My first ROM for HTC Magician.
Release date: 09.03.2009 2:42 GMT+3
Alternate name: 3.00 WWE.

Features:
*128 and 64 ram support
*Word
*Excel
*Ability to choose cpu speed
*50 levels of backlight
*Very fast (in average 33% faster than other Magician roms on video playing)
*Visual theme from WM6.

Installation:
*Download archive
*Extract files from it
*Enter bootloader mode on device (Press POWER + CAMERA + RESET, you will see Serial/USB at top and 1.0X at bottom)
*Connect via USB to PC
*Run Update.exe
*Follow instructions in Update program.
*At the end you should see at device screen: "100% Upgrade OS Image Complete".
*After flashing press reset.
*Don't touch device, wait while "welcome screen" appear.
*Press screen, do calibration and start using device.
NOTE: This is ONLY ONE right instruction how to flash your device with my rom.
otherwise your device can no longer boots, also you can get brick. be sure, before doing anything wrong!

Uninstallation
*Enter bootloader mode on device (Press POWER + CAMERA + RESET, you will see Serial/USB at top and 1.0X at bottom)
*Connect via USB to PC
*Install ORIGINAL 1.12 or 1.13 ROM. No big storage etc. Install original one!!
[YOU *MUST* REPLACE ROMUpgradeUt.exe TO MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe]
*Now you can flash any other old custom roms.
NOTE: This is ONLY ONE right instruction how to uninstall my rom, otherwise you can have problems with new rom.

don't use direct draw - it's slow. you should set to "RawFrameBuffer" or "Intel XScale". Also if you want good speed set maximum CPU speed, "Very Fast (416+)".

My issues so far:

- BT is noT working properly (known issue)
- Active Sync 4.5 craetes the proper profile but does not sync any data.
(error 0x80070057)

Is it possible to change the bootscreen? Or should I use the default method?
I want my anti-theft bootscreen...

Device Speed control panel applet:

Using this applet you can change CPU speed.

Notes:
Very Fast (416+ Mhz) the fastest cpu mode. you should use it during watching videos, playing in games etc. Of course you have bigger power drain.
Fast (416 Mhz) - default mode. this mode like default mode in old roms 1.1X, 2.0X TX.
Other modes more slow, but you save some power when you use it.
So if you need long battery life, set speed to 208 Mhz.

Autochange - if checked, cpu will change speed dynamically.
the maximum speed still defined by radiobutton (208, 312, 416, 416+)

Aggressive - not useful (mostly not working)

Congrationlations. The best rom ever. After the install i configured my german xda and installed a german-tastatur-cab.
i figured out, that its not possible to send an text message (sms),but its possible to arrive an sms.
Do you have a fix for that problem? May be a registry setting or so?

this is real 6.1!!! it's no fake - plus it even works on a normal 64MB device. first i thougt it might only "look" like WM6 - but i tried a few WM5/6-only programs now - they work!

I eventually managed to install it, and so far it looks great. I only used the file explorer so far and was astounded by the amazing speed. It surely beats my Touch HD!

Any idea if it's ok to install .NET version 3.5?

Yep this ROM makes it into the fastest phone around. Who could have dreamed this!!

This ROM is blazing fast, power consumption is very good and it looks to be very stable (after a few days of use)

I installed everything I could find on it and everything works OK. There are a few quirks though.
Active Sync, Bluetooth and it needs a newer sdbus driver for sdhc.

But I am sure that will be fixed. That man is a MAGICIAN ;)

I think you should repair it...
you can flash my rom without this button....but you CAN'T UNINSTALLL IT.
(You can use EnterBootLoader.exe program, but it's working only on old rom, my rom doesn't support it)

it`s a wonderful work. I use it since Yesterday, and I load a lot of Programs. Only the HTC Home PlugIn has a little Problem. It doesen`t update the Forecast on Weather Tab. Do you have any Solution or Idea about this Problem?

I'm trying to debug an issue with my DeviceUpdate (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480476) application, and it seems that there are a few registry entries missing which may be causing issues.

The main one seems to be HKLM\Comm\BootCount.

This registry entry will increment by one on each boot and is used by multiple apps like SDConfig etc to run.

Are you able to look into this?

Photo (upto scaled 1600x1280) , Video, MMS Video, Contacts Picture, Picture Theme, Panorama (up/down and Left/Right), Sport, Burst.

Pictures: Self Timer (5 and 10 sec), Auto Stich Panorama and Time/Date stamp

I will test any further and post later.

