Lowering background "brightness"

Greetings all,

Today I tried to change my background but somehow the background gets really white, as if the brightness was +150% or so.

Any tips on how to get the background(s) to have their original colors?

Programs -> Pictures & Videos.
Find picture, select it, set as Today background, watch about transparency level (should be 0%)

Old trick mentioned about 1000 times... ;)
