom for Dash/Excalibur.... i get one annoying problem... since i have custom backgrounds set up for stat menu folders, it doesnt seem to stretch them to completely encompass the area between the soft key buttons and the top bar... also, i thought i'd try to edit it manually to get the stuff to look better... but i still get that problem with the comm manager stuff being all condensed into one line.... i remember reading about someone else sayin they had that issue... i cudnt find if they found a solution.... (btw... the manual edit is in the root folder in registry\hklm\drivers\display\gpe.... you have to edit the x and y values)...
also... the stuff in there under the registry\hklm\drivers\display folder, there are two more files which correspond to the stretching of the home wallpaper... for those who dont have my problem but have that wallpaper line issue... you can fix via there... just increas values... the standard there are 320x240 i think.

HTCSlidingPanel_240x320.cpr
HTCSlidingPanel_320x240.cpr
SlidingPanel_240x320.cpr
SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr

by opening up in notepad, i was able to change the first line of these files to

which has helped stretch the background to normal size. now however, the topbar is still a bit off as you can see. so im going to try and modify that file, and play with the width/height etc., to see if i can get that adjusted just right.
if anyone already knows which file i need to adjust to fix the topbar, and how much, please let me know. it would save me some time :-)