Now on to business:

1st impressions

1. It is 5.2 build of 6,1 Windows mobile

2. The phone is lightning fast - on 315MHz it's like old ROM but battery life almost double (!!!!)

3. The boot is really fast so the BT problem is less annoying

4. The 6.1 theme are more cool than 2k3's ;-)

5. The ROM has LOTS of space without the storage - it's better this way IMO

6. Coutlla - thank YOU for so much speed:):):):):D

problems(wishlist)

a. The Bluetooth is 'broken' it works, but hangs on shut off -this would be great news if addressed later

b. there is no midlet (jar) manager onboard - i sure miss one - not necessarily a part of any ROM, but surely a part of an complete one

c. backup - can't do without IMHO? and a quick one too

d. big clock - we all depend on BIG clocks, aren't we?

e. browser - I would like to see mini-mo if I cant have Opera-mini in a jar?

f. cpu-graph is there anything ore cool than that?

g. drawing - taking notes is just not enough for me - i took 'ce paint v1.0.1' onboard

h. pdf viewer - which one is better - adobes 8MB monster or alternative?

i. quick starter - a good styleable today-screen plugin would be nice?

j. screenshot-er - how do You think we can add to Your credit without one?

Not beta, betas tested by betatester.

1)you can use card reader.
2)you can install Active Sync 4.5 or WDMC and copy files via it.
Be sure! Old Active Sync versions doesn't work!

However about camera, I planned to remove old HTC camera from future versions of rom. Instead will be available built in MS Camera. Magician camera is rather bad, so it won't be big lost.

about different today settings, clock etc - you can read about it in other places, because it's not rom-specific.

As ActiveSync doesn't work, I tried downloading xBackup and restore my contacts, but the problem is it says: Error opening contacts database...

Google Sync doesn't work, as that's built up on top of ActiveSync... So maybe I will try GooSync...

or some other ways in getting my contacts back...

Earlier tried to restore items backed up by Sprite Backup (their OS version upgrade mode)... no luck... that's returning error too.

But the rom is super fast, best ever rom, that's undoubted.

As ActiveSync doesn't work, I tried downloading xBackup and restore my contacts, but the problem is it says: Error opening contacts database...

Google Sync doesn't work, as that's built up on top of ActiveSync... So maybe I will try GooSync...

or some other ways in getting my contacts back...

Earlier tried to restore items backed up by Sprite Backup (their OS version upgrade mode)... no luck... that's returning error too.
you can use PIMBackup for contacts.
Resco Backup works on my rom.

I will give you some info about my future thinks:
Probably future roms will use SD/MMC card as user store.
This have a lot of advantages, good speed, long life of flash, easy backups, etc.
But it have one main disadvantage - SD/MMC can not be removed from device, it become like fixed-internal flash.
(If you remove it by hands, device will hang and possible data lost)
Yes, also SDIO cards can't be used, because you can't move out SD/MMC card from slot.
Flash size and speed is the outdated part of Magician.

If you install Active Sync 4.5 you will able to copy files and use RAPI applications, like remote registry editor, remote control.
But synchronizing contacts, sms and other PIM with Outlook will fail. However Notes sync with Outlook without problems.

PIM Backup works... I should have posted my question here before assuming xBackup will work... anyway I lost my contacts on my phone now and am finding a way to either sync Google contacts or outlook contacts back.

If I am without luck I will either go for the GooSync Premium membership account, or restore my old rom back, restore contacts using xBackup, backup using PIMBackup, and then upgrade my rom again, and then restore using PIMBackup... =(

As I need some kind of sync before the ActiveSync issue fix anyway I would probably go for the GooSync.

(anyone with better idea would be very much appreciated)

I still have some questions

(1) The storage cannot be seen. I am fine without it as I have a good 4G SD (not HC), but for learning purpose I would be curious to know if it is used by the rom storing things or held unused sitting there.

(2) Radio 1.13 is not there. I had mine downgraded to 1.12 when I installed this new rom. Has anybody tried to reinstalled it back? If so, please kindly report compatibility.

How can yours work?

I have sp3 on xp and 4.5 (build 5096) but doesn't work.

1. Mine works as 'guest',
2. it offers me something i have to 'cancel' to bail out and the I have full access to the SD card only

3. I don't use outlook (i call it 'lookout!') so i don't miss the 'bonding' which might not work as i haven't tried it ever.

About Activesync: It does establish a connection, o.k. Speaking for myself i never use syncronisation with outlook contacts, PIMbackup is my friend. I only use Activesync to install apps through cabinstaller application, so if it does not sync, no roblem for me.
About Manilla: Please point to some link for the files to be used.

First thing is that ActiveSync works. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it, this often solves dead-ends.
If that one des not help, flash previous rom, use PIMBaackup (free) to backup contacts, save on sd, reflash this unbelievable rom and restore them.

I think not, I got running some WM5/6 Specific Apps (HTC Home, HTC Audio manager, GMaps, etc) and running smooth...

OK, to all Chinese in this forum, including me of course...

I am just writing this as I see lots and lots of messages asking for a Chinese rom.

Why would we want a rom so badly that is in our language? I mean you see a lot of people out there / in this forum whose mother tongue is not English but they have not really ask for their language of rom as badly as we did.

To me, as long as the data shown are in Chinese, I am fine with the rom. The interface language doesn't really hurt. Actually I myself prefer English interface to all systems that I use, as that provides best usage to other people accessing my computer.

For computer techies (and if you can flash a rom, you are a techie to somewhat degree, right?) I think the ability to use English at ease would be most beneficial, since computer language, keyboard and stuffs are mostly in English anyway (say C++). I see many countries, not to mention which, people are refraining themselves to use universal languages, and sunset to them no matter how good they were. If Chinese can ever become the universal language, I would definitely proud to that, however, at present stage I see no trouble in adapting others.

All in all, as a Chinese, I hope I see more development effort or comments to the rom instead of asking for a localization one. We all understand the rom has known issue as of now (like activesync) and as techies wouldn't we feel it's better for a relative bug free rom to release-then-translate better translate-then-release?

Kindly not to reply this message here as this is not this forum's topic. PM me if you have insight to me. I write this because I see the last 15 post were about requesting Chinese rom. I believe the author has known how badly we as a large group of magician users would need the rom, but if we can put our request to a little halt and allow the forum to do it's original purpose, certainly future readers would benefit.

Cotulla, this is *amazing* work! I can't believe I'm now using WM 6.1 and Manilla 2D on a phone that is 4 years old and yet it runs BETTER than on my TyTN II... Seriously.....

My device was an Australian Telstra branded i-mate JAM. I had trouble flashing the ROM at first due to only having Vista and Windows 7 on my notebook. I installed an XP image in VirtualBox with USB support to get things going.

However I couldn't flash with the package as is - for some reason I kept getting Error 114 which means it couldn't upgrade the Radio stack. All I did was to remove the radio_.nbf file from the folder so that the upgrade would patch the OS image only, and it seems to have worked fine (old radio version was 1.12).

Anyway, this is awesome and I'm really looking forward to future releases, keep up the good work.

If Chinese can ever become the universal language, I would definitely proud to that, however, at present stage I see no trouble in adapting others.

All in all, as a Chinese, I hope I see more development effort or comments to the rom instead of asking for a localization one. We all understand the rom has known issue as of now (like activesync) and as techies wouldn't we feel it's better for a relative bug free rom to release-then-translate better translate-then-release?

Kindly not to reply this message here as this is not this forum's topic. PM me if you have insight to me. I write this because I see the last 15 post were about requesting Chinese rom. I believe the author has known how badly we as a large group of magician users would need the rom, but if we can put our request to a little halt and allow the forum to do it's original purpose, certainly future readers would benefit.

It works. But what did you against the less Memory. There are no big Progs in the Main Memory, but after Manilla Instal and the Addons, there are only nearly 4-6mb main Memory available., and sometimes I got Notifications about less Memory.

A little Problem ist on the Photo Tab. I made some Pictures, but on the Tab are no Photo Available. Another thing I have to solve ist the HTC Task manager. When I activate the Manilla, the Task Manager Tab on the Task Line is away. I don`t know why.

i just put that ROM on my friend's magician (as he was complaining about the device being oldish and unexciting) and then, installed pointui home2, fingermenu 1.10 and fingerkeyboard2 - the effect was amazing and it blew him away the moment he saw it;

i have to say, the ROM you cooked up is really fast and stable and it does feel like a new phone altogether. You brought life back to the magician and i'm sure a lot of people will appreciate that. Congratulations! job well done!

It's rather fascinating that Cotulla has managed to get WM2003 memory management working in WM6.1, I was under the impression this wasn't possible under WM5 and newer since everything I've read about WM5 and up says RAM is used like regular RAM and all storage is flash. Mine only has 64MB so I tend to run out of RAM a lot since half of it is used for storage. If it's possible, I wouldn't mind a very stripped down version of this ROM that uses only the remaining flash for storage and 100% of RAM for programs like the default mode of WM5 and up. There are some things that could be left out and installed from .cabs, like Office Mobile for example.

I did see a service that could upgrade the RAM to 128MB for $170. I think $40 sounds too low considering the RAM are BGA chips.

Cotulla, congratulations on your ROM, it's both an amazing achievement and a great lightning fast ROM.

There are only a couple of things not working that shouldn't stop anyone from using it (unability to disable bluetooth and synchronizing with outlook). To solve the second I used PPCPimBackup.

I have also installed a bunch of programs including Manila 2D, Iolite dialer, S2U2, etc... All are working great, very fast (oh heck, it's faster than my kaiser!), except Tomtom v7.910.9185; maybe it's got something to do with the bluetooth issue?

About the dialer, the speaker button doesn't work, but if i long-press the green button the speaker will be active.

One thing i would like to know, is it possible to uninstall or disable the task manager you have included? 'Cause i'd like to try the htc task manager.

Anyway, you did a great work, i really apreciate your efforts.

However I couldn't flash with the package as is - for some reason I kept getting Error 114 which means it couldn't upgrade the Radio stack. All I did was to remove the radio_.nbf file from the folder so that the upgrade would patch the OS image only, and it seems to have worked fine (old radio version was 1.12).

I fixed today some errors, now synchronizing via Active Sync works. Don't know about Exchange server, but should work also.
New roms will have it fixed.
